Seoul plans to beef up protection for North Korean defectors, as key figures such as Thae

Yong-ho, could be the North's next assassination targets.

Despite such threats, the former diplomat of the reclusive state... has on several occasions

reiterated his commitment to contributing to unification on the Korean peninsula.

Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn has ordered officials to double check the nation's counterterrorism

readiness... and intensify the level of protection for North Korean defectors, amid rising concerns

that key defectors could be the regime's next targets.

"Relevant government agencies, like the counterterrorism center, must monitor their counterterrorism

contingency plans.. and make sure they are taking all the necessary measures to protect

North Korean defectors."

High on that list is Thae Yong-ho, the former North Korean deputy ambassador to the U.K.

and one of the highest-ranking officials to ever have defected.

Although he is fully aware that the North's leader Kim Jong-un is capable of an assassination

attempt, Thae says he is not afraid.

"I will not be terrorized by Kim Jong-un's tyranny... and until the day of reunification

and I will give my all to overturning Kim Jong-un's dictatorship."

Thae said that Kim Jong-nam's murder would haunt Kim Jong-un in the long run... and could

even bring about the collapse of his regime, in direct opposition to his apparent goal

of removing the perceived threat to his rule.

"I think that it is highly significant that we've acquired the tangible evidence we need

to bring Kim Jong-un to the International Criminal Court, for committing crimes against

humanity."

Seoul will also use the case to shine a light on North Korea's human rights violations on

the global stage.

"The South Korean government is reviewing ways to bring up the issue and discuss the

brutality and inhumanity of the North Korean regime at occasions focusing on human rights."

That official attempt... will be made at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in

Geneva next week.

Sunday's announcement from the Malaysian police implicating North Korea in the murder of Kim

Jong-nam.

Calling the incident an act of terrorism and a crime against humanity, Prime Minister Hwang

Kyo-ahn asked for a strong defense posture and countermeasures against acts from the

North.

South Korea's acting president Hwang Kyo-ahn said that based on the official announcement

from the Malaysian government, the circumstances and intelligence, it is certain that the North

Korean regime was behind the murder of Kim Jong-nam, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's

half brother who was killed in what appears to have been a toxic attack.

"This murder -- which took place in a public space, an international airport in a third

country -- is an unacceptable act of terrorism, a crime against humanity and clear evidence

of the North Korean regime's brutality and recklessness."

Prime Minister Hwang said Seoul should cooperate with the international community to make North

Korea pay a price for its actions.

He ordered officials to beef up the country's defense readiness and counterterrorism measures,

as the North could target the South in similar or other ways.

"As the North Korean regime's methods of terrorism are getting bolder, we must be exceptionally

aware of the possibility of a North Korean terrorist attack on the South Korean government

and its people, and prepare for other provocations aimed at distracting the international community."

The acting president asked the public and political arena to unite on national security...

and strengthen the military deterrent against the North, through the military exercises

between South Korea and the U.S. scheduled for next month.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary indicated returning its ambassador to Korea will depend

on how much action Seoul takes in removing the recently erected statue commemorating

Japan's wartime sex slavery victims.

The prospects for a planned trilateral summit are also in the fog with Tokyo saying it has

no fixed date in mind.

Japan has hinted that the recently frayed bilateral relations with Korea could persist

for quite some time unless Seoul takes action.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Monday, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide

Suga said Tokyo will monitor Seoul's response to the so-called comfort woman statue following

the Korea-Japan's foreign ministers' meeting in Germany.

The comments come as a sideline discussion of the two foreign ministers was held at the

G20 foreign minsters' meeting where Japan's Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida requested Seoul

to remove the recently installed comfort woman statue commemorating the victims of Japan's

sexual enslavement during World War 2 in front of the Japanese consulate in the Korean port

city of Busan.

Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se in response,... said setting up sculptures

in front of a foreign country's diplomatic office is inappropriate according to international

customs and added Seoul will gear its utmost efforts.

Suga also remained tight lipped on the details of when the Japanese Ambassador to Korea Yasumasa

Nagamine will return to his post.

However he said that any decision will come following various factors,...indicating Seoul's

specific actions in removing the statue must come in advance for the diplomat's return.

The Japanese senior official in addition gave cloudy prospects in regards to a trilateral

summit between Seoul, Beijing and Tokyo saying schedule arrangements are underway for some

time this year, but nothing has been set as of now.

Considering Japan had originally pushed for a trilateral summit some time this month,

many watchers predict the momentum has died and that the timing for the three Northeast

Asian leaderships to meet won't come any time soon.

My dad is one of those people that really likes to celebrate his birthday.

And I was travelling when he turned 50.

And now he is turning 60. And then I wasn't there - again.

So I decided that as I wasn't that far away I could go and surprise him.

So right now I am sitting at a hotel.

I left Moana and the crew.

And it was with very mixed emotions cause...

We just arrived there and we were all really excited.

And we just wanted to see it all. Go diving and exploring.

And I'm so jealous that the others get a head start.

And that I will miss out on seeing the others start om their dive training.

But...

Never the less. I am going home to surprise my dad.

And I think that he will be really surprised!

At least I am looking SO forward to seeing his reaction.

I am in Dusseldorf right now. I had a stopover here.

In the morning I am flying to Denmark.

My mom will pick me up.

And we are going to surprise him.

I am in Denmark now.

It feels really strange....

It feel surreal to use 5-6 weeks to get to the Azores and then in the blink of an eye you are back home.

It is just about to happen.

My heart is racing!

We will be picked up in 10 minutes.

And we have made a plan.

It's a little "rainy", so I will bring an umbrella.

My dad thinks that he is picking up my mom and her friend.

So when we walk towards the bus that is picking us up.

I will be in front and then my mom will be right behind me filming.

And then when I get close enough and he gets out of the bus, I'll remove the umbrella so he can see me.

We are headed out for a dive.

There is suppose to be a nice fishing spot that it also a diving spot.

Situated in the middle of nowhere.

So there is neither rocks, corals, or anything.

And it is also too deep to anchor.

But there is suppose to be some potentially nice things to see.

So we are sailing Moana out there and leaving the dinghy in the habour.

And then we throw out some anchor chain. About 20 meters.

And then one person stays on the boat and the others jump in the water and holds on to the chain.

So that you have a reference point.

And then you stay there and watch. And hopefully see something nice.

How was it?

It was a bit strange.

It was strange but funny to try.

But you're just hanging there doing nothing.

Then we filmed a little.

But didn't really know when to film.

And then we were down sitting on the anchor.

So you just hang there waiting. Until you start freezing.

Or until we didn't have any more air.

So finally we decided to go up.

What does Mette think?

But also pretty.

And also a little crazy.

I know that I am new to this and I might be the reason I'm so easy to impress.

But I thought it was really magical just hanging in that chain.

It was very meditatively. All that blue surrounding you.

And the only reference point you have is your buddy and the anchor chain and.....

The boat above you.

The only thing you actually really see is the sun and the waves.

I thought it was pretty magical.

A Manhattan hospital transformed into the Great White Way Tuesday when a crew of Broadway actors gave a surprise performance to children suffering from life-threatening diseases.

Stars from the hit show, "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" made their cameos at NYU Langone Medical Center's Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children's Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders.

The young patients sang along and shook tambourines and maracas as the actors belted out such tunes as "You've Got a Friend," "Girl on Fire," and "We Will Rock You."

"It's so special to able to connect to these kids who we don't know," said Keenan Wynn, who plays Cynthia Weil in the musical.

"We don't know what they could be dealing with, and they can engage and really smile and enjoy the connection and the activity."

Chilina Kennedy, who plays Carole King in the musical, serenaded the children with an acoustic-style version of "Twinkle Twinkle."

Afterward, she said she jumped at the chance to perform in front of the ailing children.

"For me, it turns music back into what it should be, which is something that everybody can do, everybody can enjoy," Kennedy said.

Kennedy (from l.) Jessica Keenan Wynn and Alan Wiggins made the trip to lift the spirits of kids battling cancer Tuesday.

Xanath Hernandez, 9, who suffers from leukemia, said music therapy helps her relax and keep focused on her goals.

"I like singing because it can relax you, it can calm your body," Xanath said. "It's a way to release the stress that you have. It's also useful for focusing on things that you want and also just hearing other people's talent."

The other actors who took part in the center's music therapy program were Alan Wiggins and Sara King.

They all handed out signed CDs of the "Beautiful" soundtrack so the kids can sing along to the show tunes the next time the actors stop by.

Hospital music therapist Joseph Lee, who has been working with NYU Langone patients for eight years, hailed the special visit.

"It's a great way for them to express themselves and make choices and have fun like regular kids get to do," Lee said.

So, I always tend to read really compelling

books right before my birthday. It always

ends up happening that way and this

year: it's The Unseen World by Liz Moore.

So I turn 26 tomorrow when I'm posting this

and well, this book really made me

think a lot about like the power of

relationships and how important it is

to be open with one another and...you

know not being afraid of being human and

vulnerable because life is very fleeting

and it's important to just know that the people that love

you are there for you and not be afraid

to say what you're thinking and what you

feel. So before I ramble on any further;

The Unseen World, the point of view is

mainly Ada who is this girl and then you get through

like her whole life basically and her

relationship with their father.

Which is a mathematician-scientist

and like you see how she grows up in his

lab and he kind of homeschools her and you learn

about their history and then you find

out or she finds out that he's losing

his memory.

So it's like this...tghe mystery element to

this book is fan-freaking-tastic! You

find out that there's a lot that she doesn't

know about his past.

So she's finding it out like...

there's like a rush...not a rush but she wants to

before he passes way..but he

can't tell her much. So she has to

all this digging and all this

looking into this different coding

that he left behind because he

started this like...*snaps to remember* this

scientifical (that's not a word ;p) scientific

experiment called Elixir. So it's like

someone that...so this is in the

1980s and he would type into it

and it will respond. So it was like an AI (artificial intelligence)

like the first level of what an AI was back then

and umm yeah. So it's like interesting how,

you know, that was like his project: his baby.

So it's interesting how that inter..it relates

to the mystery of finding out

about this past and the way that it's done

is so well. It's so well done! It's

just so friggin' great.

I was so intrigued by this book;

seeing Max and Rincey's review about it. (linked below)

So I'm glad I finally picked it up because you get

this great cast of characters

and like the compassion that they have for

the work that is being done in this lab and

for each other and like it's just detailed in such a great way.

Oh man, it's just like family and like love and

all these important, like just

human characteristics that you can really

identify. I think like Max said this is

really...I can't see why people wouldn't like this.

It might...of course there are reasons. A book can't appeal to everyone.

But yeah, I can't (hugs book) lol So good!
