Musical Rhetoric in Strauss's DON JUAN, Op. 20 - Part II - Duration: 9:54.
MUSICAL RHETORIC IN RICHARD STRAUSS'S DON JUAN, OP. 20 –
Part II: The Rondo, and Episode One
In the RONDO form, there is always one theme
that keeps coming back, as a separator between various contrasting episodes.
This main theme of the Rondo is called the REFRAIN.
The rondo form, appropriately represents the character of Don Juan.
"A" is "Alpha," the Alpha Male.
The character has an "episode" with one woman, then rushes off [mus]
to find another.
And another.
We can diagram the rondo form with the letters ABACADA.
Recall that Strauss was a 24-years-young man when he composed his tone poem, Don Juan.
So the notes written in the score visually depict a stylized phallus, as effectively
as the steeples of Christendom.
Full of the bloom of youth and male vitality, this REFRAIN theme is in the key of E Major. Four sharps.

An article in The New Oxford History of Music
refers to its "energy and erotic desires."

The mythical Don Juan may have a reputation as "the world's greatest lover," but
he is only out hunting for trophies.
It is the challenge of the next "conquest" which interests the man, even more than mundane
sexual pleasure.

With music notation software, we can easily
modify the piano transcription we've been hearing.
Temporarily, we can restrict the refrain tune to its rhythm alone, with a single, repeated
high note in the right hand.
Thus, in this special example we emphasize the rhythms of the Refrain, the dotted notes
and triplets, which give the theme its military flavor.

To this conquistador, or conqueror, women
are merely prizes, or "interchangeable objects of temporary pleasure."
Now that was a quote from the classic theatre piece, Dom Juan, by the great French playwright
Molière.
Let's take a look at that opening melodic figure.
When first introduced (bars 1-3) it runs from the lowest open G of the violins up to high
B—a span of three octaves and a major third—a very wide range in less than three measures!
Few human voices could actually sing the violin part, but it highlights an important technique
for media composers: the wide range of this melody contributes to the sense of – not
calm, but – of restlessness, of adolescent male hormones running wild. Here it is:

Eventually, a "pretty young thing" enters
his field of view, catching his attention, and we hear a "wakeup call" in the music,
the rising fifths, at bars 41 and 43.

Do you hear those rising triplet figures in the bass?
Again, triplets are used to showcase the warrior side of this conqueror.
In the orchestra, the triplets are played by the cellos and basses.
The motive ends first on a C# then repeats and ends on D.

Ending the repeat of the phrase a semitone higher increases the tension.
Don Juan moves in to "take a closer look," and of course she, the object of the rondo's
first episode, reacts to the male attention.
Biological imperatives at work.
Before going on, let's take a minute to listen again to the piano transcription of
bars 1-43.
Allow the musical rhetoric to evoke the images and emotions discussed so far.
First the opening, and rushing off to the battlefield.

Episode One: An attractive peasant girl, from the rondo perspective, with Don Juan as her
"possessor", characterizes the melodic content of Episode One.
In response to her flirting dotted figures, at first in C major (no sharps), bars 44, 45

Rapidly rising figures ensue, especially the
rush of unison strings, representing male arousal, shown here in measure 45
[mus].
Let's say her name is "Zerlina" to parallel the peasant girl in Mozart's opera, Don
Giovanni – which is Don Juan in Italian.
Same story.
A chameleon herself, Zerlina now responds by mirroring the four-sharp tonality of Don
Juan: E Major/c# minor (upper strings and solo woodwinds, 48, 49).

Zerlina's music is marked "flebile," an Italian word meaning weak, plaintive; this
encourages the hunter's advances.
One wonders just who is manipulating whom. (?)
In the orchestra score, curious triplets on
C-sharp appear in bar 48 of the bassoon part.
These may refer to the man's pounding heart, or to male sexual climax.
Or, these gloomy triplets in the bassoons may foreshadow impending doom for the libertine.
More about that later.
[mus] Though Don Juan himself is of noble birth,
the bassoons do not produce a brilliant or noble tone.
Zerlina, however is of a lower social class than Don Juan, so the bassoon sounds unrefined,
clumsy, or perhaps comical.

Episode One is of course no great achievement for this aristocrat, merely another notch
added to his … "gun."
The man seems to be a bit disappointed—after all, bars 46-48 present a deceptive cadence
in the relative mode of C# minor. [mus]
Another detail: the cellos (or Violoncello
in the score) have triplets marked "sul ponticello".
This is a rather tense sound created by moving the bow close to the instrument's bridge.

The restless intro figure returns, and Don Juan is galloping off through a series of
sequences that ultimately lead to B-flat major, a tritone away from the tonic.
Do you hear the "laughter" in these sequences?

Defense chiefs of S. Korea, U.S. talk N. Korea, THAAD deployment - Duration: 1:58.
It was the first Seoul-Washington defense talks since President Trump's new defense
chief was sworn in.
The two sides agreed to push ahead with the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system,...
and the talks wrapped up with a strong message against North Korea.
Kim Hyun-bin starts us off from the defense ministry
U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis and South Korea's Defense Minister Han Min-koo
sat down on Friday for their first face-to-face meeting since Mattis was sworn in by President
Trump around a week ago.
Emerging from the talks,... Mattis said the two allies are taking defensive measures to
counter North Korea's ever growing nuclear and missile threats.
He added that any use of nuclear weapons by North Korea would be met with an overwhelming
response.
"Any attack on the United States, or our allies, will be defeated, and any use of nuclear weapons
would be met with a response that would be effective and overwhelming."
The two allies also discussed additional defensive measures to counter North Korea's nuclear
and missile threats, including deployment of the U.S. missile defense system THAAD.
The THAAD battery is expected to be deployed on South Korean soil by the middle of this
year at the earliest.
South Korea's defense chief said the meeting shows how committed the allies are to countering
North Korea's threats.
"These South Korea-U.S. defense talks show that our resolve to counter North Korea's
nuclear and missile threats is unwavering... and it serves as a strong warning to Pyongyang."
The two defense chiefs also discussed the possibility of an intercontinental ballistic
missile launch by North Korea and agreed to put more pressure and sanctions on the regime
if the launch goes forward.
Experts have speculated North Korea could launch an ICBM on February 16th to mark the
birthday of its late former leader Kim Jong-il.
"Mattis is now in Tokyo for talks with his Japanese counterpart, and the North Korea
threat is likely to top the agenda there, too.

Hi all.
I'd like to spend our time today talking about one patient who has come back for the second
time.
The first time she lost 40 pounds.
She's back now, not having done the transition/maintenance and not only putting back the 40 pounds that
she took off but adding another seven.
When I spoke to her today, she had just finished her first full month on the program and had
lost 23 of the 47 pounds.
I asked her: what was going on?
She said the first time that she was here, she was angry, the people around her where
angry, her friends were not accepting of the program.
But because the person who had referred her had been so successful, she continues to come
but the program was a total struggle.
She had lost her weight, not as much as she would have liked but she certainly was feeling
better and left.
She said she didn't wish to be bothered anymore and therefore did not involve herself in the
maintenance/transition program.
She put back all of the weight she had lost plus seven pounds and returned a month ago.
She's been a star this month and I asked her: What was the difference?
She said to me: The difference is incredible.
I looked around me and I found that no one really cared if I lost the weight nor did
they care if I didn't lose the weight.
What they were more concerned about than anything else was my behaviour and how it affected
them and I realized that the reason I was so angry is I was spending so much time trying
to accommodate everything that was going on.
This time I came back I had been listening to some of your videos, watching them, thinking
about them and you helped me make a decision.
I sat down with my little girl self and I said to her I want to lose weight and you're
going to be unhappy and the reason you're going to be unhappy is because you're going
to want me to have fun and to cheat and I'm going to tell you no.
Other people are going to be impacted because I won't be having dinner with them or I
won't be going someplace but none of that is going to control me any longer.
If I really want to feel good I'm going to have to lose weight.
Spring is not far off and I want to get into a bathing suit and I want to feel sexy and
feminine and comfortable in the only way that's going to happen is if I do Accu Weight-Loss
the way I need to do it.
So I've told my child self that I love her.
I told my child self that we're going to talk but I told my child self that I'm in charge.
This is my opening to you today and I hope that we're going to be able to continue it.

Marble Nail Art // Simple & Quick // Veronica Marie - Duration: 2:56.
Hey guys welcome back, it's Veronica and in
today's video I'm going to show you guys
how to create cute and simple marble
nail art. So all you're going to need for
this is some white and silver nail
polish ( and if you have a darker color of
silver as well you could use that too).
You're also going to need some sort of
plastic. Whether it's just a ziploc bag
or just some plastic you have lying
around, and then lastly you're just going
to want the paper or even an issue just
to dab off some of the polish. So the
first thing we're going to do is just
paint our nails white. And after you're
done painting your nails white you just
want to make sure that they're fully dry.
Then you're just going to take your
plastic and your piece of paper, And
since I'm using a ziploc bag I'm just
going to open it.
And then I'm just going to take two
drops of silver nail polish and put it
on top of the plastic. So now you're just
going to take your silver polish and rub
it around in the plastic. Once you kind
of have it rubbed around you can just
dab some of it off on a piece of paper.
Then you will kind of be able to see a
pattern on the plastic; And now you're
going to want to press this onto your
nail. And you can kind of look on your
plastic to see what design you want on
your nail. And if the nail polish on your
plastic bag starts to dry,
don't worry you can just put a little
more polish on and do the same steps
again. Another thing you could do to make
this a little more dimensional is you
could add some darker nail polish to
your plastic, and then dab that on top of
the lighter polish. This definitely
looks way cooler off camera because the
silver that I use is a metallic and so
it actually really help with the marble
look. So once you finish dabbing on your
silver polish you can just take a q-tip
with some nail polish remover and clean
up your nail.

LED Dog Collar- Dog Collar Led - Necklace dog - Duration: 3:17.
Today I decided to show you how to craft a collar for your pet.
We will first retrieve 5mm LEDs on an electronic map or can purchase them.
I recovered 6 Blue LED
We will solder the LED between them.
+ To the +
and - to -.
We get 2 pairs of LED and LED 2 no welding..
You can increase the number of pair for a longer necklace.
I use a transparent PVC hose of 6 mm and 4 mm outside inside.
Cut up pieces of 18cm if not the scattering of light will not be good.
For a collar about 60 cm,
I use 3 pieces of 18cm
Fill a glass of water yes yes a glass of water
it is not for drinking.
Immerse two tubes one by one
and connect a pair leds and a simple led
without it any air

You should get this.
It only remains to connect the last tube with the other two
So you get this

I use 3 LR44 battery, metal bent much glue on the magnet.

We will strengthen the joints with hot glue.
You can wet the fingers to form the still hot glue.
We will then use a hose to the larger size.
It is 10 mm in outer
and 8 mm in inside.
Put a little oil to facilitate the passage of the pipe
So we pass the first pipe into the second this will protect
Add the second magnet and secure with glue.
We will make the housing for batteries
Use a 14mm pipe outside and 10mm inner
Then a second 15mm pipe outside
and within 13mm.
Put your batterie in the largest tubing
and with the other pipe cut two smaller end that
will hold and joining with the collar.
With the long exposure of my camera I got a nice pictures

Verification of Newton's Second law Arrange a cart on a table with blockade and
a pulley.
Tie the cart with a piece of twine.
The mass of the cart is 500 g.
The twine on the cart is passed over the pulley to a weight hanger.
A weight of 50 g is hung on the weight hanger.
As soon as the weight is released, the cart starts moving and is stopped by the blockade.
Note the distance moved by the cart and the time taken to travel the distance.
Calculate the acceleration of the object.

It is found to be same.
Hence, Newton's Second Law is verified.
