I am a photographer specialised in Fashion and Nude.
In this video I would like to talk about very common topic how to become a photographer.
First thing which comes to anyone's mind about becoming a photographer is that how to get
started in their photography career.
The thing you need to understand is that photography is not always about business or money.
Photography is about Passion.
And most good photographers or most talented photographers are the one who nurtured their
passion.
They didn't get into photography because they think they can make money or photography is
a cool job.
They get into photography because they liked clicking pictures and started clicking pictures
and on the way they learned they can make money from it.
So, then they become photographers.
You need to know whether you have the passion for the photography or you are just getting
into this business because you think it's a cool job or for money.
So, If you have decided why you are doing photography.
If you are doing it for passion, then I can guarantee you that you can go ahead with your
journey.
It is going to be very beautiful and awesome, you will have lot of satisfaction from this
career.
I can assure you that.
But, If you are doing it just for money or just for the sake of thinking it's a cool
job.
I don't think this is the right field for you because as a photographer I know that
there are problems like in every other field.
It have the same problems like any other profession.
So, it is not easy to become a photographer as a business person.
If you have passion, you just want to become a photographer, you enjoy clicking pictures
- go ahead you can do it.
But, to make money out of it is whole different thing.
There are various genres where you can make money.
There are weddings, there is fashion, advertising, wildlife and all these categories are different.
Earnings from one category is entirely different from another category.
For example, earnings from wedding is entirely different from earnings from wildlife or advertising.
So, these thing needs to be understood before you get into photography.
As I was saying if you are doing it for passion, you don't have worry about anything.
You just start clicking pictures and sooner or later you will find your passion for particular
genre in photography and then you can go with that.
But, If you think that you want to become a fashion photographer and shoot models and
all.
You may not be able to do it unless you absolutely have interest in it.
Now, you have an idea about whether you are doing it for passion or whether you are doing
it for career.
The place to start learning photography if you are a beginner is GET KNOWLEDGE.
I mean you can search Google, you can search YouTube, you can get information from anywhere.
I mean the basic photography knowledge is freely available throughout the internet.
YouTube is full of photography tutorials, internet is full of photography websites.
You can get it for free and there are lot of free stuff available.
You don't have to pay anything to learn photography.
I mean basic photography.
If you want to branch it out to specialised photography like fashion or if you want to
do wildlife, wedding then you might want to get specialised knowledge and most of the
specialised knowledge is not available for free.
Either you need to join a course or attend a workshop or you need to work under some
expert photographers for sometime.
Because, you cannot learn the business aspect of photography from YouTube or Google.
For that, you need to actually see a photographer, you need to interact with a photographer,
then only you will understand the business aspects of it.
So, I would say that if you are a beginner, get maximum knowledge you can get at free
of cost.
Don't pay anything, don't pay to learn ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance everything.
It is freely available throughout the internet.
Just learn these stuff and once you think you can click better pictures then think about
whether you want to take it as a passion or carer.
If you want to take it as a passion, don't have to worry about anything.
Just keep clicking and you will learn everything what you learn from any course.
But, if you want to take it as a career, I recommend you work under a photographer for
some time so you will get the business Knowledge.
It will help you in getting the business aspect of photography.
Once you have got the knowledge and once you are comfortable that enough skills in the
photography.
You know camera setting, you know the buttons in cameras, if you feel comfortable in all
these things.
Then, what you need to do is that you need to work with other photographers or the people
in the industry.
That is called networking.
Networking is very much important for photography business.
Once you start networking, then no need to tell you what to do.
You will go to places you want to go.
You will automatically learn things which you want to learn.
So, networking is very important and once you start networking you will see the scope
of this business and scope of the industry.
That is all I would like to talk about how to become a photographer.
As I was saying, knowledge is very much important.
Get the knowledge from wherever it is.
I can tell you, you don't need to spend lot of money in getting these knowledge.
Basic knowledge is freely available throughout the internet.
So, get the knowledge and once you understood the camera.
Try shooting that you can click the pictures and if you feel like you are good with street
photography you can become a street photographer.
If you feel you are good with landscape photography, you can become a landscape photographer or
if you simply think you like clicking the pictures of food, then you can become a food
photographer.
You will understand that only once you know the camera, once you started clicking it.
If you are a beginner, you cannot decide it right now.
So, once you have decided what genres of photography, then you will automatically understand what
to do with your skills , what to do with you knowledge.
