What is HoOponopono: How to Find Inner Peace with Yourself - Duration: 9:36.

Do you find that you're constantly getting irritated throughout the day, snapping at

loved ones and feeling resentful when you do things for others?

Something that will help turn that around for you is finding more inner peace.

Hi, I'm Christina Marlett, creator of Courageous Self-Care, and today I'm going to show you

how to get that inner peace using the Ho'oponopono process.

For the best advice on how to practice self-care that goes beyond bubble baths, chocolate and

wine, subscribe to my channel and hit the bell to be notified when I post a new video

every Thursday.

If you've been holding onto blame, resentment or bitterness from past experiences, by the

end of this video you'll know how to easily release that energy and move on so that you

have more inner peace.

I've used this process on dozens of my private and group coaching clients with incredible

results, and now it's your turn.

I'm going to share the Ho'oponopono process with you in three steps.

So first of all, step one: What is Ho'oponopono process?

Well, it started centuries ago in Hawaii.

It's an ancient Hawaiian healing practice, and it was modernized by several people.

Dr. Hew Len is someone from Hawaii who uncovered it from a great healer and teacher.

And Joe Vitale, author of Zero Limits and many other popular books found Dr. Hew Len,

and had him explain what, well, what he thought was an urban myth.

So the story is, a true story, is that Dr. Hew Len worked, well, first of all he learned

the Ho'oponopono process, and then he was invited to work in prison where it was very

high security.

Everyone, all the employees detested their jobs.

They didn't like going there.

There was a lot of turnover.

The inmates were in shackles or solitary confinement.

It was a very unpleasant place to be.

So they needed a psychologist.

They invited Dr. Hew Len and he said, "I will go there as long as you don't question my

methods."

They were desperate so they agreed.

Dr. Hew Len, once he got there, he only went into his office.

He didn't have contact with anyone, and day after day he would practice the Ho'oponopono

process.

He would pour over the charts of the inmates, and practice forgiveness towards them.

Within several months, the employees noticed that the prisoners were behaving differently.

The shackles came off.

They were able to bring prisoners out of solitary confinement.

And things just kept on getting better and better.

The employees enjoyed themselves more, and the prisoners kept on being released.

They had turned a corner, something had shifted, so much so that within three years they had

to close down the institution because there were no more inmates left.

And that was a direct result, they didn't do anything differently, it was a direct result

from this Ho'oponopono practice.

Step number two is getting clarity on what you want.

So I'd like to share with you the result of one of my clients who I did this Ho'oponopono

healing practice with.

She was someone who was divorced, she had a young child, and her relationship with her

ex was troublesome.

They hadn't had a decent conversation in over a year.

Whenever they did see each other, they argued.

They both wanted their daughter to have loving parents, but they just didn't know how to

proceed and how to work things out between the two of them so they could be civil to

each other.

My client, her name was Chelsea, she set the intention that she wanted to have peace with

her ex, and that's what this Ho'oponopono process really does.

So Chelsea set the intention that she wanted to find peace with her side of the relationship.

I took her through a private session where we did this practice, and the next time I

saw her, well during the process she said, "Ah, I notice a significant difference.

I feel like this weight has been lifted.

I feel open.

I don't feel that heaviness that I felt before."

She didn't do anything differently, but the next time she saw her ex, she said, "We had

our first civil conversation that we've had in a year," and she attributed it to specifically

that healing session that we did, and what the difference was she got clearer on what

she wanted.

She set the intention for peace.

She went through the actions and the prescribed sequence for the Ho'oponopono healing process,

and that was the result.

Her relationship with her ex-husband improved significantly.

What would you like to find more inner peace with?

It might be a person, a place, a memory, a circumstance, even an object.

Comment below and share it with our community, and don't be shy.

The first step to forgiveness and inner peace is acknowledging what you want to let go of,

so please leave a comment below.

Step number three is learn the mantra.

So Ho'oponopono is based on the four most powerful phrases in any language, and we can

say them in English.

It still works, although of course originally they were in Hawaiian, and they work in Hawaiian

too.

I don't know the Hawaiian words, I just know the English.

So the mantra is: I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you.

And here's why it works and how it works.

The I'm sorry, please forgive me is referring to the energetic tension that you have around

a person, place, thing, object, situation, circumstance, memory.

What you're doing is you're saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't actually know that I had this program

running, this energetic tension.

Please forgive me.

And you're speaking to the power that is greater than you.

You could call it God, Creator, Spirit.

You're also speaking to your soul, your spirit, the part of you that is connected to all energy

throughout the universe.

So you're saying, "I'm sorry, please forgive me."

And it's not, "I'm so sorry, please forgive me."

It's very light.

It's like you just bumped into someone at the grocery store looking at the cantaloupes.

"Oh, I'm sorry, please forgive me."

The thank you is you're referring to thank you for your forgiveness, thank you for helping

me release this, and I love you is referring to that part of yourself that has had tension.

You're forgiving yourself for having this running program, this energetic tension.

Once you address it with this mantra, miracles happen.

So, here's how you use it.

You can say it towards a person, place or thing in your mind.

You can say it out loud.

You can say it as a prayer.

I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you.

I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you.

That is how you do the Ho'oponopono process.

But what happens when you add music and movement to enhance your forgiveness?

As a certified embodiment coach, I use a lot of music and movement when I work with my

private and group coaching clinics, because when you add those elements to healing, it

makes it permanent.

It accelerates it, and it makes it much lighter and more enjoyable.

I would love for you to experience the power of the Ho'oponopono process when you add music

and movement.

I've created a guide for the entire process, step-by-step, and I would love to share that

with you so that you can experience the incredible results of the Ho'oponopono as a full-bodied

experience.

Heroes of Lore and Legend: Part V - Dalton Greyjoy (ASOIAF) - Duration: 4:59.

For thousands of years the people of the Iron Islands dedicated themselves to a culture

of raiding and pillaging, while worshipping the Drowned God and living off the sea.

Although they valued their independence, they often united under powerful families like

the Greyjoys of Pyke or House Hoare who went on to conquer the riverlands.

But after the doom of Valyria and Century of Blood, House Targaryen of Dragonstone invaded

the continent and conquered nearly all Westeros.

For over a century the Ironborn accepted subjugation, choosing House Greyjoy to lead them as Lords

under a Targaryen King.

And were now forced to make the long journey to essos or beyond to follow their reaver

traditions.

In 113AC, Dalton Greyjoy was born and early on in his life proved a valiant and skilled

warrior.

By the age of 5 he was rowing for the Ironborn and by the age of 10 was raiding the Basilisk

Isles alongside his uncle.

By 14 Dalton had fought in a dozen engagement and sailed as far as Old Ghis, even claiming

4 Salt Wives.

Salt wives were women taken as secondary partners for Ironborn warrior, tending to their needs

while away at sea.

And while a man could possess several salt wives, they could take only one Rock Wife,

who served as their legitimate spouse on the Iron Islands.

During Dalton's travels he also came to possess a Valyrian steel sword called Nightfall,

taken off the dead body of a corsair.

At the age of 15, the young greyjoy saw his uncle kill during a raid against the stepstones,

and so Dalton went on a vicious rampage in retaliation, emerging from the battle covered

in blood from a number of wounds.

And so was henceforth known as the Red Kraken.

Later that year, Dalton's father passed away, and so he returned to the Iron Islands

and claimed the Lordship of the territory and immediately ordered his people to build

ships and train warriors.

In 129 AC the continent of Westeros was torn apart by civil war following the death of

King Viserys I. Dalton Greyjoy, now 16 and Lord of the Iron Islands, was said to have

laughed when he heard of the outbreak of war, and was now being courted by both sides for

the power of his mighty fleet.

The Green faction representing King Aegon II, offered to make Dalton Master of Ships,

if he would sail his forces to Blackwater bay and engage the fleet of Lord Corly velaryon.

The Black faction, representing Queen Rhaenyra however offered a better deal in the eyes

of the Ironborn, giving them free reign to do as they please as long as they targeted

Green faction territories.

The Red Kraken therefore fought for the Blacks, raiding the coast of the Westerlands, looting

and pillaging without mercy as they had in the days before Targaryen conquest.

Although Lord Jason Lannister was busy fighting in the riverlands and was therefore unable

to help defend his lands, his wife Johanna Lannister took action, sealing the gate of

Casterly Rock and saving their fortress from being attacked.

The rest of the westerlands however suffered greatly with Lannisport sacked, the Lannister

fleet burned and hundreds of women taken captive, including the favorite mistress of Jason Lannister

and their daughters.

Dalton Greyjoy then took his forces to capture the city of Kayce before moving on to Fair

Isle and faircastle ruled by House Farman.

Again the Ironborn ravaged the land, with the Red Kraken capturing 5 of Lord Farman's

daughters, keeping 4 for himself as salt wives, and giving the 5th and least attractive of

them to his brother Veron Greyjoy.

Although the Dance of the Dragons civil war ended in 131 AC with the ascension of Rhaenyra's

son King Aegon III, Dalton refused to stop his raids, openly defying Targaryen rule.

Through his many years of battle and return to the traditional ways of the Ironborn, the

Red Kraken was widely admired and respected by the warriors of his homeland but in the

end lost his life when a concubine named Tess slit his throat in the middle of the night,

before throwing herself into the sea.

With their leader dead, having never had a rock wife and produced any legitimate heirs,

the Iron islands fell to infighting, with Dalton's sons born by salt wives, as his

closest living heirs.

The Red Kraken became a legend amongst the Ironborn and beyond for his ravaging of the

Westerlands, but the Lions of Casterly Rock would not allow their raids to go without

response.

Unfortunately Jason Lannister died during the Dance of the Dragons, and so it fell to

his widow Johanna, who sent her men at arms to sail aboard the fleet of Ser Leo Costayne,

Lord Admiral of the Reach.

In 134 AC, this combined force raided the Iron Islands, capturing one of Dalton Greyjoy's

salt sons, gelding him, and making him into the court fool of Casterly Rock.

3 Times Scientists Did Weird Experiments With Rubber Ducks - Duration: 6:26.

SciShow is supported by Dashlane.

When you think of rubber ducks, you probably think of bubble baths,

those huge adorable sculptures, or debugging — if you're into programming.

Or maybe you heard about that study that found over 9.5 million bacterial cells

per square centimeter living inside the average toy...

The point is: they don't seem all that useful for much outside the tub.

But it turns out that rubber ducks have been used by scientists

in at least three ways — examining everything from ocean currents

and glacial runoff to better wildlife counting methods.

To start, let's go back to 1992.

On January 10th,

a cargo ship on its way from China to the US lost some containers

with 29,000 rubber ducks and other bath toys.

These plastic critters, called "Friendly Floatees," spent at least 10 years

drifting in the open ocean, pushed and pulled along with currents.

Some ended up thousands of kilometers from the original spill site

as far north as Sitka, Alaska or washing up in Scotland nearly 12 years later.

Tracking and reporting Floatee sightings

became a worldwide citizen science project.

The oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeyer took the lead

in tracing systems of ocean currents called gyres as they swirled

between North America, Asia, and Europe.

These oval-shaped vortexes are driven by wind patterns

and the Coriolis forces generated by the Earth's rotation.

Now, how many of the ducks were found where, and when,

helped Ebbesmeyer and his team learn about the rotation speed

and size of two gyres in the Pacific Ocean.

The researchers found that ducks in the North Pacific Subpolar Gyre

took around three years to do a full spin in the waters

between eastern Siberia and southern Alaska.

Its neighbor, the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre,

includes roughly 20 million square kilometers of ocean between

Japan and the west coast of the U.S — all North of the equator.

Understanding the rotation of these gyres isn't just cool information.

It's important because the vortexes collect junk like plastic debris in the center,

kind of like the bubbles in the center of your morning coffee as you stir in sugar.

The North Pacific Subtropical Gyre is infamous for this very reason,

boasting a Texas-sized plot of pollution called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

And by understanding gyres better

and the movement of plastics that get trapped by them

we might get better at targeting our ocean cleanup efforts.

Now, nearly 20 years after the Friendly Floatees went overboard,

scientists from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory intentionally threw

90 rubber ducks into a hole on Greenland's Jakobshavn glacier.

Specifically, it was a moulin — a hole up to 10 meters wide

that lets melting water seep into and below the glacier.

These intrepid duckies were labeled with the NASA scientists' contact

information in three languages, along with a promise of a $100 reward,

in the hopes that citizen scientists would find and report their locations.

And these cheap, trackable, floating markers were supposed to help

researchers learn more about where and how the water flows beneath the ice.

Understanding glacial runoff is important, because melting glaciers

contribute to sea level rise,

which will eventually threaten coastal cities with floods.

Chunks of glaciers breaking off and glacial runoff amounts

may change seasonally, which we hope to learn more about.

Researchers targeted the Jakobshavn glacier specifically because it's where

nearly 7% of the ice that's breaking off of Greenland comes from.

Unfortunately, not a single member of this duck expedition,

or the GPS probe dispatched along with them, was ever seen again.

More recently, scientists used life-size rubber replicas of generic ducks

not the yellow bath toys — to create a wildlife-counting competition

that they called the #epicduckchallenge.

In Adelaide, Australia, researchers placed thousands of duck decoys

in 10 colonies on a local beach

meant to simulate breeding colonies of the greater crested tern.

And then it was time to count.

Trained wildlife spotters used more traditional counting methods,

like binoculars or scopes on tripods, from around 37.5 meters away

to mimic a normal distance that wouldn't scare birds away.

And they took about 5 to 10 minutes to count, on average.

Other study volunteers, who mostly weren't trained ecologists

tallied rubber ducks using drone photos instead.

These pictures were taken from heights of 30, 60, 90, or 120 meters,

and some of them turned out blurry because of the wind and vibrations.

The researchers also tested an algorithm to count the birds in these photos,

which required some human input to pick the right area

and isolate the ducks from the background.

And turns out, both kinds of counting with drone photos

were 43-96% more accurate than counts taken from the ground

with kinda blurry photos

and between 92-98% more accurate with high-quality photos.

So if we can develop a computer algorithm to count the wildlife in the photos

without our help, that seems like a really efficient way

to take animal census data.

And that can help conservationists step in sooner to help threatened species.

And just like a drone and a well-designed algorithm can count birds

much more accurately than I can, I also rely on computer science

to organize my passwords and keep my work and privacy secure.

Come and find out

And now I'm walking along the road ...

Show People with Paul Wontorek: Joshua Henry of CAROUSEL - Duration: 20:23.

--Joshua Henry received Tony nominations for his work in the musicals the

Scottsboro Boys and Violet, both times playing African-American men confronting

racism in the deep south. Now the talented charmer is breaking

boundaries by taking on one of the most iconic roles in the musical theatre

canon: Billy Bigelow in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel. Here Henry talks

about the challenges of playing Billy in 2018, his journey of ups and downs to

Broadway fame and what it's like to sing Soliloquy every night as a father of a

newborn son, on this week's Show People.

--How's it going Josh? -- It's going great.

-Yeah you're on Broadway. You're back on

Broadway. --Come on, back on Broadway!

I missed it.

--Yeah --I really missed it.

--Oh yeah so you were you were on the road

--I was on the road. --You were doing Hamilton.

--I've been doing --Mr. Burr

--Yes. --You've been doing that, now you're back and you're

Billy Bigelow. Now, I have to tell you you're sitting with a Carousel freak.

Okay. --Like this is my favorite show and

Billy Bigelow is my favorite character

--Of all time? --Yeah.

--So you're here. Hi. --Damn. All right.

--Well I love this role. It's a fantastic role. Do you know how many

other men would knock you down a staircase to play this role? Many of them

have sat in that chair.

--Some of them visit me at the stage-door

they're like this is my favorite role of all time

I'm like security back em up.

Yeah, there's a lot of people who

want to do this role. This is this is like one of the biggest roles, so I feel

really honored to be playing this right now.

--This was something a lot of guys

love to sink their teeth into.

--I knew this was like a huge iconic role, one of

the biggest in musical theater and that's what really excited me about it. I

love playing characters that you know they're arc is tremendous and they have

incredible songs and Soliloquy being one of the

--best songs. -- Best songs, one of the

biggest and longest, maybe the longest.

--How many minutes is it?

--Oh, I think it's like seven? At least.

Is there a lot of song longer

than Soliloquy in the musical theater cannon?

--I don't know any --So I love big

juicy roles like this and having a great time every night with this cast

--That Soliloquy, let's talk about that. I remember when I first heard that song

when I was a kid. I don't think I knew what a soliloquy was about at that time

you know what I mean? But it's such a, Billy Bigelow finds out he's gonna be a

dad right? And of course you've been performing it as you were waiting to be

a dad. We're gonna we're gonna talk about little Samson at home.

--My boy Samson --But but this guy

who's sort of a mystery suddenly finds out that he's going to be a father and

everything just sort of breaks open

--Everything changes right there. It's kind

of like a you remember in Saved by the Bell how Zach used to like pause things. He

it's like Billy's like pause world I got to think about this whole thing and then

he goes through this little journey. That's what it is I'm like I'm gonna be

a dad. Oh my gosh, yes! Wait that's hard, and could it be a girl?

--Right I love that

you compared it to Saved by the Bell. Did you actually just do that?

--I've literally

just came up wiht that. Never thought about that before but

pause hmm resume. --This is not a role

that many black actors have taken on. I don't know any.

Do you? --Nor do I.

--I mean not on Broadway --Certainly not on Broadway.

And that feels

really, I'm very honored and super grateful to have been chosen to do this

role at this time. And it's huge. It's huge it's a huge moment for for me and

for Broadway and our actors of color and I think it's you know some people come

to me at the stage door and they're like thank you for opening these doors and

I'm like well I didn't actually, I mean, I'm thankful for the moment, so that I

can sort of show people what I can do but I think about people like

--Good way to work the title in by the way Show People

--Oh-oh! I'm just off the top the dome right now.

Look at that. The doors

were opened for me by Stokes and Norm and Billy Porter and you know. So I'm

grateful to walk through these doors and sort of make a little bit of room, and

I'm hopeful for for what the future holds for actors of color and for

everyone. And I think Broadway is huge in that way in that they do things that

have never been done before and take chances. So I'm, you know, not to go back

to my last show, the famous one, but I'm not throwing away my shot on this one.

--Yeah yeah and it's what I was thinking is really interesting is that

so many the opportunities you've had on Broadway, by the way, two Tony nominations

and and you've been phenomenal and every show I've ever seen you in, but so many

times you're actually your characters are commenting on the African-American

experience. It's it's sort of a part of one of your story in so many of these

roles, and it's interesting that that's not at all what you're dealing with here.

And is that different for you or is every character just have their own

journey and that's sort of incidental to it?

--Well I think with this character, with with Billy Bigelow, you bring yourself to

the character. And in rehearsal, we would have these moments, and everyone would

some around the room were like well that's not the way that it was... that's

the way that it was written! But just because I bring what I

bring, it brings out a moment a little bit more. And I actually didn't think

about that in terms of you know that's my first thing being Scottsboro Boys

--Right which was a real life case, which is a real guy who existed.

--Yes, absolutely. But this character, you know, at 19 around the 1900. Billy Bigelow

yeah he didn't have much education you know he got by on his charisma and one

of the people in history that I thought about for this character was Blackjack

--Blackjack Johnson

--Cause he's a famous boxer I mean heavyweight champion. He

just kind of did whatever he wanted to do, and he got by on his charm and his

talent. And you know he dated white women,

which at the time was not a was not

accepted. So I sort of thought thought about him when I was thinking about

Billy Bigelow, but yeah, he's certainly ahead of his time.

And it's interesting to bring that energy into a piece like this without

changing a lot, you know, without changing words and lyrics and things like that.

--There's been a lot of talk about doing this show today. The MeToo movement the

Time's Up movement. Billy Bigelow is abusive character in the plot.

--Yeah --Kind of

is a guy who lashes out right? And maybe he just... I mean you don't see much of it

on stage, but you hear about it. What is it like for you to explore that today,

and what's it been like for the production?

--Well, it's hard. I mean, it's

it's hard for me to you know to reckon with I think when you're playing this

character, the fact that he is abusive and violent.

I'm not those things, so but along with that violence, which we don't shy

away from you know he loves his wife and his child so much. And I think that's the

what's the biggest challenge with this role is there's things are so

intertwined. And Rodgers and Hammerstein

I think did a great job of creating such

a complex character that has to reckon with those two things and I think that's

why it's such a beautiful journey to take on. It's I love playing roles that

they're not just the good guy or the bad guy. How do we ride that wave, you know,

throughout the night? And that's my that's my challenge in this role.

--Critiques of the show have been difficult for me to listen to sometimes

as a fan of the show because the show is deals with these things.

--Right. Is there a

second chance? Can you bounce back from something so heinous, you know? Can

you be redeemed? That's a really big question that I think you know in 1945

we were asking, and you know maybe people a little uncomfortable. And now we're

asking, and it's okay to be I think it's a good thing to be a little

uncomfortable and to ask these really hard questions in the theater. And that's

why Roger and Hammerstein were ahead of their time.

--Okay we're gonna take a quick

break. We're gonna be back. We're going to talk more about my favorite musical ever

written Carousel.

[music]

[music]

--And we are back with Josh Henry.

So how's that Jessie Mueller? How's she

doing? --The pits!

--She is your Julie Jordan. She's a queer one, Julie Jordan

--She sure is.

She's incredible like I can't even. When we just started working together, I had

to talk talk about Beautiful and Waitress and

--You had to have

your fanboy -- I had to yeah I was like, look you're

gonna sit here and you're gonna take this.

She's so humble and just like ahhh. I

was like strap you in this chair. You're

just gonna take this for five minutes. --I gotta get this out of my system!

--Okay? She's absolutely incredible to

work with. She's an amazing actress and singer and just a chameleon. She can do

anything. She's so sweet and so generous and you

know really a solid woman. And I think she's got this really spiritual thing

about her, which I really dig and I think you know talking about Carousel before

we went and did this we were very excited about not backing away from the

spiritual aspect of this, and bringing it out even more. So I'm loving loving her

loving having her as my Julie. --Speaking of spiritual sounds like you had a

pretty spiritual upbringing right?

--Yeah. --Let's dig into this a little bit.

You actually were what born in Winnipeg?

--Yes --So why were your parents in

Winnipeg? -- So my parents were in Winnepeg

--Give me the life story. -- I'm gonna give you the full

before behind the musical. So after my

parents left Jamaica they went straight to Canada.

had my sister, my brother and I. I was the youngest, and I stayed there till I was

three and then we moved down to

--Are there a lot of Jamaicans in Canada?

--Yes! --Okay.

--Yeah man. Big Jamaican population.

--[laughs]

--[speaking in Jamaican dialect] All the Carribean people go up

See that's like something my dad

Ya, man, all of them! -- I love it. Do the rest of the interview like that.

--Three years old and I went down to Miami Florida. And we wanted

to be they wanted to be closer to home, and yes. But my parents were very

spiritual folks, you know? -- Right what's your dad's name?

--Zadok. -- Cool name

--Have you ever heard that name before?

--No. --Neither has

I've never heard anyone say that name.

--It's literally the only person you've ever met with that name?

--It sounds like a character from

like Star Wars or something right? --Exactly

--But apparently he was like some high priest in the Bible. So I grew up you

know studying the Bible and you know that's a big influence on me.

--Yeah, your dad was a teacher. A Christian

Academy teacher,

--Yes and still is. So I grew up with a big spiritual influence

and you know I continued to, you know, that's a big part of my life. and

that's what really attracted me to care so as well it's you know this this this

spiritual aspect of what happens in the afterlife, and just asking all those

questions.

--That is a big part of the plot.

--Yeah. -- It reminds me of Ghost, Carousel

--[laughs] Yeah --Isn't it simmilar?

I mean like it's kind of similar. Okay so then you ended up down in Miami.

-- I went to the

University of Miami. And that really opened my mind to just different

people, different religions, all types of stuff and musical theater.

--It's kind of a

party school isn't it? --Yeah

--Did you avoid all that?

--You know, I did. And the reason why

is because I came in studying musical theater. And I was so behind. I literally

knew nothing. I mean, I got into shows when I was a junior in high school, which

is really late, and people are getting into when they're like five years old so

--What show was that?

--The Music Man.

--Oh that was in high school

--That was the first show I

did in high school. --Okay Harold Hill

--Yeah yeah yeah. I did it in college, too.

I did it at the University of Miami. That was like the last musical that I did I played Harold

Hill as well. So it was a nice full circle moment.

--Would you do it on Broadway if like Scott Rudin was like let's do

The Music Man. Want to play Harold Hill? You're into it?

--I, look you got trouble, you know?

I love that little. I love it. I do love that musical. It would be interesting to do high

school, college, and then do

professionally. I mean, come on that would be really dope.

--Okay, so you really started studying and learning musicals and listening to cast

albums. --Yes, oh yes.

--Catching up

--Literally just living in the music library,

studying the shows, and learning what music theory was, when everyone around me

knew it. So that's what kept me out of.. that's one reason I wasn't into the

Miami party scene because I had 8:00 music theory and then I would stay up til 2:00

--You were too busy listening to cast albums. --I was... let's call a spade a spade.

I started like getting roles, and got very confident, and Michael McElroy came

to our school to direct me in Violet. And I was like okay. Then I had

like the template of what I wanted to be. So like all the things came together. You

know right around my junior year. --Mike McElroy

--That's pretty much

--He's a charming guy. He can sing.

he could sang.

--Come on. Yeah. Sang with a capital "ang"

Yeah. --And then

you got out of school, and you had a gig, which was Godspell.

--Yes, still with the

spiritual, right? Everything's like... --Your whole life you've been training for

Godspell.

[laughs]

--That's right. My parents were so happy that Was it

--It must have been like, Oh! The perfect. Show business.

--Of all the shows, I'm like Mom, dad, God, Godspell. They're like hallelujah!

That's when I

met Robin DeJesus, who was a little off-Broadway show called In the Heights

at the time. And he had an audition --You were in it together at Papermill

, Godspell --Yes! Yeah.

--And it was

supposed to come to Broadway, and it didn't. --Right

--But Robin was doing this In the Heights thing and he said...

--He was like you should

come in and audition for the understudy of Benny.

And I did, and that's how I got

into the In the Heights dream team. --Which is a good team to be in

--Which is a team that

I've and haven't stopped with them and I'm literally gonna be working with them

yeah....

--All right let's talk we're gonna talk more with Josh Henry after this

break.

[music]

[music]

--And we're back with Joshua Henry.

Sounds more like a two-time Tony nominee

if I say Joshua. -- Oh, well

--Josh you know Josh is a little to casual

so you're any ensemble In the Heights and then you eventually took over as

Benny.

I remembered specifically hearing a buzz

like "You've gotta see the new Benny."

Yeah, I'm serious! -- Is that right?

--And then I saw you in The Wiz. That was kind of first time you had a nice juicy,

you know, that was like --Yeah

--A nice big moment at Encores! And that production, it

was directed by Tommy Kail. It was choreographed by Andy Blankenueler

Alex Lacaimore did the music right?

It was that team, and you were the Tin Man

and I still remember you singing "If I Could Feel." "If I Could Feel," man.

--That's the song.

--Did you sing have you sang that song since?

--Oh yeah I sing it in concerts.

--That's the song -- I love that song.

--Anyway, I was like there he is. That's that guy. That's that guy everyone's

talking about, and now you're like a big fancy Broadway star.

--That's, that's --That's how it

happens that that production of The Wiz, I just want to put I always like to

always say on record, that's a great production. --That was a great production.

--Should have moved. That was a great production.

--Is it too late?

I got my tin-man shoes on right now.

--Oh yeah you do --Slide that oil right here

-- I was

like that guy has an amazing voice, and the Tin Man is jacked.

[laughs] --That's what I thought.

--The Tin Man is... --Considering he doesn't move much.

--Look... That was part of

it, right? I'm just muscle-bound. That's what the Tin Man was, but could

tap, though, a little two-step.

--That's right that's right

--Right? --But, yeah, you know it's interesting.

Like there's the Broadway careers are shaped very

strangely because like you thought Godspell would go to Broadway, maybe the Wiz will

go to Broadway. And then and then actually you know the Scottsboro Boys

was sort of your first big moment for a lot of people to see you in a new

role and a Tony nomination.

And that and that one you got because Brandon Victor Dixon,

you know couldn't do it from off Broadway, right? --That's the great thing. And

whenever people are like, any advice?

I'm like just follow your path.

You never know where it's gonna lead. Like literally I didn't know from In the

Heights how I got that with Robin and then The Wiz!

was incredible and was supposed to this, and Godspell was supposed to do this. Like

the marquee was up it just didn't happen.

--Oh, god, was the Marquee up? I forgot. --It

was all the way up, but at that time like... So the Godspell thing happened, and then

I went back into In the Heights as a swing, and I was able to, I had like

five roles that I was you know like covering. That's where I really learned

my chops. That's where I really learned how to

really be a better performer because I

had to be in charge of four or five different roles. And I needed that. If I

didn't have that, then I wouldn't be prepared for The Wiz, and then I want to

be prepared to like take my first role in Scottsboro Boys. So yeah you know I

think all these things I mean, happened for reasons that you don't know at the

time, but you take the detour and you don't you value the detour, you see all

the bits and pieces you can pick up from it, and then you take that into your next

thing. --Right. How's your wife Katherine

--Katherine is amazing. --You guys met at

University of Miami.

--Yes. We were across hall from each other and that's how we

met. And --You met in the hall?

--We met at the

elevator! --The elevator

--And I remember, I still remember when she walked off the

elevator. She's got this beautiful red hair. And, like, she smiled at me, and I was

like oh snap! [laughs]

--But I just remember it's like she

reminded me of Wendy's, like the Wendy's girl, you know?

--The Wendy's burgers? --Yeah, Wendy

which I was, still am into, but you know, I mean, but like I was like okay.

--You had a crush on the Wendy's girl? --[laughs]

--And you were eating your fries.

--Absolutely. --And your frostee?

--Wendy. So, that's how we met, and 15 years later,

you know we're here. And now

we have Sampson. He's incredible and Katherine has been a trouper, you know?

Taking care of him, you know, while I'm in previews, you know

rehearsing for all day and then doing the shows at night. And she's an

unbelievable woman.

--Sampson was born midway through previews

--Midway --Right as previews

started.

--Thankfully, you know, he's, he came when he came, and it's nice to have a

spring baby. I always thought that's that was a really good thing. Like we wanted

to have baby in spring so that we could go for walks and stuff, but it couldn't

have been a better time doing a role like this. I mean, singing a song like the

Soliloquy before was born was was one thing. Now that he's

born, like, I'm still asking those questions, you know? Like, I wonder what he

think of me? Like what does he see when he looks at

me? What am I gonna be for him? I would do anything for him. And yes. And

it's different from night to night. And sometimes the emotions really get in,

and then you have to remind yourself, You still got to sing this thing,

man. So yeah, you're riding that wave of having emotion, the real emotions from

your real life come into the song. It's pretty wild.

--So when you're when you're

home are you just like staring at him going like I made look what we made?

--Yeah I mean I look at him like this, and I'm like you you are you real? Like

seriously. --That mug

--[LAUGHS] --Is Show People with Paul real? Is it, or is

it...

--Yes, that is a real mug.

--Yeah [laughs]

--And that's the answer like.

--Yeah, I'll hold him up. I get the football

hold going and you know it would just be like just jogging around the house like, I'm...

We're silly with it. We're silly with it. It's fun.

--That's amazing. Congratulations.

--Thank you. --It's so so cool making

families. --Making families, yeah. I mean

having this moment is, I never thought I'd be I'd have a have a baby while

doing a show about being a father. The marrying of those two things is

really special.

--I'm excited you're in it. When I heard

that, I was like that's gonna be good. With that voice and Soliloquy that's

gonna be good. Because you know you have a lot of like young fans who don't know

that maybe some of the classic musicals. It's the first time they've had the

opportunity to see it. So...

--Right so that's a cool thing

--Yeah, come on out y'all. --Come on out.

--Carousel is... --At the Imperial Theatre

--We're riding this thing all the way out.

All the way

around this carousel. --Thank you so much for being here.

Thank you for wearing

your Tin Man shoes. I didn't even realize til you said it.

--Bam. --Everyone go check out

Carousel at the Imperial Theatre.

Thank you for watching. We'll see you next time.

NHLBI Orloff Award 2017: Keir Neuman - Duration: 2:31.

MALE: You know we started this work about eight years ago and I didn't know what collagen

was.

I thought it was in my Jell-O. Collagen first of all it's the most abundant human protein

by far.

It's about 30 percent by weight.

And to understand the processes by which it's remodeled and restructured are really crucial

to understanding a lot of human physiology and then also disease.

My name is Keir Neuman.

I'm a Senior Investigator in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National

Institutes of Health.

My field of research is single molecule biophysics.

Think of a suspension bridge and that steel cabling that holds a suspension bridge.

It's not a bad analogy for collagen within the human body and like steel cabling we thought

it to be inert, it was worked on, but didn't really participate in that process.

We're experimentalists, and so when you want to figure something out you take the

next step, you make the next measurement.

We expected it to be sort of a random binding.

By following the motion of the enzyme we discovered that first it binds periodically and then

to our surprise this periodic structure actually moves.

And what this told us was that it wasn't the enzyme dictating all this, it was in fact

the collagen.

The collagen was dictating where the enzyme was binding and how it began that process

of degradation.

But over time this periodic pattern shifted.

So instead of the collagen being this rigid steel cabling within the cell what we discovered

was actually, was highly dynamic.

What that allows us to do in a larger sense is understand how does the enzyme get access

to the cleavage sites?

If I put on my physics' hat and I was thinking about what on earth is like this, and I came

upon mud.

Mud as it's drawing there's this internal strain that builds up, and when that strain

is relieved by cracking, that's identical we think to what's happening in the collagen

fibril.

So much akin to mud cracking, the collagen can crack expose these sites with enzyme combine

initiate degradation and unlike mud the collagen can re-heal and crack someplace else.

And that's why this pattern is essentially dynamic and moves through time.

There are several diseases and physiological problems that are associated with collagen

degradation and collagen remodeling, for example, cancer metastasis involves the degradation

of collagen.

By understanding this process to a much deeper level we may be able to shed some insight

and help develop either treatments or cures for some of these inflictions.

MALE: By nature, by design, human body is just incredible.

It is just an incredibly fascinating process.

And being able to understand this process is really like enjoy at a very high level

of art.

And at the same time you know it's useful.

My name is Haiming Cao and I am a biomedical researcher at the National Heart, Lung and

Blood Institute.

lncRNA is long non-coding RNA.

They are a special type of genetic information, generated from more than 90 percent of the

human genome.

They have great potential, help us understand disease condition.

So we choose to study them in the condition of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease

and fatty liver disease.

Scientists already know there are many, many lncRNA and the real question is that do they

have function?

The answer is yes.

We found that lncRNA regulate metabolism.

The first lncRNA we studied can control blood lipid level.

And we have a mouse model which has very high blood lipid level and they suffer from heart

disease.

And we use the technique to inhibit the function of one lncRNA in this mouse model and therefore

our lipid level drop by half, eliminating their risk for heart disease.

From that moment we know lncRNA has an important function in metabolism.

But there are many LncRNA and they all have different function.

So we developed a measure to predict the lncRNA function.

We use a measure called Guilt by Association.

I think a simple way to explain this procedure is like a detective try to resolve a crime.

He will feel identify everyone associated with the crime scene.

If someone just randomly crosses a crime scene for clear reason he might be innocent.

But if another individual came to the crime scene five times before it happened, stays

there the whole time and his DNA is all over the place he might be the culprit.

Basically we can identify the connection between lncRNA with many protein, which it has known

function and we use those protein's function to predict the lncRNA's function.

This measure is important because the number of lncRNA is enormous.

So we know that specific information, with our specific guidance is really difficult

to understand which direction to go.

But the procedure we set up can really speed up the process of understanding lncRNA's

function.

In the long run I know our work can help many, many people improve their quality of life.

and filled every your finger ...

take turns ...

The heat goes to your heart ...

Passing, it lights everything that meets on the way ...

Your heart beats smoothly and rhythmically.

From the heart warmth comes out ...

There is an easy pulsation through the body ...

Every cell responds with an even rhythm of life ...

Your breath is calm.

Inhale - exhalation

Inhale - exhalation

Inhale - exhalation

Cool air comes into you ...

and dissolves in you,

warmed by the warmth of your body ...

You breathe easily ...

You love this life!

She's beautiful!

The world is beautiful!

And you are part of this world!

You deserve to be spoiled, calmed and relaxed ...

Let's take a deep breath!

and exhale.

We will repeat.

Excellent!

No more stress ...

There is only a relaxed state ...

And now you are getting out of this state of relaxation.

You feel your whole body.

Now you are cheerful!

You are charged with new energy!

In the body, a tangible surge of energy!

You come to life with a cheerful state ...

and peace of mind.

You are ready for fruitful work!

At you all will turn out!
