Texas governor's school safety talks to tackle gun control

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov.

Greg Abbotts meetings on school violence and safety promised to wade into the thorny issue of gun control with the next round, even though the Republican has been a staunch supporter of gun rights and worked to expand them in the state in recent years.

Abbott called for a series of high-level policy meetings after a high school near Houston became the latest to have a mass shooting.

Eight students and two teachers were killed last week at Santa Fe High School and more than a dozen wounded.

Wednesdays meeting will include representatives of gun control group Texas Gun Sense and the Texas State Rifle Association, which is affiliated with the National Rifle Association.

A Texas Gun Sense official has said the group will press for tougher background checks for gun sales, and red flag laws that keep guns away from people deemed a danger to themselves or others.But the gun-related groups are just two of the two dozen invited to attend.

Like Tuesdays meeting, Wednesday looks to have a heavy discussion on tracking student mental health.

Abbott says he wants to keep guns away from people who would try to murder our children.

But critics say Texas isnt serious about changing its gun-loving culture.

The governor has long championed expanding gun rights in Texas, signing bills in recent years that reduced the cost and training to get a handgun license, and allowing the states 1.2 million license holders to openly carry their weapons in public.

Texas also allows rifles to be openly carried in public.

Those bills were strongly supported by the NRA affiliate attending Wednesdays meeting.

Police have said the 17-year-old suspect in the Santa Fe High School shooting used his fathers shotgun and.

38-caliber handgun.

The reaction in Texas to the shooting stands in sharp contrast to the response after the Feb.

14 rampage at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that killed 17 people.

Three weeks after that mass shooting, Florida politicians defied the NRA and passed a gun-control package after a lobbying campaign led by student survivors of the attack.

Missouri Gov.

Eric Greitens (R) launched a television campaign ad as he faces criminal allegations and possible impeachment proceedings against him.

The advertisement, which is set to air on Wednesday in Joplin, Kansas City, and St.

Louis, according to CNN, takes aim at the press coverage of allegations that Greitens took photos of a woman he had an extramarital affair with, without her consent, and threatened to blackmail her with them.

The spot is set to run through the beginning of June, which is when lawmakers in the Missouri House are expected to vote on whether to impeach the governor.

The fake news paid thousands for allegations against Greitens, the ads narrator says, adding that George Soros funded the prosecutor that pressed charges against the governor, and that Democratic leadership in the state helped orchestrate the fallout.

Dont let the liberals get away with it, the narrator continues.

Greitens has faced increasing pressure to step down after the allegations against him surfaced, but he has said he will not abandon his gubernatorial post.

I will not be resigning the Governors office.

In three weeks, this matter will go to a court of law-where it belongs and where the facts will prove my innocence, Greitens said last month.

Until then, I will do what the people of Missouri sent me here to do: to serve them and work hard on their behalf, he added.

Louis prosecutors dropped their felony invasion-of-privacy charge against him earlier this month.

CNN President Jeff Zucker on Tuesday night said President Trump is secretly watching CNN all day and all night.

Its pretty clear from his comments and tweets that he knows fully well what CNN is doing, Zucker said, though he couldnt think of any specific examples off the top of his head.

Zucker said this to ITK before a screening of CNNs new documentary miniseries 1968 at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The screening was followed by a panel moderated by CNNs Don Lemon.Though the panelists did not directly mention the Trump administration, several of them noted the parallels between 1968 and the current, tumultuous moment in U.S.

history.

Lemon told ITK that he sees similarities between the student protests of 1968 and those of today.

People were probably a little bit more open to hearing from people they didnt agree with [in 1968], Lemon said.

But I think even then and now, people dont want to hear hate.

They dont want to have to listen to hate, racism, bigotry.

The panelists included Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Taylor Branch, Boston Globe associate editor and columnist Renee Graham and Ohio State University Associate Professor of History Dr.

Hasan Jeffries.

Theres this historic struggle between those who want to maintain the status quo, preserve things as they are, and those who are contesting the status quo, who want to change things, move things in a different direction, Jeffries said, addressing the parallels between 1968 and 2018.

The event attracted about 70 people, with a strong showing from CNN.

Zucker gave the opening remarks and correspondents Kaitlan Collins, Nia Malika-Henderson, Abby Phillip, Michelle Kosinski and Jessica Schneider were all in attendance.

Other attendees included scholars of black history and filmmakers.

for our college visit.

recently sat down for an interview, where she shared her thoughts on and her acting career.

The actress began by talking about her concluded drama Grand Prince. She commented, It was great that we ended with good responses until the end.

It was bittersweet, and like any other work, I was regretful as I thought, I should have worked harder..

On the dramas , Jin Se Yeon shared, I thought I would be happy if the viewership ratings went over 2 percent, and I thought it would be great if it went over 3 percent.

So its so amazing that it ended at 5 percent.

The director contacted me and told me, The viewership ratings are unbelievable. The actress also mentioned that it was her first time carrying out a and going on a reward vacation.

Jin Se Yeon also talked about why she chose her role and the drama.

Her character, Seong Ja Hyeon, is a bright and fiery woman who faces all sorts of hardship after falling in love with prince Lee Hwi.

She explained, First of all, the script was so much fun.

I saw the scripts for around episode 2 and 3, and I was anticipating the next one.

I think I fell into reading it like I would a novel.

Also, Ja Hyeon was expressed as an incredible woman, who is hard to find not only in historical works but also in modern pieces.

I really liked that..

When asked what the most difficult moment was while portraying Seong Ja Hyeon, Jin Se Yeon answered, At first, Ja Hyeon was a bright and smiling character.

But since its a historical piece, her emotions grew deeper as the drama went on.

I think its inevitable because they cant contact each other after parting ways.

I havent portrayed deep feelings of love before, so it was difficult. She also added that her fans want her to do bright romantic comedies, and that one of the reasons she chose Grand Prince was because she heard that Ja Hyeon would remain bright in the face of hardship and darkness.

She compared the role of Seong Ja Hyeon to her previous other roles, saying, When I filmed , I filmed action scenes and scenes where I did what I had to do.

But with Ja Hyeon, she was in love from the beginning until the end.

It was hard to portray that.

I especially thought a lot about how to express her feelings when Hwi died the second time. Jin Se Yeon also explained that she had prepared for the role for a long time, so she was relieved when viewers enjoyed seeing a different side of her.

Jin Se Yeon explained that she had always felt her growth as an actress not during her current drama but in the work that followed, and that she experienced the growth from The Flower in Prison through Grand Prince. She revealed her philosophy on acting, saying, When Im working, I think, Im going to do my best, but when I look back, I feel like I havent and have regrets.

I want to be an actress that works hard until the end and doesnt lose the mindset of Ive done my best..

The actress also mentioned that she has never been in a relationship.

She commented, As I watched Ja Hyeon and Hwi, I was envious and also thought it was amazing.

I was envious of the love that Hwi was receiving and the love that Ja Hyeon was giving.

They believed in each other that much.

I thought Ja Hyeon was really amazing.

I also want to experience a love where theres that much trust..

However, she pointed out that as of now, work was her priority over dating and relationships.

Jin Se Yeon laughed and commented, Since Ive only worked so far, I feel like I have to work more.

When I work, I dont have any other thoughts other than what Im working on, which is why I think I have no relationship experience.

Ive had crushes and gone on dates.

But Ive always felt like work was more important. She continued, Im also the type of person who thinks about the end of a relationship first.

I think it doesnt work out because I think, What happens if we break up?.

She also showed her positive attitude towards criticisms of her acting.

She explained, I shouldnt read comments at all, but I end up looking at them anyways.

However, there are a lot of people who supported Ja Hyeon and I think people understood and empathized with this character the most out of the characters Ive done.

So I was able to enjoy filming..

that comes with that, or do you feel pretty comfortable where you are?

I mean, I'll be real.

I love Dreamville, and they are so sweet...

...and they definitely instill a warm, chill, no pressure type of environment

but let's just be real, there's a whole bunch of pressure in real life

like, J. Cole is the leader, the fathaaaaaaaa

So, it's like... I don't wanna come wack

when I freakin' drop a project

I want it to be as fire as his, ya know?

Well I mean, I have faith in you.

How do I cope?

I mean, honestly, I just be freaking out sometimes

I just be...losing it a bit.

Creating a project can get very stressful.

I've never done it before, so...

I don't even know, I guess I need to focus on finding a...

ok, so here's the thing about D.C. vs. L.A.

L.A. don't got no animal shelters.

on the East Coast, I just feel like

I have better access to real animal shelters where I can go see some animals

I really love animals

and the creek. I miss Rock Creek Park.

I feel like that would probably help me cope

which is why I'm just ready to be back

in real life

No diss to L.A., but...it is what it is

Hello and welcome on the Waterfalls of France channel. Today I am in the Haute loire

and I am going to see the Waterfall of Beaume

You will discover the path to go and see it

it only takes 20 mintues

There is a parking space, well equipped

which is not surprising since this waterfall the most know of the area Haute Loire

Well, Beaume is the name of the river, the waterfall and the nearby town

There is a tale here, which tells the story of a little girl

who was the daughter of Lord of Beaume who got lost

here next to the river

and she pretented she saw a demon ...

Well you can easily guess than when the Lord's daughter is lost,

everybody in the village is looking for her.

They found the girl quite quickly after she pretented to have seen a demon

But, it seems that what she saws, was a boy

the goatherd who was looking for her

Not hard to imagine that a lost child would be scared alone in the forest

and could imagine a demon. But it seems that not everyone thinks this way

Because her dad thought

when he heart his child saying : I saw a demon, that she became crazy

So the little girl and the goatherd became friends

And his dad said he knew a way against madness

It's to throw a big amount of cold water on the head of the person

so the little boy decided he could save his friend

and he brought her to the Waterfall of Beaume.

He pulled her next to the cliff by saying : Oh Can you see the Virgin Mary in the water ?

This is how they decided to jump together

During their jump, the Virgin Mary appeared and decided to hold their fall

When the girl recovered next to the river

Madness was gone ...

This how, years later, they got married and that a goatherd became Lord of Beaume.
