Elbphilharmonie | Twinkle Concert L »The Little Harlequin« - Duration: 2:24.

Hi! I'm Paul Hübner. I play the trumpet and I'm appearing at the Hamburg International Music Festival

in three productions with music by Karlheinz Stockhausen.

In »The Little Harlequin« the audience encounters five musicians who tell a story with their instruments.

A story that I don't want to spoil here...

Above all, the idea is that every member of the audience interprets it in his own way.

We don't hear any words here, just notes and tunes

that combine to tell a story.

In my opinion, children like every kind of music.

For children, it often doesn't matter at all what language someone speaks.

We speak with the language of our instruments,

and I think they actually like that a lot.

There's plenty to see on stage throughout the performance, and I think a good time will be had by all.

This Mysterious - Deep Sea Jellyfish Looks Like the Ghost of an Alien | Wikileaks - Duration: 2:58.

A beach-ball-size jellyfish that looks like a cross between an alien ghost and a pinkish

cosmetic bag was captured in a rare video taken by a remotely operated vehicle in the

inky depths of the Pacific Ocean.

The ROV, dubbed Hercules, recorded the unusual jellyfish — named Deepstaria enigmatica

after the Deepstar 4000, a deep-sea submersible designed by the French explorer Jacques Cousteau

— off the coast of Mexico's San Benedicto Island in the Pacific Ocean in November 2017,

according to a new study published in the May 9 issue of the journal American Museum

Novitates.

"It's just this crazy, weird alien thing," lead study researcher David Gruber, a professor

of biology at the City University of New York and a Radcliffe fellow at Harvard University,

told Live Science.

"We barely know anything about it."

Scientists have published studies on D. enigmatica only about a dozen times since 1966, when

three researchers aboard the Deepstar 4000 captured the first specimen.

Unfortunately, this specimen was incomplete; the jellyfish was so large, it couldn't be

completely sucked up by the submersible's suction sampler, the researchers said.

Although that jellyfish was incomplete, "much of the existing information about D. enigmatica

is from this specimen," which now resides at the British Natural History Museum, the

researchers wrote in the study.

Here's what researchers do know about the odd creature.

First, D. enigmatica has no tentacles, so it hunts by encapsulating prey within its

gelatinous, umbrella-like body.

And there aren't any reports on the species' diet, but like other jellyfish, it probably

eats small fish, crustaceans and other jellyfish, Gruber said.

As Hercules began to film the jellyfish — a large jelly more than 2 feet (68 centimeters)

long with a diameter of 1.8 feet (56 cm) — it closed its body in a rapid ripple.

Gruber said the jellyfish may have mistaken the vibrations from the ROV as tasty prey

and thus tried to bag it.

"[The jellyfish] sensed that maybe it had something potentially inside of it, and it

closed," Gruber said.

How to Sing Without Straining: Start with Silent Inhalation - Duration: 6:26.

Singing with straining affects the voice quality and ease of singing but it can also lead to

vocal damage in the long run.

Naturally, singers want to know how to sing without straining.

There may be many reasons why singers strain but in this video, I am going to talk about

one specific aspect of singing that can lead to straining when singing.

I'll talk about inhalation and more specifically about audible inhalation.

Stay tuned.

Hi, if you are seeing me for the first time, I am Katarina from How 2 Improve Singing.

You may have heard some famous and less famous singers inhale audibly when singing.

Like this one, or this one.

Or this one.

It seems to be fashionable these days to inhale with an audible noise but don't

be fooled.

Audible inhalations can be used sparingly as a way of expressing emotions but usually

audible inhalations are unintentional and they are signs of inefficient breathing.

Let me explain why inhaling audibly is not a good practice.

Audible inhalations are unpleasant and distracting, to say the least.

But here is the thing, audible inhalations are indicators of possible tension.

The audible noise that you hear is created by air passing by an obstacle or through a

narrowing somewhere in the vocal tract.

It can be the position of the tongue, tight or closed throat, narrow nasal passages, not

fully opened vocal cords.

Anything that stands in the way of air entering the lungs.

Audible inhalation is usually a sign of shallow breathing,

during which the diaphragm does not descend fully and only the upper parts of your lungs

are filled up.

Shallow breathing uses these small muscles of the neck and shoulders that have to work

very hard unnecessarily.

Tension from this area is then transferred onto your larynx, which negatively affects

the produced sound.

Also, shallow breaths don't supply sufficient amounts of air so singers may strain in order

to finish singing a phrase.

If there is not enough air, the tendency is to compensate by pushing or straining.

If you inhale audibly, the vocal tract is already constricted or strained even before

you start singing.

And the chances are that if the vocal tract is constricted on inhalation, it will be most

likely constricted on exhalation or during singing.

If you watch singers who inhale audibly, you may even notice visible signs of tension,

for example tension on the neck, moving the head or chin during inhalation, lifting and

collapsing of the chest, lifting of the shoulders and other signs.

These are all unnecessary movements that create tension.

If you observe these singers, it really looks like they are sucking air in, which requires

a lot of effort.

On the other hand, inhaling silently is an efficient way of breathing and it supports

a low and deep breath, which allows not only the diaphragm but the whole breathing mechanism

to function most efficiently.

Good inhale takes advantage of the natural need of the body for air.

So, you don't need to work hard, you just need to open your vocal tract and allow the

air to enter the lungs.

So, what can YOU do?

First step is to recognize, weather you inhale audibly or not.

Many singers are not aware of this bad habit.

I challenge you to make a recording of your singing or breathing.

Then, watch the recording and listen for audible inhalations.

If you don't observe or hear anything, you are good to go.

If you notice audible inhalations in your own singing, you can start changing the way

you inhale.

Becoming aware of audible inhalations usually improves breathing and singing drastically.

This video is a part of a free training I call "So, You Think You Can Breathe when

Singing?"

If you want to learn what is holding you back from breathing efficiently, click the link

either here or down there and join me and other singers on this journey.

That's all for now.

Thank you for watching and I'll see you in the next video.

Border Patrol agent fatally shoots female migrant, official says - Duration: 5:44.

Border Patrol agent fatally shoots female migrant, official says

EDINBURG, Texas — A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a female migrant while patrolling the border town of Rio Bravo, Texas, late Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The agent was responding to reports of activity in the town about 15 miles south of Laredo when he encountered a group of migrants who he said beat him with two-by-fours, according to a statement released by the Border Patrol.

During the melee that ensued, the agent fired and shot a female migrant in the head, the official said.

The agent gave the wounded woman CPR, and paramedics responded, but she later died, the statement said.

The incident is now under review by the Texas Rangers and the FBI.The Border Patrol did not identify the agent or the migrant who was killed.

Three other migrants were taken into custody, the statement said.

Video from the shooting scene was posted to Facebook by Laredo citizen journalist Priscilla Lagordiloca Villarreal.

In the video, the voice of the female witness filming can be heard as an agent leads two detained men from an abandoned building past green-and-white Border Patrol vehicles.

Why do you mistreated them? the woman shouts in Spanish.

Why did you shoot the woman? You killed the woman!.

The woman walks up the street, closer to the scene of the shooting.

They shot her in the head for running, she says.

They killed her..

A Texas Highway Patrol trooper approaches and can be heard on the video warning her, Maam, you interfere, youre going to be arrested.

Theyre interviewing and theyre investigating..

Another trooper can be seen behind him, stringing up yellow police tape.

A Border Patrol official, who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to discuss the incident, verified that the video posted on Facebook was filmed at the site of the incident.

As border enforcement has increased under President Donald Trump, including the deployment of the National Guard to the border last month, migrant advocates in south Texas have complained of excessive force and civil rights violations.

They note that while migrant apprehensions have increased in recent months, compared to decades ago they are historically low and include many families and unaccompanied children.

More than half of the apprehensions on the southern border are made in south Texas around Laredo and the adjacent Rio Grande Valley, according to Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Manuel Padilla Jr.

Padilla also noted during a recent briefing that assaults on agents have also increased as migrants become more desperate, at the mercy of smugglers who warehouse them in stash houses.

The dangers of crossing this border are multifaceted.

Its not just coming up through Central America and Mexico.

Theres a lot that happens afterward, Padilla said Wednesday during a briefing highlighting the discovery of 86 migrants being smuggled through south Texas in a tractor trailer hauling refrigerated fruit.

But some migrant advocates argue the agency has inflated statistics to show increased assaults on its agents.

Community groups, such as La Union Del Pueblo Entero, or LUPE, in the Rio Grande Valley, have worked with residents to film law enforcement with their cellphones, as the witness in Rio Bravo did, to hold them accountable.

The ongoing tragedy of death at the hands of border agents is something border communities know too well, said John Michael Torres, a LUPE spokesman.

Border Patrol shrugs off meaningful reforms that could bring a measure of accountability and transparency to the agency, reforms that could curb this pattern of deadly force.

Instead, the agency invents numbers showing an increase of assaults on border agents when in reality such assaults are down.

Border crossings are at near historic lows, yet Border Patrol use of deadly force persists..

Milwaukee police release video, apologize for use of Taser during arrest of Bucks G Sterling Brown - Duration: 4:06.

Milwaukee police release video, apologize for use of Taser during arrest of Bucks G Sterling Brown

Milwaukee police released video on Wednesday of a January arrest and use of a Taser on Milwaukee Bucks guard Sterling Brown.

Brown plans to take legal action.

The incident escalates around the 8:00 mark of the video embedded above.

Footage shows an officer approaching Brown's Mercedes and initiating a verbal confrontation with Brown.

"Back up.

Back up," the officer tells Brown, who is standing calmly in front of him.

"Are you obstructing me? I just told you to back up.

That's right, I told you to back up.

Cause you're going to try and get into the car.

I'll do what I want, all right? I own this right here.".

Brown and the officer continue to go back and forth while the officer waits for backup over the parking violation.

He tells a fellow officer that Brown "got right in my face" when backup does arrive.

The body camera footage shows that at least five other police vehicles arrive on the scene as the initial officer tells his colleagues that he "just wanted one" backup team.

Brown is seen surrounded by at least five officers around the 8:00 mark of the video where an officer is heard telling him to "take your hands out of your pockets now.

" The officers then gather to take Brown to the ground.

Around the 8:40 mark of the video, an officer yells "Taser, Taser, Taser" before a groan is heard from the pile.

Around the 24:50 mark, the initial officer on the scene tells Brown, now standing in handcuffs, that he didn't recognize him as a Bucks player.

Milwaukee police apologize for arrest of Sterling Brown.

Police chief Alfonso Morales held a news conference before the video was released where he read from a statement, but refused to take questions from the media.

"During the encounter, Mr Brown was decentralized, tased and arrested," Morales said.

"The department conducted an investigation into the incident which revealed members acted inappropriately, and those members were recently disciplined.".

Morales did not explain what the discipline entailed, nor did he identify the officers involved.

Captain Steven Caballero told reporters that police will be releasing the officers' information "once all statutory requirements have been met.

Both officers then walked away from the podium as reporters asked questions.

Brown released a statement shortly after the release of the video and said he intends to file a lawsuit against the Milwaukee Police Department.

After deadly school shooting, Santa Fe, Texas, holds evening of prayer and hope - Duration: 3:09.

After deadly school shooting, Santa Fe, Texas, holds evening of prayer and hope

The people of Santa Fe, Texas, know they've got some hard days ahead of them.

"This is the beginning of what will be a long process for these families in this community to build themselves back up," said the Rev.

Brad Drake, senior pastor of Dayspring Church.

It's been nearly a week since a suspect identified by authorities as 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis allegedly opened fire on teachers and eight schoolmates at Santa Fe High School, killing 10 people and wounding 13 others.

Drake says many in the community are turning to their faith now more than ever as they work to recover.

"They are still in shock.

We're just a few days into this process, and everyone processes that differently, everyone heals differently," he told Fox News.

It's exactly why he and religious leaders in Santa Fe and the surrounding area organized an evening of prayer Wednesday.

Hundreds gathered at the Santa Fe Junior High football stadium to pray, sing, and listen — as speakers recited passages from the Bible and reiterated messages of hope. "I hope to encourage others.

I hope to offer them support and to offer them some hope, the hope that's in Jesus Christ," said Stephen Wilhite, associate pastor of worship of Arcadia First Baptist Church of Santa Fe.

There's little talk of gun reform.

Many say Wednesday's gathering was neither the time nor the place for a conversation like that.

"I don't really want to go on that direction on gun reform.

This night is about and healing, and we really just want to encourage and love on the kids and the community right now," Wilhite said.

They say that right now, there's only one thing they're sure of: They'll move forward together. "What we want to be known for is what you see here, the community gathering together to be strong again, said Cindy Sanders.

We got through [Hurricane] Harvey the same way — gathering together and leaning on each other.

And, that's how we'll get through this.".

She said she was sexually assaulted by a state trooper. His camera footage shows otherwise. - Duration: 4:42.

She said she was sexually assaulted by a state trooper. His camera footage shows otherwise.

Sherita Dixon-Cole, a 37-year-old woman from Northeast Texas, was pulled over early Sunday by a Department of Public Safety officer who suspected her of driving while intoxicated.

The story Dixon-Cole spun afterward was alarming: She claimed the trooper repeatedly told her he'd let her go in exchange for sexual favors.

When she said no, she claimed the trooper sexually assaulted her, according to a statement Monday from her attorney.

Her story was widely shared on social media, aided by social activist and blogger Shaun King, who recently brought attention to the New York lawyer who made xenophobic comments about Spanish-speaking employees at a New York deli.

King wrote in a blog post: "This system was not designed to protect us – it was designed to punish us – and for it to do anything other than that – we must force it work on our behalf.".

But on Tuesday, the Texas Department of Safety released nearly two hours of body camera footage that starkly conflicts with Dixon-Cole's claims. While parts of the video are blurred or inaudible to conceal  Dixon-Cole's personal information, it shows her being pulled over and asked to take a sobriety test.

She's then handcuffed and transported to the Ellis County jail, where she's charged with a DWI.

She was released Sunday night after posting bond.

Lee Merritt, Dixon-Cole's Dallas-based attorney, apologized for her claims in a statement Wednesday, saying the footage conflicted with what was reported to him.

"It is deeply troubling when innocent parties are falsely accused and I am truly sorry for any trouble these claims may have caused Officer Hubbard and his family," he wrote.

"I take full responsibility for amplifying these claims to the point of national concern.".

He wrote that his office receives hundreds of abuse complaints from across the country and is obligated to filter them before broadcasting them.

His swiftness in publicizing Dixon-Cole's claims, Merritt wrote, was a means of getting to the truth quickly and accurately.

Merritt thanked those who voiced their demands for justice in the wake of the falsified incident.

"However," he wrote, "In this matter it seems your righteous vigilance was abused.

King, who has worked with a number of anti-police brutality and misconduct causes including Black Lives Matter and is now a columnist for national security news site the Intercept, appears to have deleted his tweet sharing Dixon-Cole's allegations.

On Wednesday, he tweeted that the body camera footage "does not appear to show any verbal threats, sexual assault, or police brutality." He also amended his blog post to acknowledge the body camera footage.

Still, the incident exemplified the power of King's position, and the widespread attention to the case could likely be traced back to his sway on Twitter.

During the Charlottesville protests in August — when six white supremacists kicked a 20-year-old African American and pummeled him with what appeared to be wooden sticks and a large board — King took it upon himself to try and identify the assailants so they could be arrested.

He was credited with identifying at least two of the attackers, The Post's Ian Shapira reported.

On Wednesday afternoon, King published an article on Medium in part titled "When the 'victim' you fought for turns out to be the victimizer," which addressed Dixon-Cole's allegations.

He wrote that Dixon-Cole stood by her claims and said the body camera footage must have been edited.

Medical examiner releases CDC doctor Timothy Cunningham's official cause of death AOL.com

The death of a CDC employee whose body was found in an Atlanta river last month has been ruled a suicide by drowning, the Fulton County Medical Examiner announced on Tuesday.

The body of 35-year-old Timothy Cunningham was found by fishermen in the Chattahoochee River on April 3, bringing the long and confounding search for the missing CDC worker to a tragic end.

His body was discovered over seven weeks after he disappeared on Feb.

12.

An autopsy at the time confirmed that the body belonged to the missing doctor, though his official cause of death was not released until today.

Cunningham, a highly regarded epidemiologist at the CDC, disappeared without a trace after he left work mid-day in February, complaining of feeling ill.

After Cunningham failed to report to work or contact his family for two days following his disappearance, his parents, Terrell and Tia-Juana Cunningham, drove down to Georgia from their house in Maryland to check on their son.

When they arrived at his Atlanta home on Feb.

14, the couple found their sons phone, keys, wallet, car and dog, with no trace of him in sight.

The unusual circumstances surrounding Cunninghams disappearance baffled authorities for weeks until his remains were discovered.

TRUMP JUST FIRED THEM ALL – 'Totally Unacceptable Here…' - Duration: 10:11.

FBI Agents Want To Be Subpoenaed To Testify Against Comey, McCabe

There are numerous agents within the FBI eager to be subpoenaed so they can testify about

problems that occurred within the bureau under the leadership of former FBI Director James

Comey and former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, according to three sources who spoke to The

Daily Caller.

All three sources are in direct contact with active FBI agents, according to The Daily

Caller.

Former federal prosecutor Joe DiGenova told The Daily Caller on Tuesday that many agents

are angry that "the bureau was used as a tool of political intelligence by the Obama

administration thugs."

"There are agents all over this country who love the bureau and are sickened by (James)

Comey's behavior and (Andrew) McCabe and (Eric) Holder and (Loretta) Lynch and the

thugs like (John) Brennan," DiGenova said.

"Who despise the fact that the bureau was used as a tool of political intelligence by

the Obama administration thugs.

They are just waiting for a chance to come forward and testify."

"I can assure you I've been approached by agents who want to be subpoenaed for the

same reason as the guys in the field," he continued.

"All over this country there are agents but the big ones the ones that matter New

York/Washington I can assure you I've spoken with agents who want to come forward."

The Daily Caller also spoke with a former Trump official who has maintained contact

with FBI agents, as well as a counter intelligence consultant who held an interview with an active

special agent of the FBI's Washington Field Office.

"TheDC independently confirmed the veracity of the consultant's position and access,

and reviewed detailed transcripts of his Q&A with the special agent, who requested the

arrangement due to internal dragnets and fear of vicious retribution," The Daily Caller

report stated.

The former Trump administration official told The Daily Caller that FBI agents would rather

be subpoenaed than risk the political and professional backlash that would likely come

with being a government whistleblower.

"(W)hen you are subpoenaed, Congress then pays … for your legal counsel and the subpoena

protects [the agent] from any organizational retaliation," he said.

"They are on their own as whistleblowers, they get no legal protection and there will

be organizational retaliation against them."

As someone who has represented whistleblowers in the past, DiGenova agreed with the former

Trump staffer's assessment.

"It's an intelligent approach to the situation given the vindictive nature of the bureau

under Comey and McCabe.

I have no idea how to read Chris Wray, who is not a leader and who has disappeared from

the public eye during this entire crisis.

You know, he may be cleaning house but if he's doing so, he's doing it very quietly,"

he said.

"I don't blame them," he continued.

"I don't blame the agents one bit.

I think that the FBI is in a freefall.

James Comey has destroyed the institution he claims to love.

And it is beyond a doubt that it is going to take a decade to restore public confidence

because of Comey and Clapper and Brennan and Obama and Lynch."

The former Trump official also claimed the corruption at the FBI goes far beyond Comey

and McCabe.

"They know that it wasn't just Comey and McCabe in this case.

That's too narrow a net to cast over these guys.

There's a much broader corruption that seeped into the seventh floor at the bureau," the

staffer said.

"They ruined the credibility of the bureau and the technical ability of the bureau, so

systemically, over the past several years, they're worried about their organizational

reputation and their professional careers," he said.

An Washington FBI agent who spoke to The Daily Caller's third source also said that "rank

and file FBI agents" are desperate for justice from the DOJ.

"Every special agent I have spoken to in the

Washington Field Office wants to see McCabe prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

They feel the same way about Comey," the special agent said, according to

transcripts provided to The Daily Caller.

"Activity that Congress is investigating is being stonewalled by leadership and rank-and-file

FBI employees in the periphery are just doing their jobs.

All Congress needs to do is subpoena involved personnel and they will tell you what they

know.

These are honest people.

Leadership cannot stop anyone from responding to a subpoena.

Those subpoenaed also get legal counsel provided by the government to represent them," the

special agent added.

These revelations about FBI agents willing and eager to testify against Comey and McCabe

come ahead of the release of inspector general's report regarding how the bureau handled the

Clinton email server investigation.

"Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced the draft report was done

in a letter to members of Congress on Wednesday," Fox News reported last week.

"He did not say when the results of the review will be officially released to the

FBI, DOJ and congressional committees."

Tae-Kyung : Folding it, we can wear it as a crop top shirt and it will be good for us.

Is its' shoulder size right to me?

Guys, it does not fit me, maybe.

The shoulder size is too small for me

Wow This jacket is so cute

Unicorn pink jacket! (She cannot hide her love for unicorn. Lol )

It's so cute isn't it?

It can fit me!

Tae-Kyoung : It looks large for you

No it isn't ever

Is it a pants with in it?

The pants would not fit me, but the top would do.

This T shirt looks small for me, but it's ok

-fitting room

It definitely looks like a sleeveless shirt!

It doesn't seem like children's wear

This T-shirt also looks like a common short sleeve.

Its shoulder size are perfectly fitted.

If you want tight fitted short sleeve, it would be better, because women's clothings come out loosely today.

I wear it lol

It's like a beach towel

It is like a beach gown .

Isn't this cute?

The neck and bust is little bit tight,

But it's ok because a crop top shirt come out with tight neck size today. No bad isn't it?

It's good with hot pants.

The next is ZARA

Cute…

Nowadays, baby pants also come out with lace detail under jeans.

So trendy~

Isn't this bag also able for adults? It's so cute

It seems pretty for adults at vacation places

There are this kind of sleeveless, also

There's also a neon colored top

It seems that ZARA has prettier items than H&M for children

The military jackets are also pretty

Aren't they?

A pink mini skirt! Cute~

This style is also at adult's clothes

This t-shirt is pretty

It'll be pretty for wearing cool at summer

Cute !

Is this a bag?

It's a bag! So cute

It feels a bit like Tropical (vacation feel)

This kind of clothes are also available

There are flamingos

And coconut trees!

There are belt ribbon details for the pants

There are all of the details that go on adult's clothes!

This one-piece seems wearable for big children

And this

Isn't this for adults?

The slippers are cute

And this bag..

Isn't it so cute? (I found out what I like.)

Look at the front pockets…they are amazing

Look at this!

It's so cute

(In fitting room) The neon top is also nice

The detail on the middle is sexy

Is this really for children? LOL

The body size is enough, but the sleeves are a bit tight

The sleeves and the neck line are uncomfortable

It'll be pretty if you grab the waist line

Won't this one?

There are this kind of skirt

This is pretty because of the shiny metal

But, the fit isn't nice

If the waist line was higher and thicker, it would've been better

This looks too fat…pass

Now Uniqlo

Guys, I have this shirt

It's a mini version of that

So cute

The pizza here is the same

Uniqlo clothes were all the same, except the size

So..

Tae-Kyoung: looks nice (for a family shirt)

So, I won't try it on

Guys, I also have this shirt

Uniqlo comes out like this

The design is the same, but the sizes are smaller

If the length was shorter, I'd try it for a crop-t, but it's not the proper length

You can't help that, because it's for children

Cute~

Uniqlo t-shirt's printings come out pretty these days

They are really pretty

There are dinosaur t-shirts for boys

They are pretty

Jurassic Park t-shirts LOL

The swimsuits are cute

It'll be so cute for children to have this on with Mini Mouse ears

If you have babies, have them wear this TT

It'll be so cute

Uniqlo seems to

Have just the same designs with only smaller sizes

There are this kind of comfortable pants

So, I don't have to try them on from Uniqulo

Well guys, I've tried to shop from the kid's zone

The size wasn't such an issue for me

You've seen it, and there were some sizes that fitted me

But, H&M was really for babies

The sleeveless shirts and t-shirts were nice

But the pants' sizes were untouchable

But, the accessories were cute (Lovely Kidults!!)

And ZARA

Had some for babies, but there was a ZARA Girl line

So, like the one-piece I showed you

That kind of size exists

So, if your size is small, ZARA Girl shopping would be nice

Anyways, after all this shopping, the items I chose are~

Tada~

Only this one! LOL (Did you expect it?)

Isn't this really small?

It's so small, but the pockets are so cute

And the glitters! Aren't they lovely?

So, I bought them for \39,000

There weren't any others catching my eye

But, it's a relief that I found an item that I like

Kid's zone shopping isn't that much of a bad idea LOL

Well, this is the end of this clip

Dgi.City's Chelsea Collier discusses New Orleans technology and what cities must do to compete - Duration: 8:42.

Frst city that I hosted the first event was in San Diego and it was really

important to do that in San Diego because they launched the world's

largest IOT IOT stands for the Internet of Things platform in the entire world

and just really such a great example of how when public and private partnerships

come together and really focus on who are we as a city what are our values

what are some of the challenges that we want to overcome and you have the right

people at the table with their own perspectives their own strengths and

their own kind of contributions, you can make anything happen. And so for San

Diego they really focus on sustainability a company or an

organization called Clean Tech was one of the very early kind of catalysts that

brought public sector of private sector and the community together to say--

what can we do? How can we enable technology to help us solve our

challenges and help us become a better City?

You know event yesterday was really

really wonderful and again I think it's super special because it feels like I'm

coming home to celebrate a city that just had its 300th anniversary while

it's really planning for the next hundred years in terms of digital

technology and that I think is very unique. So we had Councilmember at-large

Jason Williams--is really fascinating and very very committed to seeing the city

move forward in this process, the CIO for the city of New Orleans the chief

innovation officer Kim Lu grew, who is just fantastic the city is so lucky to

have her. You know she's very good at kind of doing two things at one time

which is making sure all the trains are running on time really taking care of

just the block and tackle of what it means to run a city and provide the

technology infrastructure and looking forward at exactly the same time and

that balancing act can be a little tricky. And then the director of programs

at Propeller and that's where I hosted the event at Propeller, which is such

fabulous space and for anybody who's not familiar with it it's a co-working space

and the incubator and accelerator for social good companies--so for-profit

nonprofit companies who are dedicated to making

the world a better place and they provide a ton of infrastructure and

support for those companies. And finally Ben Johnson with the New Orleans Chamber

of Commerce. So the commonality to your question around what makes the event

work is making sure that I'm modeling what I think is an ideal practice in

terms of having people from inside the city, elected officials and folks from

from proof who represent the private sector both industry and entrepreneurs and how

they can all work together and have a shared vision with their own unique

perspectives.

What I'm celebrating about New Orleans approach is that they really

started with some behind the scenes work three and a half four years ago and they

started the slow process and research of identifying what are the city's assets

and what are the city's biggest challenges and between those two areas

the gaps is where you build a strategic plan and they're in the middle of that

strategic planning process. And at the same time they're experimenting and

piloting technologies that they can put out there and say okay--let's see how

this works and then we'll adjust as we move forward with the strategic plan. So

again these are not easy things to do but I think it's really important that

you keep focused on action while the broader strategic plan is is being built.

So what have you found in terms of comparing the different cities and their

use of technology, their I guess the relationship to the private --

public sector, the integration of that--what have you found that has been the

really driving force in the cities that really are difference makers?

Yeah that's

an excellent question and most people don't think to ask that question but I

think it's almost the most important one-- so when you start searching the internet

around smart cities you see a lot of headlines around autonomous vehicles

and some of the like cool tech, like drones and augmented reality and very

cool technology that is a really important part of this conversation but

what you don't see because it's not quite as splashy of a headline it's

stuff around the foundation of a smart city. So the foundation of the smart city

is made up of two different things, number one is a really strong Internet

foundation so this is all around mobile broadband in the fiber and then the

second part of it is modernizing the utility grid. So when you get down to it

it's all about connectivity and power and without those two things and a

really robust plan for not just where we are right now but planning for where we

will be in the future where we'll have 20 billion more connected devices on the

planet. I mean we're getting ready to see the intersection of IOT again the

Internet of Things and 5g which is the next evolution of mobile broadband and

when those two things come together and integrate and work together, I think

it'll be about two and a half three years which it's not very much time at

all, the cities who were prepared for that or the cities who will really

really win and I always borrow the phrase from my friend Bob Bennett who's

the chief innovation officer at Kansas City and he says the cities who get it

will be a part of the future in the cities who aren't quite there yet will

be a part of the digital rust belt. So it's really the focus of my fellowship

and the focus of my work right now and why I traveled to cities all over

the place, it's just to help them in this process, because it's not always clear

the pathway is not always clear. So I'm just spending as much time and energy as

I can to share what I've been privileged to learn and to understand and try to

help cities along that path.

You know you mentioned the Internet of Things and the

and also the mobile, as you know Google Fiber had integrated or they

brought the Google Google Fiber to different communities, I think Kansas

City was one?

Yes were one of the early cities

One of the early cities. Yeah I was involved in trying to get New Orleans involved, in yeah--

so, so I'm just wondering, or city's going to, I mean, you talk about one gig

download for video that's where the upload is important, not the download and

so I'm wondering are the so called ISPs or the cable companies --re they

competing sufficiently so that we can get to be even more more "smarter" than we

would like to be?

Well you just hit the nail on the head so a lot of the work

around smart cities it's making sure that internally the regulations and the

policies are ready to help those companies compete because when do you

have as many people or as many companies competing to provide that level of

connectivity or whether you're talking about

oh it's ISPs, cable companies, Google-- however you clarify

Google these days or you're talking about entrepreneurs, I mean, you want to

create as many inroads for private sector innovators as you can to come in

and openly compete and help you build the city of the future, no matter where

that city is , so a lot of the policies and regulations understandably are set

up for the past era. You know a lot of them are really old and antiquated and

they can't keep pace with technology so it's a really critical step for cities

to look internally and say "alright what what policies no longer applied to the

digital age that we're living in and with technology that doesn't even exist

yet--how do we anticipate that and and how do we provide the protections that

we need for our residents and our visitors and make sure that the the city

is on pact and taken care of and at the same time inviting the best and

brightest to come in and create innovation
