A very known manufacturer among knives lovers
is
ESEE...
the american knives maker ESEE.
And the knife I'm showing you now
is called Avispa.
Avispa Framelock more precisely
which translates into...
"avispa" means "hornet" in English.
It comes in a carton box
with a hornet right on it.
The folder
is this one.
The very nice aspect to it
is that one side
of the handle is covered in Nylon
(FRN = Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon)
and the other side of the handle is only made of steel.
Nylon
Steel
Let me say something about this knife...
The blade is made of
AUS 8 stainless steel.
Here, on this side, it says "Avispa"
and there's also a drawing with a hornet.
It also says the steel
it's made of: AUS 8.
It is a pretty good stainless steel,
the hardness of a such steel going up to
57 -58 on HRC scale.
The opening mechanism, as you already seen it,
is the stud on both sides.
It can be opened with one single hand,
with right hand and left one as well.
The locking mechanism (you seen it as well)
is "framelock".
"Framelock" word is also written here, on the box.
This part of the frame
locks the blade in open position.
I have to push aside this clamp
in order to close the blade.
It has a pocket clip as well
that can go in four places:
here, here
and on reverse side, for left handed,
here and here.
And this is the lanyard hole
It looks to be a very robust knife,
I find it very strong and powerful
that feels very well in your hand
due its very good grip.
It weighs 126 grams
The overall length is
21.3 centimeters
so, it's a pretty long folding knife
the blade is 86 millimeters long
meaning 8.6 centimeters.
When it's folded,
this knife is 12.7 centimeters long.
The blade is pretty thick,
it measures 2.7 millimeters.
It is presented as EDC folder
(EDC = Every Day Carry)
or as multifunctional folding knife.
ESEE.
What ESEE stands for?
ES = Escuela de Supervivencia
It is in Spanish and
it means "Survival School" in English.
EE = Escape and Evade.
So, ESEE means
Survival School Escape and Evade.
Survival School Escape and Evade.
It cuts well...
You can find it made of D2 tool steel as well.
I usually chose the stainless steel models.
Even if their hardness is lower
they are easier to maintain.
Since I just shown you this ESEE knife
I want to show you a very close relative of it.
It's about
a folder from Ontario Knife,
made of the same AUS 8 stainless steel,
they have a very similar look,
they have a very similar size,
and I guess they have very similar performances.
This is Ontario Knife RAT-1.
That's its name: RAT-1.
RAT stands for
Randall's Adventure & Training
It's the same thing you can find on ESEE knives.
Randall's Adventure & Training
is what it says on ESEE folder,
this Ontario folding knife is called RAT-1,
RAT meaning Randall's Adventure & Training.
They are two very similar knives.
I'll show you this one on next movie.
A knife is a tool, not a weapon!
