- A lot of people don't want to wake up early in the morning

because then they might feel

like they haven't had enough sleep.

There are three major reasons physiologically

that people don't want to be a morning person.

One is that when you wake up,

you might feel very groggy because you're dehydrated.

And that's the usual time that you think I need a coffee.

But it's actually a really good idea

to have a tall glass of water by your bed

and to drink that immediately, 'cause that

can make you feel much better.

And being hydrated actually increases your memory,

your attention, and your ability to focus.

A lot of people don't want to wake up early in the morning

because then they might feel like they

haven't had enough sleep, and it's really important

for the brain to get seven to nine hours.

So if you're going to start setting your alarm

an hour earlier to become more of a morning person,

then obviously make sure that you do make the effort

to go to bed that little bit earlier.

That will make sure you still get enough sleep.

Related to that is the fact that people think well,

if I don't sleep enough, I won't be productive the next day.

But actually, we know that people who do aerobic exercise

in the morning are 15% more productive that day.

So it really is worth becoming a morning person,

even if it just means that you get that exercise done

before you start your work day.

If you can manage to improve your hydration levels,

get enough sleep, and fit some exercise

into your morning routine, you will find yourself

so much more productive and really seeing the benefits

of being a morning person.

And that's all likely to make you keep wanting to do it.

A Little Ground Coffee.

Caffeine isn't just an energetic ingredient that's key to your mornings.

The recipe is simple: mix 3 tablespoons of ground coffee in a cup of water and mix them together.

When you're in the shower, first wash your hair with shampoo, lightly dry it, and while your hair is still damp, apply the coffee mixture.

The mixture should be applied at room temperature. Leave it on your head for 20 minutes. Then, shampoo again.

This treatment is recommended for people with dark hair and don't dye it lighter because the coffee can darken it a little.

Primrose Oil Mix.

Primrose oil comes from a flower that comes from the same name.

Its richness is based in the large amount of natural fatty acids that come from its seeds. We're talking about substituting too much omega 6 that causes inflammation and hair loss, with omega 3.

This oil can only be used before washing. For a treatment that prevents hair loss, you can mix a tablespoon of jojoba oil, 40 drops of carrot seed essential oil, 10 drops of lavender oil, chamomile, and rosemary.

You'll only need one tablespoon of primrose oil.

Heat all of these ingredients and stored in a glass bowl or bottle.

Finally, apply it with a dropper onto your scalp, a few drops every 3 days.

You can also utilize this oil for its nutritional benefits, including primrose oil in your diet.

Natural Oil Mask.

This recipe is much simpler to prepare since almost all of the ingredients are most likely in your kitchen right now.

All you need is a tablespoon of olive oil, honey, and cognac.

To this, add the yolk from one egg.

It will look sort of like mayonnaise.

After washing your hair and using a conditioner, take this nutritious mixture and massage it on your head with your fingers.

Then, cover your head with a plastic shower cap and wrap it in a warm, damp towel.

The fascinating science behind phantom limbs - Joshua W. Pate - Duration: 5:15.

The vast majority of people who've lost a limb can still feel it—

not as a memory or vague shape, but in complete lifelike detail.

They can flex their phantom fingers

and sometimes even feel the chafe of a watchband

or the throb of an ingrown toenail.

And astonishingly enough,

occasionally even people born without a limb can feel a phantom.

So what causes phantom limb sensations?

The accuracy of these apparitions

suggests that we have a map of the body in our brains.

And the fact that it's possible

for someone who's never had a limb to feel one

implies we are born with at least the beginnings of this map.

But one thing sets the phantoms that appear after amputation

apart from their flesh and blood predecessors:

the vast majority of them are painful.

To fully understand phantom limbs and phantom pain,

we have to consider the entire pathway from limb to brain.

Our limbs are full of sensory neurons responsible for everything

from the textures we feel with our fingertips

to our understanding of where our bodies are in space.

Neural pathways carry this sensory input through the spinal cord

and up to the brain.

Since so much of this path lies outside the limb itself,

most of it remains behind after an amputation.

But the loss of a limb

alters the way signals travel at every step of the pathway.

At the site of an amputation,

severed nerve endings can thicken and become more sensitive,

transmitting distress signals even in response to mild pressure.

Under normal circumstances,

these signals would be curtailed in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord.

For reasons we don't fully understand, after an amputation,

there is a loss of this inhibitory control in the dorsal horn,

and signals can intensify.

Once they pass through the spinal cord, sensory signals reach the brain.

There, the somatosensory cortex processes them.

The entire body is mapped in this cortex.

Sensitive body parts with many nerve endings,

like the lips and hands,

are represented by the largest areas.

The cortical homunculus is a model of the human body

with proportions based on the size of each body part's representation in the cortex,

The amount of cortex devoted to a specific body part can grow or shrink

based on how much sensory input the brain receives from that body part.

For example, representation of the left hand is larger in violinists

than in non-violinists.

The brain also increases cortical representation

when a body part is injured

in order to heighten sensations that alert us to danger.

This increased representation can lead to phantom pain.

The cortical map is also most likely responsible

for the feeling of body parts that are no longer there,

because they still have representation in the brain.

Over time, this representation may shrink and the phantom limb may shrink with it.

But phantom limb sensations don't necessarily disappear on their own.

Treatment for phantom pain usually requires

a combination of physical therapy,

medications for pain management,

prosthetics,

and time.

A technique called mirror box therapy

can be very helpful in developing the range of motion

and reducing pain in the phantom limb.

The patient places the phantom limb into a box behind a mirror

and the intact limb in front of the mirror.

This tricks the brain into seeing the phantom

rather than just feeling it.

Scientists are developing virtual reality treatments

that make the experience of mirror box therapy even more lifelike.

Prosthetics can also create a similar effect—

many patients report pain

primarily when they remove their prosthetics at night.

And phantom limbs may in turn

help patients conceptualize prosthetics as extensions of their bodies

and manipulate them intuitively.

There are still many questions about phantom limbs.

We don't know why some amputees escape the pain

typically associated with these apparitions,

or why some don't have phantoms at all.

And further research into phantom limbs

isn't just applicable to the people who experience them.

A deeper understanding of these apparitions

will give us insight into the work our brains do every day

to build the world as we perceive it.

They're an important reminder

that the realities we experience are, in fact, subjective.

The Untold Truth Of Crash Bandicoot - Duration: 5:00.

Crash Bandicoot made his smash debut shortly after the introduction of the original PlayStation

in the mid '90s.

After only a few releases, however, Crash faded into relative obscurity — an unfortunate

end to a fascinating life.

Here are a few of the lesser-known facts about one of retro gaming's most beloved icons.

"Quickly… into the vortex!"

Naughty Dog, naughty words

As you'd probably expect from a company called Naughty Dog, Crash Bandicoot's creators

weren't exactly above a bit of cheeky humor now and again.

The only thing which really eluded the development team during Crash's creation was a suitable

name for their character.

All they knew is that their "inverted platformer" style — where the camera followed the player

from behind rather than to the side — meant you'd be looking at a whole lot of butt.

So they gave their game the working title of Sonic's Ass.

All things considered, it's probably a good thing they ended up changing that particular

name.

Willy the Wombat

Crash didn't exactly come out of a crate fully formed: Naughty Dog spent a great deal of

time trying to figure out just who he was, right down to what actual animal he was supposed

to be.

Critters like hedgehogs and echidnas were out of the question thanks to Sega, while

Tasmanian devils remained firmly in Looney Tunes territory.

Eventually, the choice came down to bandicoots and wombats.

They opted for the latter and Willy the Wombat was born.

Sadly, Willy's life was to be a short one.

Naughty Dog considered the name to be too dorky to begin with, and the revelation that

the character already existed as part of the cartoon Taz-Mania didn't exactly help things

either.

Willy was turned into a bandicoot and given the name Crash instead.

The rest is history.

The death of Tawna

Longtime Crash fans might remember Tawna, Crash's girlfriend.

By Crash Bandicoot 2, however, she was gone, with no explanation given.

As it turns out, Tawna didn't so much fall victim to Dr. Cortex's evil experiments as

she did real-world corporate meddling.

The original intent was to make Tawna almost cartoonishly sexy, with ludicrously high heels,

long legs and a figure that'd make Jessica Rabbit blush.

But the director of Universal Interactive — Naughty Dog's publisher — didn't

exactly find it amusing.

She refused to allow the studio to include Tawna in Crash Bandicoot, seeing her character

as representative of the objectification of women in video games.

Eventually, Naughty Dog was forced to tone down her look.

Having had their intentions for the character scuppered, the studio decided to ditch the

character for their subsequent games.

According to Crash co-creator Jason Rubin, Universal's marketing director then proclaimed

that "no video game would ever be successful because of a sexy woman ever again."

Which went well.

Stacking crates

Crash Bandicoot's iconic crates are almost as famous as the character himself.

But they weren't actually there in the early days — and only became part of the Crash

mythos after beta testing revealed that, without them, the game pretty much sucked.

To begin with, there just wasn't enough for Crash to do on each level, and the developers'

limited polygon count meant they couldn't include too many enemies or crazy obstacles.

The result?

A shockingly boring game.

Luckily, Naughty Dog came up with an idea: to create the simplest, most polygon-minimal

object they could, and litter the game with them.

The masterstroke — to have those boxes contain TNT, nitro, power-ups and mystery prizes — came

soon after, and Crash Bandicoot was saved.

Crash unloved

Crash's other creator Andy Gavin hasn't worked with Naughty Dog since the early 2000s,

but that doesn't mean he hasn't taken notice of what's happened to his beloved

creation.

In a 2013 interview with Official Playstation Magazine, Gavin laid out his problems with

modern Crash games.

He feels the gameplay is largely unbalanced, while other developers have made the character

so goofy and silly that he risks becoming obnoxious.

Gavin said:

"[Crash is] like the hot high school girlfriend who put on 50 pounds.

I just can't look … People forget that he was once cool.

Our Crash had a certain whimsical edge to him.

Sure, it was goofy — but it wasn't dumb."

Crash Uncharted

It might not seem like the most natural fit in the world, sure — but there's a special

kind of novelty in being able to play the original Crash Bandicoot during Uncharted

4.

The easter egg comes courtesy of Naughty Dog themselves, of course, who developed both

games.

In Chapter 4, Uncharted protagonist Nathan Drake prepares a meal for his wife, Elena.

Then this happens:

That "little TV game thing" turns out to be the original Crash Bandicoot.

You — as Nathan — then play one of the "boulder chase" levels, with the goal being

to score more points than Elena.

The sequence even comes complete with commentary from a clueless Nathan.

If you can earn more than 3500 points, you'll have beaten Elena.

If not, she just laughs at you and helpfully informs you that "Easy Mode" exists — just

like any loving wife would.

Biochemistry with a Sandwich Year - BSc (Hons - University of Kent - Duration: 2:58.

I was drawn to Kent primarily because the lecturers are active

researchers and so it's really nice to be taught at the forefront of

science and and also my sixth form college and did a tour around the

Microscopy Department here and that kind of drew me to Kent and showed me what

there was and I really liked it.

the teaching is really varied at Kent, so for example we spend a bit of time in

the laboratories which is really useful for kind of hands-on learning and you're

supported in that with demonstrators who always there to help you. We have workshops

where we can go and see how specialist equipment is used and

understands how it works. We also have problem solving sessions and so you're

given a problem and then the lecturer helps you work through that and that's

really useful so for me doing a professional year working as an analyst,

problem-solving was something that they really were interested in and

logical thinking and I think the problem-solving workshops that we

have here are really useful tools when you go forward for employment.

After I graduate I'd like to stay within science, whether that be directly or

indirectly, for example going back to UCL and working as an analyst, but I've

actually been accepted for postgraduate study here at Kent, doing a

Master's degree under my final year project supervisor, so that's

really nice because I know that University and lecturers and I know how

it works and I've been really impressed with not only the academic integrity

of the school but also just the people and how friendly and welcoming it

has been. You need to remember to have a

good work-life balance, so sometimes it's good to go out and socialize and take a

break from your work but also it's really important to focus sometimes and

make sure that you get the best out of your degree because at the end of the

day it's your time is your money and you do really need to put the effort in, and

just enjoy it, make the most of the lecturers they're there to help you. There's

so much support available, we try and make the most of it and so for

instance the employability service - get in touch with peer mentors or just

generally talk with your academic adviser about things. It's a really

good way to get the most out of your degree.

Brighter Image Lab Must Watch Now! My Honest Review - Duration: 4:04.

hi everyone thought I would take a quick moment and do a youtube video for a review

on a website that I found called pressonveneers.com I was having

problems with my bridge work and I went to the dentist and I was given two

alternatives number one is to have permanent implants in place of the

bridge the bridge is old and it no longer works for me

and so the permanent implants were a price tag of six thousand dollars or I

could have a partial plate made and the partial plate would connect to

the back teeth and the steel would run through the back of my good teeth and cause

my good teeth to wear out in time so I went home to think about it which

plan I would I would pick and I went online to see if there was anything else

and that's when I came across pressonveneers.com and the price tag was like

$644 maybe total for everything for the veneers and

I thought wow that's not only a big price difference but they looked really

beautiful online so I thought I would look for some reviews and find out if

anybody had any problems with them well I couldn't find anything so I called

customer service and talked to them before I ordered because I was really

apprehensive about ordering and they assured me that as a customer they would

work with me until I was absolutely satisfied with these veneers so I

ordered them what I got in the mail first was like a mold that you put in

your mouth and you mold teeth and you send that in to them and that's how they

make your teeth and a couple weeks later I got my first set of veneers back and I

wasn't pleased with them I didn't like them I didn't like the way they fit so I

thought okay here we go now we're going to put customer service to the test and

I call customer service to tell them that I was displeased with them they didn't fit

properly and they said no problem at all they were wonderful told me to mail them

back with the new impression and I wrote them a little email telling them what

exactly was wrong with them and what I want to change and they listened to me

to whatever I said and they did exactly my instructions so I got the new veneers

back the other day here's what they come in a box like this

they are absolutely great here's what they look like when you get them that's

how they look now you can see what the old dental work I've had root canals and

fillings over time you know they change color

and your teeth you know my smile is not as bright as I'd like it to be and

with the dental work here not fitting properly the bridge like I said I always

have to kind of hide my smile so now I'm going to show you the difference I won't

show you what it looks like with the bridge removed but I will show you what

it looks like with this in if you just give me a minute here now there are my new

press-on veneers I absolutely love them I forget that they're in I eat with them

I can drink with them I find them very comfortable I don't talk any different

with them in I'll even do a close-up and now I'm not afraid to smile at all I

will be ordering the bottom set now only to match the color of the top set
