ABCs of Jackson Hole: Triangle X - Duration: 2:14.
John S. Turner had been traveling to the valley for both hunting and camping trips.
He and his wife, Maytie, found a favorite campsite situated above the Jump homestead.
In 1926 when Jump was ill in the hospital, Turner offered him twice the value of his
land and it was sold.
The family had initially planned to farm the land for potatoes but found the growing season
too short and the winters too harsh.
They then turned to the more lucrative business of dude ranching, and turned their cultivated
acreage to raising cattle and hay.
By 1927 the family had expanded to 20 dudes and purchased the nearby Jack Fee homestead
for a total of 320 acres.
They continued to cultivate their land to raise hay for the horses.
The partially finished Fee homestead cabin was moved to the Triangle X as the first ten
log courses on the barn.
The barn housed the dairy cows that provided the ranch and several nearby ranches with
fresh dairy products.
In 1929 the Turners were one of few in the valley who knew the purpose behind the Snake
River Land Company's motive in purchasing several thousand acres of land and homesteads.
John D. Rockefeller, Jr. was the secret financial backer with a plan to donate the lands to
the federal government for conservation.
The Turner family sold their land to the Company in exchange for a lease to continue dude ranching
operations.
These types of deals in the valley were rare, as Rockefeller had most of the homesteads
and ranches that he purchased torn down.
Since the ranch was on the far eastern border of the valley, not blocking scenic views of
the Tetons, the Turners' buildings remained.
The Turners would continue to operate the Triangle X on the Rockefeller lease until
1950, when the property transferred to Grand Teton National Park ownership.
In 1953, Grand Teton extended a concession license to John C. Turner and his wife Louise,
and the Triangle X became the only dude ranch in the valley to operate on National Park
land.
Today, a third and fourth generations of Turners work and run the ranch.

The UFC's most important — and likely most vicious — fight in recent memory will take place in Las Vegas this Sunday (AEST), as Conor McGregor returns to the octagon for the first time in two years
The fervour around the event, as well as the controversy, drama and, importantly, ticket and pay-per-view TV sales, have only served to underline the Irishman's position as the most marketable face in the sport
Even if that pulling power comes with baggage, and a reputation for vulgarism during his fight career he continues to enthusiastically play up
The main event at UFC 229 between Khabib Nurmagomedov, the unbeaten current lightweight champion, and former two-time UFC champion McGregor is full of contrast, intrigue and two things central to the promotion of a marquee fight: hype and animosity
There's been so much bad blood ahead of UFC 229, the most important person at the arena in Las Vegas will likely be referee Herb Dean
McGregor hasn't fought in the UFC since 2016 and his return couldn't come soon enough for the sport
His marketability is almost unrivalled in the fight game — something further illustrated by his remarkable bout last year against undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather
For some, a circus.But also a gold-plated box office success — and an obscenely profitable exercise for both men
McGregor polarises like few others, making the drama that he brings bearable — arguably welcome — for promoters
Whether they tune in to watch him fall or rise again, millions of viewers will be glued to their screens for the event
The fight this Sunday has long been sold out and UFC president Dana White has been spruiking the strength of pay-per-view sales, which are expected to break the UFC record
It shapes up as a huge potential windfall for the UFC and is a marquee match-up fans have been screaming for
McGregor has been more than willing to frame the contest as a genuine grudge match

The fight itself is expected to be nothing short of brutal; McGregor and Nurmagomedov genuinely do not like each other
Nurmagomedov has spoken about how he plans to make McGregor suffer and suggested he'd be reluctant to take an early opportunity to win the fight, instead preferring to inflict sustained aggression and punishment
McGregor, too, has been typically forthright."I am going to truly, truly love putting a bad, bad beating on this little glass-jawed rat
" When asked what he'll do to Nurmagomedov in the octagon, McGregor chillingly said: "Stomp on his head as he's unconscious
" The five-round main event on Sunday will be an exercise in contrast — an outspoken Irishman who delivers expletive-laden rants and takes every opportunity in front of cameras to promote his newly-launched whiskey brand, against a usually reserved and softly spoken Russian who doesn't drink alcohol, much less sell it
The differences continue all the way through to the strengths of each fighter: Nurmagomedov is famous for his wrestling and grappling; McGregor is known for his striking
"Sixth of October I'm going to maul you.You know this," Nurmagomedov lashed back at one of McGregor's rants
"This is not only for [a] title fight or my defence of my title, it's a little bit personal, it's a little bit more personal than just a fight
Of course I'm emotional too, but I have to control this."[At the] same time this is a money fight, the same time this is a very interesting fight, the same time it's a very personal fight and that's why I think it's going to break the pay-per-view record in UFC history

LAS VEGAS — The mental warfare between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor remained at a fever pitch and showed no signs of slowing down at the final press conference heading into Saturday's UFC 229
Instead of exchanging barbs as they did in New York, however, the two fighters didn't even cross paths at Thursday's media event
Nurmagomedov, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, appeared on stage on time and was ready to start the press conference without McGregor
"I don't need to wait for anybody," Nurmagomedov said as a rowdy pro-McGregor crowd vehemently booed him
"I have a schedule.I have to make weight and I have to worry about myself.Why should I wait for him? If somebody is late, this is not my problem
" Visibly annoyed, Nurmagomedov kept his answers relatively short but made it clear that McGregor's antics have gotten under his skin
He said, however, that he plans to channel that energy into a "mauling" Saturday night
"A little bit," Nurmagomedov said when asked whether he was still upset over the April incident in Brooklyn when McGregor, trying to confront Nurmagomedov prior to UFC 223, smashed windows on a bus carrying other fighters
"If I say that I am not, that would not be true.I'm a little emotional but my job when I get in the cage is to control my emotions
I have to stay relaxed but keep going and maul this guy." "The Eagle" then praised the fans for their support of McGregor and bid everyone farewell
Nurmagomedov spent just a shade under 15 minutes fielding questions from the media before departing
"All right, this is awkward," UFC president Dana White said with nobody on either side of him at one of the biggest press conferences in UFC history
McGregor eventually arrived, 30 minutes late, and was given a hero's welcome when he appeared
He was wearing a driver's cap and tank top and carrying a bottle of his Proper Whiskey
"He knew what (Nurmagomedov) signed up for," McGregor said about his tardiness."The traffic was a little heavy so there must be a McGregor fight going on
He's better off running, anyway." In true McGregor fashion, he began tearing down his opponent and predicting how the fight would end as fans showered him with cheers
The former featherweight and lightweight champion has said that he will take back what is rightfully his at UFC 229 and then look for more lucrative financial opportunities moving forward
There was concern that McGregor wouldn't return to the UFC after raking in just under $100 million last August against Floyd Mayweather, but the Irishman said Thursday that he's back for the fans and the love of the game
The projected $50 million he stands to make isn't too shabby, either."You know what's better than money? More f—ing money," McGregor said
He saved an almighty shot for his opponent's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, with a ridiculous claim after previously taking aim at him in their first press conference
"You should never take information from an informant.You should keep distance from the informant at all times, and that's putting it for the media
