I'm just hanging out to meet up with her going to scatter bush. It is a restaurant here

I don't know if it's everywhere but it's I believe it's Italian her and I we usually get this cheese

Dish and then we get pasta in the desert

I don't know how much I can eat because these days I can only eat like this much

So we'll see how I do if anything I can always bring home the pasta and have it for tomorrow for lunch

So D's in the house right now

and he is just taking off the trims around the doors and the

baseboards along the floors just because we have to put down hardwood floors and you can't do that if you have

Baseboards down already. I mean you probably know you can so

You have to remove those and implants them you either put back on the old ones or you put on the new ones

But we are going to put on some new ones because the ones that we have there are very very dated

My dad and I did a lot of damage in Home Depot. I was able to find all the light fixtures

And my dad is mudding the Wallace, we're not going to put

Tile around the walls again. We're just gonna put put it right here. So

Once this dries you can send it and paint it

you have to wait for the reveal so my dad went ahead and

put some more mud here and he also did this feeling oh

He did a lot so he did all of this today. So he went all around the room and

So when this dries once again, you have to sand and paint so this room will be painted in a really nice color

You guys will see that soon here is the vanity. It's not installed yet

We still need to get a toilet, here's the tiles friend here

It's a very soft marble if I turn the light you can see it a little bit better. I did get some light fixtures

For here, I'll have to show them to you guys. They're downstairs. So I got I got a nice light fixture for here

All of this used to be pink tile we're not going to do tile again, we're just going to do tile right here

So, yeah, so that's the powder room in the master moving over to the studio. So

The studio has been painted but it's just one coat it definitely needs another one the floors in here are done

My dad went ahead and did some mudding

If you turn this way this closet still needs some flooring I think my mom brought home a box from work

Well, not from work after work. She went to the her wood place and got

Decided to get something that's a little bit closer to the ceiling because these pretty tall and he hits his head on the current one

From Home Depot. It's actually very similar to the one that's in a dining room. But this is just a smaller version

So that's pretty much what it looks like. It's very very pretty all of them are very pretty

This one down here is for the main bathroom

So we got two of those and then for our bedroom

I picked up this one I decided to get one that was kind of flat

Just so that way. He doesn't hit his head on it's because again, he's really tall

There are two types of companies: those who sell a product to a customer and those where

the customer, by itself, is the product.

TINDER belongs to this second group.

Why would you choose Tinder before any other dating app?

Simple!

Because it is full of users!

This means that the real product here is not a website or a service.

My dear viewer, in Tinder, the product is you.

And here is where the big question comes in: How would you start a Dating app?

I mean, imagine you and your friends decide to start a company like Tinder.

The first thing you need is a lot of boys and girls using it, right?

But those boys and girls will not use it if they don't see many other boys and girls

using it already…

Do you see where I come from?

This is why, the fact that Tinder has over 200 million users is one of the most surprising

successes in business history.

How did they get started?

What did they do better than their competitors?

Today, we are going to answer this question.

And… in order to do this, we are going to ask to one of the biggest experts on the industry:

MARK BROOKS is the President of IDEA, a group that represents the biggest dating apps on

the planet.

He is been more than 25 years on the online love industry.

And he is the brain behind many of the dating sites you know.

Hello Simon and hello to all the VisualPolitik subscribers.

As you said, the key to be successful on a dating site is, as we call it, an activity

critical mass.

This means, having enough active users so, on average, 3 out of 5 messages have an answer.

How do you get here?

This is where economics, strategy and math comes into play.

And you might wonder…

Why are we talking about this in VisualPolitik?

What does Tinder have to do with all the things we usually talk about on this channel?

Well… a lot.

Listen up: in this momento, 1 our of 5 heterosexual copules in America got to know each other

through a dating site.

In the case of the same sex couples, this is more than 70%.

In other words… daring online has changed our societies.

And this… is also politics.

Nonetheless, despite what it looks, the online dating industry is still a baby.

In total, we move around 5 billion dollars every year in all around the world.

For example, the underwear industry is 10 times bigger.

And has bigger profit margins.

Yep, you heard this right.

We are talking about an industry where making a profit is seldom easy.

Besides, it is a hyper concentrated industry.

Basically, most of the dating sites, including Tinder, belong to the very same group: MATCH.COM

GROUP.

This is a NASDAQ listed company that has smashed most of the competitors.

But still, the big question is…

How did the Tinder creators managed to create such a succesful app?

What kind of lessons can we learn from Tinder that could be applied to other kind of businesses?

Today, we are going to answer to all of this questions… but before we do, let's take

a look back at history.

THE LOVE BEHEMOTH

I know, I know, it will not come as a surprise if I tell you that dating sites are as old

as Internet itself.

For a better understanding, in the year 1991, Tim Berners-Lee created the first website

in history.

Well…

3 years later, the first dating site, WEB PERSONALS, was launched.

And, as you can imagine, we are not talking just about finding your significant other…

On the same time, other sites like ADULT FRIEND FINDER were created too…

Nonetheless, most of this websites were pretty rudimentary.

Back then, nobody talked about user's experience or complex algorithms.

Webpersonals was just an online version of the good old classified ads that you had on

the newspapers.

You couldn't even send messages to the contacts.

And, over all, the biggest problem was… they almost had no users!

In most of the cases, you would create a profile and find nobody to date.

But all of this changed with the advent of MATCH.COM

MATCH.COM was the real game changer.

But make no mistake… they didn't have an specially good algorithm or a better user

experience.

In fact, their asset was just one word: MONEY.

Match.com started out as classified ads for newspapers.

But soon hey realized the future was online.

During their launch, they tried different formulas.

But the turning point came in the year 1999.

That was the year when IAC, a multinational, bought Match.com by 50 million USD.

And believe me, that was enough money to do great things.

Out of a sudden, this company could invest heavily in advertising.

And this advertising budget let them get to that critical mass sooner than anybody.

But not only that!

Match.com was the first one in importing the concept of the 'white brand' to the dating

world.

What made Match.com so unique?

They had technology to improve online dating.

What did they need?

More users.

Who had more users back then?

Webs la MSN…

Do you remember the old Microsoft Messenger?

Well, back then, this was the most used messaging software on the planet.

They were happy to offer a brand new dating service to their users.

And this is why MSN personals was nothing but the match.com engines… with another

logotype.

With this aggressive strategy, Match.com closed similar deals with other internet juggernauts

like Yahoo!

And this is how, in so little time, they smashed the competitors.

In fact, today, this company is so big it is listed in the NASDAQ index.

And they represent one fifth of the whole industry revenue.

And I know what you are thinking now… who could compete with such a love behemoth?

At the end of the day, having so much money for advertising and that much power to close

the best business deals…

Who can shadow them?

Well… believe me, the battle had just started.

Despite Match.com being such a big company, their service was pretty lame.

It is true… they had lots of users but…

Almost nobody found an actual match!

This explained why the retention rates where so low!

In fact, people signed up into match.com and… they left after a short while.

This left a big vacuum for a better competitor with a better strategy.

And the winning strategy was…

UNDER PROMISE AND OVER DELIVER

Imagine we start a business to make money.

The logical thing is to get paid for the service, right?

Well… it doesn't have to be that way.

The founders of PLENTY OF FISH are the proof of this.

In the year 2003, this website was the first one in offering their services completely

free.

So how did they make money?

The answer is obvious…

Advertising!

Many of you will not be surprised with this.

But back in the time, this was a revolutionary idea.

Being based on ads, Plenty of Fish was heavily incentivised to make sure the users would

spend a lot of time on the site.

The longer they stood, the more ads they would see.

But this is not the end of the story!

The strategy of Pleny of Fish could not be more counter intuitive.

So here is a question.

Let's say that you are starting your own dating site….

What kind of Pictures would you put on the front page?

Would you pick ugly or beautiful people?

Would you use an attractive, elegant webdesign… or a very simple and sketchy one?

I guess you would go for beautiful people and smart design, right?

Well…

Plenty of Fish did exactly the opposite.

Their motto was 'happy those with no expectations because they will never be dissapointed'.

In other words… 'under promise and over deliver'.

In order to avoid the website to take long times of downloading, Plenty of Fish wanted

to use low res Pictures.

This meant a very unattractive design.

They made sure to their users that they wouldn't find top models but normal people.

REAL people.

Even their ads made clear that they didn't want to lie to anybody.

This model was so disruptive that they soon found imitators.

Other websites like Badoo followed their footsteps.

And… guess what happened when Plenty of Fish became that successful!

Well…

Match.com, the love behemoth, does not like competitors.

So they made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

Basically, they didn't buy them for what the company worth but by the amount of money

Match.com was losing by having them as competitors.

And… that was a lot of money.

Then again, many of you might believe that, with such a solid business model, and being

part of Match.com, nobody could be a match for Plenty of Fish, right?

Well… my dear friends here at VisualPolitik, again, you are wrong.

TINDERING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX

Yes, it is true…

Plenty of Fish seemed like the perfect website: millions of users, simple design and happy

customers.

But, there was a problem!

It didn't work on mobile phones!

And, if this was not enough… nobody was proud of using Plenty of Fish.

Oh yes, you, the millenials watching this video: I know this will surprise you.

But, until recently, this online dating thing was a pretty shameful hobby… and the last

thing you would confess your friends.

And this is when the Tinder founders came in, ready to change the rules of the game

fore ver.

Tinder was the first dating app design for mobile first.

No computers or laptops: just cell phones.

And how do you think they got that critical mass of users?

Well… you might think that, being an internet app, they used online ads to promote themselves,

right?

So… the opposite was true.

The strategy of Tinder was 100% offline.

Instead of ads or big marketing campaigns, the Tinder founders organized parties at the

American Universities: more exactly, on the coolest Fraternities and Sororities.

If you wanted to attend to the most glamorous parties, you had to download the app to your

phone.

And this was not sold as a dating app.

In fact… it was a game!

In fact, the goal of the Tinder founders was not to sell true love or significant others.

The motto was 'we are playing Tinder'.

Let's play and see who is the most popular in the party!

Or to put it on their own terms… let's see who gets the biggest share of likes.

The idea of competing for popularity was nothing new.

Other websites like HOT OR NOT offered people to upload their pictures so the other users

could rank them from 0 to 10.

But Tinder made everything simpler.

It was not about ranking but instead, it was a matter or YES or NOT.

Or, to put it on their own terms: SWIPE RIGHT or SWIPE LEFT.

Part of Tinder success can be explained with the theories of the so-called, behavioural

economist.

Authors like Daniel Kahneman, talk about two kinds of behaviour.

"Some of the basic innate operations, functions that we have, such as perceiving things, having

emotional reactions to things… all of this is System 1: we don't choose to do it, it

just happens to us"

The so-called SYSTEM 1, or rational thinking, and the so-called, SYSTEM 2 or intuitive decision

making.

By limiting the range or choices, we can easily approach people's emotions easier.

In other words, mobile first design, gamification and a perfect expansion strategy made Tinder

the most loved app in all the American Universities.

Instead of hiding it, people told everybody they were using it.

At the end of the day… it was not dating!

It was just a game!

We are playing Tinder… aren't we?

And… guess what happened after Tinder achieved so much success…

Exactly!

Again, Match.com, the love behemoth, bought them.

In other words…

most of the dating apps today are part of the very same Group.

And this is why… we can still say the story doesn't end here.

After 25 years, the dating app industry is still on their baby steps.

And part of this is because is one of the few business where success is punished instead

of rewarded.

Think about it…

What would be the best app for dating?

Of course!

The one that lets you find your significant other, right?

Nonetheless… if we can find a couple on Tinder… the first thing we will do is to

leave the site.

This way, the company stops making money with us.

In other words, the incentive for a dating app is that we never get to find the true

love!

In economic terms, this means the dating app market is far from being a mature market.

And this means there is still a lot of space for new proposals.

For example, one of the Tinder creators left the company after a sexual harassment lawsuit.

She created her own app, called BUMBLE.

This app is completely innovative because here, women are the one who must send the

first message.

And, of course, there is also Facebook.

Yes, you heard me right.

Facebook has already announced they will launch their own dating site.

They have the information about the users and the money to make a 180 degree shift to

an industry that, despite having millions of users, it makes less than 5 billions a

year.

So now this is your turn…

Russia-Israel relations deteriorated sharply after the 17 September downing of a Russian IL-20 spy plane, which saw 15 Russian crewmen killed by Syrian air defences during an Israeli strike

Mr Netanyahu told his cabinet on Sunday that he had spoken with Mr Putin and would soon meet him to discuss military coordination around Syria, a battlefield that has drawn the two countries into at-times fraught opposing stances

Russia is widely credited with turning the war around for Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian president, whose victory now is all but assured

But in propping up Assad, Russia has heralded the Syrian expansion of Iran and the Shia paramilitary group Hizbollah, on which Assad has relied heavily

For Israel, the growing footprint of Shia militancy in Syria, whether Lebanese, Iranian or foreign conscript, is a red line

Mr Netanyahu has sworn to prevent Iran from deepening its military presence in Syria and using the country as a bridge to transfer weapons to Hizbollah in Lebanon

He has made good on the threat: last month, Israeli officials claimed the country had launched more than 200 airstrikes on Iranian military targets inside Syria since 2017

It is not known how the S-300 will impact such tactics. For Mr Netanyahu, Sunday's announcement was a bit of good news on an otherwise dark day

His wife, Sara Netanyahu, appeared in Jerusalem Magistrate Court on fraud charges, accused of misusing $100,000 (£76,000) in state funds to order high-end take-away meals despite employing a private chef

Mr Netanyahu is implicated in the charges, with investigators alleging he told staff to cover up the fact that the couple had hired a cook, so as to avoid double-dipping on the state allowance for meals

The case dates back to 2010, and has long been a thorn in the Netanyahus' side, threatening to lift the lid on the couple's private life

The next hearing is scheduled for 13 November.

Now this person beat this system usually when there's no clean spoons I just accept defeat

But this person like I said beat the system because they just put tape over the fork and then use it as a spoon

They deserve a raise this person broke their car mirror

But you still need to see what's behind you because what if you need to reverse well

They decided to just tape their phone in place and then use your phone as a mirror now, don't get me wrong

It's smart, but it's not genius

And the reason it's not genius is because they're using that weak AF tape that we know is not gonna stick like that tape

It's gonna slowly peel off and then they're gonna have a broken mirror and a broken phone

It's gonna be a very bad day for them

Creating a Christmas Scene Card! - Duration: 10:51.

hi its Therese fromLostinpaper and today we're going to be creating a scene

using lots of fun products and starting with a penny black set called autumn

entrance and as soon as I saw this door image I just knew that I had to create a

Christmas card with it I know it's a autumn set but images like this you can

use for so much for so many different seasons or ideas alright so what I'm

doing here is just working out where the image behind my door is going to sit so

this is actually my top fold card and I've got it opened up and I've just had

the door image sitting on my Misti so I know where it's going to be exactly this

gray cardstock is a really pretty smooth cardstock from Ellen Hutson and its

color is called or oyster gray and I've got this panel cut to the same size as

my card front now this door had to be red and it has to be bright red so I'm

adding lots of color and I chose my prismacolors and the reason I left my

stamping in the Misti is because I do on a restamp the image because

sometimes the Prismacolors can leave what's called a bloom and what that

means is that they can cover over your initial lines that you've stamped so

they don't look as sharp and as crisp so by restamping the image after you've

colored you can get that crispness back it's great so I did add lots of color to

this door it's a lot of color but I'm not pressing hard on the pencil I'm

actually pressing quite lightly because you'll find if you press very hard

you'll fill the tooth as a paper and you'll have trouble adding more color so

by pressing lightly I can add lots of color but still not fill the tooth of

the paper so I am taking my time here the thing that really brings this to

life is the gamsol. more often than not I don't actually use gamsol on

colored cardstock but it worked really well on this the oyster gray I did test

it off to the side on a scrap piece of paper just to make sure because some

colored cardstocks you can find that they will discolor with the gamsol and

you don't want to ruin all the hard work but you've done so I do suggest that you

test your colors off on a piece of card stock that's the same as the one that

you're working on and then you're going to know exactly

what it looks like so how shiny and red is this door I just

love it! the gamsol it worked a miracle here. all right so I

have sped this up a little bit this is already a long video there's it some if

not looks like a really clean and simple card there's lots of different sort of

processes to making this whole card I'll have everything listed at my blog

including all of the colors that I've used today so if you want to sort of see

exactly what colors I use if you want to recreate this then just head through the

link below to my blog and you'll see it there so this step I wanted to make it

look like it was almost 3d on the card or just sitting on the paper so when I

add a shadow at the bottom you do need to go a little bit higher than the

actual image don't just color the very base of the image to make it look like

it's stepped back haha pardon the pun color a little bit up from the bottom of

the image and that'll give it that bit of a 3d look and the white and the gray

looked awesome too and I forgot to color the window in so I had like a comedy of

errors on this card today and took me forever but yes so this is

what I was saying I do restamp and this time I've used the onyx black my initial

stamp was done with the tuxedo black so I wasn't too worried about

and smudging inks or waiting for inks to dry although the onyx is a very fast

drying pigment black it's certainly compatible with pencils I like it as

that real bold black for an outline except I moved my stamp so only the

bottom of the stamp moved and I think it must have happened when I first stamped

the image out not on the restamp so I came in with a copic multiliner

otherwise it look like you're tipsy coming home and it was all double vision

so I just filled in this the double lines at the copic multiliner and that

seemed to work I hope I saved it you let me know what you think

I did add some brickwork to the walls I've got some unicorn hero arts ink and Julie

Ebersole is right this is amazing this ink for a white ink it just looks

gorgeous on that gray cardstock and I'm back to the inside of the card now and

the marks here just let me know exactly where to put my dog image because I know

that when I stamped my front panel with the door it's the same position that I

stamped had this the stamp held on the inside of the card so I know my puppy

dog image, which is from Christmas fun, but he's going to be sitting exactly

behind the door when I open it later oh I forgot to mention that the brickwork

was actually Essentials by Ellen set called abstract paint strokes and that's

a really versatile sort of fun set to have I like those sort of solid stamp

images that you use for so many different things so to colour the dog I'm

using Prismacolors again because they can't be seen through the back of your

card stock like Copics this is the hundred and ten pound Neenah so it's

probably not likely to really be seen even if I'd had have used Copics but I

was going with pencils today anyway so I'd like to add all my

all my colors but a lot of my color first before I come in with my gamsol

and then I will come back in and add some extra shading after because you can

always add on on top of it again and keep working the colors and getting the

shading just right love that he is tangled up in the baubles Oh they are not baubles

they're Christmas lights it's early in the day here

I haven't engaged my brain yet and I did the same thing with this image because I

had left it within the misti I did come back in with the Onyx black and

restamp it as well that looks like a UK plug there... right my final image that I'm

going to use I've got a stack of sets in this card it's took me ages but I had

lots of fun this is one of the hedgehogs are obviously a penny black image if you

you know penny black, you know this is one of their classic critters that is in a lot

of their stamp sets and so cute so this Hedgehog is from a new Christmas

set called Holly Jolly critters and I stamped it on the oyster gray cardstock

I could have had added on some white cardstock but I'm going to be

sitting this on the front of the card so I didn't want the white border because

I'm going to fussy cut this image out and I didn't want I would have looked

lovely I'm sure when I'm fine but I just thought it'd be better to have the

oyster card stock and then it's not going to stand out so much on the front

of the card when I fussy cut it right so now I've gone back to my card this is

going to add the panel to the front now I'm making sure that I'm adding enough

adhesive beneath the door because I want I want to actually make this slightly

interactive card it's not full-on interactive is there such a thing as a

slightly interactive card well, there is now! I initially came in with my craft

knife my metal ruler to try and sort of cut

the door out and that didn't work out so I'm not really good with knives I'm not

trusted with them did you notice I was actually holding the top of the knife

the bit that helps it click back in these knives are great by the way

they're like a surgical blade so they're really sharp so you do have to be very

careful with them I actually found it was easier just to

eyeball it and cut it and the best way to cut card stock is slowly don't press

too hard just keep going over the same spot until it's through and you can feel

when it's through and you can actually see when it's through both layers if you

keep flipping it over and looking which is what I did I also added a couple of

score lines on either side because it is the card stock two pieces of card stock

on each other and there's my dog See you can actually see him, but just, I think that's

why it's 'slightly' and all that's left to do is pop up my little Hedgehog oh I did

add a sentiment this is a really little sentiment thought it'd work perfectly

and I popped it up on on the actual wreath that the hedgehogs holding it's

from the mountain holiday stamp set from Ellen Hutson as well I'll just use some

glue dots to do that we've I added some Nuvo berries this is the red berry

gloss accents and I love with this stuff you can make these berries or you know

dots enamel dots as big or as small as you want just make sure you let them dry

A Song of Ice and Fire: Unseen Westeros - Duration: 11:11.

In January of 2019, over 80 new and unseen illustrations from the World of A Song of

Ice and Fire will be on display in Berlin Germany, for a four day exhibit, free to the

public.

These images were created by 40 men and women from around the world, who worked as concept

artists for the Game of Thrones tv show, and the exhibit was organized with the full blessing

and support of George RR Martin.

Those in attendance will also have access to an audio guide, exploring the background

of the regions on display, with unique music composed for each room.

As a preview to the event, we can explore some of the history behind the beautiful locations

revealed in the trailer.

During the reign of King Harwyn Hardhand, the Ironborn went to war with the Kingdom

of the Storm and took possession of the riverlands, to form the Kingdom of Isles and Rivers.

When the King's son Halleck came into power, he chose a modest tower in Fairmarket for

his seat, however when his own son came into power, a new project was undertaken.

Harren the Black, as he was known, sought to build a monument to himself, in the form

of a colossal fortress with walls so tall and thick no army could ever hope to breach

them.

In the Construction of Harrenhal by Sven Sauer & Greig Howitt, we see the five mighty towers

and colossal walls off in the distance, with a long line of people, perhaps workers, approaching.

Desiring the highest hall and tallest towers in all Westeros, King Harren's slaves and

servants laboured for forty years in terrible conditions, with thousands dying before its

completion.

Built along the northern coast of the godseye, it's construction drained the resources

of both the Iron Islands and the Riverlands, and led the King to plunder neigboring kingdoms

for stone, lumber, gold, and laborers.

And yet despite all of his efforts, Harren's dream was never truly realized, as the very

day of the Harrenhal's completion, Aegon the Conqueror of House Targaryen landed an

army in Westeros which included 3 large fire breathing dragons.

When their fiersome armies arrived at the gates of Harrenhal, they were joined by an

alliance of rebel Lords from the Riverlands, who had turned their backs on King Harren,

despising him for all the years of suffering he inflicted upon their lands.

Despite being betrayed and surrounded by enemies, Harren refused to surrender, retreating into

his fortress where he and his sons were burned alive in a torrent of dragonfire.

Due to the horrors commited in its construction and the fate King Harren the Black, many believed

Harrenhal was cursed, and as if to lend further credence to this belief, every family who

ruled the fortress thereafter, eventually presided over the demise of their House, seeing

the hold given to six different families throughout the reign of the Targaryen Kings.

In the Great Tourney at Harrenhal by Sven Sauer, we see a party of knights on their

way to the great fortress in 281 AC, where House Whent was host to an event of enormous

significance for all of Westeros, in which the seeds of civil war were planted.

Though there were a great many interesting occurrences throughout the festivities, the

tournament was remembered primarily for the actions of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, son of

the Mad King Aerys II, who competed and emerged as Champion, earning the right to crown a

woman of his choice as Queen of Love and Beauty.

Yet much to the surprise of those in attendance, he passed over his own wife Elia Martell,

to give the crown of blue roses to lady Lyanna Stark, the betrothed of Lord Robert Baratheon

of the Stormlands.

This was later described as the moment when all the smiles died, as Rhaegar had in one

action insulted the Houses Martell, Stark and Baratheon.

A year later, Rhaegar was accused of kidnapping Lyanna Stark, and when her brother, the heir

to Winterfell rode to King's Landing seeking vengeance, he and his father were executed

by the Mad King, leading the Starks as well as their allies in House Baratheon and Arryn

to raise their banners in Rebellion.

Built along the rivers of the mountains of the moon, Strongsong by Rene Aigner, depicts

the seat of House Belmore, one of the most powerful families of the Vale.

The Belmore's of Strongsong were sworn bannermen to the Arryns of the Eyrie, who first rose

to power during the Andal invasion of Westeros, thousands of years before the Targaryens took

power.

Though the First Men kingdoms of the area attempted to unite against the invaders, the

Andals under Ser Artys Arryn were eventually victorious, founding the Kingdom of Mountain

and Vale.

Though most of the First Men then surrender and bent the knee to their new king, some

few refused to submit and retreated into the mountains, forming clans who survived by raiding

nearby villages and vulnerable travellers, though their poor weapons and ragged armor

made them less of a threat to the Lord of a mighty fortress like Strongsong.

Built in a land once ruled over by three petty kings, The Golden Tooth by Manuel Grad reveals

the seat of House Lefford, who served as vassals to the Lannisters after they conquered the

Westerlands to form the Kingdom of the Rock.

House Lefford itself traces their lineage back to the marriage of an Andal Warlord to

a Lady of the First Men and under the rule of House Lannisters were charged with the

defense of this vital strategic position, as most armies had to pass by the Golden Tooth

to attempt invasion from the east.

The area also held significance for their gold mines, which helped make the Lannisters

one of the richest families in all of Westeros.

Originally founded as a military colony by the Dragonlord of the Valyrian Freehold,

Tyrosh by Claudio Pilia, depicts the rich and prosperous city which developed upon an

island in the stepstones, becoming a popular center for commerce in the area.

The merchants of Tyrosh grew rich from the slave trade, and continued to thrive even

after the Doom of Valyria, using their wealth to hire mercenaries to fight their wars.

In their time as an independent city state, Tyrosh was involved a great number of conflicts,

such as the unending wars against Lys and Myr for the Disputed lands and their repeated

attempts to conquer the stepstones.

They also defeated an invasion by Volantis, and became a refuge for House Blackfyre of

Westeros, a family determined to their Targaryen kin and claim the Iron Throne of the Seven

Kingdoms.

Once known as a home to a race of diminuative forest dwellers, the Kingdom of Ifequevron

by Chris Sanchez reveals a hauntingly beautiful scene in the ruins of a once thriving settlement.

Named Ifequevron by the Dothraki, meaning those who walk in the woods, the inhabitant

of this northern forest were said to be shy, and gentle folk who wielded powerful magic

may have been kin to the Children of the Forest who once populated Westeros.

Yet while nearby conquerors like the Dothraki respected the Wood Walkers and left them in

peace, the Ibbenese from an island to the North had no such restraint, and eventually

swept through the territory, leaving behind only one ruined settlement, thereafter known

as Vaes Leisi, meaning city of ghosts.

In time, the Ibbenese lost much of what they'd won in their wars with the horselords of the

south, however the wood walkers largely vanished, leaving behind carved trees, haunted grottoes,

and strange silences in their absence.

When the Westerosi adventurer, Bryan of Old Town journeyed aboard the spearshaker to visit

the forested lands of the Ifequevron, the local ibbenese told him stories about the

ancient creatures, claiming that some still existed, and blessed those who left offerings

of leaf, stone and water.

Once known as the festival city, Chroyane by Falk Boje, depicts the richest and most

powerful of the Rhoynar cities who ruled over much of western Essos before the conquest

of the Valyrian Freehold.

Described as olive skinned with dark hair and eyes, the city states of the Rhoynar were

fiercly independent but also united by culture, language and religion, devoted to the worship

of the Goddess Mother Rhoyne.

Though conflict with the Valyrians was avoided for a time, while the Dragonlords conquered

the Andals along the northern and western coasts, war proved inevitable, leading Prince

Garin the Great of Chroyane to unite their Rhoynish armies, raising 250000 warriors accompanied

by powerful water wizards.

Yet in the end they could not contend with dragonfire, seeing their final defeat in the

Second Spice War around 700 years before the Targaryen conquest of Westeros.

With the army defeated, Prince Garin the Great was captured and locked in a golden cage where

he was to be forced to watch his beloved home of Chroyane destroyed.

But legends say Prince Garin resisted, calling upon the Goddess Mother Rhoyne to curse these

lands and destroy the invaders, resulting a violent flood which drowned everyone in

the area.

In the years that followed, the ruins of the sunken city became known as the Sorrows, a

land of darkness and disease, where some say a mysterious Shrouded Lord rules over Stone

Men, praying on those who become lost in the grey mists.

Far to the east of the known world, beyond the Bone Mountains of central Essos, the Bleeding

Sea by Sven Sauer & Greig Howitt, depicts the infamous lake whose waters appear red

due to a type of blooming plant in the area.

Yet despite the modest origins of its coloring, the suggestion of violence in the name of

these waters is not out of place, as stories say it is surrounded by lands of war and wicked

magics.

To the west lay the plains of the Jogos Nhai, ruled over by a nomadic warrior race, famed

for their ferocity in battle, while in the south there is the Golden Empire of Yi Ti,

the most powerful realm east of the bone mountains constantly trying to expand or defend their

borders.

To the north there is secret city of Nefer, believed to be home to necromancers and torturers,

as well as Mussovy, a great grey forest populated by shapechanger and demon hunters.

To the east there are the raider of a cold desert known as the Grey Waste, the Land of

Shrykes roamed by Shrieking monsters, and the city state of K'dath, where the inhabitants

perform horrific rituals to feed the hunger of their mad gods.
