Hey everybody, Jsquared John Jeremy here and I thought we
do something special for this week's vlog. It's Royal Rumble,
Next week and I thought that in advance of the official Royal Rumble,
we might try and do one of our own here on the channel.
Now, many of you know, some of you don't. I'm a huge fan of
professional wrestling, and I thought with today's blog we
might want to talk about that, or at least I'm going to talk about that. You
may not want me too, but I'm going to anyway. Because I'm a
heel at heart. And we're going to go ahead and talk about, you know,
what brought me into professional wrestling and why I
continue to watch it to this day here. But we're going to do so
while competing in, and attempting to win the Royal
Rumble match. Now for those of
you who are unaware. The Royal Rumble match is a match where 30,
sometimes even 40, participants will compete in an over the top
battle Royale, for an attempt to win the chance to compete at
WrestleMania for the WWE Championship or in this case now
the WWE Championship or
Universal Championship. And that happens in the majority of cases
now it doesn't guarantee a win, but it guarantees you a spot and in
many times it's used to propel a wrestlers major push to get
that title. So we're gonna go ahead and do that here. Now in the game. We're
gonna select 30 men. But we're gonna use
all potential characters here. So there is a lot of characters
here in this game. And I don't want to try and work my way
around everybody here. Like, I'm telling you there is a ton, plus
there are characters from years past, including like The
Undertaker 91, the Undertaker 2002. So what we're going to do
here is, there's a random button!
I'm going to go ahead and press that random button and we're gonna find out exactly who
we're going to be playing as. But you guys are first, I'm not
'cause what I'm going to do right now is, I'm gonna cover my eyes,
like this. I can't see a thing. And I'm gonna press
the random button here, and whoever the game selects is the
person we'll be playing as. So I'm randomizing, right now.
'kay so whatever the person that we've selected is. I'm gonna
go ahead and press A on them right now.
OK, now I think the next thing that comes up is number
selection, and I'm gonna go ahead and press A on that.
And then, it should just be...
OK, I think we've started the match. Let's find out exactly
who we're gonna be playing as here. I don't even know, I don't even
know, when I'm competing. So this ought to be interesting. So yeah,
professional wrestling, OK, so this is gonna, this is gonna
be a bit.
I'm going to kinda go back to the very beginning. And the very beginning
was actually back in... Oh, Man! The mid 90s, OK and I remember very
distinctly. My father actually bringing me into it. My father
was a professional wrestling fan too. He's not so much now, but
when he came over. He's an immigrant he immigrated in.
When he came over to the United States. Back in the 70s he lived in New York.
And in New York, one of the biggest things that was around
at that time was professional wrestling in Madison Square Garden.
Garden. So he'd go and watch the matches. And, you know, now he he brings me into it,
not much later. You know mid 90s... alright who have we got coming out first:
Ricky Morton. He brings me out into it in the mid 90s... and I see, I go watch
the Undertaker, I watch Shawn Michaels. This is back when
Shawn Michaels was part of the like, the rockers.
And it just clicked with me, something just clicks. But I'm too young
to really understand that I want to keep watching this regularly
and I kind of lose track for a little bit. Then, I actually
found WCW, a short time afterward, and this is back during the
heyday of the NWO.
I'm talk... Ohh, Gold Dust. I'm talking like 97ish now, late '96, late 97.
So I'm watching WCW for a very long time. And that's
something where... It's a whole different concept of
professional wrestling. Like the WWE is mostly known for its
storylines, it's extravagance. You know it's meant to be the
Hollywood-esque sort of thing. WCW at least at the time, was more
known traditionally as the
everyman's wrestling channel. Like you go in there and you would see better
quality wrestling, but they were also starting to pivot at point now to the
more, you know, Hollywood-eque storylines and TV time and all
that sort of stuff. So I'm literally becoming a fan in the
middle of what would become
known as the Monday-night-wars. WCW is Monday night Nitro versus WWE Monday
night Raw. And I remember, around this time, I would start
watching WCW Monday night Nitro at 8 'cause it would start an
hour earlier than Raw and then at 9 o'clock. I'd switch over
Monday night Raw, and then I'd flip back and forth between the two
wrestling shows. It was it was awesome. I just remember, wanting to,
you know, wanting to be a wrestler, you know, people want to become
football players, you know. I wanted to be a wrestler at one point. But I
actually found myself thinking about it later on, and I'm like
well first off: I'm not that great of an... athletic... I don't have much
athletic ability, so that's not my style. What I really
wanted to do, was to become a manager. I wanted to be,
somebody like Jim Cornette or Paul Bear, you know, somebody
who, would, like, really get the crowd, you know get under their skin and
totally, you know, be that guy you wanted to hate, but loved to hate at the same time.
Bobby ''The Brain'' Heenan for example, one of those guys who
you've loved watching him and you loved to hate him too. So...
Ever since then, ever since the mid 90s. I've been a fan of
professional wrestling. I've gone to see wrestling shows both,
what they call house shows, which is non televised competition or
it's not a competition, but it's non televised entertainment and
then, you know, Monday Night Raw,
which is you know the Monday night WWE show or, like, Smack down which
has flipped between like Thursdays and Fridays and even
Tuesdays at some point. So...
That is... OH! Eddie Guerrero, right out! I've gone to
see those shows as well.
So what it comes down to fandom. I am definitely a really big
fan. Even with the wrestlers that you see here in the ring. I
mean, Bron Strowman, somebody who has been around for a couple
years now. Gold Dust, you know, I remember watching his...
shtick, on TV back in the 90s. Just recently retired.
I mean, he technically he's not retired, I guess, he could still
compete every now and again. Christian you know again
another 90s. And Ricky Morton in the 80s. I mean, Andre the giant!
Another, another, infamous
wrestler here, who just went right through the ropes there, I'm not
really sure how that actually works out, but OK. Alright. So
big fan of professional wrestling, huge. [I think this might be an understatement.]
And I think what appeals to me the most about professional wrestling.
More so than really any, sport, is the stories that come
across your television screens , and you know it's one of the
major driving factors for me personally, like you can watch
the rise and fall of a wrestler.
You know through the stories that you see on the TV screen.
How the're cheered as a ''Babyface'', as a hero. somebody who the crowd
wants to, wants to see succeed and then suddenly, you know
whether it's because of greed, or ambition or just because
they're plain bad, they turn heel. They turn evil. You know they cheat!
They lie! They low blow people, and then you see their progression
as a heel. And...
It's just astounding to me like what stories you can find in
professional wrestling. Take a look at wrestling today. If
you're a fan of professional wrestling today. Many of you, you know,
are watching the WWE. Ann in the WWE one of the biggest storylines
out right now is: the fact that
Daniel Brian, somebody who has been a fan favorite, you know
for many, for many years, has turned heel. And has turned heel in
such a way that, the crowd. Even though they respect his ability
as a professional wrestler, 'cause he's a fantastic
professional wrestler. Will still boo him because, he just
gets under their skin. And that's the mark of a true, great. In
professional wrestling. The fact that you're able to get that
kind of reaction from the crowd. John Cena, another one.
Weather you love him or you hate him, you have a reaction to him, and a pretty
strong one of that, so there's always the question of, you know,
What's gonna happen next to which wrestler to which
character, who are they going to build the storylines around and
how are they going to build them. That's what I'm always looking
forward to. And I'm always looking forward to seeing what's next?
What stories can people create ? And people forget, or I guess,
People don't even realize like, there are people that are writing this stuff, that
are planning this out like a, like a soap opera, like a
television show. It is a television show. But, you know,
they're planning this out overtime and sometimes shorter
than others. But, they're still planning it and you know it's just something
that. It's so intriguing to me as a fan to think about the
behind the scenes concept of it to. Let alone you know watching
the in ring athletic ability of these people. I mean, good God.
The majority of these folks here. You don't think about it
really, but they can do things that
the majority of people around the world cannot. By pure
athletic skill alone, even though it's all choreographed.
It's all you know, they're training for this part so it's
it's still a showcase of great superior athletic ability and that's what
I always say when people come up to me, you know, and I'm
talking with them and you know, we're talking about things we
like and you know, I bring up professional wrestling and
people are like, ''well isn't that, isn't that fake'' you know. Yes,
the matches themselves are pre determined. But you cannot deny
the athletic ability of the people that are in that ring.
There comes Daniel Bryan right now.
So...
You can't... you can't deny that ability of the people in the ring
and you cannot deny the sheer power that the WWE is today. I mean
publicly traded on the stock market, they go around the
world, literally around the
world showcaseing. Their talents, abilities and providing
entertainment for fans. I remember back in the 90s. You
know, me personally, where you know, wrestling was almost like
dirty in a way, and... Now it's not, you know, and there are other professional
wrestling organizations as well, you know, I talk about the WWE
specifically because they're the ones I watch primarily. But there
are others. Both within the US and outside of it. You know, one
just recently was founded.
All...e... The AEW formed by, you know, Cody Rhodes and the
young Bucks. And that shows that there is an opportunity for even
more growth and expansion. Ring of Honor, another, another
organization that's gone for many years.
It's been around for many years. And then around the world as
well. Japan has several wrestling organizations. NJPW
being the most well known, but there is definitely a desire for
more of this content.
And I think what it really comes down to, is that.
The art of professional wrestling. I truly do believe
it's an art. The art of professional wrestling is that...
Oh God. I'm, I'm actually playing now. I felt my controller shake!

Daniel Bryan so I'm gonna go ahead and try and get up now.

Absolutely not, alright maybe yes.

I'm gonna need you to get out of my way Hitman! I was a big fan of Bret Hart
back in the day, too, like that's something where I was
always a fan of like the more technically savvy wrestler.
Versus like the showboat, personally, but my favorite
wrestler of all time is Rick Flair, I mean. Absolutely.
Just the amount of work that he puts in or had put in over the
years, tremendous. I even went back... Oh no no no! I even
went back to his... Uh oh. I think I'm out. I think is going to choke slam me
out of the ring. Please don't. Yeah, he did.
Oh! I can take over a number. Ok, I'll take over... I'll take over, number 20.
I even went back and watched his prior work during the old NWA
days. And you can see and going back to my point about how
there's such a.
A need, a desire for this is that professional wrestling, the art
of your physical combat. Is one of the purest forms of
entertainment out there.
Regardless of any language barrier that there may be in the
world. People always understand the concept of two guys or now two
women fighting it out. You know, and that is a language that's
understood regardless of where you are. So that's why...
It works when the WWE goes to visit, you know, places around the
world. Even though these wrestlers don't speak their
language. Their fists speak the language. You know, and people
get that. So that's something that's always appealed to me.
And I totally,
Like I really should, at this point, become a stockholder in
WWE, I feel that strongly about it truly. And the stock has done very
well, over the years. It's had a little, it's had some dips and valleys.
But I mean, I remember when the stock. I remember when the WWE
first entered the stock market. I think it was like '99 or 2000 and they
had you know the Rock and Stephanie McMann. They had them
all, they had them ring the Nasdaq Bell, and I remember
thinking at that time, I was like, that's, that's different. I
didn't understand what was going on at that time, really. But
now I look at it like: ''Oh, they were seen as legitimate'' you
know, the WWE was seen as a legitimate entertainment business.
Instead of like the circus sideshow. So I've been a
fan of professional wrestling
all throughout the years. There have been some times where I've kind of like
slowed my content down... Like I would have to say during the
ruthless aggression era. Maybe like the mid 2000s or so probably
around like 2000...
2006-2010ish. I kinda slowed it down. But then I
picked it right back up right afterwards. Because it was just
that easy to get into. And I tried to other organizations as well.
I used to watch TNA quite frequently, which is now known
as... Hell I don't know what it's known as now. Impact wrestling... Impact/GFW/TNA
They've gone through a lot of name changes and difficulties
over the years.
But... you know, I watched them for awhile. I remember when they had... I think
I think I'm Aiden English now or who am I now?
I'm somebody. Please don't, OK, yeah, I'm Aiden English.

Impact. I loved the idea of more competition. I think more

You know one thing I wish that the WWE games had...
Would be like a story. I guess like a career path that similar
to, I get why they, why they go with the like the stories now,
for these career paths. But they don't allow for multiple years
of progression. Like, what if there was like a franchise mode or
something similar to that?
In wrestling formats, I'm thinking of old school wrestling
games like attitude and...
Attitude was one I remember that had that, sort of, kind of, style.
Get out! No, I hit the Big Show! Now I hit the Big Show again!
Don't make the giant angry! [ A lesson I think we can all live by.]
We have another version of Daniel Bryan coming in.
But like this version of the WWE, for example, has a,
has a specific set story, that you can't really alter. I mean,
there are certain options, I guess, you can take but it
doesn't really change the outcome of the game in anyway or the
outcome of the characters career, so I wish that there was more to it than that.
Or if they were going to do that, they would also do...
like if they wanted to do a story career, cool. But also do like
like a franchise sort of option as well. They used to have it in
the Smack Down versus Raw days, on the PlayStation that they had
like a GM mode.
And uh... you know, there'd be... You can even have... you can even complete
against a friend. And the 2 of you would try and come
up with interesting matches and the best matches had the... Oh God! No!
The best matches had, you know, more stars and more stars meant better money
and better ratings and then that would lead to
somebody winning. So there needs to be... I think there needs
to be more of that in these types of games here. It
definitely like screams for it.

I don't know how we're still in this match by the way, I haven't
really done anything as English...And we're reaching number 30
right now in the rumble so we won't be able to change as

royal match here. We got Ricky, The Dragon Steamboat circa 1994.
We've got Konnor and we've got Sheamus. Now the Cynic in me,
would say Sheamus. But we'll see if Konnor or Steamboat can pull it out.
Um.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of professional wrestling. I'd love
to do a series somehow on WWE games. But, I've yet to figure
out a way to make it work that keeps it entertaining for an
extended period of time.

love to figure out a way to do a wrestling series somehow...

If I could just... if I could just sit back and commentate on
matches themselves. Like, I thought about this too. And if I could
sit back and commented on matches, like an in character,
Jim Ross... Oh, God Konnor! Konnor clotheslines Ricky the dragon
Steamboat out of the ring! Konnor of the
Ascension is the Royal Rumble winner at least of this channel.
Highly doubt, that'll happen in reality, but hey, you never know.
Oh Man, super cool, super cool, well there, you go, there's you winner.
Konnor of the ascension, the Royal Rumble
winner and like I said he would then go on to face the champion
of his choosing at WrestleMania.
I don't know. I really want to figure out a way to make a
wrestling series work on the channel. I know that the
majority of folks, though aren't fans of wrestling. And it may
turn off a lot of you.
But I do the same thing with Crusader Kings 2, so I don't
know... I don't know how I can make it work. But I really want
to try. I really do. I just haven't figured it out yet.
Like I said the closest I've gotten is I've really thought about
being like an in character, Jim
Ross-esque character. On commentary, while the matches were going on.
But, I'm not really sure how long, not playing in the game and
simply commentating over the game would be entertaining.
Maybe you guys can let me know, in the comments. If you would
find it entertaining or not. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
And I'd also love to hear your thoughts about what other sort
of blog or vlog. I guess entries. You'd like to hear me
chat about. What sort of topics you'd like to hear me chat about.
This because you know, it's Royal Rumble season and uh it's time
for me to...
You know, we were talking about with friend over discord and
yeah, it's about that time. It's the road to WrestleMania and it
