- Let's turn it off first... - No, it is working anyway.

- It is on. - Our voice is on. - Later.

- If we... - If it is disconnected, you can check it out again with replay.

- Replay. - You can. - That is different from live. - Yeah.

This live is different than that. Wait.

- Is it on? - It is working anyway.

We have some pauses.

- What if we turned it off and came back while lots of traffic coming in? - Turn it off.

- Hey, turn it off. - That will make no difference. - Really?

- Well, until people are coming in. - Let's just wink.

- Then... - Wait! - Is it okay to do this?

We have good teamwork.

Hey, if you want...

- Then... - What do you want? Turn it off or what?

Let me close.

2-Minute Neuroscience: Concussions - Duration: 1:59.

Welcome to 2 minute neuroscience, where I explain neuroscience topics in 2 minutes or

less.

In this installment I will discuss concussions.

A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury that occurs when rapid movement of

the head or an impact to the head causes the brain to move within the skull, potentially

stretching axons and damaging cell membranes of neurons.

When neuronal membranes are disrupted, it can cause the dysregulated flow of ions into

and out of the cell, as well as the increased release of excitatory neurotransmitters like

glutamate, which leads to further disruptions in ionic balance and a general inhibition

of neuronal activity.

Sodium-Potassium pumps work frantically to restore balance, but this causes depletion

of energy stores and an energy crisis that's compounded by lower than normal levels of

blood flow.

Additionally, the increased glutamate activity prompts excess calcium to enter cells; the

high calcium levels can disrupt the function of mitochondria, amplifying the energy crisis.

The decreased energy availability may last for days to a week or more and impact cognition.

The trauma and subsequent effects can also damage the structural integrity of neurons

and glia, further disrupting brain function.

These structural and biochemical changes are associated with the symptoms of a concussion,

which include (but aren't limited to) headaches, confusion, memory loss, and dizziness.

After a concussion, patients may also experience an increased susceptibility to another injury,

and repeated concussions have been linked to longer-lasting effects on brain function.

In some cases, patients who have experienced repeated concussions may begin, often years

after the repetitive trauma, to display symptoms of early-onset dementia, mood disturbances,

and Parkinsonian symptoms.

The resultant condition, known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, has also been linked

to the appearance of neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques, which are typically seen

in neurodegenerative diseases like alzheimer's disease.

Revealed: Secrets of Duchess Meghan's Letter to Father Thomas Markle After Wedding - Duration: 12:12.

Revealed: Secrets of Duchess Meghan's letter to father Thomas Markle after wedding.

Handwriting experts have analysed a letter sent by the Duchess of Sussex to her estranged father shortly

after her wedding to reveal the insights it gives into her character.

The bombshell five-page letter, sent in August last year,

saw Meghan accuse Thomas Markle of breaking her heart 'into a million pieces' by giving interviews to the press,

fabricating stories and attacking her new husband.

Today the UK's leading handwriting expert Emma Bache claimed the 'highly-stylised' letter suggested Meghan was 'ultra cautious' but also a 'showman and a narcissist'.

She told MailOnline: 'Meghan shows a highly stylised and slow handwriting.

She is ultra cautious, is well aware that the world has their eyes on her and that is just how she likes it.

'This is not a spontaneous or intellectually creative woman but a consummate performer and strategist.

'There is a strong right slant and her letters have often been retraced.

There is enormous emotion as well as energy but she is both self aware and self orientated.

'However she suffers from anxiety and in this instance her usual regularity and over control of pen strokes does show some wavering and a slight uneven baseline,

she is showing some wavering of self control. But not much!'

Bache continued to analyse other stylistic features of the letter that could give an eye into Meghan's mind.

'The pressure of the pen is strong - she is physically and sensually as well as materially motivated,' she said.

'The somewhat incongruous and visually dominating leftward upper zone flourishes appear to be tacked on,

this is the 21st Century female equivalent of the Dandy, the fop or indeed the showman - and yes the narcissist.

'There are circles within circles in the smaller letters which show her secrecy and unwillingness to reveal her true inner thoughts.

'She is stubborn and unlikely to waiver in her thoughts but she is ambitious, very hard working and driven'.

Tracey Trussell, a consultant graphologist at Handright, also offered an analysis of the letter.

She warned that not being able to handle the original pages made it difficult to make an exact assessment of the handwriting pressure,

a key indicator of the writer's feelings - but said it still contained several insights.

She told MailOnline: 'Meghan's handwriting is very stylised, revealing her perfectionist streak and desire to hide her true feelings under wraps.

'However, there are other clues. The whole piece of writing has clockwork regularity, and the rhythm is stilted and contrived,

which shows how much self-discipline Meghan exerts to keep her emotions and actions under control, so she doesn't do or say the wrong thing.

'There are also many starting and covering strokes at the beginning of words,

in the vertical axis (seen in the thickness of letters) - which also tells us how much thought she has given to writing this letter,

and how hard she was trying to say the right thing and be the strong person.

'These almost invisible accoutrements reveal how something that has happened in the past has been a source of disappointment for her'.

Handwriting slant can also offer an impression of the writer's character, Trussell said.

'Her emotional barometer (seen in the handwriting slant) is set to the right, which means that emotional responsiveness is high,

Meghan wants to be friendly and cooperative, she wants to communicate and express herself.

'Also, the spacing of the words is tellingly quite wide and irregular,

which also tells us that she gave great thought and consideration to the content of what she's saying,

to the extent that it was naturally causing her to feel quite a bit of anxiety.

This matter is clearly affecting Meghan deeply.

'She has strong left tendencies (where her endstrokes sweep up and backwards),

which reveal how much she reflects about things that have happened to her in the past,

and how it's impossible for her to forget people who have meant so much to her in her life'.

Trussell also highlighted the embellishments in Meghan's handwriting,

including the strokes that sweep across the tops of words.

She said: 'They look like little protective umbrellas, giving further credence to her deep feelings on the matter.

'They also reveal her vulnerability - the chink in her armour.

Surely this is enough proof how much Meghan cares? It must be exhausting for her!'

In the letter Meghan admonishes her father, in anguished tones, for siding with her half-sister Samantha,

who has attacked her in the press – while she 'silently suffered at the hand of her vicious lies'.

She goes on to complain that Mr Markle has made no attempt to contact her,

and chastises him for falsely telling journalists he is the one who has been shunned, a criticism her father vehemently refutes.

She also accuses her father of snubbing her and Prince Harry's offers to help when he pulled out of attending their wedding

following two heart attacks and accuses him of being ungrateful for money she has given him.

The former award-winning Hollywood lighting director, who now lives in Mexico,

said that he never intended to make the handwritten missive public 'out of respect for Meghan',

but says he has been forced to do so now because its contents have been falsely portrayed.

Contrary to claims made by the Duchess's friends, he said the letter made no attempt to heal their bitter rift.

'I thought it would be an olive branch. Instead, it was a dagger to the heart,' Mr Markle, 74, said last night.

He dismissed suggestions he has made no attempt to patch things up since her wedding.

He showed this newspaper texts which he says prove he reached out multiple times to his daughter and the son-in-law he has never met.

The US magazine People claimed to 'put the record straight' over the Duchess's relationship with her father and criticism of her style as a Royal.

It was based on interviews with five friends – at least one of whom is thought to be one of the Duchess's co-stars in Suits,

the legal drama in which she starred for six years.

The Duchess came under fire over her apparent decision to allow her confidantes to defend her in the extraordinary interview,

without, it is understood, involving Kensington Palace.

The palace has refused to comment on whether the magazine's anonymous sources had co-operated at the direct request of the Duchess or with her tacit approval.

Former Buckingham Palace press secretary Dickie Arbiter, who worked for both Prince Charles and the late Diana,

Princess of Wales, feared the decision would only exacerbate issues.

He said: 'Assuming – and as these sources are anonymous we don't know for sure,

that this was done with her agreement, it has opened a Pandora's box.

The issue with her father is an open wound and I'm not entirely sure it is the best idea to aggravate that'.

Last night, Mr Markle said it was unfair for his daughter's friends to use the media to 'spin a line' while he was being criticised for 'giving a handful' of interviews to the press.

In the article last Wednesday, the Duchess's friends said that she was devastated by his response to the letter,

in which he suggested father and daughter pose for press pictures.

One friend said: She feels like "that's the opposite of what I'm saying.

I'm telling you that I don't want to communicate through the media, and you're asking me to… Did you hear anything I said?"

Mr Markle said he had suggested the photo op as a way of showing the world they could be friends again,

describing the Duchess's reading of it as 'tragic misunderstanding' he wishes he could put straight.

The rift between the Duchess and her father began after The Mail on Sunday revealed,

just days before her wedding in May last year, that he had colluded with the paparazzi to stage a series of lucrative photo opportunities.

Such was his humiliation that he offered to pull out of attending the Royal Wedding and was later prevented from going after suffering two heart attacks.

Since then, he has given a series of damaging interviews in which he has spoken of his dismay at being cast adrift by his daughter and the Royal Family.

How Meghan's media fightback led her father to reveal letter he wanted to keep secret?

The Duchess's father told no one about her letter and planned to 'keep it totally private out of respect for her',

until her friends launched their 'attack' on him last week.

Following Meghan's 'Duchess Difficult' reputation and stories of her allegedly petulant behaviour like firing off 5am

emails to staff and demanding air freshener be sprayed around musty St George's Chapel, Windsor,

Meghan is said to have authorised five of her closest friends to speak to US People magazine to correct the falsehoods.

The article painted Meghan in a glowing light, while insisting the negative stories about her were lies.

But Mr Markle says Meghan's decision to reveal the private letter in the pages of the magazine left him with no choice but to go public:

'The letter was presented in a way that vilified me and wasn't true,' he said last night.

'It was presented as her reaching out and writing a loving letter in the hope of healing the rift,

but the letter isn't like that at all. Meghan can't have it both ways.

She can't use the press to get her message across but hang me out to dry. I have the right to defend myself'.

Experts have claimed the Duchess is walking a dangerous path by allegedly bypassing the palace press office.

S. Koreans' attendance rate for cultural, arts events surpasses 80% for first time: Culture Ministry - Duration: 1:48.

More and more South Koreans are spending time on cultural and arts performances.

Closer look reveals the frequency of attending such events still seems to closely linked

household income.

Kim Mok-yeon has the full story.

The number of Koreans attending cultural and arts events has risen dramatically in recent

years with the figure surpassing 80 percent of the population for the first time last

year.

According to a survey released by the Culture Ministry on Monday, the rate of public attendance

at such events peaked at a high of 82 percent over the one-year period from August 2017

to July 2018, rising more than 3 percentage points on-year.

The frequency of visits to cultural and arts events also increased to an average of 5.6

times a year from 5.3 times in 2006.

Movies had the highest attendance rate with 76 percent.

Next were music and art performances with 21 percent, followed by art exhibitions.

By age, people in their 20s had the highest attendance rate, followed by those in their

teens and 30s.

When it comes to income, the ratio between household income and attendance of cultural

events remained proportional.

Households with a monthly income higher than 4,500 U.S. dollars had attendance rates higher

than 90 percent, while the figure dropped to 43 percent for those who earn less than

890 dollars a month.

The ministry said that it plans to create more opportunities for everyone to enjoy cultural

events by increasing cultural subsidies for low-income households and by creating more

social infrastructure in the sector.

The survey was conducted on more than 10 thousand people aged above 15 years old nationwide

from October to November last year.

Amazon Go after 1 year... automated stores to become more common - Duration: 1:51.

The world's first checkout-free grocery store opened to the public in the U.S. last year.

Some experts say that more of these kinds of stores will pop up over the next few years.

Seo Bo-bin tells us more.

E-commerce giant Amazon opened its first Amazon Go automated store about a year ago in its

hometown Seattle.

Currently it has about 10 stores across the U.S.

Amazon Go is a new way of grocery shopping where customers just walk in, pick the groceries

that they need and simply walk out.

Different from any other stores, Amazon Go doesn't have shopping carts, but instead customers

put the items directly into the bag they brought with them.

To use the store, people must be logged in to the Amazon Go application.

As customers leave the store with the items they need, Amazon charges their account.

This system allows people to shop with convenience and speed.

This whole system works through advanced technology and AI, where hundreds of cameras on the ceiling

track every move and every item the customer grabs.

Although such stores are still in the early stages, a lot of businesses are coming up

with advanced technology which could change the environment of offline distribution channels.

Experts are saying that such automated stores will become common in the near

future.

"I think within 10 years from now it will be very common and in fact maybe it will be

weird to go to a store that doesn't have autonomous checkout."

However, there are still issues that need to be solved.

There are concerns that with more automated stores, there will be decline in jobs and

although automated stores will increase, how long it takes for them to become commonplace

depends on the time it takes for technology to run the stores without any problems.
