So, I was talking with my friend Adam a few days ago,

and what I asked him about was YouTube.

Why was it so popular, why so many people would

look at YouTube and follow all these YouTubers

and that they were kinda hooked on them

more than they would be with TV shows

or even Netflix or the likes.

And what he said about YouTube,

was that people were able to

build a relationship with the YouTubers they'd follow.

That inspired another question in me:

Why didn't I have any interest in it?

The only answer I could put together was that

not much on YouTube is done in Irish.

Now, I know a *few* videos exist,

and a few YouTubers do some videos through Irish,

but I don't think there's too much.

So, I guess that's why I'm doing this.

Because...

there's a kind of gap there in comparison

to the rest of content on YouTube.

So, in the absense of that: My name is Scott.

I'm 30 years old,

I'm from Dublin,

but I live in Cork city with my partner.

and I *love* to travel and write

and to make videos, apparently.

Well, maybe. I don't normally like videos, and

there was a time when I worked in media

and I preferred radio, but we'll see how I get on here.

The other thing you'll notice is that this is all in Irish.

and I've made [English] subtitles available also.

For anyone outside Ireland who knows me,

maybe this is the first time for them

where they'd hear me speak in Irish.

Maybe that's a little weird

but it'd be no surprise because even when I lived in England

I spoke about the Irish language often enough

and I explained the passion I have for the language

even while I lived in England.

Maybe this is their first chance

to hear me speaking in Irish. If so, welcome!

This is another version of me,

speaking a totally different language.

A language which is a little more natural to me than English.

English isn't my mind's 'first' language, if you get me.

English is technically my "mother" tongue,

because that is the first language I spoke,

but as regards a native language,

that's Irish, I reckon, because

speaking Irish is more natural to me,

it's easier to explain and understand things...

[hiccups] Excuse me!

Yeah... Since I was, what, 16? 17?

I was fluent in Irish

It's nicer to me, and I have a passion for the language,

either way, as you can tell.

As for this new YouTube channel,

I don't know what I should talk about!

Here's a chance for you to tell me

what I should do, or talk about, maybe.

So, if... I dunno...

If you're an American,

of Irish heritage,

or maybe English of Irish heritage,

maybe you'd be interested in the language?

Maybe I should give a few Irish lessons?

There's a few, well, some,

videos on YouTube already

and of course, there's the Duolingo Irish course also,

so there are a few resources out there

to learn Irish.

But apart from anything educational,

what should I do?

I'm travelling to Dublin and Belfast soon,

so should I do a travel vlog?

I dunno.

I don't really want to discuss politics here

but maybe it would be interesting to you?

I'm a gay guy,

and maybe I'll explain how I came out at 15,

but that's really only one part of me.

Y'know, I'm gay, but that's not all there is to me.

but maybe that bit is of interest to you.

There was a time when I worked in media;

maybe that's interesting.

Or maybe you'd be curious that, I dunno

that Sonic the Hedgehog is my favourite game ever!

This is only a beginning, but

I want to introduce myself to you,

and forge a link with Irish-speaking YouTubers

and maybe other YouTubers in Ireland and elsewhere,

who may have a talent for languages

and if that's the case, get in touch!

Because, I love languages anyway

and I love to travel, and if I can, maybe,

travel to you...? Who knows.

But, yeah, this is a start.

I don't expect any beginning to be perfect, but it's a start.

"A good start is half the work", as the saying goes.
