Autobahn-Challenge: Hält der Jaguar I-PACE mit dem Tesla Model X mit? - Duration: 8:22.

Today we are testing the new Jaguar I-PACE in direct comparison to the Tesla Model X.

That means no comparison of average values but both cars will be driven at the same time on the Autobahn.

The Jaguar was made available to us by the car dealer Reichstein & Opitz in Jena.

The car was never charged on CCS so far. The odometer shows 1.300 km (800 mi).

Before our own I-PACE are delivered, we have the chance to test this demonstration model.

In this test we not only want to compare the consumption of both cars but also DC-charging and thus the long distance capability.

Is Tesla still the undisputed leader in electric long distance traveling or can the new Jaguar IPACE, actually KEEP-PACE.

Before we hit the road, we want to ask Mr. Gartner from the car dealership regarding his impressions.

You see, I got the Tesla Model X. We want to benchmark the cars directly to each other.

We drive the cars at the same time with moderate Autobahn speed on the way to a DC-charger in Berlin.

The Jaguar started with 77% state of charge, the Model X with 82%.

The trip calculator estimates arrival with 5% remaining state of charge.

There you see the beautiful I-PACE passing by.

With the Model X we drive a small detour so that both cars drive exactly 273 km to the next DC-charger.

And then we want to compare the charging speeds against each other. How many kilometers in what time is the question.

So now the real challenge is starting. We have swapped cars.

Stefan is driving now the Jaguar I-PACE and I am driving the Model X.

Stefan drove perfectly. 21 % remaining charge to the next Supercharger – that is easy to achieve.

We are approaching our destination.

Another 20 km (12 mi) to drive.

We have traveled 240 km (149 mi). But the car was not fully charged.

Now another 19 km (12 mi) to drive. The car estimates 27 km remaining range.

Regarding consumption we are clearly negatively surprised.

We have an average consumption of 22 kWh/100 km (35 kWh/mi) at an average speed on this trip of 93 kph (58 mph).

We started our test softly with speeds of around 100 to 110 kph.

But we have realized early that the car has a high consumption on the Autobahn.

Although we passed several construction sites with speed limits and kick downs were avoided completely.

The Model X has considerably more battery left.

We have planned the trip according to the Model X, because we expected both cars to be comparable.

And now we arrive more or less with an empty battery. The DC fast charger in Berlin must work.

The Model X so far had a consumption of 17.5 kWh/100 km (28 kWh/mi).

The I-PACE is at 22.5 kWh/100 km (36 kWh/mi) - approximately 23% higher consumption. That's a tough call.

Especially, since the Model X is a seven seater and considerably heavier.

So the appearance and driving behavior of the I-PACE are great but witch regards to the electric parameters it is actually not ok.

We have arrived with the Jaguar I-PACE at the Porsche Center in Berlin Adlershof.

In total there a 4 charging stations.

Two of these (Type 2) to charge current Plugin-Hybrid Vehicles of Porsche.

The Porsche Taycan (nextmove has reserved the car) is expected to hit the market soon. The charging station of the future is already here.

The I-PACE is charging at one of them now.

According to specification up to 400 Ampere that would result in 160 kW charging speed.

The I-PACE is already charging for several minutes.

Taking a look at the display we can tellthat apparently the charging station is currently limited to 200 Ampere.

Therefore the car is currently 'only' able to charge at 80 to 83 kW.

But the car is able to hold this level for a long time.

We are monitoring the charging process.

Of course we hoped to see higher charging power but the display indicated that 500 Volt and 200 Ampere are the current limit at this charging station.

For our test driven I-PACE against the Tesla Model X, I had to drive some extra rounds since I need to drive exactly 272 km.

I have achieved the distance and now the supercharging will start.

We have finished charging the I-PACE at the fast charger.

The car charged at a maximum level of 84 kW – limited by the charging station.

The car probably could have charged faster.

It maintained the power level for a long time.

At 80% state of charge the car had 55 kW charging power and 90% still 40 kW. That is very good.

You can charge to high battery levels without losing much time.

We are on our way back and I would like to summarize test.

We drove 130 kph (81 mph) for a while

Nelly had another coffee at the Supercharger, so she is driving a few miles behind us but she will probably catch up with us soon.

Simply because the Model X is superior to the I-PACE on the long haul.

The high consumption is critical, they really screwed up the electrical driving parameters.

We were driving 130 kph (81 mph) for 50 km and had an consumption of 30 kWh/100 km (48 kWh/100 mi).

Flat terrain, sunny weather, air condition is on but only at 23 ºC in (73 ºF) – so not particularly cold.

That translates into a summer Autobahn range of barley over 250 km (155 mi).

In winter of course even less.

Overall, the car is only partially suitable for long distance driving. Apart from that it's a nice car.

Wireless phone charging cheap for your car - Duration: 4:44.

Hi, today I want to share with you my idea about retrofitting in your car

wireless charging for your phone. Even if your car is not available with that

option and even if your phone is not supporting the wireless charging feature.

So first thing of all we need to buy some hardware. This is the wireless

charger that you are supposed to install somewhere in your car. you have a micro

USB port over here to power it up. And this is my iPhone 6 which also doesn't

come with the wireless charging but I found a receiver that's installed

under the case. It's pretty much seamlessly installed over there. And it's

connected to the Lightning port over here. So as I said this is an iPhone 6

and as you can see... Can you see it? Yeah! As you can see there's a wireless charging

receiver over here. And the idea is that the charger has to be built in somewhere

in the car and as soon as I place my phone over there it will charge up so

let's check if this works.

OK, I have the microUSB cable connected to a phone

charger in my 12-volt outlet, the ignition is on, the wireless charger is

connected and the green LED is indicating that the device is ready to

charge my phone. And as soon as I place my phone over it...

So I should remove this,

install the charger underneath and every time I

place my phone over there it should charge up. So let's check if

the charger works through that plastic cover.

OK, it works.

I got both

the charger and the phone receiver from Aliexpress and you will find links in

the description below. But I strongly suggest you search it up on Aliexpress

on your own just to find the correct device because I choosed the

most basic one (the cheapest one that I could find). There are some bigger ones

and you don't have to search with your phone the correct place

for the most efficient charging. There are bigger emitters. So check out what

will fit your car of the best and choose that one. Also there are different

connectors. iPhone uses the Lightning connector. There are with microUSB,

I believe the USB-C also. I checked this charger with an iPhone 8

and iPhone X, so there's no issues over there.

And right now what I should do is

make a hole over here, somewhere over here, guide those cables through it,

and hide this device underneath so there's no bump, additional bump

under the rubber cover.

And connect this to the 5-volt line. I can use the phone

charger or I can use a step-down converter which will make 12 volt to 5

volt step-down conversion. And after that I can use it as an wireless

phone charger. And this costs like $5, $10 if you need to buy the case for

your phone. $10 installation to make your car

and your phone wireless charging ready.

And I believe if you want to buy this

feature when you are buying a new car and you want you to equipped your car

with this option you have to pay like $250. In Volkswagen it was like

$300 just for this option. And here you can have it for $10 and install

it within an hour or maybe two.
