Youtube daily report Feb 6 2017

Hey everyone, it's me Kaitlyn I am really thankful for all of your support

so far for Kaitlyn's Gonna Donate As you guys know, I'm raising money for three

awesome organizations Calgary Immigrant Women's Association, The

MS Society of Canada and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society

Today's video is a little different I was able to hang out with my coworker and

my friend Paul from the Canadian Down Syndrome Society

Instead of doing a profile I decided that it'd be a lot more fun

if Paul and I just did a YouTube challenge together

I hope you guys enjoy it!

Peace!

As you guys know, I've been raising money for Kaitlyn's Gonna Donate

and CDSS is one of the recipients So I'm here today with Paul Sawka, the Awareness

Leader at CDSS Can you tell us what you do at CDSS?

I am not just Paul Sawka, I'm also the Awareness Leader

because that is my position here And what I do here is I write my own blog (cdss.ca/paul)

Answer the phone all the time, put out information

packages All the mail out, I do.

Got things like PDFs and orders.

I love my job, I love my coworkers.

Support is always fun to have.

In any job you gotta have workers, co-workers, and support.

And we See the Ability!

Nice.

So we're gonna play the Disney Challenge.

You're an expert at all things Disney.

That's right.

I love Disney.

Alex behind the scenes is going to play a song from a Disney movie

And then you have to guess what that song is (from)

If you get it right then you get two points, if you get it wrong and I'm able to guess

it then I get the points.

And the first to 10 points wins!

Are you ready to destroy me at Disney?

Yes I am. -K, let's do this!

<<Music starts playing - Bare Necessities?I think? or is it Bear Necessities???>>

Oh yeah, it's the Jungle Book!

Jungle Book, that's right!

Nice.

<<Music plays - the intro to Let It Go from Frozen>>

Now that is Frozen.

Yeah!

Man, I'm not even steeling points, you're just getting them right away.

<<Music plays - it's dialogue from the Little Mermaid, but Kaitlyn doesn't know what song!>>

Oh yeah, that's the Mermaid!

So you have six points, I have zero points.

<<Music plays - Peter Pan is talking, I really don't know though!!>>

Now that's Peter Pan.

What?!?! <<People in the background are laughing in surprise>>

I didn't even know!

<<Music plays - this is Can You FeelThe Love Tonight from the Lion King but Timon and Pumba!>>

That's the Lion King!

Okay.

So Paul won.

Paul won the game, we're already at 10 points.

Let's do a couple more, because you are killing it.

<<Music plays - Mary Poppins is speaking>>

Must be Mary Poppins.

I think that I'm a Disney fan but I genuinely have no idea.

<<Music plays - intro to Bipidibopidiboo ????>>

Oh yeah, that's Cinderella!

<<Music plays - intro to a song from Pocahontas???? I haven't seen it since I was a kid!!>>

That's Pocahontas.

Congratulations Paul, you destroyed me, I didn't even have a chance.

Well done.

Clearly you are the true expert here.

On like a personal note, I'm really glad that you're my coworker, you've taught me a lot

not just about Down syndrome.

I'm really glad to know you, you're super interesting and you have like the widest range

of interests out of anybody in the world.

Also, you have your life together in a way that I think most people want their life together.

And I think you're a great role model for all people, not just people withDown syndrome,

but you're a role model for me.

'Cause you're older than me and that's why I can say that.

'Cause you're 30 already.

And I'm not 30 yet!

I know.

So thanks, I appreciate you doing this video with me man.

I appreciate working with you.

I appreciate your occasional text just checking in and I appreciate your friendship and your

amazing dance skills.

That's right.

I also want to say that all people in Canada need to - I encourage them all every single

one to please donate to Canadian Down Syndrome Society

Because that is who we are!

See you all in Banff!

See you guys in Banff or wherever you guys are

Links are in the description below for Canada Helps and all that good stuff to donate.

And thanks again Paul for telling me about what you do here and destroying me at the

Disney game.

We keep shaking hands!

Yes we do!

Okay!

Thanks, see you everybody.

Okay bye!!!

Bye everyone!

Take care!

When I am thirty, I hope to be as awesome as you are.

When I'm thirty.

in 3 months.

So thanks.

Hell freezes over: guest blames Russia for war in Ukraine on Russian state TV live - Duration: 4:01.

Why do I think that responsibility is on you, on me, on Zhenia?

Presenter: On me?

Yes, of course, as on the citizens of our country [Russia]. The responsibility for the horror which is going on there [in Donbas].

Because this horrible war

with casualties , ugliness, and violence from both sides

would not continue

for more than a day

if we didn't support it with weapons, money, and people,

if we didn't support these so-called leaders of these "republics".

In my opinion, I do not have evidence, but I have the impression that they are criminals.

One of the leaders of the "Donetsk People's Republic" Mr. Pushylyn

before fighting for the freedom of Donbas used to be a regional manager of the MMM [failed financial pyramid].

Does everybody remember what the MMM was about?

So he used to be its regional manager.

Now he fights for the freedom of Donbas.

I do not trust these people.

Who was Zakharchenko?

Presenter: Leonid, I will interrupt you for a second.

He was selling chickens. He had two shops.

If we stopped supporting these people, the war there would stop in no time.

It would have ended not with a genocide or anything like that,

that's bullshit.

Because we have an example.

There was the city of Sloviansk.

For a long time, it was "defended" [from the Ukrainian army] by, as I think, our criminal Girkin.

Strelkov-Girkin, a citizen of the Russian Federation.

Presenter: You think, but traditionally do not have proof.

I have proof, sorry.

He proffessed himself as a commander of this defense.

And he is a citizen of the Russian Federation.

Before, he used to be an observer of the newspaper Zavtra.

Then, Rogozin [Deputy Prime Minister of Russia] promised he would go to a trench in Sloviansk.

He said that he will give up all his positions

for the happiness to be in a trench, "defending" Sloviansk.

But he did not get there.

When Girkin was kicked out of Sloviansk and the Ukrainian Army came there,

there weren't any excesses.

Normal life was established there.

There was no humanitarian catastrophe.

We have nothing to do there.

Our guys have nothing to do there.

And the fact that we support all these Zakharchenkos who get their giant cuts of the pie from the situation etc

is yours responsibility,

as you are a citizen of the Russian Federation, and my responsibility, as I am a citizen of the Russian Federation.

[another part of the program]

Gozman: I am not a citizen of Ukraine. I am worried about the idiots in our government.

I am not a citizen of Ukraine. I am worried about the idiots in our government.

Guest: Give him a say [with irony]

Gozman: When you show this guy whose mother died.

Any normal person, I hope any person in this studio understands that this is horrible.

Those who have relatives there [in Donbas] for sure and those who do not have relatives there, everybody wants it to stop.

But I am not sure that our authorities need it to stop.

I think we need to continue [the war].

We receive a lot from it. Our leadership receives a lot from this war.

Presenter: What do we receive?

They receive a consolidation of society.

They receive an enemy. But now Trump.

You were vilifying Obama for 3 years.

Now we are not allowed to blame Americans. Now they are good.

Guest: You are not allowed to blame Americans?

No, you [the media] are not allowed.

Erdogan now is a friend.

But we need an enemy. We have to explain why our life is bad.

So I am afraid that our authorities do not have a strong motivation to stop it.

The leadership of "LNR"/"DNR" also does not have this motivation.

Imagine that this horror stops there, where would these Zakharchenkos go? Who in the world needs them?

What exactly are proxies? • Animated Infotainment-video | TheRPunkt (German) [English subtitles] - Duration: 6:32.

What exactly are proxies?

The word 'proxy' is English and means 'Stellvertreter' in German.

It forwards requests on the client's behalf to the requested server and

leads them to believe that they are connected

with each other.

Let's test this with an example: On the internet, there are plenty of pages to look for public proxies

all over the world.

I randomly decided for one proxy in France.

Therefore, I firstly went to a webpage which displays

where my IP comes from.

With the default-settings in Firefox it portrays that I am from Germany.

As far as we tested it, this is correct.

Let's suppose that we do not want that everybody can see where we are from.

To achieve that, we just enter the French proxy address,

refresh the page and now we are from France.

Let's come to the two main functions of proxies:

Firstly, proxies have access to the application layer

of the OSI model.

That means, that it can look in the packets and analyse the content

of it.

Moreover, it can change the content to

sort viruses and malware out.

If you do not know about the OSI model: Have a look at the description.

There you can find helpful links and videos which will explain it.

So, let's come back to proxies, because there is a second function

which could be useful. A proxy is namely helpful

to store or to cache often requested pages or answers,

that means that the information is saved to directly response

to the client's request.

For example, the webpage of the domain google.com could get cached

to achieve lower load time.

Namely, there isn't only one sort of proxies. This would have been too easy,

wouldn't it?

The two most important types are the default proxy and the reverse proxy.

The default proxy acts for the proxy, scrutinizes the content

of its connections and caches often requested information.

The client is sending the request to the server but the proxy undertakes the connection

and analyses the packets.

Afterwards, it tries to build up the connection with the server

and sends the packets to it.

The response of the server gets also analysed, maybe cached

and finally the proxy uses its connection to the client to deliver the requested information.

The reverse proxy works the other way around and stands in front of many

servers, typically webservers.

That means that the client builds up the connection to for instance the domain

google.com.

However, this is not the link to a specific server

but to a proxy.

This request handles the reverse proxy and analyses the client's inquiry.

Afterwards, it serves as a load balancer, which means that it

passes our request to the lowest occupied server.

If you want to learn more, about load balancing,

I recommend a quick google search 😊.

Back to the topic, we can say that the webserver which was chosen works on the request and

sends out its response to the proxy, which uses his connection to the client to deliver the answer

back to it.

You may also know proxies from another cause.

There are a lot of negative headlines, for instance about the

proxy-client "TOR".

This client is one example of anonymous and high anonymous proxies.

Anonymous proxies disguise the client's IP. A part from that, they work like default proxies

and a high anonymous proxy does not only cover up your IP-address but also lead the requested server

to believe that you connect with a public non-proxy IP-address.

The most known service for this is the already mentioned "TOR-client".

All these proxy types are protocol-specific,

which means that we need a new proxy for every protocol, for example one proxy for http requests and

one proxy for ftp requests.

However, there are also proxies which do not depend on

a specific protocol.

Although a circuit-level proxy is not able to analyse the content of a packet, it can access

the third and fourth layer, so the network- and transport layer, as well as with a specific service

the fifth layer of the OSI model.

Therefore, it is not only possible to scrutinize ports and addresses of the packet.

It is also possible to enable an authentication, for example with a password.

As a comparison, we can say that it has the same permissions like a postman.

It can look up the recipient's address and port and the sender's addresses and port.

Additionally, it can demand on an authentication like a signature that the package has arrived at the right person.

Let's come to advantages and disadvantages of proxies:

Firstly, there is the cache, which should reduce load time

and costs because you produce less internet traffic.

However, nowadays there are unlimited flat rates and

fast connection speeds which are more or less standard and

which let this advantage fade more into the background.

Moreover, proxies are used to safeguard from viruses and malware and

serve as a load balancer.

The disadvantages start with the complexity of content-filtering

and the need to update this.

Additionally, most of the software for proxies are not transparent,

which means that you must change settings at the server

as well as the client to properly run

the proxy.

Moreover, a lot of protocols do not support the use of proxies and

unfortunately anonymous proxies are often used to view

illegal content like child pornography.

That's it with this video.

If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comment section or to inform

yourself with the help of the sources (which are in German) showed on the screen, which are as well

linked in the description.

If you liked the video, even if the original video is in German,

do not hesitate to leave a like and

let me know if you want to see more of this.

Seismic - How to drill onto even steel - Duration: 3:46.

English Subtitles

The purpose of this how-to-video is to explain how a seismic detector can be directly mounted

onto a smooth steel surface.

For technicians, who are familiar with installing seismic detectors directly onto a steel surface,

the only real change would be in the actual drill template.

The main changes are the detector location - is indicated here with the cable access points.

And for this particular application, we are interested in the weld symbol, which depicts

that the detector is being mounted onto a steel surface.

And for the direct application, which means the detector will be screwed directly onto the steel,

we follow the lines and the arrows, which indicate the 2 mounting holes...

which will secure the detector.

And the GMXS1 location, which is located here.

All other symbols and holes and indications are not required as part of this process.

The drill template an be rotated through 360 degrees to meet the required cable access point

Here, we've rotated through 180 degrees, which shows the cable access point now at the bottom

of the detector, which lines up with the detector. With the 2 mounting holes still lining up with the

drill template. And the GMXS1 location lines up with the true location.

With the template stuck to the steel surface and the holes identified, another top tip might be

to identify the hole size that have to be drilled in the steel. Here, we can see 3.5mm and 3.5mm.

With the 3 holes now drilled to 3.5mm diameter and tapped to M4, the drill template can be

removed from the steel surface.

The detector can now be secured into its final location.

The detectors can now be secured into its final location.

The GMXS1 test transmitter can now be offered to the steel surface.

Using a torch screwdriver, tighten up the screws to a force of 2 newtons.

The installation of the detector is now complete.

Star Wars: Blade Squadron, Part II (Short Story) - Duration: 2:52.

Telling the story of Episode VI: Return of the Jed from a different perspective, we are

here discussing David J Williams and Mark S Williams short story "Blade Squadron:

Part Two," found in Star Wars Insider #150 and on starwars.com!

The Battle of Endor had begun.

Gina Moonsong could see that everything in her life had led to this moment.

There was no turning back now.

She pulled into formation behind Blade Leader, while Lieutenant Baylent Stramm matched her

course and did the same.

Their target, the Star Destroyer Devastator.

They nearly made all the way it to the massive ship until TIE interceptors poured out from

the ship and towards the fighters.

We know from the previous story that the TIEs were ordered to hold formation behind the

ship, so they were ready on a moment's notice to engage the Rebels.

B-wings were assault fighters, not meant for this type of ship on ship combat, but they

held their own, determined to see it through.

As the battle raged on, it was not long before the rebels discovered that the Death Star

was operational, as its super laser took out an entire rebel cruiser in one blow.

The wing leader, Adon Fox, was soon targeted by the commander of the TIE interceptor squadron.

While Fox was an excelling fighter pilot, he was cornered.

Though a last minute maneuver allowed him to get off a final shot on the TIE interceptor,

he and his ship sustained too much damage for him to be able to control his ship.

Blade Squadron had lost its leader.

It was now up to Gina Moonsong, Blade Three, to come up with the attack plan for the squadron,

as Blade Two, Lieutenant Stramm, helped keep her safe and the interceptors off her back.

The maneuver allowed them an opening, and Gina plotted a course that put herself and

Blade Two in position to fire on the Devastator's Navigational shielding, detonating the hyperdrive

and causing a chain reaction, destroying its primary generators.

And then they discovered the Death Star's shields were down.

Blade Two called to Admiral Ackbar, letting him know that there was a clear path to the

Death Star for the Millennium Falcon and others on the attack front.

They tried to rally the rest of their squad, but sadly, there was no one left but Stramm

and Moonsong…

No one, until Adon Fox, Blade Leader returned to the scene.

Badly damaged.

Limping along, and unable to eject from his fighter, he orders the two remaining fighters

to help support the fleet as they began their attack.

His ship faded behind them as they two joined the fight.

Kat Von D Pastel Goth Office Professional Makeup Tutorial + Storytime About My Past Jobs - Duration: 4:34.

Hey guys welcome back.

Today I'm going to be doing an office professional eyeshadow makeup tutorial with the Kat Von

D Pastel Goth palette.

As a quick reminder, all of my videos have closed captioning, so if you prefer to watch

videos without any sound you can do that by clicking on the little CC button.

All right.

I've already put on eyeshadow primer.

I used Smashbox Lid Primer in light.

It has a light beige yellow sort of tint to it, so you can see I didn't go all the way

up to my brows.

This is where it's white from my skin.

I'm using a Sigma E25 brush.

Basically I'm going to put this as a wash of color on the lid and the hood of my eyes.

If you don't have hooded eyes you're going to want to put this in your crease.

Now you want to apply Clementine with a smudge brush under the eyes.

I'm using the Urban Decay Naked Basics Smudge brush.

Use the Real Techniques Base Eyeshadow Brush with Skull.

Take Dagger with the E36 and we're going to basically work at darkening the outer corner

of the eye with the E36 brush.

I'm applying Dagger in a C shape.

I'm using the Urban Decay Tapered Blending brush and just blending more at that outer

crease area.

On my eyes the gray is about probably the outer one third of my eye.

Mix Clementine and Dagger together to apply to the outer lower lid.

Once you have your crease and lower lash line blended the way you like I'm going to take

Kat Von D Thunderstruck.

I'm going to put this at the inner lid, about the inner half of the lid.

Next I'm going to take the color Dagger with the Sigma E6 brush.

I'm going to use this to line along the upper lash line very thinly.

I put on Urban Decay's Perversion mascara.

I miss having my lash extensions.

I can't wait until my allergies are chill enough that I can actually go back to wearing

lash extensions because I hate fussing with mascara.

I'm going to use the Nyx Faux White pencil in Seashell on my lower waterline.

I'm going to zoom in for you to check out the final look.

For the rest of my look I'm going to tell you what I'm wearing.

I'm using the FoM Facial Enhancer in light.

I used the Physician's Formula Butter Blush in the shade plum rose.

I used Winky Lux.

This is their pH conditioning balm that has an indigo flower in it.

It's really pretty.

Typically, I do not like things that change to my pH, but this gives me just a little

tint that's very office appropriate in my opinion, for a conservative office environment.

For most of my adult life I did not work in a conservative office environment.

In fact, I really only worked in an ultra conservative environment for about six months

and I hated it.

I have always sought out jobs that judged me based on my performance rather than my

appearance.

Pretty much now that I work from home I just obviously do whatever I want.

When I worked in game development I did whatever I wanted which was awesome.

I really appreciate jobs that allow creative freedom and allow you to express yourself

however you want.

What I wore most the time when I worked in a conservative office environment was the

Holika Holika Petit orange BB cream.

This was before I was cruelty free.

Basically that was a really, really thick really pale BB cream that would just cover

up everything, which was great.

Then I may or may not even put on a single wash of Duochrome Eyeshadow.

I put on a little bit of mascara.

On my lips I would almost always wear one of the Tarte LipSurgence lip tint things.

That's pretty much all I wore because I was in a very, very, very conservative office.

I had to put a nose stud in my nose piercing and I had to wear a clear retainer for my

labret piercing.

Basically, yeah.

That was very, very conservative and I hated it.

Anyway, hopefully this look gives you an idea of how you can use the colors in the Pastel

Goth palette in a conservative office friendly makeup look.

Really you could've done, if you didn't want to do peach, you could probably do most of

these shades.

Maybe the green would be hard, but you could definitely do the softer pinky purple over

here.

You might be able to get away with this color right here too.

Not sure about the yellow.

I wouldn't try the blue because blue is just normally not considered office appropriate

for a conservative environment.

What do you think?

Please be sure to let me know in the comments below.

Talking About Love in English ❤️ | Advanced Conversation and Listening Practice | Love Idioms - Duration: 20:16.

Hello everybody! This is Jack from

tofluency.com, and we are back with

another conversation that is going to

help you learn real English. Now, today

we're going to talk about Valentine´s Day

and romance.

Yeah! Valentine's Day and romance because

we are filming this February. Now, be sure

to check out the description because

I'll leave a list of the different phrases

and vocabulary that we use in this

lesson, and we're going to try to speak

at more or less our normal speed and

this will give you great listening

practice. So, Valentine's Day can you tell

everyone what Valentine's Day is?

Valentine's Day is February 14 of every year.

It's a holiday which is supposed to

celebrate romantic love, so the love

between two partners, and it's a

holiday where there's sometimes a lot of

pressure to do things in a certain way

but it can also be quite fun, and as

we were talking about it, we realized that

we had a lot of memories of Valentine's Day from

growing up what it was like to

celebrate this holiday, which is really a

romantic holiday in school - when you're child.

Yeah, and we had some good memories and some

bad memories. I think we're only going to

share the good memories, and one of

the big things is, on Valentine's Day, one of the main

that people do is to send and

receive cards, so let's talk about that -

how you did that school in America.

Yes! Absolutely, and so basically the

whole Valentine's Day celebration was

everybody would buy or make cards for

everybody in their class, and usually

attach a little piece of candy, so...

Oh, candy as well... it came with candy.

Of course! Usually, the most popular ones were

Hershey Kisses and Conversation Hearts.

So both of these are types of chocolate?

No! Well, Hersheys

Hershes is, you know what a Conversation Heart is?

Oh, we call that something else.

Is it one of those little round candy,

like, sweet things with some kind of

message on it... YES! What did we call call these?

I'll leave this in the description. It's gonna...

I can't remember but, yeah, we used to have

these as well... Absolutely, and they would

say a little message like: 'Fax me'

which really dates... Fax me? Send me a fax!

Now it would be 'send me a Snap'.

Yeah, it's probably like email me or

Instagram me. I don't know if it would fit in a

little tiny candy... I'm sure they would fit in.

So, you would attach those to

the card and send them to one person, two

people, ten? The rule was really

everybody in the class. Really? we didn't

have that rule. Well, that was when we were

younger.

And then, as you get older, and it's

less typical to give people Valentine's

unless you are in a romantic

relationship with them. Or you like someone, right?

Yeah, or you like them.

I don't remember sending Valentine's Day

cards to everyone in the class, but I do

remember you would send a card to one

person, basically, and you would put from

your secret admirer.

Really? Yeah! So the idea is that you

don't tell people who the card is from.

Right! A lot of times, though, they would

guess who it is, based on your

handwriting,

I remember... because what

you'd do is you'd give the card to a friend to

give it to them or you'd put in their locker,

you'd put on their desk so they that they

don't know who it is, but you could

always write your name, some people did

write their name too.

So Jack... be honest, how many secret admirer

Valentine's Cards did you send? I used to

send one... one every year.

One every year? I think so...

Sometimes, I was in, you know,

"relationship" when I was 12 or 13, so

I would send a card to that person

obviously. But other than that it was, yes,

sometimes I didn't send them.

Sometimes you didn't But most years you did? I think most years I did.

And how often did you sign

your name and how often were you a

secret admirer?

I can't remember. I remember receiving cards from

secret admirers... plural, but

I don't remember sending cards,

sending, you know, "from your secret admirer"

Ever? Never?

I can't really remember doing it. So, you only gave one

special girl a card every year?

I think so. And you signed your name?

Yeah! Because I was in a relationship

Do you think that there was a, because I

remember, especially once you got a

little bit older, there there was a lot of

pressure to be in a relationship for

Valentine's Day. We didn't have that.

I'm pretty sure we didn't have that.

And it was nothing additional. I don't

remember going on, like a date, around

Valentine's Day or making a big deal (our of it)

Maybe we had presents too... I just can't

remember, but, yeah, I know in America

though, dating is big, and this is

something that we didn't really

understand growing up, watching American

TV, and it's what we learned from watching

things like Friends and Dawson's Creek

that dating is big. What is a typical thing

that people do for a date on Valentine's Day?

Well, it depends, ovbviously, on whether

you're 12 or you're in your forties and

anywhere in between.

Let's talk about...

Let's talk about, you know, adults....

Adults? Okay, probably going to a nice

restaurant. That's typical... So, what you would

consider to be kind of a fancy meal,

where you dress up... we have

our baby here, by the way, you may hear her.

She's very excited about us having

this conversation.

She's trying to join in. Sorry, to a restaurant...

Hi Emma!

You go to a restaurant - probably the most

stereotypical romantic cuisines are French

cuisine. French, yeah. Maybe

Italian, and you would have a fancy

meal with your loved one. Right! And I imagine

things are... it's very difficult to get

into restaurants on Valentine's Day...

Absolutely! I think you have plan in advance.

Yeah! Book in advance, planning in

advance, and you know, take initiative and

say: "Okay, we're going to go to this

restaurant. We're gonna book it in early

January. We're going to go on Valentine's Day...

I think it's different once

you get married, but I know during the

dating stage

there's a lot of pressure on the

male in the relationship, if it's a

male-female relationship to book the

restaurant and get the flowers.

Yeah, it's a lot of pressure.

A lot of pressure, but yet feel like it's generally not the men

who care as much about Valentine's Day.

Typically not... Yeah...

But they... Yeah, I feel like they've got the

pressure to do it and the woman expects

something. Generally, you know now... traditionally

Jewelry, chocolates, perfume.

I wouldn't get perfume.

Yeah, it's a little personal but I mean

I think that people do get it.

I think chocolate is always safe for me

in case you're

wondering. I always love chocolate

and of course, jewelry... By the way, I'm just

kidding, there is no presure on Jack.

No pressure at all. I don't feel any pressure. I've got

a question, though, about dating and

relationships. If you say you're

dating someone, are you in a relationship?

That's a good question. I feel like there's...

you're dating someone in general, you're

in a relationship when you have that

conversation where you say that you want

to be exclusive... So

you won't date other people.

Ok so when you... you can go on a first

date with somebody...

And then if you go on a second and third

day, that's when you would start having a

conversation about: Ok are we in a

relationship?

Yes! and I know like with us, we were...

I.. we can't explain it.

We were traveling around the

world, but we did have that

conversation (We did), and after that, we

were in a relationship.

We were in a long-distance relationship because we weren't in the

same place, so we actually started in a

long-distance relationship and I feel we

you know spend time together in the same city,

It's kind of interesting... But we met each other in person

Which is not always the case now.

Well that's it because things have changed.

In the past, let's go back 20

years, you would have to approach

somebody and ask them the question

directly,

either, meeting someone at a bar, meeting someone through a friend, at a

party, but now obviously online dating

is a big thing. I think online dating

is the way people meet their their husbands

and wives now.

Definitely... It's a huge change. It really is.

It's just, erm, changed the way that people

date and start relationships. Have you

ever online dated? I have online dated.

When it wasn't very popular or

common, I think it was in 2005,

2005-2006. I used to... well, I put my profile up there and

you know contacted

people, went on a few dates, you know. It was fun.

What information about your

profile? So, if I had been looking on

your online profile, what would I see? You would

see a very young version of me with

information about the music that I like.

I was really into music back then.

I think I talked about that...

What bands did you put on your profile?

Bob Dylan, New Young, Artic Monkeys... they're they three that I always remember...

And then, erm, I

think it there was like different questions that

you could ask and answer. And I can't, really, sorry,

I can't remember what I had on that to be honest.

"You can't remember:" I... I choose not to remember

Choose not to remember... But based on your

music profile, I think I would have

wanted to go on a date with you.

Well, I think music is one of the

big things that people ask about first, you know,

What kind of music do you like?

But, yeah, online dating.. it was fun, it worked, you know,

it was okay. I met some people but obviously

I didn't get into any relationships from it.

And then I went travelling and, then, I met Kate

so, yeah. I want to talk

about a date nights because a lot of

people are thinking about having a date

night for Valentine's Day and what some are

typical date nights in America? We're

back

with Emma! Kate, you were just saying

Date night! Date night, and what kind of things that

people do when they go on a date.

Let's just talk about someone who is in

a relationship or someone who is

married... What kind of things do

people like to do? I think that probably

some of the most popular things to do

are to go see entertainment, whether that's a

movie in the cinema or a live band...

Right! So, to go to a live show, to go to

the cinema, the theatre, maybe...

Or to go out for a meal

Yeah, they're the two main things really.

Or bowling? That's an old style date...

That's an old style date

Which is, it was very popular, I guess in the eighties,

Is that right, seventies, eighties...

To go bowling

I think about Greece. Is it Greece One

that they go bowling?

I'm trying to remember - one of the Greases

they do go bowling.

Yeah, anyway, that's what i have in

my head when I'm thinking about, you know, going

bowling. So is that your ideal date?

Bowling? No. What is your

ideal date? My ideal date, I think it would be - what I

really liked about Spain was when you

could just go to a few bars and get a

little something to eat and a little

tiny bit of wine and go somewhere else

and you experience different

atmospheres and it feels like you're

going on an adventure instead of going

to one place and just sitting down for a

big meal, I like to be out and about and

to go to small bars, to stand up, to go

outside, you know, because then it feels like

you've got some movement there, and you

can talk about different things, you know.

That's what I enjoy doing.

We have talked about doing that here

Yes! But we have just never got around to it

Not for a long time...

Well since we've had children, really,

to go bar-hopping as it's called or you know,

restaurant hopping. Yes, it's really fun

to do that, I fell.

What about yourself?

What my ideal date is?

I think (WITH ME!)... Obviously,

First of all, you are the main ingredient in my ideal

date. I think so. Yes, you are.

It would be... Probably to go somewhere outside

if we're considering this as a long date so maybe

to go on a hike or something like that

and then to just get a really casual meal

and maybe see some live music

Yeah, live music I think that's fun.

To go to a concert

So, you've got that sense of going to a couple of

places and movement too.

I just feel like if you're sitting

down at the same restaurant for 2 or 3 hours

it can get a little bit boring and, you

know, it's good to have like different

experiences and move around a lot

or just delicious

I like going to restaurants too but I think

that when we think about, you know, what's the

the perfect date,

that's more you want to do

something a little bit more exciting.

Sometimes, we are restricted for time so

we have to, you know, "okay, we've got an hour and a half -

go to the restaurant" you know, order quickly

absolutely, especially, with an infant

Yeah - I thought I could end with some

love idioms that we can share, we can

have a quick conversation about each one.

I've got three. The first one is soulmate.

Do you believe in soul mates?

I would say that I didn't

believe in soulmates but then I know

this is going to sound so cheesy but you

kind of made me believe in soulmates

because we just connected so immediately

and it was such a coincidence that we

even met. We were from different

continents. We weren't even supposed

to be in the same place at the same time

and we were and we met and we've made a life out of that.

That's a great answer. Do you

believe in soulmates? Not really I know

I'm sorry I haven't really

thought too much about it and you know

and really got into depth with it but

I'm, I feel it's more like: there a certain

amount of people that you're compatible

with ok and if you meet that person then

you have to take advantage of it,

you know, and make it work. Do you believe

in the phrase: "Opposites attract"? Yes, I think

I do

Do you think we were opposites? In some

ways, I mean, yeah there's a big

difference... Different countries and,

there are some things.

And the idea of a soulmate

is that one person only one person.

Actually when just after I met you

and you didn't meet this guy - a guy called Paul

who stayed at the same hostel as us.

He was a mathematician and he takled

about - he worked out that there's I think

it was 1 in 100,000 women who would be

suitable for him.

Wow! And that he would have to

meet so many people and go to

specific places to increase the odds of

meeting one of those people. He got married

recently. Was he the kind of person

that would have a lot of

I don't know, requirements to be.... he was very

picky? Well, yes, from what I remember.

yeah really nice guy, though. I've got another one.

To have a crush on someone -

Can you explain what that means? To have a

crush on someone. That's a good one.

To have a crush on someone is to like them romantically

yeah but a lot of times it's a

secret crush. And it's before you really

get into it, you can't say I have a crush

on getting my wife or my husband. It's

like when you're not in a relationship

with someone and you know... You like them

so we always used to say: like someone

like but when you say it in a certain way like ...

You like someone. And you can also say: Do you

like like that person? Yes we used to

say that too! Do you like like them

or just like them? So, to like

like someone means you have a

crush on someone. I really like that, and

then the final one. To go on a

blind date.

Oh, yeah. What can you explain what that means?

So a blind date is when you meet

someone to go on a date and you have

never seen them before in your life.

So, it's somebody that a friend of a

friend has set you up with or maybe

you met them online and you don't know

kind of what they look like you've never

met them in person and

so that's a blind date. I've never

ever been on a blind date. I have never been on a blind date.

Good, I feel like a good

question to ask everyone is, the soul

mate question... Do you want to ask it?

I want you to ask the questions in

these videos. I know, I like asking you questions,

I feel like you have to answer me too when

the camera's on. Okay! So, do you believe in

soulmates? That there is just one person

out there who is meant to be for you?

It is a great question and

feel free to expand on your answer and

let us know if you have any questions

about the words and phrases we used here.

We've got a lot of things here, you know

to send cards, to get cards, secret

admirers, to go on a date, date night -

didn't talk about needing a babysitter...

Soulmates, have a

crush on someone and to go on a blind.

And once again I'll leave the vocabulary in

the description so you can read this and

learn the words and phrases that we both

used in this conversation. So, thank you

very much for watching and we'll see you

in the next lesson.

Thank you! Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day! Bye Bye!

Scared to get a job (social anxiety) - Duration: 6:39.

Hi!

Today I'm gonna talk about a bit of a sensitive subject

so I'm gonna record the talking part of the video

in here in my old room in my mother's house

because in here, no one can hear me scream, or cry...

So, I know some of you have probably asked yourself

'if she can't interact with other people,

does she not have a job?'

No.

No, she doesn't.

I'm getting the money to survive from the state of Germany

and I'm very grateful for that

and incredibly lucky to be born here.

But of course I'm not happy about my situation.

Being unemployed is not like an extended vacation.

I don't have work stress, but well,

mental health issues mean

that I am constantly stressed and can't relax.

Ever.

And then there's the pressure to get a job.

There's the external pressure from the job center,

understandably,

but also from society as a whole.

I don't even mean that the common taxpayer

probably wants me to do my part,

but, also...

everytime I meet someone new,

the first question after "What's your name"

is "What do you do for a living?"

Our jobs are so intertwined with our identity,

I feel like I'm lacking this huge part.

How I react to that external pressure

of course defines my internal pressure

and thankfully that part is entirely up to me.

But even if I took all of the aforementioned stuff

out of the equation,

I want to get a job,

I want to be able to support myself.

I hate being dependent.

So why don't I change my situation?

I have tried

and I'm still trying.

In my first job I was a web developer - nerd alert -

and because of my blossoming social anxiety

I barely spoke to anyone

and I dreaded going into work,

I frequently cried on the commute.

And when that job ended, for reasons beyond my control,

I didn't send out a single application

because I was deathly afraid of the job interviews,

mainly of being judged as a human being

because I thought I was a complete failure on all levels.

Cue depression.

The first few years of the depression

I tried to "pull myself together".

I worked as a temp just to earn some money.

And it was pure agony.

It started with the constant fear of

someone attempting small talk in the copy room,

and culminated in a full blown anxiety attack

after my boss criticized my work.

I stopped working and went into therapy.

Since I've been getting better,

my job center has put me into a few work programs

specifically designed for people with mental health issues,

and I was always very open and hopeful about them,

at the start,

not so much at the premature end

when I just couldn't handle the stress anymore.

With the help of therapy,

the depression is mostly behind me

but the social anxiety is still alive and well.

And now I'm gonna tackle that one specifically.

I've never done cognitive behavioural therapy

so that's what I wanna do next.

I'm currently on a waiting list, but when that starts

I'm gonna tell you all about it.

Once again thank you for listening

and I hope this video helps someone out there

with similar problems

just knowing you're not alone

and there are ways to get better.

Always.

Bye!

The Hindenburg Line - Ludendorff's Defence In Depth I THE GREAT WAR Special - Duration: 8:07.

It was one of the most unusual moves of this unusual war, and in some ways you could call

it the boldest.

It happened in early 1917 when the Germans on the Western Front turned their backs on

the ground they had soaked with their blood for over two years and established a new line

of defense, the Hindenburg Line.

I'm Indy Neidell; welcome to a Great War special episode about the Hindenburg Line,

also known as the Siegfried Line.

On February 24th, 1917, something remarkable happened that was very strange to the British

troops who reported it.

The German lines opposite them were being shelled.

But by German artillery.

Scouting parties were sent out and they found something even weirder - the German trenches

were abandoned.

It was obvious that the shelling was meant to destroy what the Germans had left behind.

The Germans were pulling back.

It wasn't really apparent to the Allies what the extent of this was, but over a period

of a few weeks the Germans withdrew 20 miles - 32 kilometers - on a front 70 miles wide-

116 kilometers - between Arras and St. Quentin.

This meant giving up 1,000 square miles of hard won French land.

This withdrawal was German Quartermaster General Erich Ludendorff's idea, and it was very

risky.

If the British and French had attacked while the Germans were leaving their old positions

and before they settled into the new ones, disaster would have been the result.

It was also a task of enormous magnitude not just to move to new lines, but ones that were

far stronger than the old ones.

370,000 men worked for four months to build the new defenses.

They were German reserves and civilians and Russian prisoners of war, and they dug trenches

and underground chambers for hiding men and equipment, fortifications of concrete and

steel, and enormous wire barricades.

1,200 trains brought in materials put together by a further 170,000 workers.

And except for that artillery barrage at Arras, it was pretty much all done in secret.

Ludendorff had decided to build it after visiting the Western Front in the aftermath of Verdun

and the Somme.

He thought that too much of Germany's diminishing manpower was being wasted in defensive doctrines

that needed to be scrapped.

He would later write (A World Undone), "The decision to retreat was not reached without

a painful struggle.

It implied a confession of weakness bound to raise the morale of the enemy and lower

our own... we had no choice."

But if it could be pulled off there would be great benefits.

The current front ran from Arras to Soissons and the region called Chemin des Dames was

a huge 90 mile bulge - 150 kilometers.

The new line would be 25 miles - 40km - shorter and it would free 13 divisions and 50 artillery

batteries for other uses.

This was the big thing, because the German manpower situation had been serious for a

while now.

At the beginning of 1917, the Germans had two and a half million men on the Western

Front in 134 divisions.

But the Entente had nearly four million men facing them in 175 divisions, and that number

would only grow as the British army continued to expand, so every month seemed to bring

greater danger that Germany would become mathematically overwhelmed.

A new line would also allow Ludendorff to build from scratch his ideal defenses.

What he planned was not really a front line in any traditional sense.

It wouldn't even be continuous, but would feature a series of mutually supporting camouflaged

steel and concrete blockhouses in a sort of checkered pattern manned by machine gun crews.

Where it was possible, these were positioned on the front slopes of hills to look down

on the enemy.

They were shielded by high rows of razor wire designed to funnel an advancing enemy into

lethal passages.

The men there were not supposed to stand their ground if the enemy arrived.

They were to fall back after slowing the advance as much as they could.

They new system was far more flexible than the old way of troops massed in the forward

trenches and would ideally be far less costly in lives.

The first actual defensive line in the new system was way to the rear, up to a mile from

the blockhouses and beyond the reach of enemy mortars and light artillery.

Another line was another mile further back, and the reserves were even further back than

that, out of the reach of most enemy artillery, but ready to quickly counterattack.

So this elastic defense network was designed to lead the enemy into a killing zone several

miles deep where the reserves were not really reserves anymore, but a strike force of their

own.

Thing is, this all looked great on paper but had that one enormous risk - that the Allies

would launch an offensive that would catch the Germans halfway between the old and the

new.

They were certain to launch such an offensive soon, possibly as soon as February, and the

risk seemed so great that Ludendorff wasn't going through with the plan.

Until fate intervened.

As February began, the Germans intercepted and decoded a message from Rome to Petrograd.

The news wasn't that surprising.

The British and French were planning an attack on the Western Front, another colossal offensive,

even bigger this time than the Battle of the Somme using up to 100 divisions.

There was also some really good news for the Germans, though - the attack would not begin

until April, two months or more in the future.

The Germans would have time to build the new lines.

They would have time to train the men in how the new system worked.

On February 4th, 1917, Erich Ludendorff ordered the work to begin.

The new system did actually begin with a trench, but one 3 meters deep and 4 meters across.

This was to be unoccupied and was a trap for tanks and a huge obstacle for men.

Behind that were at least five rows of barbed wire, 4 meters deep and twice a man's height,

and 20 meters apart from each other.

Then came the blockhouses and then the first real line, a mostly underground anthill of

rooms and passages under up to 8 meters of earth, designed to be impregnable to artillery.

Two lines of big guns were further back, on reverse slopes wherever possible, to be out

of sight of enemy artillery.

This was to be invulnerable, and it was made possible by the fact that the Allies wouldn't

attack in the west until April, and the Germans knew it.

French Commander Robert Nivelle had actually planned on a February attack.

British Commander Sir Douglas Haig wanted to wait until May, so they compromised and

set the date for April.

That raises a big what if, of course, since the new lines couldn't have been built had

the Allies attacked sooner, but built they were and they took defensive warfare to a

new level, and they were the work of a single man of great vision, ambition, and energy,

Erich Ludendorff.
