Hello everyone, I hope you are well !
Today a video a little special. In fact, I would like to answer your questions.
There was a lot, so I will try to go around.
The first, where am I now? In fact I am in India. I am in Kota in Rajasthan.
And yes the videos coming out right now on the chain are between 2 and 3 months late.
I am sorry. In fact at the beginning of my tour of world, I shot almost a video a day.
And then I needed between 4 days and a week to to make the assembly. So I quickly fell behind.
But do not worry, it happens! "Is does not it scare you too much to travel alone? "
If completely! But I think that already traveling it's all about getting out of your comfort zone.
So obviously it's scary. And in addition to travel alone, well it's doubly scary!
Because we do not have this person to rest on, or those people you can depend on.
So we are completely left to ourselves.
But at the same time it is an incredible experience.
And even more when you're alone, because I think we are much more open
to what we live, what we see, what we feel, the people we meet.
So really if you have the opportunity, I advise you with closed eyes to travel alone.
It's an amazing experience. And me it really changed my life! Just that.
And to clarify, I do not remember if I had it mentioned but at the very beginning of my trip
I was with my cousin and her husband. So I was not alone.
And I detached myself from them gradually. For then take off and travel really alone.
And suddenly it was really cool to be able to take my marks
and put myself to travel alone so progressive and smooth.
So it was really nice to be with them.
And that will allow me to follow on next question.
"In countries where the status of women is not not very recognized sometimes, is it easy?
Because we look with my wife your vlogs and we think you have courage. "
So thanks.
And yes indeed there are countries where it is easier that others. I must admit it.
And so I was talking about my cousin.
In fact I was with her and her husband at the beginning from my trip to eastern Turkey.
And I did not realize it right away, but she really shocked it.
In some stores or in some restaurants, servers or vendors
only addressed the husband of my cousin. Olivier. I'll say the names, it'll be easier.
They only spoke to Olivier, therefore to the representative of the male gente.
And we were completely part of the decor.
And it's true that after I realized it and it really shocked me.
It's something I've never experienced before.
To tell me in fact I am a woman so we do not speak to you.
I am not the person who decides.
And it's true that it's really confusing.
And for once it's something that I did not live in Istanbul at all.
Like what it really depends on the regions, it really depends also on the people we meet.
I will try not to do especially generalities in this video.
Because of course it's my experience, my feeling.
And maybe someone who will go in the same place at a different time,
or who will meet other people, will have a completely different feeling.
Here.
Then when I was in Israel ... it is a very developed country.
And so on the question of equality between men and women
I did not feel any problem at all. I really felt like in France.
After in France there are also problems. It's not something acquired huh!
So there are problems everywhere but let's say I felt really safe
and really respected.
In Jordan, it was not exactly the same thing.
I had rather bad experiences. I had especially ... the first day when I set foot in Jordan,
I arrived by Aqaba so the city that is all the way south, far south of Jordan.
And I was the only tourist.
I was the only tourist, and in addition woman, and alone, to walk in the street.
And I had all eyes on me.
And already that was something quite new to me,
to really be the target of all eyes, of all the attentions.
And in addition it was not necessarily friendly looks or curiosity, sometimes it was looks ...
a lot in the judgment. So I felt bad enough.
My first experience in Jordan was bad enough
After I had incredible ones, do not worry.
But it is true that at the level of the ratio Male / Woman, I had some bad experiences.
I had some bad encounters.
And some men who made me understand that I was not in my place and that ...
some times for example going out at night, I was the only woman out at night.
So that was not necessarily obvious.
And sometimes I had a look ... being a woman I did not wear the veil.
In addition I have short hair, I have white skin.
That was not necessarily obvious.
There are people with whom it was extremely well.
And others with whom it went extremely wrong.
But it's true that overall in Jordan I felt much less safe
and strangely the place where I felt least safe was in the capital, Amman
which is however very developed which is nevertheless very rich and where I made excellent meetings
and also excellent bad meetings
and where I had the most problems and where I was most annoyed
but that I tell you about it in the video of Amman so unfortunately you will have to wait
for me to tell you these anecdotes I do not want to spoil you.
Traveling alone, there are also things we learn and advice we hear
and whether we apply or not, for example, I was told
"try to wear a false alliance" so what I do and what came out of certain situations
so I would recommend it especially if you are a single woman and do not worry
you will be asked regularly: "Are you married, do you have a boyfriend?"
but especially: "Are you married, do you have children?"
and it often came out of situations of being able to say "Yes, look I'm married, my husband is in France ...
"... he's waiting for me." or even sometimes "My husband is at the hotel and I have to hurry back."
I think that sometimes I could have been in very annoying situations if it had not been the case
so I would recommend following this recommendation
even if it's wrong, even if it forces you to lie, it can help you.
"Have you planned to meet some acquaintances on the way?"
So I started my journey with - as I told you - my cousin and her husband, so Floriane and Olivier
then when I was in Tel Aviv I found my dad with whom I discovered Jerusalem
we stayed four days together if I remember correctly. Then much later
when I arrived in Delhi, I spent a week with my friend Samuel
who joined me in India for a few days to spend together and discover India together
and then he went back to France because
he has studies to finish and I continued on my side. So apart from that I was completely alone
but I met people and I shared times
evenings, days, and times more than that I've done travel tips
with the people I met on the spot, sometimes I even stayed in families,
so in fact I did not stay completely alone for so long
and that's also why I like the solo trip because it makes it possible to meet people and
share those moments with people we meet on the way.
"How is communication going in the countries you have visited? Have you had any interesting meetings?
despite the language barrier? "(Mince I already started to answer, suddenly.)
Communication, it goes extremely well especially when we speak English well
which - I believe - is my case, in any case I always manage to get by.
I sometimes mix sign language with English and, in fact, with facial expressions,
Sign language, context, and a bit of English we still do.
Even when you do not have a great level, you really do not have to be scared. I know there are some
who do not dare to travel to the countries, when they do not know the local language,
or when they do not speak English well enough, but we always manage to make themselves understood.
Even just the basics: "sleep", "eat", "drink", it's good you will survive.
And then there is something that helps me a lot, I have an app on my phone
"Google Translate" that works, you can download, in fact, the languages
and so it works even without having wifi, without internet, and it saved me some times
it even allowed me to have conversations with people who did not speak a single word of English
I even had an absolutely crazy conversation with one of the girls in the family where
I was sleeping in Jordan. It was one of my best experiences,
it was really amazing and it was even magical.
So here, I advise you to install this app and learn some words of the local language
sometimes just "Hello", "Good evening", "Goodbye", "Thank you", "Please"
and there is one that always serves me a lot and that we do not necessarily think it's "beautiful"
or "gorgeous" or the equivalent of "amazing", something like that if you learn to say it,
in the country, it will allow you to simply say I love the country, I like this place,
I love this city, I like to eat that.
"What are the most surprising dishes you have eaten for now?"
So, in Turkey, I ate very well, there was not much choice for vegetarians,
but it was very good. In Israel I farted the bide, the local dishes are incredible
I ate some fabulous hummus, I ate falafels I ate
everything, pretty much everything you can find on site and it was all extremely good.
And it's really very easy to eat vegetarian and vegan, really, vegans, go ahead Israel is life.
In India, it's really complicated, for once, most, sorry, 99% of dishes are spicy, so
if you have a stomach well hung, it's ok, but then mine, I can tell you that it is suffering!
And especially what is very complicated in India is water, because it is important not to drink tap water
and especially not eating foods that have been cleaned with running water, unsafe water.
You have to be very careful about everything you eat, everything you drink, and everything you eat.
It's really not easy. The few times I ate healthy, non-spicy food it was just
wonderfully good, but, you have to find. And where I am right now, I'm staying with a family
of Indians, who are part of the Rajput caste, so they are, we will say, at the top of the social ladder in India
and for once they cook divinely well, they cook a non-spicy food and completely healthy
they use treated and potable water.
So it's paradise. I think I will stay a few days and enjoy. Here.
"Is veganism in all these countries hard?" Ah, thin and suddenly I answered a little bit too.
In some countries, it was very easy, such as Israel, which has a range of vegetarian choices
and vegans completely delusional, then in other countries like Jordan it was much less obvious
to find dishes without meat, to find dishes without milk, to find dishes without eggs,
and I made a lot of gaps. Also, I was in a family in the desert that hosted me
so I could only accept what they gave me to eat. It seemed really inappropriate to refuse
what they gave me to eat, and even I tried to explain to them but it was really complicated
So here I was non-vegetarian for two weeks, I made a lot of discrepancies
I was after that, but I caught up with it. And in India, on the vegetarian level,
it's happiness, because almost everyone, almost everyone eats vegetarian.
I very very rarely find meat even on the menu, so to tell you ... it's "relax"
"Are you totally organized in your trip or are you leaving something unexpected?"
"How long did it take to get it ready, how long did you go?"
So "how long?" I have no idea, because it does not depend entirely on me
so, we'll see. All I can tell you is that I spent a month in Turkey, a month in Israel,
a month in Jordan, two weeks in Cyprus, and I left to stay six months in India,
but I'm sure of nothing, we'll see.
Then at the level of preparation, I have absolutely NOTHING prepared in advance.
I use an application called MAPS.ME which is a bit like Google Map but much better
because I have not only the roads, but also all the hiking trails, and in addition to that
I have most hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, etc.
so it allows me to spot a little in advance the hotels that are well placed in the city center
and that are not too expensive. I can even check as soon as I have internet if this place has good grades,
good comments, and in addition to that I have a special application called "Hostelworld",
which allows me to see all the hostels, the comments, if they are well located or not,
and have pictures of the places to be able to have a preview. And then what I'm doing is I'm coming
directly on the spot, I ask if a bed is still free, or a room is still available,
I visit the room, I say yes or no according to that and according to the prices also because in general
I go to the cheapest places, and that's it. I know it's something that is not necessarily
reassuring not to know where we will sleep the same evening, but it allows to follow completely
his desires for the day, opportunities that arise from the people we meet.
I know there are times when I completely upset what I wanted,
what I had planned to do, because someone told me "I'm going to this place, do you want ...
... to accompany me? "and I could, I had the opportunity, I had this freedom to be able to say" yes "
so it opens up a lot of possibilities, but it sure is not at all reassuring
so if it's something that does not fit, do not force yourself, especially not.
"Why did you want to go on this trip?"
So ... it's something that I always - in fact - wanted to do. My parents gave me
the taste of travel when I was very small. I think the first time I flew
I had to be 3 years old, and my father, in fact, with his job, he had the opportunity to travel
for really cheap and take us with him, so like that I visited Egypt,
Tunisia, Turkey, Spain, England with my school, Greece ...
I think that's all. I think I would have gone around.
But suddenly, it's true that it really gave me the taste of travel and today I will have a hard time stopping.
And going around the world is something that has always made me dream, so in fact, when in my life,
the planets lined up, I did not think very long, I jumped on the occasion and I left ...
Here.
So, the question you put to me en masse, it's "How much budget should we foresee?"
"How do you finance your world tour?" "How do you manage to finance this trip?"
So, there are several answers to this question. I will try to be short.
The first is that I have "pre-inherited" my grandparents, who are still alive and who
gave us, therefore, small children and children, some of this money to allow us
to provide for our needs, and to carry out our projects, as I am doing now, which allows me to
do not stress too much financially, but beside that, I make the most savings possible.
What really costs me is the plane tickets, but luckily I go to a site called
"KAYAK", like kayaking, and it helps to find plane tickets really really cheap,
so it saves me money. Then next to that, I hitchhike, which allowed me
save transportation. I did couchsurfing, which saved me the hotel, but also
hostels, workaway, and sometimes I have been hosted by families, so allowing
also to make a lot of savings. If you do not know the workaway, it's a great site,
on the other hand it has about 30 euros to register so you have to make it profitable,
but then the principle is that you work on the spot, and in exchange you have at least
the free bed, but also sometimes the food, so "fed lodged whitened" ... but the best experience I had
it's being hosted by families, but for that, I think, you need a certain openness
and be able to say "yes" to opportunities and know who to trust, which is not always easy.
I especially had a lot of luck on the subject, but at the same time, when we travel it is also
the way to meet people, with a huge heart "like that" and who are ready to welcome you
at home, and to trust you. So it's also one of the best - for me - aspects of the trip.
Hitchhiking, sometimes, and in some places, it can be moderately secure,
moderately safe, so if you do not feel it, do not force yourself. Me it allowed me to do
excellent matches, but it's also one of the ways to make the most
so I do not really have any recommendations on the subject. I know that in Israel it was 99% of the time,
very well, but I still had a very bad meeting ...
In Jordan, it allowed me to meet the person who then hosted me at home for 2 weeks
In his family. Then of course, the big difference is going to be the choice of the country,
because, for example, Israel is a very expensive country.
Life there is quite expensive, hotels are expensive, food is expensive, so it's a place I've been to
only in youth hostels, and where I did almost nothing but stop because
It's VERY fast in fact, when we stay several days in one place. We spend a lot of money quickly,
Jordan, on the other hand, has cost me very little, and India is completely delirious.
You can eat for one or two euros a day and sleep for not much more,
in very good hotels and more. So it's really crazy and all that, it really depends on your route,
the time you stay, people you meet, and also your comfort level, because I know that
we do not all have the same limits, and we do not all have the same needs. There are certain things that,
I accept completely, and others that are really limited, for example, in Turkey, my big fat fear
it was falling on a hotel where there was no hot water, knowing that it was very very cold
and we wandered in the snow all day, so get back to take a hot shower
it was the vital minimum for me. In India, for example, the fact of not having
of toilet paper, not to flush the toilet and to have cold water,
good at the same time it is 42 ° C, it's not a problem at all, it's something that, me,
do not bother me, or for example not having clean sheets under you and having just,
for example, finally, just the mattress and a comforter, but no clean sheets that smells good laundry
it was something I did not accept at the beginning of my trip and that really shocked me
and now it's something completely normal and does not bother me at all.
So, that really depends on you, your needs, your limits and I think
it's important to know them, and to know what you can accept or not in terms of comfort.
And of that, will actually depend on your budget so I can not exactly tell you,
I can tell you for me, but it will depend mostly on you.
That's it, I think I answered most of your questions, if you have any left, I invite you
completely to ask them, in comment, for perhaps another video FAQ, a number 2.
With that, I wish you a great day - or evening - and then I'll see you soon - Ciao!
