North Korea cancels high-level inter-Korean talks, citing S. Korea-U.S. joint drills - Duration: 3:46.

Just ten hours before today's scheduled talks with South Korea,... North Korea pulled out

of the high-level inter-Korean meeting,... citing Seoul's ongoing military exercises

with the U.S. as the reason for the abrupt cancellation.

It's in stark contrast to what the regime has been saying in regards to joint military

exercises in recent weeks,... when it seemed to be.... more understanding.

Watching this rapid and unexpected shift in mood on the Korean peninsula,... is our Unification

Ministry correspondent Oh Jung-hee who is on the line for us.

Jung-hee, it looks like North Korea might be going back to its tried and tested bargaining

tactics?

Ji-yoon, I first have to tell you that North Korea's

foreign affairs ministry issued a statement roughly 30 minutes ago and declared that it

will have to reconsider holding summit talks with the U.S.

The North is saying it's skeptical about whether Washington is willing to solve the nuclear

issue through dialogue and negotiation... citing recent remarks from the Trump administration

about dismantlement of not only nuclear weapons but also missiles and biological, chemical

weapons.

I will make sure to have more details on this for our next newscast.

Let's go back to the cancellation statement from the North last night.

Not only did the North notify South Korea of the cancellation via the inter-Korean contact

channel... but Pyongyang also posted a lengthy statement through its state media.

It explained it could not help but call off today's high-level talks, specifically because

of the Max Thunder exercise -- a combined air force drill between South Korea and the

U.S. that started last Friday.

Saying that the drills are to (quote)"make a preemptive air strike and win the air,"

Pyongyang called the exercise an apparent challenge to the Panmunjom Declaration and

an intentional military provocation.

The North stated that South Korea is breaking the two Koreas' promise to lower military

tensions... and therefore, Seoul is to blame for the cancellation.

Pyongyang warned the improvement in inter-Korean relations and its dialogue momentum with the

U.S. doesn't mean Seoul and Washington can hold their combined drills anytime.

What's worrisome is that Pyongyang even left open the possibility of cancelling its summit

with the U.S.,... saying Washington will have to consider the fate of their summit as well.

A complete shift in tone from North Korea indeed,... and what are we hearing from the

South Korean government?

Yes, the government issued an official response this morning.

Take a look at what Seoul's unification ministry spokesperson had to say:

"North Korea made a unilateral decision to postpone the high-level talks right after

notifying us of the date, citing our regular joint Air Force drills with the U.S.

We express regret as this action does not correspond to the fundamental principles and

objectives of the Panmunjom Declaration."

Adding that Seoul still dedicated to fully carrying out the summit agreement, the government

urged the North to quickly respond for its call for talks.

South Korea stressed that dialogue has to continue anyway to discuss the issues Pyongyang

is raising now.

Seoul says it plans to send a message to North Korea today, though what it will say remains

to be seen.

According to the ministry, during the groundwork for today's now-canceled high-level talks,

the North did not raise any objections to the Max Thunder exercise or the Seoul-Washington

drills in general.

On his way to work this morning, South Korea's Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon told

reporters... that he doesn't believe the North's move poses fundamental difficulties in implementing

the Panmunjom Declaration.

He added... everything is in the early stages and different circumstances can present themselves...

so it's important for the two Koreas to stay consistent.

Some people just don't want help, and it's a foreign concept to most of us because,

you know, if you're somebody that develops yourself and you look at things and

you say, "There's an obvious answer here. It's an obvious choice what you should

Gareth Southgate is quietly going about dismantling his Mr Nice Guy image. Quiet, unassuming and modest he might be, but we are quickly learning that the England manager has backbone

The phasing out of Wayne Rooney from the international fold took genuine bottle

Southgate didn't shirk it. And over the past 48 hours, Southgate has once more proved he's not a man to shy away when a decision is there to be made — crushing the World Cup dreams of two of the country's high-profile players with cold-blooded phone calls

On Monday night, Southgate picked up his mobile and tapped the contacts button, before scrolling down to Joe Hart's name

Hart was under the impression that he'd be going to Russia, Southgate had said as much after the previous international break

But in the phone call, Southgate explained to England's current most-capped player that his services are not required

While Southgate is in charge, Hart looks firmly in the international wilderness. No thought of reputation, no thought that between them Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Nick Pope have won only nine international caps

It was ruthless from Southgate and Hart is devastated, although he is said to have taken the manager's call very respectfully on Monday night

Southgate wasn't finished there, either. On Tuesday morning, he again reached for his phone

Who was on the receiving end this time? The England boss ran his finger down the screen until Jack Wilshere's name appeared

For the Arsenal man, there wasn't quite the same sense of shock. Wilshere was probably expecting the phone call ever since pulling out of the squad to face Holland and Italy in March

Southgate and his staff have reservations about how Wilshere's body, given his history of injury, would stand up to the rigours of tournament football

In Wilshere's defence, the midfielder made 38 appearances for Arsenal last season

He looks to be over the injuries that have blighted his career so far. And at the age of 26, he has time to revive his international career

As for 31-year-old Hart, though, you have to wonder if we've seen the last of him in an England shirt

He has been a great servant and has 75 caps. But his performances have plummeted during his loan spell at West Ham this season

The fact that he was dropped by David Moyes in place of Adrian midway through the season didn't help his confidence

And now, at least under Southgate, there looks to be no way back. Time will tell whether dumping Hart and Wilshere is the right call

But it is a brave one. Taking the experienced pair would have been the easier option

Hart's omission means there will not be a survivor from the 2010 World Cup when Southgate names his 23-man party for Russia on Tuesday

Indeed, it will be the first time England have picked a completely different squad from that of a World Cup eight years earlier

His decision to select midfielder Fabian Delph, who doubles up as a left back in the squad, could allow him to select one less defender, in turn allowing him to pick more attackers — as does Eric Dier's ability to play at centre back

So expect Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard, Dele Alli, Jamie Vardy, Danny Welbeck and Marcus Rashford to all be on the plane to Russia

That is an exciting prospect. Time will tell, of course, if Southgate has got the balance right

What happens if one or two of his centre backs get injured in Russia? The manager must answer those questions when he speaks publicly about his squad for the first time at Wembley

If you've been watching Jersey Shore Family Vacation then you know that Ronnie Ortiz-Magro's

status as the president for life of the IFF (the esteemed "I'm F-cked Foundation") remains

unchallenged.

It all started when Ronnie cheated on his pregnant girlfriend , Jen Harley, on one of

his first nights in the South Beach house.

Not surprisingly, their relationship hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows in the months

since the notorious "French Fry" incident was filmed.

Just a few weeks ago, Ronnie blasted Jen as a "cum dumpster" and accused her of refusing

to delete sex tapes that she made with her ex.

Shortly thereafter, Ronnie requested a paternity test, having apparently become convinced that

Jen cheated on him in the early days of their relationship.

(Needless to say, Rahn might have been projecting a bit with his suspicions.)

Not exactly the kind of interactions that inspire a lot of optimism for Ron and Jen's

future as a couple.

In fact, there was a time when the Ron and Jen split up was such a done deal that Magro

began dating Scheana Marie of Vanderpump Rules fame.

But now, it looks like Ron has taken a page from Rob Valletta's book and unceremoniously

kicked Scheana to the curb.

And surprisingly, it seems his motivation for ending that relationship was his desire

to get back together with his baby mama.

Over the weekend, Ronnie posted a Mother's Day tribute to Jen on social media.

And today, he further cemented his relationship status by informing his followers that he

and Harley on vacation together, and the trip's been interrupted by illness.

"At our 2nd hospital in 24 hours #MyPeanutsNotFeelingWell," Ron wrote on Snapchat.

"#CaliFamilyBeachTripFail"

Insiders say Ron and Jen are still struggling - but they're intent on making the relationship

work.

"Right now they're just trying to focus on their daughter and make sure she's okay,"

a source tells with E! News.

"They're trying to work things out for her sake. They're giving it a shot.

"His daughter is his biggest priority so he just wants to keep things as calm and civil

with Jen for the baby's sake," the insider adds.

"They both really regret how ugly and public their split was so they're doing everything

they can to keep things private right now."

Here's hoping Ronnie will stay away from hot tubs for the sake of his relationship.
