Ughhh, I just recorded this whole intro, and then I realized, my mic wasn't on.
But anyways, hey everybody!
I'm gonna try to replicate this for a second time!
I have moved to Sydney!
Like, Australia!
I'm really really excited to be here.
It's been a hectic and wild... month?
I think I've been here for like a month now.
In the beginning there was a bunch of getting the apartment setup and like getting furniture
and just getting everything organized, but now things are getting more settled.
Like Fiona has a job which means I get the apartment to myself from like 9-5, so I have
like solid work hours when I have to be getting videos done.
And I'm just so excited to be here and I love this city, and I'm so fortunate to have been
able to move out here, like I know that moving across the world isn't an opportunity that
a lot of people get, and I'm very lucky and fortunate and privileged to have been able
to come out here and I'm just very thankful for that.
And yeah, I don't know a lot of people here yet because I'm brand new, but we're working
on that part.
And I'm starting to exercise some more.
I went running a couple times last week, and my legs have never hurt so much in my life.
But overall this has been like a very positive change for me, and I'm excited to be here,
and I miss my LA friends but I think a lot of good stuff can happen here.
Also my apartment with Fiona is really nice, and I just love the little setup we got going on.
Oh yeah, also, you're in my bedroom right now, that's where we are.
I'm not gonna show you a whole lot of it because I like to have some degree of privacy in my
life, but I'm gonna show you a couple of the other rooms in this video so stay tuned for that.
But real quick before we do that, I just wanted to answer some like frequently asked questions
I get when I tell people I've moved to Australia because I really get all the same questions
over and over again.
So first of all, the accents are still hilarious, every time someone talks to me, I'm just laughing
in my head.
I have not seen a kangaroo yet.
Apparently Sydney is not like wilderness with kangaroos running around everywhere, which
I think sounds fake, but that's how it is.
It's not super hot because Australia's actually going into winter because their seasons are
upside down.
Like, winter is in like June, July, August, so it's starting to get cold here, and I'm
like freezing.
It's only in like the 60s Fahrenheit, but I'm so cold.
Normally, I'm like wearing sweatpants and a sweater in the house.
I got a little heater to put in my study just to keep me warm, and then I know the summer's
gonna come and it's gonna be like sweltering hot, and I'm gonna be complaining about that, so.
Oh and a few people have asked if the water flushes in the toilet bowl the other way around,
and it doesn't, that's not a hemisphere thing, it's just a toilet thing, I'm pretty sure
that's just a huge myth.
I think there's been a Mythbusters on it, but the water goes in the same direction in
all toilet bowls.
Alright, so with that out of the way, let's go check out the living room.
Alright, welcome to our living room.
This is where Fiona and I are most of the time.
We've also started streaming games here, which has been really fun.
I have a Switch and I introduced Fiona to Mario Kart and she is obsessed.
Like I'm not kidding, she makes me play Mario Kart with her like every day.
Like I'll be real tired and I'll be like, "I just wanna sleep."
And she's like, "Just one game of Mario Kart?"
It's so funny and so cute.
But, so we figured we might as well make a Twitch channel and ya'll can hang out with
us while we play Mario Kart.
Also, sometimes we play Odyssey or Breath of the Wild or something if it's just one
of us, but I think most of the time we're gonna try to find games that we can both do
together.
I'll put a link to our Twitch channel down in the description.
It's Twitch.tv/rileyandfiona.
But so I walk so much that it makes a lot of sense to be playing Pokemon GO all the
time, cause it didn't make that much sense in LA when I was like driving everywhere.
But I love it here.
And I've caught like 5,000 Kangaskhans, like they're everywhere.
In the US, it was pretty hard to find Tauros, I only got a few.
In Europe, it was relatively hard to find Mr. Mimes.
And in Australia, there's just Kangaskhan like every three feet.
I don't understand.
But it means my Pokedex is getting really filled out.
I just got Moltres and Zapdos through the Field Research things, so the only one from Gen
1 that I'm missing is Articuno, and Mew, and Mewtwo, which are so difficult to get.
Thank you for sticking around, everywhere, and shoutout to the three people watching
this who still play Pokemon GO.
But yeah, so we've been in the bed room and the living room, so I think next it's time
to show you my study.
Alright, welcome to my study, this is where I get all of my work done, and also probably
where I'll be filming videos.
I'm not super sure about this like super boring plain background, but there's not a whole
lot of like great places to film in this apartment.
That's like one of it's few downsides.
This isn't an apartment tour so I'm not gonna like show you everything in here, but I have
my desk over here, Fiona has a little desk over here, then we got some closets back here.
I really like it, it's a nice little work area, cause I work from home so like I'm here
a lot of the time.
And there's a big bright window behind it which is how I'm filming this.
I actually might want to get some studio lights.
I just don't know where I'd put them.
I just think they'd look so much nicer than natural light, but it's all I got right now
cause I don't have any lights.
I also have a couple of fancy mics over here because this is where Fiona record our podcast.
Yeah, Fiona and I have a podcast now, it's called Gal Pals, we talk about our lives,
we talk about current events, Fiona tries to convince me of a conspiracy theory every week?
And then we also answer like advice and questions from you all.
So I'll link to that down in the description, and you can go subscribe to it on iTunes,
you can send us some questions to answer on the podcast, you can follow us on Twitter.
We're @GalPalsPod on Twitter.
And the main website that we're using for like the home of it is patreon.com/galpals.
We also setup all these Google Homes around our apartment so there's one in the living
room and there's one here.
We had the one in the study, the one that's here, in the bedroom before, but we weren't
using it a lot, and we get a lot more use out of it here.
It's really fun.
Watch this.
Hey Google, who's my girlfriend?
"You told me that your girlfriend's name is Fiona."
That's so cute!
I love it!
Fiona's actually been getting a lot of use out of it which I'm really happy about cause
it was my tech-y idea to make this a Smart Home, but she uses it a lot to play music
and stuff, so I'm glad she likes them.
It's also like she needs sound constantly going on, and so, I think I might've screwed
myself over a little bit in this realm, because now she can tell it to play music constantly
and so there's like always stuff going, and I just need some silence every once in a while.
But overall, I really like them.
They're super convenient.
In the living room, I can just be like, "Hey Google, play this thing."
Oh crap, oh no.
Google, don't do it.
Don't do it!
"Okay, Blank Space by Taylor Swift."
That's not what I wanted!
Nobody wanted that!
Hey Google!
Hey Google!
Stop!
Phew.
That was a close one.
But yeah, so basically, you can say the thing and then tell it to play something on the
TV and it'll just play it.
Like it'll turn on the TV, switch open Netflix, and just do it.
And then you can tell it to pause and turn off the TV and stuff.
It's so easy.
This is not sponsored by Google Home in anyway.
I bought them myself, I'm not getting paid to say this.
I just really like them.
I wish Google would pay me to talk about them that'd be so nice.
Anyways, thank you so much for joining me on this little life update video.
If you're Australian, let me know in the comments what I should do or see while I'm here.
I don't know a whole lot about Australia.
You wanna know something?
I found out a little bit before I got here that New Zealand is like a 4 hour flight away
from Australia.
That's so far!
I thought they were like right next to each other!
They're very far apart!
Anyways, that just kinda fucked me up.
But yeah, this is the end of the video.
Thanks so much for watching, and if you wanna help me out on Patreon, I'd really appreciate it.
Otherwise, you can just subscribe, like, comment, all the YouTube things.
Alright ya'll, see you next time, bye!
