Youtube daily report May 20 2018

WARNING - COMPUTER GENERATED SUBTITLES

I've still got a hell of a problem filming outside okay I think it's

because I've done a hundred and fifty films inside that standing outside and

filming I mean that my neighbor as I was filming the garage he had to come out

and he'd completely ignore me it's just that self-awareness isn't it's

like I mean I got the same feeling when I was on the park bench in view doing

the speed of light film or whatever it was I have no flat earth I just find it

difficult I've got to get over it really because I think being able to film

outside without being self-conscious it's probably quite important ticket

because I want to do more stuff outside every time somebody drives past oh horse

poop drive past or walk past or I just I just kind of freeze up I become really

conscious of what I'm doing anyway long discussion with Wendy yesterday in

the car on the way back from Butte and we've absolutely come up with the

agreement that mm-hmm

this is what I have to contend with all the time because this is the junk store

we've all got a junk store and this is mine

while moving it it's all gonna do and take all all the stuff from the garage

and I'll put it down here and all the Wendy's workshop is coming here all her

paints and bits and pieces here goes back up to the back of the bunker and

then that way we could check I want this multiband Shack Oh want to

trust him you're the camera sitting on a workbench

there and I cut in a sink still got no water it's been two years

I'm waiting on the farmer who's just out there at the moment but basically this

room we can turn into a nice shag but right now I've only got 40 meter dipole

I was gonna add 20 meters to that to make it a fan guy on 14 and 20 get a bit

of extra height well what's gonna do is run an 80 meter dipole off the fan the

other way is that perpendicular work 90 degrees to it but I can't get on 160 so

the way out the problem is if this is the high powered Shack and I leave the

house as the low power chatter can leave the 990 day which a 200 watt radio 2vf

owes which is really nice I can run let's say a loop on one vfo I could run

the vertical on another vfo and then I can synchronize the VF O's and I can get

both of me is which is a really cool thing to do

James is gonna have my to me to transversal in the next five years to

run to meet a nice 2 meter you know 10 meters I do have another amplifier so

for 10 meters I could run the 400 watts but down here I could then use the 590

the a con mm and then the 84k the big the big tuner from pale star and instead

of running an 80 meter dipole run ladder line or 450 line up to top of the oak

tree run a big doublet off it and that will give me 1 60 and 80

I get 40 off that as well and then run dipoles for twenty and ten off the top

who knows but the key is I've gotta get a desk over here with the radios in it

plumbing they or some conduit there anyway out this door is is my workshop

son suppose you through so when wendy's today you see and this

is what stuart my friend it calls the dirty room if you know what i mean and

my god is he dirty and it's normally cluttered so where you are there see I

reckon I could get about five hundred poles there and a load of pre-made DX

commander bits and pieces I would make up big table with scaffolding poles I

don't have three phase in the other room I got three phase here but I don't think

I'm buying an amplifier that needs three plates below of course we've got the

Wi-Fi that's coming in across the road here I can only be on these guests wife

I don't need a solution and have to grab that and then repopulate it in here so

what do I use their antiquity Reuter thing or something I'm gonna want my

iPhone on it we want to build a live stream stuff and whatever but it's quite

exciting so this room it's a complete nightmare really I put all these work

benches on everything and I've bought you know but the toolbox and I've got my

pillar drill and everything so he it does get that in the room it just gets

you know metal flakes and irony so to have that a nice a nice room in here

it's just gonna be perfect it does have a window and and I

specified that as bulletproof I know it sounds crazy I paid the extra it wasn't

actually that much but you can hit it with a sledgehammer and it bounced off

and the man showed me and I've got a steel door I might have quite expensive

gear down here but it does have an alarm forget an IP camera down here as well

might be quite handy so I tell you and the amount of d-10 I've recently been

able to purchase is fantastic three on the Shelf there that aren't super high

quality but good enough you know one two three four down here the three

outside the front door three brand new reels

down here and then another four to them on you

so what's that as half a mile each there's one two three sixteen seventeen

eighteen circus me nine miles yeah I've got nine miles of radials which I don't

you think we're gonna fit oh and another one here but ah this is

the stuff with all the debris on it Jim bur I showed you the debris it's just

this it's kind of debris kind of sticky if you learn of me anyway

good times ahead howdy Paul so I got down here ah a lot some seven meter

poles down here this is a working farm I think I might have explained before but

that's okay the landlord he doesn't care and put as many aerials up as a one

hello Richard ought to be on film but we've got TV in

here here so it's but we need the TV erial which would be really cool so

that's it we're moving the shack from from over here and I don't really I mean

this is see here look I mean it works it's just a 590 little display and you

use this laptop here well I've got two meters down here as well

and I just don't know whether I am whether where I need to meet is quite

nice to have two meters isn't it I've got SSB two meters just mmm so I'll keep

you posted because I need to get on 20 meters reliably so I'm crossed Atlantic

and it'll be fun live wouldn't there so we need reliable internet and I need

reliable 20 meters and the more power better so hence the end before and the

big tuna see you later champs my name's Callum. Adios.

-Solanum PMV- *for my sister* - Duration: 1:37.

Love you, you little shit

Nobody said it was gonna be easy,

but when I forgive, there are no strings attached.

Was not gonna bring up your flaws in an argument.

Not gonna risk on a counter attack.

When you first revealed your betrayal,

my first reaction was

"How dare you rob me of my trust?"

But not even this would be able to shake our foundation,

cause it was created by us.

I can still see you.

Front row point of view.

We spent our entire relationship

fighting each other.

Our goals were exactly the same.

I put you through Hell by demanding apologies,

even though I was the one causing pain.

With your little mishap the ball was in my court to prove,

I could be the stronger one of us.

By taking over the role you so elegantly played those years, when I needed a rock.

I can still see you.

Front row point of view.

Loretta Ross Keynote Address - Hampshire College Commencement 2018 - Duration: 16:27.

Loretta Ross. [applause] Hey y'all. [applause] Yeah.

Now those of you who know me know how hard this

speech is going to be for me because I've promised not to curse [laughter]

So I guess I better speak really slow

cause my mouth does not have a filter

and my tongue definitely out races my brain.

The first thing I want to say is to give honor and praise to what day this is

you're not only graduating but I hope you remember

for the rest of your life that you graduated on Malcolm X's birthday. [applause]

You may not have known that.

As an activist it's one of those days I can never forget you know and so

whenever May 19th comes around either I'm protesting

somewhere, celebrating Malcolm X, or now speaking at Hampshire. [laughter]

But those things are all related. You know the way I've been in this movement for 50 years is

that I've learned that if you're going to be a lifetime social justice activist

you're going to have to party as hard as you work. Okay? So don't let anybody tell

you that doing good cannot be fun okay?

A mentor of mine Leonard Zeskind once told

me to lighten up 'cause I was doing anti-fascist work monitoring hate groups

and stuff like that and I was taking it so seriously. We're in Atlanta of the

birth of the civil rights movement, people have died you know so you know we

got to do it all the time and Lennie told me to lighten up. He said Loretta

fighting Nazis should be fun. [laughter] [applause] [cheers]

He said think about it, it's being a Nazi that sucks. [laughter]

And I've never forgotten that lesson. So I bring it to my teaching here at Hampshire.

I'm really surprised that y'all voted for me to be commencement speaker actually 'cause I'm a tough

teacher now I don't believe that learning should be a hazing like a

fraternity thing so I don't understand people who punish people to teach 'em.

I don't get that. If you got an S&M complex, get out of education. [laughter]

You'll have a lot more fun in a lot of other places. [laughter]

But at the same time my job is to teach.

The students job is to engage with the materials and I don't coddle, I don't

think any of you think I'm a coddler. Actually I don't, I'm not paid to do your

emotional labor so I never you know held out a tit. [laughter[

Mammy is not in my job description. So I expect people to work hard and take

charge of their own learning just the way I hope you leave here and take

charge of your life. Stuff will happen to you but you choose how you respond to it

Otherwise you'll let everybody else leave their dirty fingerprints on your

story. That's your choice. You can't choose bad stuff happening, you can

choose whether it defines you, whether your identity is the only way you get

defined. Those are real choices. So I really think that people have to be

responsible for the investment that others have made into their future.

You just can't take that for granted. I actually said to a Div II student when I

was advising him I've never seen anybody agonize so much over their privilege.

Really? You're upset because you've got too many choices?

Only at Hampshire.

So I do criticize the essays where every other sentence begins with the word I

and you know who you are. [laughter] I didn't teach any of you graduating students but y'all

remember those essays I'm sure. And I know we prepared you to argue with every

family member, right, who you claim aren't as woke as you are.

But eventually they'll forgive you once you forgive yourself and get over yourself okay? [applause]

I'm not sure if you understand this but the purpose of family is not to be your

political comrades. The purpose of family is to be there when nobody else will

[applause] That's their purpose

you know I don't have anything in common with my family but I know who's gonna

bury me. You know? And that's a macabre way of looking at it but it's a God's honest

truth: You need to know who's gonna be in

charge in that moment. So don't piss 'em off now. [laughter] I'm just saying

when the announcement went out that I was going to be Hampshire's commencement speaker

all of a sudden I started hearing from all these friends that I knew in my

nonprofit business world that I didn't know had went to Hampshire. I was like

this school must be amazing. I mean Vanessa Northington Gamble was

one of the first ones to write me. She is a kick-butt

professor in the history of medicine. The first graduating class!

And she led this whole Tuskegee study that caused, that precipitated a presidential

pardon, an apology for all the harm the Tuskegee Experiment had done [to African-Americans]

That's Hampshire y'all! [applause] I mean really.

and then of course anybody who saw Black Panther knows that our Hampshire grad

Lupita Nyong'o was in it. Wakanda forever!

So I know we're a bit kooky and eclectic and weird to

anybody. Well actually it's weird to me

'cause I'm still in the process of writing evaluations it would be so much easier

to just give you a grade. But one thing I've appreciated about the evaluation

process is that I have to revisit very intimately each of my students in the

body of work y'all have produced in order to write this evaluation. I can't

not think about you. And that is labor-intensive but I understand what it produces.

And so when you sign up this is what you do.

One of my students wrote this quote that I'm going to use this is, his name

is Salem Frobose, Salem I don't know if you're here but I told him I'd be reading

out his paper. "This is the kind of education I came to Hampshire for. I joke

with friends and family that Hampshire's fun policies like no tests, no majors and

no letter grades are not worth quite worth spending $50,000 on for a liberal

arts degree. But I've learned what makes this experience worth it for me is

gaining the kind of knowledge that has the potential to make myself as an

individual a better person as well as to have a positive influence on the world

around me. Finding a stable career is not what drew me to Hampshire, it's the power

that comes with an alternative education. My god I couldn't I couldn't say it

better than this student said it back to us. [applause]

And so that's what makes a degree from Hampshire priceless, we teach you the

power of critical thinking, something that's being denied to many other

students who are brainwashed into becoming robots in the system, rather

than the grit in the gears. I want y'all to be the grit. That's the

singular not grits like in South, okay? [laughter]

But I also want you to understand how important that is right now because we

have to become the frontline defenders of democracy. We're in a real critical

moment people. There are those who believe that the only way, the only way

they can hold on to their greedy grasp of power is to destroy our democratic

system, to destroy reason, evidence, equality, law, decency, facts, and justice.

Now I don't want to get in trouble by naming names but you know

who I'm talking about. Your last commencement speaker who named names got

trolled forever. Unfortunately she wasn't used to dealing with trolls I make a

career out of it. [applause]

And part of the problem is that I refuse to breathe in their toxic fumes

I don't give them any air I don't give them any space and let me just tell you something

that's a real important life lesson: Don't spend any time hating people.

The worst cut you can ever do to a person is ignore them.

That works so much better than spending any energy hating them because then they're sucking your

energy out and investing it in them just saying.

let me start talking about how do we do it.

My favorite self-made cliche is that when a lot of different people think many different

ideas and they move in the same direction

that's a movement.

they move in the same direction, that's a cult. [laughter]

And we are not going to be liberated by people with cult-like behaviors.

let's be clear

So stop spending all your time trying to persuade everybody that you know to

agree with you and believe what you believe.

We are not organizing cults, we are organizing a human rights movement. [applause]

that's a different task. [applause]

And so instead of getting people to agree with you

learn some calling-in skills so you can get people to agree to be with you

that's a different task, thinking whatever they need to think to join the

human rights movement. Because all of us don't think working on women's rights is

the only thing to work on or working on queer rights is the only thing to work on

or working on the environment is the only thing to work on. I'm part of the

women's rights wing of a human rights movement working with an environmental

and a trans justice wing of a human rights movement.

So stop acting like you're as woke as you think you are and to the extent that you think somebody

else ain't woke enough, proves how unwoke you actually are. [applause]

So I'm writing my next book called Calling In the Calling Out Culture, it's born out

of my experience here in the Pioneer Valley [laughter]

because we've given y'all radical politics without the radical skills to handle them

and so we've got to do better

and so in closing I hope I've left the lasting footprint on this

college. I've only been here one year I'm actually a fake academic I've been an

activist for 50 years and I've taught for one, so

I don't actually consider myself an academic though I do like being called professor

which none of my students ever did! [laughter] I said please call me professor and everybody went, Loretta [laughter]

I guess this is Hampshire.

Anyway I want to say to you, and Saumya you said it,

Never find an answer that makes you happy. Oh my God, that's the eternal quest for knowledge right there

and that's so Hampshire

so you're graduating from Hampshire and will leave us

but I promise you, Hampshire will never leave your heart. Thank you

Void Soul Vocal Remix: Side - Hyness [K:SA] - Duration: 2:50.

"In his excellence, Void Termina..."

"Shall bring the dark to the wretches of the light--"

"and all the same--"

"bring for all things."

"Mhmhm..."

"AHAHAHAHAHAAHAH~!"

With a black heart, Void Termina!

Devoid of lifes touch, End us all~!

With a black heart, Void Termina!

Devoid of lifes touch, Consume All~!

For he, who was ever present, at the equinox of life.

To we, banished for all we have done - once we were servants of light.

Left behind to unshine.

Left behind by history~

What is it that we have done to deserve this?

What of our hearts...?

What is this sin?

With a black heart, Void Termina!

Devoid of lifes touch, please end us all~!

Answer our prayers to thee, only you can hear my plea.

"There's nothing but a cold melody."

You've taken a scutum from us, what path have we yet but to draw the sword?

Years in the cold, we've spent.

Forget us all, you said.

Trying to wipe stains off of history!

"Of course they tried very hard..."

"But I wouldn't let them forget..."

"Japaloga..." (I apologize...)

"I'll make sure they never jaway..." (forget)

A place -- beyond us called Dreamland, a place where the nightmare began.

Shall be -- the first of many to go, a fitting sacrifice for my plan.

Come let us go, Parfait-sand..

(Chorus) With a black heart, Void Termina!

Devoid of lifes touch, End us all~!

With a black heart, Void Termina!

Devoid of lifes touch, Consume All~!

In a thousand more years, I'll have accomplished it.

Just keep waiting my lord, please wait for me.

The end of all things is a fruitless treasure.

One to be shared by all, the truths and lies.

What fools are these, Void Termina?

They speak of things foreign to me, like love.

What is humanity?

What's generosity?

Things like this -- I've lost the meaning of.

I only recall my hatred;

the unjust things done to both you and to me.

How's that for irony?

I have no memory,

all that drives me is the Dark History.

"I find myself forgetting things... more and more..."

"Party-flan..."

"You may not remember it,"

...

"but I'll never forget..."

My First Podcast Interview - Duration: 0:59.

So I used to be, and I guess I still am in a lot of ways, this elitist, self

proclaimed person with good taste who would just sit around and judge everything.

I was filled with bitterness towards my generation's lack of originality and

desire for sequels and annoyed with all of the Justin Biebers of the world.

Then I realized: who am I to sit around and judge?

I'm a nobody.

I should contribute my verse instead of just shitting on everyone's from the sidelines.

So I started putting stuff out.

And every time I release something, I think it's mediocre at best, and sometimes I

hate it, but I feel like it's better than attempting to be the best at analyzing or

criticizing art.

Art needs everything it can get, I don't want to instill any sort of reluctance at

all in people trying to express who they are, in fact, I want to do the exact opposite and

constantly try creating things which inspire people to share and express even more.
