Youtube daily report Feb 8 2017

In this short video, we'll be looking at

the soft K and the hard G sounds. Now

you'll find the soft K sound at the

beginning, the middle, and the end of

words in English. Now at the beginning, it

sounds like this, 'car', and in the middle

it sounds like this, 'rocket', and at the

end, it sounds like this, 'back'. Now you can

also find the hard G at the beginning,

the middle and the end of words in

English. Now at the beginning, it sounds

like this, 'give', and in the middle, it

sounds like this, 'wagon', and at the end, it

sounds like this, 'dog'. Now it's important

to be able to tell the difference

between the soft K and the hard

G because these result in different

meanings. Consider, for instance, the

difference in meaning between the word

'coat', and the word 'goat', and consider, for

instance, the difference in meaning

between the word 'pick' and the word 'pig'.

So how do we produce the soft K and the

hard G?

Well, first of all, I'd like you to take

the back of your tongue and pull it up

like this. It'll go and touch the roof of

your mouth at the back, and then you're

just going to blow through it like this.

K. You try that.

Good. Let's try again, K K. Very good. Now when

you make the hard G sound you're

going to go to exactly the same position

bringing that tongue right back up

against the roof of the mouth, but you're

going to make it harder and you're going

to give it a bit more volume and sound.

So it'll sound like this.

G. You try that. Good.

Now this time put your hand on your

throat. You want to feel that throat

vibrating. This is going to give you the

sound to make the

hard G sound. So here we go, G. Try again.

G. Well done. And that's how you

produce the soft K and the hard G.

Now learning any sound takes a daily

practice and you need to do that with a

range of consonants and with a range of

other vowels, and then you will be able to

get it in your running speech. Now I would

love to show you how to do this.

Come over and join me at Advanced

English Learning where we can help you to

improve your pronunciation and to get it

automatically in your everyday speech.

I hope to see you there

I'm Scared... ┃ ASL Stew Life - Duration: 6:15.

[JI] Hi I'm Jill... [JE] ...and I'm Jenna. [JI] Welcome to ASL Stew Life!

(hand slap.... ♪♪♪)

[JI] Welcome, so today we wanted to talk about the reason we're scared.

The reason we're scared is...

for example, if I bring up my Facebook feed pretty much all it talks about is politics.

I'm usually not a big political person, we don't really talk about it on this channel

but I feel like now... we kind of have to.

I am scared.

You know, I look at my feed and I see that Trump is

setting up... you know banning people from entering the United States.

Refugees from coming into the United States from many different countries.

You know I work at a college. We have a lot of international students there.

Just to know that they are scared and going through this horrible time right now

because of stupid Trump. I'm sorry, but it's not right!

Then I see more, and more, and more things happening you know.

With the Dakota pipeline, the wall... all of these things make me scared!

I mean what the hell is happening to this country?

I don't know.

I mean its not the end of the world yet... YET.

But it kind of makes me scared.

[JE] Yeah, you know with Trump becoming president last week,

well more than a week ago. [JI] A week!

[JE] He's done all of these things,

the immigration ban, DPL, even agaisnt the queer community.

Allowing states to go ahead and set up any sort of restrictions that they want.

Passing bills agaisnt us.

So, it just makes people feel like it's okay to judege and hate and discriminate

becasue of our so called president. I don't even call him my president.

But you know "president" Trump.

So, I don't know. I just feel disgusted and concerned.

I mean it's been a week. What's gonna happen in four years?

It doesn't look good.

[JI] I know some people think it's not a big deal

and it's reallly no problem but you know we have Muslim friends.

We are queer, so there's a lot of things we can relate to.

Our Muslim friends are having a hard time.

People are harrassing them. It is worse for them.

Even their neighbors are concerned for their life and that's not right!

This is suppose to be America, where we're suppose to be understanding

and open-minded and the land of the free and accepting and liberty and all of this.

But now we're not.

Sometimes, I have to be honest, I have to stop looking at my feed.

I have to stop looking because it's depressing and I can't handle it.

You know I woke up this morning and I looked at my feed

and I literally started crying because I'm so scared.

That doesn't mean I'm gonna let depression take over my life and I'm not gonna do anything.

I will do something. But first.. we can talk about it here.

[JE] Right, it's important to have a balance.

Activism is important, but self-care is important too

because sometimes you get so depressed and overwhelmed that you know

maybe you don't look at your Facebook feed

or stay home or do something to make you feel better.

We have to take care of ourselves and have that balance.

So that we can be ready and get back into action and do things.

Like going to rallies with other people and supporting each other

and feeling that solidarity. Just so people don't feel they're alone.

We're there to support you no matter what your background is.

Plus doing political actions like calling or being involved in different ways

but at the same time keeping self-care. That's really important to be balanced.

[JI] Right, so on this channel we do want to talk more about the things that you can do.

Not right now, but there's just so many different things that you can do.

It could be something small or it could be something big,

but everybody can do something and it doesn't matter if you're shy or not.

There's a lot of things that you can do which we will discuss more upcoming.

But remember, just because it's not you or you're not Muslim

or you're not queer, that doesn't mean you can sit back and not do anything.

You still need to support other people and show solidarity with them

because maybe... they're going for someone else now

or they're agaisn't this person or this person,

but then later who's gonna be left.... you.

So don't think that nothing can happen to you.

I'm not trying to scare you or anything

but you do need to think about other people as well.

I know that some people are gonna be mad about this and leave comments

blah, blah, blah. I understand that, but not everyone's gonna agree.

But, you know, I feel like we have to say something.

[JE] Again, this is our opinion and our feelings.

So if you don't like it, feel free to watch something else.

[JI] Right, peace!

So, that's kind of just us letting it out a little bit.

I'm kind of curious of what you think of the whole situation.

Are you in agreement, are you not?

Remember, try and keep it civil.

No swearing. No offending other people because we don't need that

and we'll just delete it. So, I do want your honest opinions.

So leave a comment below. Okay.

Proper Breathing for Singers: Inhale for Success - Duration: 4:42.

Hello happy singers!

I am Katarina, the founder of How 2 Improve Singing.

In this video, I am going to tell you how to inhale so that you can sing with power

and freedom.

You may think that good inhalation is all about the diaphragm but is the diaphragm really

as important for singing as people think?

I'll explain so stay tuned.

This video is all about efficient inhalation that gives you the power and flexibility to

sing any note you want.

There are three steps.

Step one.

Establish a medium-high chest position.

Before you take a breath and start singing, create ideal conditions for making an efficient sound.

It includes a well-aligned body posture with an open chest.

Your breastbone is up, and your shoulders are wide and back.

This is not a rigid or stiff posture.

It's a flexible and dynamic alignment that allows your body to expand in all directions on inhalation.

Bonus tip: Don't lift your chest too high.

If you cannot move your chest any higher it means that your chest posture is too high

and there is probably some tension.

So explore different chest positions and find the one that feels good to you.

It is absolutely crucial that you maintain this position throughout singing.

Do not allow your chest to collapse!

Step two.

The 360 Ring of Breath.

This simply means that you allow your body to expand in all directions: forward, sideways

and backward.

Let me explain.

Put your hand on your upper abdomen.

When you inhale, this part of your body moves out.

Now put your hands on the sides of your body.

When you inhale, the sides of your body move sideways.

Lastly, put your hands on your back.

When you inhale, your back expands slightly.

When you coordinate these three movements into a simultaneous action during inhalation,

you create ideal conditions for your diaphragm to descend fully.

Speaking about the diaphragm.

You cannot really feel or touch your diaphragm and you cannot directly control your diaphragm.

When your upper abdomen is moving out on inhalation,

it is not the diaphragm that you see or feel moving.

It is the abdominal wall and the inner organs that move

as a direct effect of the descending diaphragm.

And although the diaphragm is important for inhalation, stop focusing on the diaphragm!

Start paying attention to your chest, sides of the body and your back.

You can see, feel, and control these body parts and create optimal conditions for the

function of the diaphragm.

Step three.

Inhale silently.

Effective inhalation is silent.

If you hear your breath entering your body, something is not right.

There is an obstacle somewhere along the way.

It can be your tongue, your throat, or something else

that obstruct the vocal tract and creates friction.

So open up your instrument and breathe in silently.

And that is all for today.

Three steps to better inhalation that leads to a strong and free sound.

But there is more to good breathing technique than inhalation.

Find out if you breathe correctly for singing.

How to pronounce K and G consonant sounds in English - Duration: 3:14.

English. Now at the beginning, it sounds

like this, 'give', and in the middle, it

sounds like this, 'wagon', and at the end, it

meanings. Consider, for instance, the

difference in meaning between the word

'coat', and the word 'goat', and consider, for

So how do we produce the soft K and the

Well, first of all, I'd like you to take

the back of your tongue and pull it up

like this. It'll go and touch the roof of

your mouth at the back, and then you're

just going to blow through it like this.

K. You try that.

Good. Let's try again, K K. Very good. Now when

you make the hard G sound you're

going to go to exactly the same position

bringing that tongue right back up

against the roof of the mouth, but you're

going to make it harder and you're going

to give it a bit more volume and sound.

So it'll sound like this.

G. You try that. Good.

Now this time put your hand on your

throat. You want to feel that throat

vibrating. This is going to give you the

sound to make the

hard G sound. So here we go, G. Try again.
