✅ Boky jako dvě skříně? Oplácaná Ewa Farna vypadala v nelichotivých šatech s volány ještě rozměrněji - Duration: 1:45.
Zpěvačka Ewa Farna (24) odjakživa patřila k dámám s postavou krev a mlíko.
Ewa Farna ovšem disponuje úžasným hlasem a má obrovskou fanouškovskou základnu
A ti ji zbožňují přesně takovou, jaká Ewa doopravdy je, a kila navíc vůbec neřeší

Damage Control Deep Storage Vault (Scene) | Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) Movie CLIP 4K (+Subtitles) - Duration: 4:56.
Oh, that's him.
Okay. I got eyes on the convoy.
Pulling in behind the caboose.
Deploy anchors.
Dropping down.
No outgoing distress signals. You're clear.
Hey. Looks like they got some good stuff here.
Cool. It's like some kind of matter phase shifter.
All right, coming up.
Hey, Big Bird. This doesn't belong to you.
Oh, God.
- Suit lady, what was that?! - You told me to choose.
What? No, just set everything back to normal.
Activating all systems.
My head.
You appear to have a mild concussion.
Hey, so where am I right now?
I'm not sure.
The container walls are hindering my sensors.
Wait a minute.
They must have hijacked the truck and taken me to their evil lair.
Okay, suit lady, we're gonna have to fight our way out of this one.
Three, two, one.
What is this place?
Suit lady, where am I?
You're in the most secure facility on the eastern seaboard.
The Damage Control deep storage vault.
No. Seriously?
The door will most likely remain closed until morning.
Morning?
Hey, suit lady. I kind of feel bad calling you "suit lady," you know?
I think I should probably give you a name.
Like Liz. No, no, no.
God, that's... That's weird.
What about Karen?
You can call me Karen if you would like.
Hey, Karen, what else can this suit do?
What?
Maybe we should run that refresher course.
- Ricochet web. - Ricochet web.
- Cool. - Splitter web.
- Web grenade. - Web grenade!
Should I tell Liz that I'm Spider-Man?
Who is Liz?
Who's Liz? She's...
She's the best. She's awesome.
She's just a girl who goes to my school.
And...
Yeah, I just... I really want to tell her, but it's kind of weird, you know?
"Hey, I'm Spider-Man."
What's weird about that?
What if she's expecting someone like Tony Stark?
Imagine how disappointed she'd be when she sees me.
Well, if I were her, I wouldn't be disappointed at all.
Thanks, Karen.
It's really nice to have somebody to talk to.
Hey, how long we been here anyways?
- Thirty-seven minutes. - What?!
Thirty-seven minutes? That's insane.
I cannot take this anymore. I got to... I gotta get out of here.
There's got to be something in here I can use.
Okay, let's see.
Nope.
That's awesome.
Hey, it's like the glowy thing.
That glowy thing is an explosive Chitauri energy core.
You mean, we've been carrying around a bomb?
It would require radiation to transform it into an explosive state.
No, no, no.
Hey! Please! Please, somebody let me out! Hey!
Karen, you have to help me override that time lock.
Okay, Karen, lower the voltage and run it.
Trial unsuccessful.
Okay, we're just gonna have to try every sequence.
Ned, Peter, we're gonna be late. Come on, let's go.
Okay. Hold on, hold on.
Initiating trial 247.
It worked. It works.

Best Baths in Budapest, Hungary - Duration: 11:15.
Budapest is a city built on a bevy of thermal springs - 123 of them –
and people have been 'taking the waters', as they say, for many, many centuries,
at least since the 4th century BC.
There are plenty of baths to choose from and each has its own distinct feeling.
I visited three of Budapest's top baths to see how each one is unique
and, in this video, I'm going to show you and share my experience and tips.
I hope this video will make visiting go more smoothly
so all you have to do is enjoy.
If you're interested in my other videos from Budapest I'll link them as well.
I'm going to start with the Art Nouveau style Gellert Baths
which are part of the Gellert Hotel that opened in 1918.
It's on the Buda side of the Danube River and looms large as you walk towards it.
Beware that you don't enter through the front hotel entrance, however,
but through the side.
There are lots of signs there to direct you
which means that we weren't the only ones to make this mistake.
The actual entrance has an impressive interior with columns, statues, and stained glass.
Like all the baths we visited, you get a little bracelet that gets you in and out
of the pool areas and lockers.
You scan your bracelet to get through the entry turnstile
and then walk down a long, tiled hallway that sounds a little bit like being underwater.
There are little circular windows along the wall that look a bit like port holes
and they look out onto one of the pools so you can see people swimming past.
The windows are lit with multi-coloured lights that cycle through a rainbow of colours.
The change rooms here feel like organized chaos.
As you walk down the long corridors you'll see doors on either side
that are private rooms called cabins.
You can pay extra for these cabins where you can change and leave your things.
Paying less, however, will get you a locker in a common changeroom which is what we did.
The lockers aren't that big so don't bring too much stuff if you're planning to use one.
There are different pools indoors and outdoors at Gellert.
The largest of the outdoor pools was closed when we were there but it is open in better weather.
They have a model of it so we could at least see what it looks like.
Another outdoor pool was open so we visited there first
and this was also the first time I realized I didn't have flip flops and I wished I did.
Not only was it was really cold on the ground outside
but having flip flops anywhere in the baths is a really good idea.
We were there after dark and the exterior of the building was illuminated which was really nice.
If you want to actually swim instead of sitting
you can do that back inside the swimming pool.
Not, however, if you don't have a bathing cap, which we didn't.
This pool is surrounded by columns and has those circular windows and lights
that you see from the entry hall.
When you're finished swimming there are water spouts you can sit under
and there's also a second floor balcony that overlooks this pool.
You can spread out there in a lounge chair
and there's also a restaurant to grab a snack or a drink.
At Gellert there's also a large area where you can get massages done,
use the sauna or steam room,
or dunk in a really cold bath.
You'll notice in some areas – like going in and out of the sauna or some of the pools –
that there are these little water troughs you have to walk through to rinse your feet.
My favourite part of the Gellert Baths was a large room covered in decorative tiles
with a pool on either side.
It's really echo-y which is maybe why there's a sign stipulating silence -
but nobody was obeying that rule.
Overall, Gellert was a great introduction to Budapest bath culture
but it also left us wanting more.
Not far from Gellert, on the Buda side of the city as well, are the Rudas Baths.
I was really excited to go there because the Turks built a bath there in 1566
which is still in use today.
The Rudas Baths are separated into three distinct parts
and, unfortunately for us, the old Turkish part was only open to women when we were there.
And while this is great because it was actually only open to men for a very long time,
Marc and I wanted to enjoy together so we decided to visit the other parts of the bath
that were open to both men and women.
Before you visit, make sure you look ahead
and see when certain areas are restricted so that you don't miss out.
You can see on the board in the entryway what is open and how much it costs.
We went to the 'Wellness' baths which are very contemporary feeling.
On our way to that area we also passed a large lane pool
where swimming lessons were going on.
The Wellness baths don't feel private at all
because they're at street level with huge windows where cars and people are passing by.
The area is pretty small but includes pools with waters that feel warm, really hot, and cold.
Marc braved the super hot water which was too much for me.
I sometimes get headaches from really hot water – does that ever happen to you?
Maybe it's just me.
It was 42 degrees and a sign suggests not spending more than five minutes in there.
Marc wanted some water afterwards
and they have these cool water fountains with a ram head design that you can drink from.
The baths make you feel really thirsty
so I'd actually suggest bringing your own water bottle with you to stay hydrated.
One of the larger pools has water fountains that turn on every so often
and it's so nice to just sit or stand underneath it
and let the force of the water massage your neck and back.
It's the worst, though, when you're so into it and then the water turns off
and you have to wait for it to start again.
I have to admit that I was a little bit disappointed at the Rudas baths
because I'd been expecting to see the historic Turkish baths
and the wellness area lacked the charm I was really craving.
But then we went up to the roof and this made it all worth it.
There's a large circular pool up there
with a stunning front row view of the city, river, and bridges.
The pool has this lovely curved design that almost looks like a crown
and looks beautiful with light flickering on it.
Once we discovered the rooftop we spent the rest of our time up there.
Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we sat for around two hours.
The combination of the fresh air, the hot water, and that tranquil view
made me sink into this super deep feeling of relaxation
and I actually fell asleep floating in the pool.
Marc was using the GoPro and there's this shot I find hilarious
where you just see my legs floating there totally motionless as I'm sleeping in the water.
I'll never forget that calm feeling of waking up afloat in a hot pool on a Budapest rooftop.
For me, those are the unexpected moments that make travelling so amazing.
The third place we went is on the Pest side of the river located in City Park.
The Szecheyni Baths were built in 1913
and as you walk through the park it feels more like walking up to a palace than a spa.
Columns hug the buildings curves and the golden yellow colour feels regal.
There are graceful statues that dot the building
and a Hungarian flag waves at you outside the entrance.
The palatial feeling continues inside with detailed ceilings and carvings.
Szechenyi has 15 thermal baths and 3 swimming pools
but there's also a 'beer spa' where you sit in little pools for two
soaking in thermal waters and beer ingredients
while also served beer to drink.
Szecheyni also has pool parties on Saturday nights
so look at the calendar ahead of time if you want to go.
The large lap pool takes centre stage in the outdoor area
and there are two smaller swimming pools on either end.
I just love how this looks from way up in the sky.
You can see the scale of it.
One of the pools has a large spiral part where water pushes you around in a giant swirl.
You can paddle to speed up or just let the water gently carry you around and around.
It really does push you.
Yeah.
Marc and I had a lot of fun being pushed around the spiral.
It's fun.
Yeah.
It feels sort of like a pepped up lazy river that can make your stomach flip after a while.
This pool also has jets that push up from the bottom that are fun to play in.
The best is to balance on top of one and let the water massage your feet -
very into massages, as you can see.
The pool on the opposite side is where people traditionally sit to play chess at the side.
There's also a big fountain that sprays water from a statue.
We had fun playing with the GoPro again underwater, like Marc having a tea party –
did you guys play that as a kid?
I definitely did.
I personally have to plug my nose when I go underwater.
I don't know if I'm the only adult who does that still but it was still really fun.
The outdoor baths are charming day or night but it takes on a different feeling after dark
when the steam rising off the hot pools is exaggerated
and the lights have this hazy halo that brings everything into soft focus.
The steam also makes it feel more private
because you can't see all the people around you which is nice.
Indoors is a maze of connected rooms with pools
and they vary in size, depth, and temperature.
To get in and out you'll walk through a water trough again.
The tiles, colours, and symmetry make it really easy to feel
like you've walked onto the set of a Wes Anderson film
and, to be honest, that happens quite frequently in Budapest.
Don't commit to a location until you take a look around, though,
because you might find a pool you like better.
There are also showers that spray hot and cold water as the colours change.
Marc was afraid it was going to turn cold, which was a valid fear.
All three of the baths we visited in Budapest felt quite different, as you can see,
and in my opinion, the outdoor baths at Szecheyni are best,
the indoor baths at Gellert are best,
and Rudas has the best view of the city.
If you only have time for one, though, I'd make it Szechenyi.
The prices vary at all the baths depending on where and when you go, how long you stay,
and if you want a locker or cabin, for example,
but in general you can expect to pay ballpark $26CAD or $20USD.
Really important is to bring your own flip flops, towel, bathing suit, and bathing cap
to avoid having to buy or rent them.
Make sure also to check opening hours ahead
and whether certain baths are restricted on certain days or times.
As a general rule, I'd say going early or late is a good way to avoid the biggest crowds.
Give yourself lots of time to enjoy the different parts of the baths and really relax.
I'd say two hours at the very minimum
but know that you'll probably want to stay longer once you actually get in there.
I also suggest exploring a little when you first arrive just to get an overview
so you don't spend all your time in one area
and then realize you've run out of time to experience others.
Also check whether one section of the baths closes earlier than another,
like the indoor and outdoor areas might open and close at different times.
Thermal baths are an essential part of Budapest's past and its present
and I highly recommend visiting at least one if you're in the city.
I think it's the perfect way to wind down after a day of wandering.
I hope you enjoyed this video and find it helpful.
Marc and I made a series of videos about our trip to Budapest
about all sorts of things so I'll link those in the description box below
and I'm curious which of these three baths looks most enticing to you
so leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
Thanks for watching!

Science Mom's Guide to Water, Part 7 - High Specific Heat - Duration: 10:57.
There once were a couple of pirates adrift on the ocean and in danger of
dying of thirst. Fortunately, it started raining into their bucket. The
Pirates are saved. But hold on. The rain has caused by steam from a teakettle
hitting foil-wrapped ice held by a giant hand, and if all that isn't disconcerting
enough, the raft can't support the weight of both the rainwater and the Pirates.
It would have been a disaster, except for the fact that the whole exercise was
meant to illustrate the water cycle, a cause for which the pirates are happy to
go swimming. Welcome to Science Mom's guide to water part 7. In our previous 6
videos we covered water's properties of cohesion, adhesion, capillary action,
surface tension, and being a universal solvent. In this video we're going to
explore how water changes state with five hands-on activities: evaporation
sensation, water cycle in a jar, rain in a jar, pulling water from dirt, and balloons
that don't pop.
I'm wrapping four thermometers in napkins.
You can see that the current temperature
is about eighty degrees Fahrenheit, which is quite warm. We'll leave one of the
napkins dry. This is our control and we'll place oil, water, and rubbing
alcohol on the other napkins before we turn on the fan. I want you to make a
prediction. Which thermometer do you think will have the largest drop in
temperature and why? Pause the video and make your prediction. Now, let's turn on
the fan and find out. 10 minutes later our control and the thermometer wet with
oil have not changed, but the thermometer wet with water has dropped over 10
degrees Fahrenheit, and the thermometer wet with rubbing alcohol has dropped
even further. If you'd like to test this out on your skin just wet the back of
your hand with different liquids and then place your hand in front of a fan
or blow on it. You can feel how your skin instantly becomes cooler when it's wet
with water or rubbing alcohol but not with oil. This happens for a few reasons
first oil does not evaporate as readily as water or rubbing alcohol, and second,
oil does not have bonds that it shares with its neighbours. Water and rubbing
alcohol do. And anytime that you are breaking bonds, you are going to be using
energy. When the water molecule evaporates and rises up into the
atmosphere, those hydrogen bonds are broken and that requires energy and so
the water and the rubbing alcohol pull energy from the surroundings in the
form of heat. And that's why you had that evaporative cooling with those liquids
and the reason why rubbing alcohol drops even more and cools even more than
water is because you have a lot quicker rate of evaporation with rubbing alcohol.
If you pour hot water into a glass and then put a plate on top with ice on it,
water vapor condenses on the sides of the glass. We've got all three states of
matter here together: gas, liquid, solid. And if you watch carefully for several
minutes you can see water collect on the bottom of the plate and then fall back
into the liquid water below, and you'll see water condensing on the side of the
glass and droplets running together and getting larger and going back down into
the liquid water at the bottom of the jar.
Cooling water vapor down with
ice to make a cloud takes quite a while. There's a way we can do it faster with a
bike pump, a cork, and a two-liter bottle. I have a little bit of rubbing alcohol
in this bottle. The rubbing alcohol in here has quite a bit of water in it.
As we learned before, it evaporates much quicker than water so we get more vapor
from the rubbing alcohol itself in here as well. And if I begin to pump this bike
pump, putting pressure into our two liter container, I'm also increasing the
temperature slightly because temperature and pressure are correlated and as soon
as I release the pressure by nudging off this cap we get a cloud. Now this is
pretty neat to see because it's so dramatic; that sudden drop in temperature
instantly causes all of the rubbing alcohol on the water vapor to condense.
And if I increase the temperature a little bit by repressurizing the bottle,
I can make this cloud disappear.
Clouds that you see in the atmosphere are most often made up of very small
water droplets or ice particles depending on the elevation. When those
water droplets are very, very small they remain airborne, but as the clouds build
and become larger, more and more of the droplets collide and come together, and
they get bigger. And if the raindrops reach a in size, then they're too
heavy to remain aloft, and they descend to the ground and we have precipitation
or rain. There's a fun way to model this using shaving cream and water in a jar.
This isn't an exact model of a cloud by any means but it's a fun illustration of
how density can drive movement. First spread shaving cream on top of
warm water. Smooth it off with a knife or your finger so the top is completely
covered and even. Then drop about 5 drops of food coloring into one spot on the
shaving cream. It helps to wait a few seconds in between each drops so they
don't get too large. Observe from the side. If you want you can use a water
dropper to help add a little additional weight and chase the food coloring
liquid down and through the shaving cream. Be patient. It often takes a minute
or two but soon the color will emerge into the water and beautifully rain down
to the bottom of the jar.
I'm in the middle of the desert. It hasn't rained in weeks, and the nearest
water is in the Colorado River, miles and miles away. But I can fill up a glass of
water right here using just a shovel and a sheet of plastic. The first step is to
dig a large hole.
Then place a bowl in the center. Cover the hole with a tarp or a plastic drop
cloth and place small rocks or other weights in the center of the tarp so
that the low point is directly over the bowl. Then wait overnight and the next
morning come back to check on your water collecting contraption. With luck, the
change in temperature that your hole experienced as it went from day to
night and back to day will have caused water to evaporate from the soil,
condense on the plastic, and then run down the slope and just drip into the
bowl. You can do this on a smaller scale by placing dirt into a container and
covering it. Pretty cool. I don't know that I want to drink it.
Should I taste it? No! We pulled this water from the soil here just using plastic and a
shovel. Pretty cool. totally desperate and starving in the
desert---that might buy you another half a day of life maybe.
Yeah. Depending on how hot it was, so yeah, pretty cool.
If you bring a balloon close to something hot like a candle flame, it'll
pop almost instantly, but if there's water in the balloon to absorb that heat
then then it's different. I'm gonna have math dad
test out some balloons to see what happens when we have different amounts
of water in the balloon. You'll do an empty one one with one teaspoon of water,
a couple tablespoons of water, and a balloon that has about a half cup of water.
Go ahead and try it.
Now get your next balloon which has a little bit of water in it.
Like a teaspoon of water in there maybe? Not very much. All right, go
ahead and touch that to the balloon. Yep.
How long do you think you can hold it there?
My arm will tired in a few minutes.
[laughter]
All right go ahead pick up the
next one this one has a lot of water. This has got at least a half a cup.
So, he's held the balloon on that long enough it's made a burnt spot on the
bottom, but it hasn't popped yet.
The more water, the longer the balloon takes to pop, because water has a high
specific heat. "Specific heat" refers to waters heat capacity. The amount of heat
that one gram of something loses or gains to change temperature one degree
is called a heat capacity, and water has a much higher heat capacity than so many
other things. Take for example sand. If you had the
same amount of sand and water and you wanted to raise the temperature of both
of them by one degree you would need to apply five times more heat to the water
to get that same temperature raise. It's really quite impressive. I hope you
enjoyed the water series. Our book recommendation for this last video is
Science Mom's Guide to Water Part 1. You can of course check down in the
description to print out your free foldable book that can fold down into a
miniature pocket sized book, but if you would like to see more comics,
explanations, mazes, and puzzles then check out the Science Mom's guide to water series.
That's it. Work hard. Grow smart. I'll see you next time.
This was a fail. I thought I had the camera recording and I didn't, and we
didn't get any water the cups.
We definitely collected some water, but the problem is we collected a lot of
dirt too. So I mean technically you get maybe a
teaspoon of water. You could drink from that.
... getting high enough that when the pressure releases... Oh man.

Tamron Lens 70-210mm f4 Di VC USD - MEGAPIXEL - Duration: 3:15.
The Tamron 70-210mm f4 Di VC USD is a 3x telephoto full-frame zoom available in mounts for Canon
and Nikon DSLRs.
Announced in February 2018, it's a first from Tamron with a slightly longer reach up
to 210mm and a constant aperture of f4 making it possible to reduce size and weight over
the usual 70-200mm f2.8 zooms.
It's also lighter on the wallet as Tamron prices the new lens at 800 USD/EUR which is
well below their own 70-200mm f2.8 VC G2 currently selling for about 1300 USD/EUR.
To find out how the new lens performs optically I tested the Tamron 70-210mm f4 VC against
my reference lens in this segment, the Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f2.8E FL ED VR, and will also
show comparisons with Nikon's 70-200mm f4G VR, all on the demanding D850 body.
I've also added some material from Tamron's 70-200mm f2.8 VC G2 shot on a D810.
So if you're shopping for a 70-200+mm full-frame telephoto zoom, you've come to the right
place!
The Tamron 70-210mm f4 VC USD is a good lens at the lowest price in its class: The optical
performance is good to very good within the APS-C image-circle, although in the corners
of a full-frame sensor the results can be soft – the exception being around 150mm
where my sample performed at its best.
The AF is fast and reliable plus Tamron's VC image stabilization adds 3-4 stops of hand-holding
power.
The lens seems to be well protected against the elements and delivers a greater macro
magnification than the competition.
Plus you get compatibility with Tamron's USB "TAP-in" console to fine tune various
characteristics of AF and VC.
On the downside, the performance of the lens beyond 150mm is not good enough to really
enjoy the results with a tele-converter.
And although the lens is indeed the cheapest way to get a stabilized 70-200+mm f4 telephoto
zoom you have to bear in mind that the USB console and the tripod collar set you back
another 200 EUR if you need them.
The catch is in my tests, mounting the lens via the collar to a tripod proved more prone
to mirror/shutter-slap than the alternative of mounting the camera directly to a tripod.
And one final shortcoming: you cannot switch VC optimization between live-view/video and
still photography on the lens – you can only switch modes via TAP-in console.

Why Does the Moon Look Bigger on the Horizon? - Duration: 5:42.
[♪ INTRO]
Here's a question for you:
Which looks bigger, the full moon on the horizon, or your index fingernail held at arm's length?
Without actually going outside to check, most of us would probably think the Moon is bigger.
I mean, it looks huge on the horizon.
But from your perspective on the ground, the Moon and your fingernail are
actually about the same size, no matter where the Moon is in the sky.
It also doesn't matter how big your hands are, because if you have giant hands like mine
you probably have longer arms, too, so it balances out.
And yet, it really doesn't seem like the moon and your fingernail should be the same size.
But they are.
The Moon looks bigger when it's on the horizon because of something called the Moon illusion,
which has been puzzling people for thousands of years.
Seriously, Aristotle worked on this problem.
Before we get our minds too twisted, let's review what we know for sure.
When we talk about the size of something in the sky, we're talking about its angular
size, or what fraction of the celestial sphere it takes up.
On average, the Moon is about half a degree across, meaning you'd have to line up about
695 Moons to make one 360-degree circle around the whole sky.
And it's true that the Moon does actually get larger and smaller in angular size.
In fact, it can change by up to 13% in diameter,
mostly because its elliptical orbit takes it closer or farther from the Earth over time.
During the course of a night, though, it's a really tiny change.
And despite what our brains try to tell us, the Moon is actually about 2% smaller
when it's on the horizon compared to when it's high in the sky.
To see why this happens, think about the distance from the center of the Earth
to the center of the Moon.
When the Moon is directly overhead, the radius of the Earth is boosting us a little closer,
making it seem a little larger.
But when the Moon's on the horizon, it's basically at a right angle to us,
and the Earth's boost doesn't help as much.
So back to the problem at hand.
If the Moon is really farther away when it's on the horizon, why does it seem so big?
Well, we know physics isn't the answer, so it must have to do with biology.
Over the centuries, two main hypotheses have emerged.
The first, sometimes called the relative distance hypothesis,
is based on a shortcut used by our brains.
Over millions of years of evolution, our visual systems developed to associate
things near the horizon with being far away.
After all, when you're standing on the ground,
the horizon is literally the farthest thing you can see.
But stuff that's far away might still be important, so your brain kind of cheats and
makes that stuff seem bigger than it really is.
And when you see the Moon near the horizon,
that little cheat makes it look a bit bigger than it should.
There's just one problem with this idea: when you ask them, most people will say the
Moon seems closer the nearer to the horizon it is, not farther away.
That's where this whole question came up in the first place:
the Moon seems bigger and closer, even though it's not.
Which brings us to the relative size hypothesis,
which claims that it's not just the horizon that matters.
Unless you're in the ocean or the middle of the desert right now, when you look off
into the distance, you'll probably see a bunch of other stuff, like trees or rooftops.
And you often have to look past all of that to see the rising Moon.
That's where another trick of the eyes,
called the Ebbinghaus illusion, comes into play.
The Ebbinghaus illusion is what it's called when an object seen surrounded by smaller
things appears larger than an identical object surrounded by bigger ones.
Take these orange circles, for example.
They're exactly the same size, but for most people they don't look like it,
all because of the grey circles around them.
So when you see the Moon framed by things like trees that we know to be pretty small
compared to the rest of the landscape, it makes the Moon seem big.
And when the Moon is overhead, surrounded by the vastness of the sky,
it shrinks in your mind's eye.
Unfortunately, there's a problem with this hypothesis, too.
Airline pilots, who see the Moon against the horizon with nothing framing it,
also report the Moon illusion.
So could either of these ideas actually be right?
It's hard to know for sure, but modern neuroscience suggests it might be the first one,
the relative distance hypothesis, that's correct.
We now know that our brain's vision system is probably made up of two separate pieces,
the ventral stream and the dorsal stream.
The ventral stream helps you figure out what you're looking at,
and then the dorsal stream places that object in 3D space around you.
The Moon illusion happens when the combination of the two streams breaks down.
First, your ventral stream sees a white thing on the far-off horizon and thinks,
"Hey, this is an instance of the thing 'Moon,'
and it must be really big because it's far away like the horizon is."
Then, the dorsal stream takes over and says
"Ah, this Moon thing is really big and so it must be pretty close."
In the end, you end up thinking the Moon is both bigger and closer than it really is;
exactly what most people report!
On the other hand, when you see the Moon high in the sky,
your object recognition doesn't get tricked by the presence of the horizon
and you end up with a better sense of the Moon's angular size.
It's probably not too surprising that our visual systems, well-adjusted for threats
here on Earth, aren't really equipped to deal with the vast distances of space.
But it does mean that we don't always see the sky as it really is.
