Hi guys, today I thought I'd share with you my TBR for this year's Booktube-A-Thon
and if you don't know, Booktube-A-Thon is a week long readathon held each year by
the fantastic Ariel Bissett. And this year I think it is running from the 24th to the
30th of July and during the week there are seven different reading challenges and
that is essentially the gist of it but I will leave the links to Ariel's channel
and also the Booktube-A-Thon channel for more information and things like that
because I have probably forgotten something. I have taken part in the past
two years. I don't think I have ever actually completed it and I'm definitely
not going to be able to this year because I am attending YALC at the end of
the week and I'm pretty certain that I won't be able to get much reading done.
So I'm probably going to fail this year but to be honest I have failed for the
past two years, so I might as well keep that streak going but without further ado,
here are the books that I am hoping that I am going to attempt but probably
won't read during Booktube-A-Thon 2017.
The first challenge is to read a book with a person on the cover,
so for that I have 'The Girl of Ink and Stars' by Kiran Milwood Hargrave
and I don't really know anything about this book other than
it is absolutely stunning and I've had it on my shelves for about a year and I've
just been looking at it because it is so pretty. There is a map on the inside,
there are illustrations around all of the pages and it's just gorgeous. So I just
really want to read it and there is a person on the front cover. I believe this
is a middle grade and I think the basic plot of it is it's about a girl that
lives on an island with her dad and then her best friend goes missing and they go
on an adventure to try and find her friend. I may be completely wrong but
that is kind of what I've got from the summary but honestly it is just so
gorgeous and I'm really hoping that I will pick this up. And also I think it's
only about 200 pages long, so hopefully I'll be able to get through it, maybe.
The second challenge is to read a hyped book so I have two options for this because I
have so many hyped books that I haven't read on my TBR but these are the two
that I think may be the quickest to get through.
The first one I have is 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' by Rick Riordan,
which I have been wanting to read for years and have never gotten around to.
And the second one is 'Gemina' by Aimee Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.
Both of them are super hyped, both of them I've been meaning to read for ages
but I think I'll end up reading whichever one
I think will be the quickest to get through it because this one is kind of
middle grade and I think it'll be quite quick to get through and
then this one is just written in so many different formats and 'Illuminae' was
a very quick read. But I'm not sure whether I want to start a new series
just yet and also I will have to remind myself what happened in 'Illuminae' to
read this. So I don't know which one I'm going to get to. I'm sure it'll be a very
spur of the moment thing, if I manage to get to either of them. If you have any
recommendations or you know which one you think I should read, do let me know
because I'm so, so bad at making decisions and both of them, at the moment,
sound very intriguing to me. So one of these two I will hopefully be reading, if
I can manage to pull myself together and make a decision about which one.
Challenge three is read a book in one day and I have a graphic novel for this
because I am not a speedy reader. So it is very, very rare for me to be able to
kind of sit down and read a book in one sitting or one day. So for this I have
'Ms Marvel, Volume 3: Crushed' by G. Willow Wilson and I am so excited about this.
I love 'Ms Marvel', it is one of my favorite series ever and I'm pretty
certain that I possibly talk about this a little bit too much on my channel
because I just think it is fantastic. I can probably get through this in about
half an hour, so it's definitely one that I can read in a day and I can probably
then also start something else in that day as well. 'Ms Marvel, Volume 2' was
absolutely brilliant, so I'm incredibly intrigued to see what happens in this
one and yeah I'm just really looking forward to finally picking it up.
The fourth challenge is to read a book about a character that is very different from you.
So for this I have 'Goodnight Boy' by Nikki Sheehan and I don't really
know all that much about this but from what I can tell, it follows a child that
became an orphan after the Haitian earthquake and was then adopted and
moved to a different country. And that is all I can tell but also there is a dog
in it, so instantly I am all for it. It's written in an incredibly intriguing way
and it kind of almost looks like verse but I'm not a hundred percent sure
whether it is or not. This just seems like it will be a really interesting read and
definitely very different read for me and about the character that I am not
anything like and there is a dog in it. So as long as the dog doesn't die or
come to any harm, I am super super looking forward to reading this.
Challenge five is to read a book completely outdoors.
For this I have 'We'll Always Have Summer' by Jenny Han and this is the third and final book in
'The Summer I Turned Pretty' trilogy and I have been reading this over the past two summers.
So the first book I read two years ago, the second book I read last year and
both of them I read during Booktube-A-Thon.
So I'm hoping that I will read this one this year because I just want to complete
this trilogy of Booktube-A-Thons and this trilogy of books.
It's really cute, it's really fluffy, so I'm hoping that I will be able to read this outside
because it is very dependent on the weather. I live in the UK and although it
is July, it could potentially rain the entire week or it could be so hot that I
burn within 5 minutes. So I have no idea what's going to go on. So I'm hoping that
I will be able to read this outside. Otherwise I'm just going to sit in my
room, maybe have the windows open and just kind of imagine myself outside.
But whatever happens I definitely want to get around to reading this because as I
said, I've read it the last two years and I want to complete the trilogy finally
because it is the perfect summer read. The sixth challenge is to read a book
you bought because of the cover and I looked through my entire TBR for this
and I realised that I do not have one single book that I bought purely because
of the cover and I've never really been a cover of buyer. No matter how gorgeous
the cover is, if it doesn't sound like something I will eventually read, I won't
buy it but at the same time if the book has a stunning cover and it sounds like
something I will eventually pick up, I have no problems buying it. So for this
one I thought I would just choose a book that I really like the cover for instead.
So I chose 'You Know Me Well' by Nina LaCour and David Levithan and
I've had this on my TBR for ages and it's on my summer TBR anyway, so it kind
of fit in perfectly and I just adore the cover for this. I love the simplicity of it
and I absolutely love the colours in it. So I'm hoping that I will pick this up
during Booktube-A-Thon because I've want to for ages.
And the seventh and final challenge is kind of the Booktube-A-Thon goal and that is to read seven books.
As I said, I'm going to be at YALC at the end of the week and there is just absolutely
no way that I'm going to be able to read seven books in four days. It's just not
going to happen and I've already set myself up for enough disappointment with
the TBR I already have. So I just haven't chosen a seventh book.
If by some Christmas miracle I manage to get through all of the books that I have
mentioned today and still somehow manage to have time to read a seventh
book, I will just treat myself and pick up whatever I feel like reading when the
time comes. I have no idea what's going to happen, all I know is that I'm not
going to be able to read seven books. So that is my TBR for Booktube-A-Thon 2017.
I would absolutely love to know if you were taking part this year and which
books are on your TBR and which ones are your priority to get to. And also I would
be incredibly intrigued to know if you ever completed the challenge and if you
think you were going to complete it this year because I never have but I'm also I
think a pretty slow reader. But good luck if you are taking part,
I hope you have fun and I will leave the links to my Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr,
Goodreads, Blog and Snapchat in the description box below so feel free to
follow me on any of those if you would like and I hope you having a really lovely day
and I hope you have a fantastic Booktube-A-Thon.
Bye!
