How to Use Diaphragm in Singing (And Know If You Are Doing It Right) - Duration: 10:42.

Are you wondering how to use diaphragm in singing correctly and how to know that you

are actually doing it right?

If you are struggling to breathe easily when singing, if you run out of breath, if you

experience straining or if your voice sounds weak and thin, by the end of this video you

will have a better idea how to sing properly from your diaphragm and even better, you will

have three concrete ways to know if your diaphragm is working well.

Also, I am going to share a couple of easy diaphragm breathing exercises for singing.

Stay tuned!

Hi, I am Katarina from How 2 Improve Singing.

For the best singing tips on how to use your voice in a healthy and efficient way so that

you can sing any note you want, subscribe to my channel and click the bell icon so that

you get notified when I post a new video every week.

You've heard it many times: breathe from your diaphragm, sing from your diaphragm,

use your diaphragm properly!

But how to sing using diaphragm properly?

You cannot feel the diaphragm directly so how do you know if you are doing it right?

Well, let's first talk about how to breathe from your diaphragm for singing and then,

I will share three tips to help you determine if you are doing it right or not.

The diaphragm is the biggest breathing muscle that sits at the bottom of your chest cavity.

It is attached to your breastbone, lower ribs and some vertebrea.

It sits actually quite high, higher than you would think.

It's definitely not in your belly.

But you can feel the bottom edge of your breastbone and your lower ribs to get an idea where approximately

the diaphragm is but you really cannot feel the diaphragm.

The diaphragm is a structure that you cannot touch or feel when it's working.

The only thing you can feel and see is the result of the moving diaphragm.

Let me show you a video to get a better idea what the diaphragm is doing when you breathe

and sing.

As you can see, the diaphragm is a dome shaped muscle, we could compare to the shape to a

parachute or an umbrella.

During breathing, the diaphragm moves up and down, not in and out.

When we inhale, the diaphragm contracts and moves down.

The parachute or the umbrella flattens.

It descends a few centimetres every time you take a breath.

It does not matter if you sleep, talk or sing.

However, if you want to use the diaphragm efficiently when singing, you want to create

conditions in your body that allow the diaphragm to move more than a few centimeters.

And I'll show you how in a moment.

During exhalation, the diaphragm rises and returns to its dome-shaped position.

This phase is passive.

The diaphragm simply wants to relax so it moves up.

Therefore, phrases like "singing from diaphragm" or "support the sound with the diaphragm"

do not really make sense because we cannot control a relaxed muscle.

However, we can control other muscle groups in the body that slow down the return of the

diaphragm to its relaxed position.

If we let the diaphragm relax without any control, the air would exit from the lungs

immediately and we would not be able to sustain a sound.

So, how to use diaphragm in singing and how to know if your diaphragm is moving efficiently

if you cannot feel it?

The trick is to observe your body and understand the signs.

Here are 3 tips to know if you are singing using diaphragm efficiently:

Tip 1: Your torso is well aligned.

The diaphragm can work most efficiently when your torso is well aligned.

What is a well aligned torso for singing?

Your chest maintains a medium high position before and during singing.

The chest is open and flexible and does not collapse.

Your shoulders are wide and back and again they are not stiff or rigid.

Your hips are aligned with the rest of your torso.

Your diaphragm will not be able to descend fully if your chest is collapsed or if your

shoulders are curled forward.

There is simply not enough space for the diaphragm to move in a closed torso.

So, if you see a collapsed torso, you know that your diaphragm is not working properly.

Tip 2: Your torso expands in all directions during inhalation.

Breathing is a three-dimensional shape change.

This is a quote by Jessica Wolf, a Master teacher of the Alexander technique.

What does it mean?

It means that during inhalation, the torso is expanding, moving in all directions.

So, the sides of your body move sideways, the abdomen is moving forward, the back also

expands slightly.

There are some observable movements in the chest but most of the breathing movements

should be observed and felt in the lower half of the torso.

If your body expands in all directions, then you know that the diaphragm has good conditions

to work properly.

If your breathing is limited in one of these dimensions, let's say that your abdominal

movement is good but very little sideway expansion is present, you are limiting the function

of the diaphragm.

Tip 3: Your torso maintains expansion.

As I said before, if you let the diaphragm move to its relaxed position without much

control, it will move up very quickly and you won't be able to sing.

So, some torso muscle groups, like the abdominals and intercostal muscles, have to engage to

keep the torso expanded for as long as needed during exhalation and singing.

How do you know if your exhalation muscles are engaged?

Well, use your hands to feel the movements and engagement of the muscles.

And observe your body in the mirror.

If you are losing the expansion that you've achieved during inhalation quickly, then your

breath control is limited and you are allowing the diaphragm to ascend without much control.

Your hands will tell you how engaged the muscles are or if the torso is collapsing too soon.

So, let's put these tips into practice on a simple breathing exercise to see if your

diaphragm is working efficiently.

Let's do two variations of a hissing exercise: short bursts and long sustained hissing.

In the comments below, let me know if you've done a hissing exercise before.

Comment with "hissing" if you have.

But the question is: have you done this exercise with proper diaphragmatic movement?

Let's see: First, establish good body posture before

you start and maintain your optimal torso alignment during this whole exercise.

Watch yourself in the mirror to check if your body is well aligned.

Then, put one of your hands on the abdomen and the other one on the side of your body

to feel the movements.

Also, observe yourself in the mirror to see what your torso is doing during inhalation.

Expand your body in all directions.

Don't forget to check the movement of your back and your chest during this exercise.

Now, make short hissing bursts.

Keep your hands where they are and feel the engagement of the muscles and notice that

your body is not collapsing after every burst like this.

The belly doesn't move inward right away and the sides of your body and your chest are not collapsing either.

Instead, your body is maintaining the expansion and you can feel it with your hands placed

on your torso.

Now, make a long hissing sound and observe how your body is maintaining expansion.

Only at the very end of hissing, your torso will return to its starting position.

Isn't this easy to tell that your diaphragm is working properly?

If you want to learn more effective breathing exercises done properly like this one, check

out this link or the link in the description below to improve your breath support and singing.

In this video, I shared three tips on how to use diaphragm for singing.

And we tested them in a simple breathing exercise to check the function of the diaphragm for

singing.

in the next video I am going to tell you if a singer needs to strengthen the diaphragm

to sing better.

5 Things You Should Never Do to Your Car in the Winter - Duration: 7:50.

rev up your engines, today I'm going to talk about 5 things that

you shouldn't do to you car in the coming cold weather,

and the first thing is this, if your windshield is all frozen up with ice, don't do this,

do not heat up a pot with hot boiling water and pour it on the windshield, because guess

what, that hot water can crack your windshield, windshields are not cheap, in this case it's

a good idea to have patience just start your car, put it in defrost full blast with the

heat on as high as it goes, then walk away, wait for the car to warm up,

the heat will melt the ice, then you can pick pieces of the ice off, but don't pour boiling

water on it, you can shatter your windshield, now the next thing not to do when it get really

cold is, if your windshield wipers are frozen to the

glass, don't turn the windshield wipers on to try to clear it off, it can rip the windshield

blades right off which is kind of pain, but more importantly, doing so can burn out your

windshield wiper motor, it's hidden inside here, it's a big enough pain to take it all

apart and replace it, but brand new windshield wiper motors can cost a small fortune, they

could cost $500-600 or more, it's not something you want to ruin because

your in a hurry and your going to turn the wipers on that are frozen to the glass, here

again you want to have some patience, now if you want and you have one of those

nice plastic scrappers, you can scrap all around the blade and if you can break it loose,

turn the heater on and let it melt at least a little bit and once their broken loose and

theirs a little heat going, then you can turn them on a little and every once in a while

they'll wipe, push pieces of the ice away as the defroster melts it and eventually it

will push them all away, but don't just rush into your car and slam those wipers on full

speed because you can do a lot of destruction, I remember one Christmas vacation we took

the kids to Lake Tahoe in California where it's real high altitude and it snows they

had like 380 inches of snow that year, all these cars were parked with their windshield

wipers stuck up in the air and I thought, what are they doing, well the locals just

explained, hey our wipers they freeze to the glass, if we pick them up in the air hey it

makes cleaning the windshield with a scrapper pretty easy then we can just put them back

down and drive away, hey that wasn't a bad idea really and of course

if you don't have a place you can park where there's shelter that's even better, then you

don't have to clean anything off, now the next thing not to do is, not to touch

your tires at all, leave them alone and don't do anything, you got to check the pressure,

because when it gets cold outside it's simple physics, the colder it is outside, the tire

pressure goes down because the cold air has less pressure than the hot air,

so always check your tires when the car is cold first thing in the morning because when

you drive down the road they heat up and the pressure goes up, your suppose to check them

cold, now this is an extremely example but it happened,

a customer of mine moved to Alaska, and they didn't check the tire pressure in their tires

and it got so cold outside that when he started up the car, and drove it a few feet, all 4

tires went flat, because it was so cold there, the pressure

had gone way down and tires are made out of rubber, when they get really cold like 40

or 50 below he was dealing with, their not that pliable anymore, and with low air pressure

and not pliable, as soon as they moved the bead on the tire where it sits on the rim

just flexed off and they all went flat, now odds are that isn't going to happen to

you but realize that really low pressure the car is not going to handle right, it's not

going to break right and the lower the pressure in the tires, the more chance you have of

getting a puncture because it's softer theirs less pressure,

nails can get in easier, you just want to check them once in a while when their cold,

the next thing is, don't forget about your car's battery, sure it's hiding under the

hood and you don't look at it much, but it's very important for starting your car, now

the colder it is outside the harder your battery has to work to start the car,

they have what are called cold cranking amps rating,

in this case it's 700 amps of cold cranking amps, now that's a lot of amps for this little

1.8 liter toyota engine, it originally came with a 450 cca battery

but they just put in smaller batteries because it's cheaper to make them that way,

my advice, get the highest cold cranking amps you can that fits in your car, the alternators

can charge them up they just put in lower ratings because it's cheaper to make the car

that way, and with cold weather hey have a mechanic

or auto parts store to check them for free, check it out before it gets really cold, it's

a simple test, just put negative on negative and positive

on positive, it's that easy it shows that it's got 100% state of health but it's a little

bit low and that because I don't drive this car all this much it's just a work car,

plus that battery is 6 years old it's on it's last legs, if I lived up north where it's

really cold I'd replace it now but here I just put the charger on it once a month to

recharge it and it works perfectly fine and it gets me through the next summer, one winter

when it doesn't start I'll just replace it, now the 5th and last thing not to do is don't

forget to check your antifreeze in your cooling system, sure it's a sealed system and nobody

ever thinks about it but you got to test it before the winter,

it's a very simple test you just suck into this tester and in this case it says it's

good to -35 F, now since it rarely even gets to plus 35 F here in Houston, I don't have

any worries about my engine freezing up, but even here in Texas,

I've seen guys ruin their engine, they'll do something like they put a water pump on

their car in the summer and their in a hurry and they just pour water in and their driving

the thing around and then a cold freeze does come in,

and if you know anything about water, when it freezes it expands so if your engine block

and radiator and everything else has too much water and not enough antifreeze when it gets

cold it will expand and it destroys things, it can crack the block in your engine, it

can destroy your radiator, it can do a lot of damage, instead of just going out and buying

a $13 gallon of antifreeze and putting it in,

and while your at it, kind of look at it, if it's all dirty it probably needs to be

flushed out, check with your antifreeze, some are good for 3 years or 90,000 miles, some

are good for 7 years or 150,000 miles, you don't have to change the stuff all that often

but eventually it does wear out, so now you know the 5 things not to do to your car this

winter, so you'll have smooth driving, it might be a little slick but at least you'll

be prepared, and since this is the thursday segment where

I answer a viewer's question, place your own question on the YouTube comments below and

I'll pick the best ones to make a single video to answer your question, and where else can

you find a guy with 50 years experience of fixing cars to answer your own question with

How to make money online as a teenager at home! - Duration: 8:33.

- Hey I'm sitting here with my daughter Makayla

and we're gonna do a little bit of a different

video this time around.

And how it's gonna go is I'm actually going to be

interviewing her about how she was able to sell over

100 thousand dollars as a thirteen-year-old.

That was the first six figures that she made.

And so I've got my list of questions right here

so that we can pick her brain to find out

how she made this a reality.

Are you ready Makayla?

- So ready.

(upbeat music)

- You guys like our matching shirts?

Like we totally planned it.

(laughter) - We really did.

- Alright so Makayla first off tell us about your store.

Your online store.

What's it called?

Give us a little background of that.

- So my store is called iScarf2 with like the number two.

And we sell scarves online.

I started this when I was 13 years old.

We sold over 100 thousand dollars

in our first nine months.

It was pretty crazy.

I didn't quite understand how much money that

was at first until we broke it down into babysitting hours

and it finally made sense to me.

- Okay, now you mentioned "we".

So will you explain to everybody what the "we" is?

- So my sister actually helped with this.

She is not here with us right now.

- She's at Lagoon with her friends.

(laughs) - Yep.

- So Makayla what were kinda your roles between--

what did you focus on and what did Bridges focus on?

- So I did more of like the actual marketing kind of thing.

I reached out to influencers,

I talked to the manufacturers,

I did all the marketing stuff and getting the products.

And she took the pictures,

she named them and did everything like that.

- Yeah so Makayla was more front end,

Bridges was more of the back end.

- Yep.

- And it's kinda their personalities too.

Makayla is very outgoing.

Not afraid to be on a stage.

and Bridges-- she's a little bit more reserved in public.

Like she doesn't wanna get on a stage.

With her friends she's crazy loud.

(laughs) - Yes.

- So it kinda just fit their personalities pretty well

and they just fell into their own little groove.

Okay so tell me,

what is your favorite thing about selling online?

- My boss.

(laughs)

I'm the boss so she's pretty fantastic.

(laughter)

- She's got a lot of humility here.

- Yes I do.

(laughter)

- Okay what's the worst thing about selling online?

- So when we first started we actually didn't get

paid at first because we weren't selling anything.

So that was hard not getting money right away

for all the hard work we were putting in.

But then once we got it started and everything

was working smoothly the money did come in

and we got paid lots.

- Lots.

(laughter)

What do your friends say about this whole thing

that just happened or that has been happening for years?

- Most of them don't actually understand what it is.

Like they understand that I sell products.

They understand that I sell scarves online.

But they don't really know like the whole thing

that went into it.

A few of them do cause I have a few friends

who are also entrepreneurs.

But yeah.

- So if you had to do it again Makayla,

what would you do differently?

- I'd probably pick a product that was

trending throughout the whole year.

'Cause scarves are like big selling in the winter,

but not so much in the summer.

So like right now we are trying to sell them

but it's kinda hard to push a scarf in the summer

when it's too hot to wear a scarf.

And you wear--

So yeah.

Just pick something that's more fall,

spring, summer, and winter friendly.

- That makes sense. Okay.

And how do you balance this business with

school and friends and church activities

and just being a teenager?

- So I usually work on the weekends or like

a half an hour here or there.

I did have to take a year off for band.

My high school had the opportunity

to go to the Macy's parade last year.

So I had to put my business on hold while I put

all of my time, energy, effort, tears, blood, sweat,

everything into band. (laughter)

It was so much fun though.

I enjoyed it.

- That's another thing.

Just side note as a parent.

With her doing this business

we still needed to let her be a kid.

And of course I'm an entrepreneur and I'm like

no just keep going with the business.

But it was really good for me to step back,

let her do her band thing cause she learned quite a bit.

And now I mean she's super excited

about the business world again.

Right? - Yep.

(laughter)

Yep!

- Oh, how did you ship it all?

- My sister and I.

We did a lot of it ourselves.

But like during Black Friday and all the busy times,

fourth quarter all that,

we invited some friends over.

I did have to fire one or two of my friends

cause they weren't moving fast enough.

They weren't,

I guess, time efficient.

But most of them were good.

I enjoyed working with them.

(laughs)

- How did you know what to sell?

How did you know that you wanted to sell scarves?

- So it was kind of like the trending thing at the time.

I personally am usually very cold except for right now.

But I am usually cold and so I figured the scarf

would be a perfect thing to keep me warm,

keep other people warm,

but it was also trendy in the winter time

that would work and it would sell lots.

- Good.

And it did sell lots.

- And it did sell lots.

(laughter)

- How many scarves did you sell?

- Over 21 thousand scarves.

- That's amazing.

That makes me so happy.

(laughs)

Her business is in the homes of--

I mean people ordered multiples right.

But even if we chop it to a third.

Ten,

no seven thousand homes.

That's pretty cool.

Where did you get your money to start

Makayla, at thirteen years old?

(laughter)

- I did have to take out a wonderful small loan

from my dear mother

(laughter)

and father.

- How much money did you have in your

bank account when you started?

- Like a quarter.

(laughter)

- She was rolling in the dough.

- I was making bank.

- Do you remember how much the loan was for?

- A couple hundred dollars.

- Yeah.

- But if I were to do it again I would

not take a loan because they made me pay interest.

(laughter)

I would go work somewhere else and make the money

like babysitting or mowing lawns or

shoveling snow or something and make that money there.

(laughter)

And then do it.

- Are you still selling scarves

or what are you currently selling right now?

- I am still selling scarves.

They are still up and going.

I am actually working on a course to help

young teens, tweens, younger children

how to start selling products online.

Making it an easy, simple process for them.

I put some other products online

and we sold 26 of them.

So I made

(laughs) - Yeah.

All These Musicians Already Passed Away In 2018 - Duration: 10:24.

Musicians make artistic contributions to all of us, and they never fully die because their

work persists through time, delighting and inspiring others for years on end.

These musicians left us in 2018, but their compositions, performances, and works of brilliance

will probably outlive us all.

In 1988, 23-year-old singer-songwriter Lari White moved to Nashville to become a star,

and she found success almost instantly, winning the Nashville Network's proto-American Idol

talent contest You Can Be a Star.

Not quite a star performer yet, White found work as a songwriter for a major Nashville

publisher and penned hits for other up-and-coming performers.

It wasn't until 1993 that White got a chance to take the spotlight, and she did quite well,

racking up a half dozen country music hits including Top 10 smashes like "That's My Baby,"

"Now I Know," and "That's How You Know (When You're in Love)."

After her performing career started to fade a bit, White returned behind the scenes, producing

songs for Toby Keith and others while also getting into acting.

She passed away on January 23 from a rare form of cancer at the age of 52.

After the Temptations delighted millions of fans throughout the 1960s with the perfect

pop songs like "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," lead singer David Ruffin left the

group in 1968, and Dennis Edwards had the seemingly thankless job of replacing him.

However, this was right when the band was heading into its weird, psychedelic funk phase,

and Edwards was the right guy to hold the audience's hand on innovative, future-thinking

songs like "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone."

Edwards was part of the Temptations off and on until 1989, the year the act entered the

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and had a solo hit in 1984 with "Don't Look Any Further."

According to Edwards' wife, the unlikely pop icon passed away from complications of meningitis

on February 1, 2018, just two days shy of his 75th birthday.

Thanks to musicians like Billy Ray Cyrus and Garth Brooks, country music boomed in popularity

in the early 1990s.

But it wasn't just for the new guys, the wave helped all ships to rise.

Even the less slickly produced, more traditional country guys like George Strait and Randy

Travis got a visibility boost, and the doors were opened for new singers of that ilk, such

as Daryle Singletary.

Randy Travis produced Singletary's self-titled debut album, which included big country hits

like "Too Much Fun" and "I Let Her Lie."

He had a few more hit singles, then settled into a neo-traditionalist style.

In 2017, he teamed up with singer Rhonda Vincent to release American Grandstand, a collection

of covers of classic country duets.

On February 12, 2018, the 46-year-old Singletary died unexpectedly at his home in Lebanon,

Tennessee.

If you were a '90s kid, you probably at some point put Craig Mack's "Flava in Ya Ear" on

one of your famous mixtapes.

Mack had a few hits, but that 1994 jam was a Top 10 smash, and the song for which he'll

always be best known.

The story of how Mack ascended to fame is music industry legend.

He ran into Sean "Diddy" Combs, then known as Puff Daddy, at a Manhattan club called

Mecca in the early '90s.

Combs promised the young Long Island rapper a record deal if he could freestyle over a

Mary J. Blige track.

Mack did just that, so Combs held up his end of the bargain.

In recent years, Mack had quit music in favor of a pursuit of religion.

He was living in South Carolina and was the subject of a still-in-the-works documentary

about his new life when he died of heart failure at age 46 on March 12, 2018.

Along with punk bands like the Ramones, New York in the late '70s gave birth to a sound

and scene called No Wave.

Akin to free-form jazz, No Wave rejected punk music's rough and raw revival of early rock

'n' roll in favor of dissonance, noise, and experimentation.

Guitarist and composer Glenn Branca was extremely instrumental in the No Wave movement, both

with his band Theoretical Girls, as well as with compositions such as Lesson No. 1 and

solo albums like The Ascension.

Branca carved out a career as a composer of modern, progressive symphonies that were performed

all over the world, and his influence on noise rock and grunge was both direct and indirect.

He worked with members of bands like Swans and Helmet, and he personally introduced fellow

No Wave musician Lee Renaldo to Thurston Moore, who formed Sonic Youth together.

The 69-year-old musician died in his sleep in May 2018 after a battle with throat cancer.

Born Jahseh Onfroy, XXXTentacion's life and rap career had two things in common: They

were both very brief and fraught with peril.

The South Florida native was among the most notable "Soundcloud rappers," releasing his

first song, "Vice City," to the service in 2014, along with an EP and a handful of albums.

His first "official" single, "Look at Me," hit the top 30 of the Billboard pop chart

in 2017.

Later that year, X dropped his first non-Soundcloud album, 17, which peaked at #2 on the album

chart and his follow-up went all the way to #1.

All that success came amid a troubled personal life.

In 2016, he reportedly assaulted a lover and threatened to cut out her tongue because he

caught her singing another musician's song.

Later in the year, he allegedly strangled and held a knife to the throat of the same

woman for being unfaithful.

A few days after the woman learned she was pregnant in October 2016, X allegedly terrorized

her, with violence, death threats, and locking her in an apartment for two days until she

escaped.

Prosecutors charged the rapper with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery

by strangulation, and other charges, although the case was never resolved.

On June 18, 2018, XXXTentacion was fatally shot in what police believe to be a drive-by

shooting.

The rapper was only 20.

The guy that members of Papa Roach called "the nicest guy in metal" has died.

That man is Vinnie Paul, who played drums for Pantera alongside his brother "Dimebag"

Darrell Abbott up until the band's demise in 2003.

Pantera became one of the biggest metal bands of the '90s and the band's success was due

in part to Paul's singular, propulsive groove, which he credited to his Texas upbringing,

full of blues rock from the likes of ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

After Pantera split, Paul and his brother quickly formed a new band called Damageplan.

That group ended in tragedy when, at a 2004 concert, a man shot "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott

to death.

Shortly after, beginning in 2006, Vinnie Paul sat behind the kit for Hellyeah, a metal supergroup

which also included members of Mudvayne and Nothingface.

Paul's death was announced via the Pantera Facebook page in late June from what was later

revealed to be an enlarged heart and coronary artery disease.

He was just 54 years old.

Only a handful of musicians have earned an honorific title, Elvis Presley was The King,

Bruce Springsteen is The Boss … and Aretha Franklin was The Queen of Soul.

It was a nickname she very much deserved, bringing her soaring and unbelievable voice

to the world of contemporary music in the 1960s.

She recorded multiple songs of love and empowerment, including "Think," "Chain of Fools," and "Respect,"

which spoke to the civil rights and feminist movements of the era.

After the disco era began, making her real soul stylings briefly outdated, Franklin enjoyed

a rare second act, returning as a pop singer in the 1980s with huge hits like "Freeway

of Love," and her duet with George Michael, "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)."

All told, Franklin scored 17 Top 10 hits on the Billboard pop chart, and 20 Number 1 crossover

hits on the R&B charts.

In 1987, she became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and she

sang at inauguration festivities for Presidents Carter, Clinton, and Obama.

The Queen of Soul died at her home in Detroit on August 16.

According to her publicist, the singer had suffered from advanced pancreatic cancer.

She was 76.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the definitive Southern rock band thanks to hits like "Free Bird,"

"Tuesday's Gone," and "Sweet Home Alabama."

Oddly enough, though, it took a guy from California to help the group nail down its sound.

West coaster Ed King joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972 as the third guitarist in the band's

unique triple-guitar sound.

King left the band in 1975, but in 2006, more than 30 years after his departure, he was

inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

According to a post on King's Facebook page, he died at his home in Nashville on August

22, 2018.

The guitarist was 68.

In 2008, singer and keyboardist Kyle Pavone joined the Michigan band We Came as Romans.

The group had formed a few years prior, but the 18-year-old vocalist's powerful pipes

gave the band the final piece it needed for breakout success.

But it wasn't meant to be.

On August 25, 2018, Pavone was pronounced dead at a Michigan hospital, following nearly

a week of hospitalization.

A cause of death was not immediately provided, but was later revealed to be drug-related.

His heartbroken bandmates shared their sadness of his passing on their Instagram page, writing:

"We will miss his smiles, his sincerity, his concern for others, and his impressive musical

talent."

Pavone was just 28.

Rapper Mac Miller first gained a lot of attention in 2010 for his mixtape K.I.D.S. at just 18,

when he still a kid himself.

It spawned the hit single "Knock Knock," and the next year his first studio album, Blue

Slide Park topped the charts.

Miller stayed at the forefront of music from that point on, releasing more hit singles

like "Small Worlds" and "Self Care," producing music for other rappers, and starring on his

own MTV2 show, Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family.

In addition to his music, Miller made headlines for his personal life, including his high-profile

relationship with pop star Ariana Grande.

The pair broke up in May 2018, shortly before Miller hit a utility pole with his car and

was charged with DUI and fleeing the scene.

It wasn't Miller's first trouble.

He was often frank and open about his struggles with substance abuse and depression, both

in his songs and in interviews.

Those struggles ultimately claimed his life.

According to police officers, Miller was found by a friend in his home in California's San

Fernando Valley, where he was pronounced dead on September 7.

A coroner's report released in early November revealed Miller died from an accidental overdose.

He was 26.

That entire psychedelic sound that defined the late '60s, and by extension the entire

hippie culture, might not have happened were it not for guitarist Marty Balin.

In 1965, the former folk musician formed a band with Paul Kantner, and after recruiting

some more San Francisco-area musicians, Jefferson Airplane was born.

Balin played guitar and sang backup for the Airplane on some of its biggest hits, including

"Somebody to Love," "Volunteers," and "White Rabbit."

Balin briefly quit Jefferson Airplane to manage other bands, but returned when the group re-emerged

in the mid-'70s as Jefferson Starship.

Jefferson Starship's biggest hit, the #3 smash "Miracles," was a Balin composition.

But the arrangement didn't last, and Balin left the group for a solo career in 1978,

marked by the soft rock radio standard "Hearts."

Balin was 76 when he passed away on September 27.

Full Review | 2018 Winnebago Era 70M | The Only Class B with a Slideout and Dry Bath! - Duration: 19:32.

It is one of only a couple camper vans with a dry bath AND it's the only one with a slide

out.

We're reviewing a 2018 Winnebago Era 70M and we're starting right now!

Hello everyone!

Neil Balthaser here and welcome to Ultramobility Reviews the channel where you vote for the

RVs that you want me to review every week.

Have you cast your votes yet?

Head on over to my Community Tab and vote in the polls!

There's only one other class B camper van that has a dry bath and that's the Arriva

by Coach House.

A lot times in these small class B vans we get a wet bath where the shower shares the

same area as the toilet.

But with a dry bath, there's a separate shower.

We've got a lot of ground to cover with this van so let's jump straight into this review

starting with the exterior where we're also going to talk about those chassis specs and

hookups.

Like all Eras the 70M is built on the extended 170 inch wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter chassis

which means this van is the longest class B available here in North America coming in

at a whopping 24'3" in length.

You're definitely not going to be parking this coach in a single parking space.

Dual rear wheels give you improved handling especially on these longer wheelbased chassis.

The Era is powered by a very capable 3.0L V6 diesel engine with a 5 speed transmission

that can deliver 188hp and 325 lbs-ft of torque.

It has a tow capacity of 4,200lbs. and over 1,700 lbs of occupant and cargo carrying capacity.

As far as safety features, the Winnebago has opted for all the Mercedes safety upgrades

including Lane Keeping Assist, Hill Start Assist, blind spot and collision detection,

side wind stabilization and auto headlights and rain sensing windshield wipers.

I personally like the look of the Era.

It has a very automotive look with no swoopy graphics, black tinted, automotive style windows

- which by the way come directly from Mercedes and available aluminum dually rear wheels.

I especially like the polished stainless steel quarter panel valance trim which is an available

option.

Let's take a look at hookups while we're on the driver's side.

It's pretty clean.

There's very little in the way of access panels and venting!

Your shore power is located up higher as is your exterior shower.

But your service center is located down low just in front of the rear wheels and includes

your city water, cable tv hookups and your black tank flush.

I also like that Winnebago has included a water pump control in the service center so

that you don't have to run back inside the coach if you forgot to turn on your water

pump.

Your propane fill is located directly in front of the service center and your dump station

is at the rear behind the rear wheels.

I do appreciate the service center light located above the right-most rear window.

Often times when you pull into a campsite at night it's dark and having that service

center light is definitely convenient.

Before we head into the van let's take a look at the driver's seating position.

Like all Sprinters I have plenty of leg room.

And look how far back I'm able to recline the seat.

Keeping in mind that I'm 5'10" you can see that my arms are pretty much fully extended.

The steering wheel both tilts and telescopes so that combined with the ability to adjust

the seat's height means Taller drivers are going to have an easier time finding a comfortable

driving position in this coach.

Okay it's time to head inside to see how this van is laid out and also check out this van's

dry bath!

There is 4 floor plans available on the Era: The 70A which has a permanent bed in the back,

the 70B which has 3 captains chairs up front, the 70X which has 4 captains chairs and the

model we're reviewing today the 70M which has a dry bath in the rear and a slideout.

Here's our opening shot of what it looks like stepping into the van.

You've got your lounge/bed directly in front of you.

Now keep in mind that the slide is out here and that's required if you want to use your

lounge with a pedestal table.

Along the passenger's side is your galley and in the back is your dry bath.

There are two color options available: Fusion and Quantum.

Let's take a quick look at the driver's seating position from the inside.

Notice that with that slide out I have plenty of room but if the slide is in the wall of

it is going to block my seat from going back any further.

Let's have a quick look at the dimensions: pretty good cargo carrying capacity at over

1,700 lbs. and the interior height is 6'3" and there are no step ups.

This is a two person coach.

Only the cab seats have 3-pt seatbelts and this coach comes with only a 1 year warranty

and I'll speak about its build quality at the end of the video.

Let's head onto the galley where we're also going to talk about this coach's electrical

system.

This is a small galley which is surprising because we're in one of the longest class

B vans available here in North America today.

You do get a flush mount counter extension there to the left and I do appreciate the

large window behind letting lots of light in and the tile work backsplash.

Like all Eras you get a 3 burner stove which is the largest in its class.

You've got a stainless steel sink with a proper residential style faucet and I do like the

thick, solid surface Corian counter top which is curved and matches the drawers beneath.

It just gives the coach a more upscale feel.

Look at all that storage!

There's a bank of 4 deep drawers under the stove and then a cabinet under your sink AND

a large pantry/wardrobe closet to the right of the sink.

Above the pantry is your convection microwave oven.

Across the aisle-way is your enormous 6 cu.ft. compressor driven refrigerator and this refrigerator

has a separate 2.5 cu.ft. freezer and then to the left of your refrigerator is even more

storage including a deep drawer which would be perfect for pots and pans and then just

all this other storage space that frankly I wouldn't know how to fill!

Let's take a look at the aisle-way.

It's okay.

With the slide out you've got space for someone to go around you but when the slide is the

sofa goes up to the pedestal table mount in the floor and you can see that it's going

to be pretty tight.

One small detail that I appreciate however is that the cabinets have a bit of room along

the bottom for your toes.

That's a very residential design and it just helps to move you in an inch or so closer

to the counter while you're cooking.

Okay, let's move on to the electrical system.

Standard on this coach are two 6v lead acid batteries with 2,400wh of capacity and a standard

2.5kw LP generator and a kind of lacking 1000w inverter.

100w of solar is the only option available but that's for the 2018 model year.

For the 2019 model year 200w of solar is standard and then there would be no electrical upgrades

at all.

So this is a basic electrical system.

It does cover all your bases especially the 2019 model year which gives you everything

you need except for an upgrade path to lithium.

Hopefully soon Winnebago will offer their Pure3 lithium upgrade by Volta systems on

their Era line.

The Pure3 lithium upgrade is currently only available on their Travato line.

Before we move onto the lounge and bedroom: take a look at those lighting controls there

to the left of the stove.

Those kind of controls means this coach features multipliex wiring which is great.

Multiplex wiring lets you centralize all kinds of lighting and other controls into these

control panels which can be placed throughout the coach.

Additionally, Winnebago uses the FireFly integrated control system which lets you control a load

of functions from your mobile phone or tablet using the Precision Plex app for Android and

iOS.

Okay let's head on into the lounge/bedroom where we're also going to talk about the bathroom

and take a look at available options.

And you're going to want to stick around because I'm also going to talk about build quality

on this coach.

Here we are in the lounge now keep in mind that this lounge and bedroom are only usable

if the slide is out as you see here.

When the slide is out the two cab seats can swivel around and you've got seating for 4.

There's a pedestal table that can be setup in front of the sofa but it's not quite large

enough for the two cab seats to use comfortably.

You've got lots of light coming in from the cab and the sliding door has These are sliding

type windows has a big window that opens with privacy shades.

I especially like the large skylight letting in lots of light.

The skylight has screens and privacy shades as well.

There is a window behind the sofa which you'll see in a minute when I lower the bed.

I do wish that they would have kept this window when the bed is up like they used to have

on their previous model the Era 70C.

There's a 24" LCD TV on a swingout armature that is also positive locking.

The TV's sensibly placed where people can see it AND it's mounted up and out of the

way and not on the kitchen counter like the 70a floor plan!

Here's a shot that you'll rarely if ever see with the slide in.

I want you to see what it's like to have the slide in because you're not always going to

want or be able to extend out the slide.

Take a look at the space behind the driver's seat.

There is none because the wall of the slideout is right up against the seat.

Also it's kind of difficult to see but notice that the sofa is pushed all the way out into

the entry way.

There is no entry way and the sofa is pushed nearly up against the entryway grab bar.

So when the slide is in like this, the driver's seat cannot spin around and the pedestal table

can't be setup so you don't really have much of a lounge.

Okay, I thought that was important to show you because most dealer and manufacturer videos

don't show this floor plan with the slide in.

Let's put the slide back out and talk about sitting comfort.

It's just okay.

While Winnebago does use memory foam it's thin and you can feel it.

I do like that there's nothing behind my head and the seats are a good size with plenty

of elbow room.

I'm 5'10" and I can sit here just fine with proper back support and without my feet dangling.

One thing that I wish Winnebago would do is figure out a way to attach the sofa back cushion

so the wall so that it doesn't fly about when you're driving.

Good news however is that Winnebago placed a couple usb ports on the side of the sofa.

That's a great location because who wants usb ports up in the ceiling where cords dangle

in front of your face?

As far as storage you've got a large overcab cabinet and then all that storage that we

saw opposite the galley.

I really don't think there's a lack of storage in this coach.

Let's see how this area functions as a bedroom.

Setting this area up as a bedroom is straightforward.

You just need to find a place to stow the sofa back cushion.

Then you manually flip out this leg extension and push a button to electrically lower the

murphy bed and TADA! you have a 52"x75" bed!

Keep in mind that you have to have the slide out in order to drop the bed.

Here I am laying on the bed and you can see that that I'm 5'10" and I have plenty of space.

If you're 6' tall you're going to be able to sleep on this bed just fine.

Bed comfort was just fine.

It's nice having a proper mattress with now seams between seat back cushions and seat

bottoms.

One really nice feature of a murphy bed is that you can leave your bed made up when you

put up the bed so you don't need to find places to stow your pillows and blankets.

As you can see here there's a couple more cabinets above your bed along with readings

lights and some storage underneath where the pillows are.

And I really like that window in the back.

Those windows are awning style so you can crank them open even when it's raining and

rain won't get in.

Okay let's move on and take a look at some of the available options and their prices.

You can upgrade to a 9" color touchscreen info and gps system in the cab.

It's a Rand McNally RV system that has some RV specific features in it like knowing bridge

clearances and things like that.

It's a pricey $2,700 upgrade but it replaces the old and kinda outdated Becker system that

Mercedes installs and gives you all the latest and greatest connectivity options like Apple

Car Play and Sirius XM satellite radio.

You can upgrade to the Mobile Eye Collision Avoidance System for $1,000.

Again I'm not sure you need this since you're already getting as standard the Mercedes collision

avoidance and lane keeping assit safety features although it is only air to point out that

Mobileye does do a few things that the Mercedes system doesn't do like headway/following time,

and pedestrian hazards.

You can get a roof rack, ladder and aluminum wheels but the big upgrade that's missing

is the 4x4 chassis upgrade that's offered on every other Era floorplan but is not available

here on the 70M.

That's the sum total of your upgrade options let's wrap up this review by taking a quick

look at the bathroom before I give you my final recommendation.

Here's the big reason why you would consider the 70M - a dry bath!

Dry bath means that you get an enclosed shower separate from the rest of the bathroom and

dry baths are rare in the class b segment.

I'm only aware of one other class B van, the Arriva by Coach House that can boast a dry

bath.

The enclosure for your shower is a single piece of fiberglass and not paneling with

seams that need to be sealed.

There won't be any potential for leaks in this bathroom.

Bonus points for the textured glass shower door although these doors will have a tendency

to rattle going down the road.

Here I am standing in the shower.

The dimensions of the shower are a good size: 24"x31".

I've got plenty of headroom I'm able to turn around easily when inside without bumping

into a sink or toilet.

Speaking of which, here I am sitting on the toilet.

While there is a cabinet and towel rack above and behind my head they're not bothering me

and I've got good shoulder room.

I kinda like that little ledge that houses the Truma Combi system.

It's a great place for your phone!

Take a look up: there's a dedicated roof top vent in here.

That's in addition to the large skylight in the lounge so plenty of ventilation in this

coach.

Before we talk about tank sizes I just want to admire this bathroom.

I love everything about it.

That solid surface Corian counter top and its mosaic backsplash and humongous mirror

look like they would fit right into a nice condo.

There are much more expensive class A coaches on the market that don't have as nice as dry

bath as this coach has.

Okay, let's take a look at these tank sizes.

Wow!

Wow! and Wow!

An enormous 44g fresh water tank is approaching the size of a class A's fresh water capacity.

That's beyond good.

That's fantastic.

A generous 25g grey water tank and a massive 22g black water tank.

AND you get a standard black tank flush system which is always appreciated.

So all around really great tank sizes.

A couple is going to be able to boondock for days in this coach no problem.

Before I give you my final recommendation I have to talk about this coach's build quality.

On the surface this coach shines - literally.

Its high gloss cabinets are beautiful.

The halo rope lighting is gorgeous.

The solid surface counters are thick and lustrous.

It's easy to fall in love with the look of this coach.

But... as I do in every coach, I pulled out drawers and looked behind panels and I do

have to report that I saw extensive use of stick framing and staples.

Stick framing and staples is a construction technique that involves stapling together

pieces of wood to form the structural support elements of cabinets.

It's a fast and cheap way of constructing cabinets as opposed to using solid pieces

of wood that are then cut out and screwed together to form the structure of the cabinet.

I personally would never buy any furniture for my home that was stapled together but

it makes even less sense when the cabinets are subjected to the stresses and constant

vibrations when driving down the road.

you'll have to make your own call and determine if you're okay with stick framing but I feel

it's important to at least make you aware that stick framing and staples are being used

behind the scenes on this coach.

You won't find any other dealer or manufacturer sponsored video reviewer telling you this.

So what's my final recommendation?

Should you avoid the 70M?

Consider it?

Short list it?

Or buy it?

I think you should...

Consider it but only if you're a couple who want a dry bath in a class B camper van.

Honestly if it weren't for the dry bath I would have to recommend that you avoid the

70M but because there are just no other options available on the market today this coach's

dry bath saves it from the dreaded "avoid" rating.

Important Research - Need Your Help ASAP - Duration: 4:15.

Hello InnerTubers, it's been a little while. I missed a video last week. Because we all

needed to enjoy Thanksgiving, right? Ohhhh, but I have a very special research project

for you … after you listen to the upbeat happy-happy music.

[upbeat happy-happy intro music]

Are you listening? Are you listening? Is anybody listening in? Oh. This is seriously

top-secret research project … very top-secret. There's some shit going on in GrannyLand

right now … ohhhhh … it's almost impossible for me to tell you about it. But it's very

very very important research. And, we need the utmost disgression in this … yes. I

need lots and lots of answers and information from you, but it's nothing to do with your

personal life. Oh, no. I would never go there. I would never be a douchebag about that … oh

… well, that's actually what this video is about. We're collecting information – here,

the researchers in GrannyLand – all around me – we're collecting information about

what is douchebag behavior? Now, we want answers from all … all walks of life, and all age

spectrums, all ethnicity spectrums – the whole fucking world. We need to know. Now

wha wha when you write uh – and you can't send me personal messages because they might

be intercepted. Well, actually, you need to put them in the comments which will be intercepted,

but you can deal with that 'cuz you're not douchebags. None of you are douchebags.

I know you're not. Here's the deal. Are you ready? Are you ready? You can put … obviously,

it's gonna be about your name but don't call out anybody by name, okay? Don't say

my brother-in-law or my – my nephew Jack or, ya know, my Aunt Sue or none of that … none

of that. Oh, no. No No No. No calling out anybody. But – we need to know what you

think – you – you you you you you – all of you – all of you – we need to know

an example of douchebag behavior. What makes someone a douchebag? An old douchebag? A young

douchebag? A girl douchebag? A guy douchebag? We don't care, we just need to know. We

need to know. [mumble] Now listen, really, this is not a joke. This is the real fuckin'

deal. And don't be a douchebag. Don't – don't douche out on me and not answer

this, okay? Aaarrrgggh. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it. We need to know your

answers. Just tell us what is a douchebag-style behavior. Or, what makes someone a douchebag?

Don't ghost me. Don't you dare ghost me and be a douchebag. Oo, well, that's one,

now you can't use that one. You'll have to think up something else. We need these

answers as soon as you look at this video. Type a comment in right away … right away

… right away … right awaaaaayyy! Yes, just type your comment in right away. Uh,

okay, that's real … that's really all – all I need. Oh, except, of course,

buy my cookbook. There's no douchey recipes in that.

And um, what else. Oh, subscribe to

the YouTube channel, follow on the Facebook, hit the like, hit a subscribe, uh, do all

that stuff, share the video. Share the video with anybody you think has important information

to share about douchebags because we just need to know this. And I know they're not

you. I … I … know none of you are douchebags. Because you're my InnerTubers.

And because I love you.

Mmmmmwwwwaaahh. [blows kiss]

Granny Loves You.
