We are your host couple, Kelly Kontz.

- Steve Kontz, and we hope that you have

a wonderful evening.

We have been involved with the American Heart Association

for quite a few years,

but the primary reason why we are involved today

and why we accepted the opportunity to be the host couple

was because of my dad's heart issues,

and we were very close to him.

My dad was in great health overall,

and as far as you could tell he was in great health,

except his heart wasn't, and it wasn't until later in life

that we really figured out what was going on.

- Fortunately, Steve and I grew up together,

and Dick was a businessman in town.

He always walked around with a trench coat and a hat,

and just class act.

He loved his friends, he loved a good joke.

- [Steve] He was an incredible dad.

He wasn't one of those people that would tell you

how to live, he'd show you.

- [Kelly] And he loved his family.

- [Steve] Very much.

- That was the one thing about him.

The relationship that your parents had together,

your mom and him.

- They began dating before he went off

during the Korean War,

and he wrote letters to her, which she kept them all,

and she had hundreds of letters.

He didn't take excuses, and not in a bad way, in a good way.
