Ready to cross?
[Gordon] Yes
Let's go to the other side now
This is my equipment
It's so shallow
You just keep walking
Can you see the amount of balls up in the air here?
It even looks like one of the those soccer schools
That is amazing!
[Renata] Isn't it funny, all these people? [Gordon] Yes
Girls here don't watch, they play!
Cabo Frio has some of the most beautiful beaches
In Brazil
The biggest and most well known is this one right here
This is Forte Beach or Praia do Forte
And it has this name because there is a fort here
Over there
Fort St. Matthew
Cabo Frio is 100 miles from Rio de Janeiro
In my last trip here I created a video showing this beach
This is Cabo Frio, that's why I come here
And I got so many questions
People wanting to know more details
People wanting more tips
So that's why I am back
This time I'm showing you three more places
Very beautiful, also worth a visit:
Japanese Island - 'Ilha do Japonês'
Super beautiful, super trendy now
Also a historical neighborhood called 'Passagem'
And of course, the fort
We start right here
Cabo Frio is the seventh oldest city in Brazil
It was founded in 1615
So here, in addition to beaches, there's a lot of history
One of the easiest historical places you can visit is this one right here
St. Matthew Fort
It's located at the very end of the most famous beach in town
There's a natural pool right here
Right here... When the tide is low
it really becomes a natural pool
It gets really isolated
Be careful walking here
because if you're not used to and if you're wearing flip flops
it can get slippery
When the rocks are not very hot, I even go bare feet
The fort was built in 1616
With the purpose of protecting Cabo Frio
And why did Cabo Frio need protection at that time?
All this area was very rich in natural resources
Especially a valuable wood called pau-brasil
The Brazil Wood
And the Portuguese, our colonizers,
wanted to maintain control
What can't we do for a vlog?
If you're staying along the Forte Beach
the best way to come up here is simply walking
Even from the furthest distance
where the dunes are, when this beach ends
and another one starts
Anyways, if you walk form there all the way to here
It's like 30 minutes
Then you kill two birds at once
You do some exercise and you come up here and have this amazing view, look at this
You can come here inside to check it out
And you escape the heat a little
A typical window of the fort
Look at how deep it is
There was a guide there inside
And I overheard him explaining the tourists
that Cabo Frio was once the fifth largest city in Brazil
This beach here is so perfect for kids, look at this
There are no waves
At all
And there are a lot of waves over there
in the rest of the beach
Actually it's full of red flags there indicating that the ocean is really strong
But here, perfect
Did you like the view?
There's another view point, right here
You're very interested in fishing
[Gordon] They catch so many
[Renata] Really?! [Gordon] Yeah!
From here you can already see another place here in Cabo Frio
that is now as famous as the Forte Beach
This island right here
This is the Japanese Island - 'Ilha do Japonês'
There are two ways you can get to that island
If you're staying near this beach here,
the Forte Beach, or near downtown Cabo Frio
It's easier if you come this way
But is you're staying in Peró, Praia das Conchas
Or Gamboa, Ogiva, other neighborhoods in Cabo Frio
It's easier if you come the other way
Found a good shade!
This is the historical neighborhood of 'Passagem'
I'll show you on the way back
Because right now we are going to the Japanese Island
'Ilha do Japonês'
Here in this neighborhood, Passagem
There's this terminal here called Transatlantic Terminal
And this is where passengers from cruise ships arrive
The cruise ship stays over there in the ocean
And a smaller boat brings people to here
Don't confuse this location with the next one
Because if you want to go to the island
This is not where you come
You need to get a taxi boat just ahead
[Renata] Hello, good morning! [Vendor] Good morning
Please, how much is it to go to the Japanese Island?
[Sailor] It's 15 reais per person for a return ticket until 5 PM
[Renata] Do I pay here now? [Vendor] Yeah
[Sailor] This card here already is...
[Renata] One is good for us
[Sailor] No, it's 2 because, because...
[Renata] Ah, this is actually the ticket, right? [Vendor] Yeah
[Gordon] We need a card?
[Renata] Yeah, we need the card. That's our ticket back
[Crew member] I'm pushing it alone, I thought you were helping!
[Sailor] That's because the tide is getting lower [Renata] Yeah
[Passenger 1] Holy, what is that?
[Passenger 2] Huge turtle!
He's going to put stairs
He's gone
[Renata] Thank you [Sailor] You're welcome
[Renata] Thank you! [Sailor] Have a blessed day
[Renata] Thanks!
[Sailor] To return, it's in this same place. Just show this card and if there's no boat here, give us a call
[Renata] Ok, thank you!
[Sailor] Have a good day! [Renata] Have a good day!
When you come from the other side of the city
This neighborhood here called 'Peró'
This is where you arrive, right there
There's a parking lot right there, it costs ten reais
to leave the car there
And then when the tide is low
you can come walking like these people are doing
They have water by there knees
I've seen people crossing with the water by their hips
But if you have young kids or you don't feel comfortable doing that
You can take one of these boats here
Five reais per person
From here you can walk this entire island
360 degrees
When you stop like this, fish come all over you
This would be a good place to bring some chairs
and put right here
Relax
Because it's so shallow, you just keep walking
You're having THE life... Just in the shade...
[Gordon] Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah?
It is really full of crabs, all over here, all over!
[Gordon] There's two kinds of crabs [Renata] So many crabs!
One, two, three, four, five, six
[Gordon] There's two types of crabs
Yeah
When I used to come here as a kid with my parents
This island was not a tourist spot
No one would ever come to this island
I don't mean just us, but nobody coming to Cabo Frio
You could go for a boat tour, the boats pass right there
And I remember the guides mentioning
"Oh, over there, that's the Japanese Island"
We'd look and say "nice...". You know?
But that was it
The boom with tourism only started with Instagram
When people starting coming for the first time
And seeing how beautiful it is
And this is amazing
Because it preserved the island so well
You come here and you can see fish
You can see tiny crabs
The birds, all of them in their natural habitat
May it continue like this
Let's go to the other side now
Ready to cross?
[Gordon] Yes
This is my equipment
Look at Gordon with the rest of the equipment there
Extremely easy to cross here
There are no streams
It's just the quiet water
Very, very easy
No issues, you just see a lot of fish coming by
And some big fish
See that table?
Did the camera survive?
[Gordon] Yes
Are you sure the camera survived?
[Gordon] No
Can you speak more than one word today?
[Gordon] No
Or are you just one syllabus today?
[Gordon] One
My memory cards here
Safe and sound
Cheers!
Meat
It says right there, meat and cheese
Good?
Pastel - deep fried dough
With meat
or cheese inside
Or you can have other fillings as well
There's service over there too
There are vendors selling drinks and other stuff
You don't need to come here just to eat
We came more for the adventure
And also to sit down and have a different view
Whoa, it's so hot!
Tide is super low right now
That is why it's so easy to cross
Just being cautious here with the equipment
Thank you! He's got the card, ok?
[Renata] Bye, thank you! [Staff] My pleasure, thanks to you
[Renata] Beautiful! [Gordon] Yes
Look at these doors
So, now I can show you a little bit more
of this neighborhood, Passagem
This is a historical neighborhood
Original historical constructions from the 17th, 18th centuries
And now it's totally revitalized
This was the first city center in Cabo Frio
As soon as the city was founded in 1615
This is St. Benedict's church
It was built by slaves in the 18th century
And African-Brazilians used to get together right here
in this square, also in front of the church
to play the capoeira and also to pray for their saints
This square here, right in the middle of the neighborhood...
And around the square, full of bars and restaurants
Right now they are setting things up here
Preparing for the evening
We're a little early
It's 6 PM, but we're gonna get this party started
[Gordon] Thank you [Renata] Thank you
Cheers, to Cabo Frio
Now a proper cheers
With a juice, not with the water
Cheers!
This is not a place you come here directly after the beach like we're doing
My idea was to go back, shower, and then
come here in the evening
But as we're here now shooting and it is so nice,
so inviting,
We're opening this exception
So what else would you like to see here in Cabo Frio?
Or Brazilian beaches in general?
I'll keep coming back here
Let me know in the comments
Thank you for watching
And don't forget, I also have that other video about the beach
Forte Beach
Theres a link up here
And also a link in the description
