Merhaba! Today I'm coming with another video from the east of Turkey.
We are in Tatvan – a town of Bitlis Province located in Lake Van region.
And today we are going to Ankara by this train!
It will take us around 25 h if the weather allows.
But as you can see there is a lot of snow here. It's snowing straight on my face! Can't keep my eyes open!
But I think it's going to be better on the way. We'll see.
Let me show you how the train looks inside. Get on with me!
As I mentioned before, the route from here to Ankara takes around 25 h.
So I can't imagine sitting that long in the regular compartment.
And that's why we've chosen a sleeping wagon.
In this train there are 2 types of sleeping wagon.
One with 2-person compartments and the other with 4-person.
We are in 2-person compartment. I'll show you how it looks like.
The compartment looks like this. There are two seats.
Here is a part to make yourself at home. Luggage storage, hangers.
Kind of a table which is actually a pull-out one.
Here we've got a fridge. We took some food with us for such a long trip of course.
Here is some more storage space.
Here is a washbasin. We are lucky that despite weather conditions water didn't freeze up. It happens sometimes.
Here is the mirror obviously. The light here works I suppose.
It's really warm on the train and we also have this control panel to set the temperature we want.
But you probably wonder how can we sleep here. Here in a hidden bed. You just pull this.
Hoop.
And there is the first bed. To go up the second bed we've got this ladder.
And here is the second bed.
Oooo...
Hoop.
Here you go!
And then it looks like this, let me show you.
As you can see we were given sheets, pillows and blankets.
We only brought pillowcases with us for hygiene, you know.
We also have some extra blanket in case but it's so warm in here that it won't be needed, I guess.
And the trip starts soon!
Tickets for 2-person compartment sleeping wagon
as we've chosen were the most expensive of course.
But it pays off for sure and the price wasn't actually that high, cause it's 224 TL – 160 PLN for two.
And we are going to travel a day or more. Delays can happen. So it's a very long trip.
And such a compartment is so convenient, we can lie down, we can use the fridge and the washbasin.
There is a place to store your luggage. Such things aren't available in other compartments.
And one more thing. We were given some extras.
For example these flipflops.
(note: laczki is my local dialect word – should've said kapcie)
Towels.
Some juice.
Water in such a cup.
Sweets and snacks.
It's all included in the ticket price.
We can also order food and hot drinks or bottled water
from the buffet car and they bring it here to our compartment.
Staff is very kind and so helpful. No problems.
Whatever we ask for it's done for us immediately.
I'm very pleased.
Let's check how other parts of the train look like.
Here is the 4-person compartment.
You can see the same mechanism to open beds as in our compartment.
And it's here on both sides. There's no luggage store or washbasin etc.
And here as you can see there is a regular compartment where you seat like on the bus.
Here is a buffet car from which we order tea to our compartment.
But here are also other things of course.
Breakfast, snacks and soups, sweets, drinks and sandwiches.
Prices aren't bad but still I recommend taking your own food with you for such a trip.
OK let's move on cause there's one part of this train more that's important to see.
Let's go!
So how does the toilet here look like? There are two types.
Here we've got European style toilet. Pretty clean. Soap, toilet paper.
Here is the thing to cover the toilet seat to sit on with no worries.
Not bad!
Second type of toilet in this train is a squat toilet. I'll show you in a minute.

As I said, the other type of toilet – a squat toilet.
It's also clean here.
Soap.
Toilet paper.
Totally fine.
Good morning! It's Wednesday, the next day. It's about 10 o'clock am.
Which means that 25-26 hours have passed, and we are still on the way.
It's because of the delay that we have for different reasons.
At the beginning we had to face difficult weather conditions. There was a lot of snow on the way.
And then we've had two failures. I mean not we personally but there was a power failure next door.
And what surprised me, immediately when we stopped on the closest train station the electrician came to repair it.
Of course it affected the delay but the problem was solved so that's what matters.
Later, in one of the wagons the toilet broke down
and again on the closest train station there was a plumber waiting to fix it. So…
In Poland it wouldn't happen I think nobody wouldn't even care to address the issue.
And then, at night on one of the stations where we had a bit longer stop,
some youtubers decided to fly a drone. I have no idea what the wanted to record in dark.
But that's what they did and in result their drone fell somewhere.
Train staff and those boys tried to find it but it didn't work out.
And? The boys lost the drone and we lost 3-4 hours.
But I don't complain cause it's really convenient here. And thanks to this delay...
we could actually sleep a bit longer and take our time to eat breakfast,
dress up and we can still admire the beautiful views.
I wanted to talk about pros and cons of such a trip but there are no cons that I can think of.
Maybe if somebody doesn't like travelling by train or doesn't like long trips then it's not for them.
But I'm not tired at all.
As I said, it's totally different thing to travel by train when choosing a sleeping wagon.
I slept very well. It's pretty relaxing when the train swings a bit.
Nobody disturbed us. There were no weird neighbours next door, noisy or so.
I slept like a baby.
Views from the window are amazing. I think that it's one of my best trips in Turkey by now!
You probably wonder if it's safe to sleep on the train.
Weren't we afraid that someone would come in at night and steal out luggage or hurt us?
Not at all! One thing is that such situations don't happen in Turkey much.
And even if somebody wanted to do so, we locked the door.
And nobody was able to enter our compartment. So it was totally safe here.
3 hours later…
Good bye, have a nice day! Good bye, take care! Bye!
On the last part of our trip we came across tracks renovation going on so it additionally prolonged it.
In total it took us 29 h but we traveled more than 1000 km and we finally came to Ankara!
