After removing all evidence of riley's cheat night we untied the lines and said aurevoir to france and all the lovely people that have become
like a family to us as sad as it can be leaving familiar faces and places

We just left Le Grande-Motte in France, the last time you guys
saw us we were in Menorca with our Patrons
We quickly dashed up to Le Grande-Motte to get some minor changes made to the boat and now we are
heading south to the south of Spain, Cartagena which is
420 nautical miles
We've got, some wind today so we're really pumped. We just finished the shakedown cruise so there was
just, a few little things that we needed
tightening and fixing and
fastening and redoing and stuff like that so we got all that done
most noticeably, the
tender now sits absolutely flush with the davit arm so we're very happy with that
that will stop a big wave coming over the back landing in the tender and causing all sorts of mischief
so that was one of the major ones that i wanted to get sorted out and
now we're on our way. We've had no wind when we left, we were a bit disappointed, we knew there was gonna be about 20 knots
25 knots out here.. Well it was gonna be 35 at one stage i got the storm bag out
Yeah, Riley got a bit excited
but we've put the Code D up this morning to hopefully catch the wind further out here and
we have and we are flying at about what, 13, 14 knots boat speed it's been a really fun morning I would say. it's good
to be out on the water again
Riley's complaining that he's hungry and he has eaten two pizzas, in the last 12 hours
He always does this thing where if we're going on a big trip he'll like you know buy a pizza or buy something
to have on board and he ends up eating it like the night before we go so
He must suffer the consequences

Going crazy, the sea is
Short and steep, the bows are definitely not burying. So we've got two reeves in the main and we're getting
pushed along
we're surfing a lot but the bows aren't burying at all so it just feels fast but totally fine
So the actual pressure on the rig, which is the apparent wind speed, is very very minimal, I mean we've got
To reeves in, where we should only be thinking
About putting our first reeve, so the drama is the surfing, which is because of the short steep waves, they're just
pushing us into a surf all the time

After a ripping day sail and quite a lot of concentration, it died down for us at nighttime

We need to figure out with this wind speed where we'll roughly be in ten hours time and
follow the
weather, cos you see this system is gonna move further south and also change directions

It's very quiet on the boat this morning, the winds died off by about 5 knots
Its about 18 knots true wind at the moment and surfing down waves at about 11
i've
jibed this morning and i would like to shake a reeve out, but i'll wait for Riley to wake up, because he
didn't get much sleep last night, so..
Want to let him sleep for at least another hour or two. That's cool we are cruising along

towards Majorca, we're just going to cruise past the left-hand side of the island i think

I say, 'good to test her out again but unfortunately it only got up to 28 knots..
i've been thinking a lot about the Atlantic crossing as these would have been fairly similar conditions. If you don't mind i'll keep
checking in with you guys about different things i notice during different sails and keep getting advice from you.
The wind that we had was 22 to 28 knots from
120 to 130 degrees
We had to reeves in the main and full jib out. Speed over ground, 10 to 12 plus plus plus
easily all day but that isn't the reason for the email..
We were surfing quite regularly to 17 and once to 22 knots
Because of the way the Gulf De Leon is, we were getting two different wave trains that were
intersecting on our course, making for surfing that was a little strange.
At one stage we accidentally jibed at 17 knots.' So..
accidentally jibed is a jibe that is done accidentally when you, the wind is behind you and you cross
Over and your boom sort of slams to the side, it's not a good thing, but, 'we were doing
17 knots surfing down the face of the wave on autopilot
But because
We were going so fast the apparent wind was only 10 knots, and we jibed back with ease.
there was almost no slap or bang and we just kept sailing. I had a quick look at the instruments, could feel the boat and
what she was doing and it felt completely fine.
In my whole time' - and this is the thing - 'in my whole time on board so far at no stage have I felt as though
I have needed to run to the wheel and take control
Whereas that used to happen so regularly on the old boat. I guess Matthieu, i'm just asking you
if you would recommend dropping everything and running to the wheel at anything over 17 or is that completely
normal?' So i'm just checking in there with those guys just to make sure that what i'm feeling my instincts onboard

A strange vibration at 3:00 a.m.
woke us both up
our Watt & Sea see had caught some rope and fishing line and it was dragging behind the boat causing the whole portside hull to make a
weird sound
We spent the next hour or two trying to free this thing up
the early morning air was fresh, as we cruised into a quiet Cartagena. We are just coming into Cartagena, and it's really cold
it is a bit cold isn't it

I dropped the main-sail this morning coming in because we just had it up and we were cruising in at like, four knots, waiting for the sun to come up
