Some Team USA women say they'd compete in #MeToo black at Olympics
With the "sexually charged" Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games commencing amid the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, some women of Team USA revealed they wish they could compete in black, in sartorial solidarity against sexual misconduct.
In the wake of the sentencing of former Olympic gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar and harassment allegations that continue to swirl around snowboarder Shaun White, the weight of spotlight privilege is not lost on many U.S. Olympians.
"I feel that, as women, we need to stand up for one another and protect each other's rights," short track speed skater Jessica Smith-Kooreman told Yahoo Lifestyle in a Feb.
"The main thing is doing it for the right reasons, not the wrong ones. I don't think any woman should be taken advantage of.
At the same time, I believe that we are strong, powerful, and we do have voices, and our voices need to be heard.".
"What all the Hollywood actors did was moving and cool to see," hockey player Monique Lamoureux-Morando added in agreement, sharing that she would "absolutely" wear black at the games if the International Olympic Committee laws allowed.
"It's not just about Hollywood, it's about professions over the world. It's not just about women but men as well, creating equality across the board, she said.
Bobsledder Aja Evans says she's a major supporter of the #MeToo movement and "people who use their platform to stand for something so much bigger.
" As a woman of color competing in a predominantly white and European sport, Evans is to represent Team USA at the Games.
Meanwhile, others representing Team USA have mixed feelings on the notion of wearing black instead of the official red, white and blue uniforms at the Winter Games.
Snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis told Yahoo that she agrees with the regulatory uniforms because the competitors are not there to make political statement. "We're there as athletes coming together and showing the world what we've been training for over the last four years.
It's supposed to be a time of peace and honoring other athletes who have worked their hardest to get to that moment," she said.
For their part, the Olympic committee certainly trying to enhance sexual violence prevention efforts through the weeks of competition. Fox News reported on Feb.
7 that for the first time ever, counseling centers have opened at the Games to offer psychological services, medical care and legal advice.

YOU CAN'T JUST RELY ON MOTIVATION! 🚫 - Duration: 5:11.
Discipline. Discipline. Discipline. One attribute I've noticed where all the
greats to get them where they are to have these amazing Herculean careers is
from that one attribute discipline. Doing things whether it's through willpower or is
pushing through and making it a habit. That's what got these guys to get the
end goal that they wanted whether it was winning a gold or building an awesome
brand or an awesome name associated with them.
For me I learned when I was even just training for my first ever marathon. All
the training that I did to get me to finish the actual marathon, I adopted a
reps and sets mentality and this is something I've learned from my number
one childhood hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger. In his autobiography, Total Recall he
talks about how whether he was trying to become a grade A actor, when he was
trying to becoming a millionaire through entrepreneurial reasons in real estate,
whether was embody building in particular. Even becoming the governor or
the Governator of California, he adopted this reps and sets mentality so it's
where you for example when you're in the gym a lot of people know this that when
you're trying to build muscle and you say in the chest area you're going to be
doing maybe three sets of ten or three sets of eight whatever it may be you're
applying that same mentality to whatever you're trying to achieve so this is when
you're learning about whatever it may be like for me was even for running or
building a brand building a business writing the book. In writing an actual
book, and you set deadlines for what you want to achieve. It's a matter of doing
what you it's doing everything you can to get to the next point even when you
don't want to. Because there's always gonna be times when our minds
are gonna be playing tricks on us. Yeah but you could just be watching TV or you
could just have something nice to eat it's you know what at the end of the day
people may look at your story and look at it this big success and always talk
about the good things but they don't realize how much work was involved
because of the discipline it's not when people are noticing.
It's like that iceberg effects so in iceberg is usually submerged 91% in the
water and no one sees that and no one sees all the hard work that goes behind
everything, all the turmoil all the tears that are shed, all the stress that's
built up. Tthey only seeing the end product and that's what I feel like the
news does was certain certain famous people like Bill Gates or Kobe Bryant.
Everyone I know a lot of people that are giving shit on Kobe because he has his
own statue people don't realize he is a top performing athlete because he got up
early every morning to focus on his jump shot. He didn't care about what parties
were on maybe when he won the five championships he had. Everyone looks
at Bill Gates he has this massive massive house and all these accolades
but you got to realize that Bill Gates worked for in ten years but in his
entire 20s he just stayed in the cubicle and he wanted to work and work and it's
the same as Elon Musk anyone from one person in particular Mandela 27 years in
prison holy shit! To be in jail for 27 years and then come out strong and not
go crazy and managed to become South Africa's first black president! That is
that is pretty full on. And that is amazing that guy is well disciplined and you'll
notice that the top performing athletes the top businessman the top influences
of the world have an insane amount of discipline they know what they want and
they go for me to get here and to scale up as a person scale up a business scale
up a brand whatever it may be scale up the company it's a matter of doing
things you don't when it's just instilling as a habit. That's
what I've learnt to do you know what it might be a Friday night it might be a
Saturday night I might not be able to go with the friends but that time but I
said I was gonna do something and it's a matter of having a goal in place and
working backwards that I feel like that goal is always going to help you, it's
like your accountability to protect you from yourself while having discipline
and so it's learning about setting a reps
and sets mentality. So, this was where discipline comes in. Discipline is the
convergence between adversity and mindset. It's it's what happens when
we're going through the shit and we want to get out of it, for whatever
reason we're sick and tired of feeling sick and tired or we are at a we just
want to win again whatever it may be you need discipline that is something that
you learn from a really strong mindset. But anyway guys, Tofe Evans here, I will
lead into the video the next video next which will be obsession but stay tuned,
have a look at how beautiful this view is take care guys and stay strong
