Suzuki-En, Asakakusa Honten.

It is a classic tea store which has been open since 1853

but from last year something has become popular.

MONTHLY WRAP UP | October (+ November TBR) - Duration: 8:10.

Hey everyone, it's Julia and welcome back to my channel today

I am talking about what I read in October as well as what I may read in November

Like a personal update before I get into the books that I read and am reading

This month my family found out that my cat Cedric has

hyperthyroidism so he ended up having to go to get the medical procedure done for that and he had a

Radioactive iodine put into him he seems better now he had lost a lot of weight

So he went from like 20 pounds to like 15 and now he's backed up to 18 so that's good. He looks

He looks like his normal self again, and I'm very happy about that. I didn't get a ton of reading done in October

I only read three books

And I did start some others

So I will go over what I'm currently reading jumping right into the three books that I did read in October

Should start off by saying I don't have any of them

They were all library books and one of them was an e-book library book so EE not here anymore

The first book that I finished in October was geek Arella by Ashley Poston at the end of September. I had already read

58% of the e-book for giggorilla

And so I read the rest of it in the beginning of October. I gave this 4 out of 5 stars

I really enjoyed it

It's basically a Cinderella story

But set in modern day world and it's geeky so I think the tagline is like Cinderella goes to the con

I enjoyed this retelling of Cinderella instead of a pumpkin carriage. She works in a food truck called the magic pumpkin for example and

She you know makes her cosplay instead of having a ball gown, and I give it 4 out of 5 stars

It is one of those books where it is so filled with pop-culture references that in like two years

Potentially it's not even gonna be relevant anymore

But it was written super well one of the things I had really enjoyed about karela outside of the fairytale

element was that one of the characters Darion was black and so there was a

Element of diversity in this book that I think added a lot to it instead of it

Just being a you know a normal straight up fairytale retelling. I also read the last

329 pages of siege and storm by Leigh bardugo

And I also read all of roon and rising by Leigh bardugo

Which is this which are the second and third books in the Grisha trilogy? I gave both of them

Four out of five stars. I actually enjoyed them both better than the first book. I believe it gave the first book three stars

the second and the third book I was kind of able to ignore the issues I'd have it the first book and one of the

Main issues was not

understanding where all this mythology had come from because it was just kind of dropped in the first book with the

Expectation that the reader just go with it and by the time the second and third book came around I was able to just go

With it and kinda actually enjoy the story for what it was and the other issue

I had with the books was the way the magic was described and some attire to the

There's someone inside your house by Stephanie Perkins

I had every intention of finishing this before the end of October

But I didn't realize that it wasn't really an arc. It is a partial arc

So it only has the first

151 pages and I kind of noticed like about a hundred pages

And I was like this doesn't seem like it can wrap up in the amount of pages that are left

and I did think it was a little short for like a

Mystery thriller book and so I skipped ahead to the end at the end of the book it says

great marketing idea, but really

Really frustrating especially because I went to go get the rest of this it by the time

I was ringing the say without it sounds like okay. I can go get it from the library

But I went to go to my library

and they did not have it the only way I was able to find it was by eBook through the library and

So I'm on the wait list, but there's like eight people waiting for the e-book. I'm enjoying it

It's a really fast read, but I'm not liking it enough to want to buy it, and I don't know anyone who owns it so

This is gonna. Just kind of be hanging on my current read list for a little while

There's two things that are really bothering me about I wish I'm making disinclined to purchase this book the first thing

I don't like about it is the romance I haven't read Stephanie Perkins

Maybe this is pretty indicative of her other romances, but I don't think it's very romantic

I was hoping for more focus on solving a murder mystery than focusing on

acquiring a boyfriend and the other thing is I

Am pretty sure that I know who the killer is I figured this out pretty early on as soon as the character was introduced

This isn't exactly a spoiler, but it might give away

Why I noticed it, so skip ahead like 20 seconds if you don't want to hear this, but they introduced

Like three or four characters in the group and this one character was much

More clearly described than the others and as soon as I saw that I was like

That person is the murderer because why else would we get that much detail about them?

and not about the other people being described on the same page and

Lo and behold the murder chapters take the point of view of the victim and so they often

describe like the person who's about to kill them and

Pretty much all the same words used to describe the person really were first introduced or used to describe the killer so I'm pretty

Confident I know who it is

I you know I can guess a lot of things in books and things are predictable, but like that's that's a little annoying

maybe it'll have like a scream twist where it's not just one person it can be multiple, but I

Don't think so so I will update you when I eventually finish this which could be in January

I also read a little more of the mage and the magpie by Austin J. Bailey. I end in September

33% into the e-book gonna end at October

49% into the e-book, I'm not in a rush to finish it

I am enjoying it, but it's not really grabbing my attention, and I have other books that I've been prioritizing

It's a nice quick read when I need a break from whatever else. I'm currently reading

I don't think I mentioned this last month, but it is no great

And it doesn't strike me as Mill greedy as some of my other books

I think it's kind of like a higher end middle grade and then finally I'm in the middle of Hydra

Why shouldn't say in the middle I am

335 pages into Voyager out of

870 but it's it's going well, I'm liking it so far. I love Diana Galba Don's writing

I think she's really funny, and she also has a lot of great details

And I always learned so many new vocab words and I read Eleanor books

there's a couple Reese issues in here that I'm not the biggest fan of we'll see how they pan out after I

Finish reading it so many more to go

But I gots gonna pay to send I'm very excited about that so I am currently reading three books so for

November I am not really having a set TBR my only real

Goal for November is to finish the three books. I'm currently reading so I would love to finish

There's someone inside your house although of course that is contingent on getting the e-book within the month of November

I would love to finish the mage and the magpie finally since it's been very slow going and

I really want to focus on reading the last 500 ish pages a

Voyager and then I think for December I'll probably have like a proper TBR to go through the winter
