I grew up in the desert I was raised by a pack of wild coyotes basically like
out in the Mojave Desert near Death Valley I spent the morning on MySpace
looking at pictures of my dead ex-boyfriend the phrase my dead
ex-boyfriend is syntactically ambiguous you can't tell from it whether this
boyfriend and I were together when he died. We were not. We've been broken up
for about two years we were together for three than apart for two then he died. He
died in a car crash that's how he died.
One thing that you write about in this story
– could we start with the story? – is the internet, which is I think for lot of writers
something we talk about as something very difficult to write about. How
did you go about tackling that in a way that felt honest?
Yeah I was really
interested in these like, ghost social media accounts for a long time, and
probably because I – I'm of the demographic that sometimes called the
Oregon Trail – have you heard of this theory? I kind of like it because it
means that I'm not a millennial, but maybe that's just – there's nothing more
millennial than denying that you're a millennial you know? Maybe there's a
micro-generation in between millennials and Gen Xers that kind of came of age
with technology, so knew analog life, learned to use a phone that was plugged
into a wall, and then, you know, got computers in school and so that – it's
named after this video game the Oregon Trail that many of us played on the old
Mac. One of the interesting things to me about that theory is that there's a
small generation of people who have one foot in the millennial camp and one foot
that they can kind of remember – they can still kind of, I think, see the uncanny?
Maybe actually you could, it would be quite helpful if you talked about the
title of your debut novel, which is Gold Fame Citrus right?
So gold fame citrus is – is one character in the book, his estimation of like the whole
identity of California and the American West writ large, like all of the
people of European descent who flocked out there you know during the
westward expansion and then ever after, he says you know we've come for gold,
fame, citrus. I mean the gold rush, or Hollywood, and then the book is really
about the citrus part, which is fruit and water and this like dreamy paradise, this
Eden, like America created a biblical arc for itself that was not actually there.
California was largely a desert, you know? It's a beautiful like wonderful place,
but the the place where Los Angeles now is, it is basically a desert and but you
know that's not a good story, to cross a continent and then realize
that there's not enough water to have your gleaming sea-to-shining sea
version. So we tricked ourselves, or lied or deluded ourselves to think that
actually like development, like the very thing that would actually degrade
the environment even more – development, irrigation, massive massive
infrastructures and farming on a tremendous scale – that would
actually be better for the environment and for our civilization. Why? Well
because we needed that to be kind of like the Eden.
Do you feel like an American novelist? We've been asking everyone.
It's an interesting – it's an interesting identity to tag on to a storyteller, because part of America is
like telling so many lies and like obscuring the truth and the big things
about being American, you know, the Great American Novel or the American dream,
they're just bullshit, and so where you're like well – but then what? If your job
is to tell the truth, you know even in fiction it is our job to tell the truth,
but you come from a place that so deeply buries the truth, it seems like a
really, you know, heady crazy intense time.

Compression falls out in the warmish range at 11-to-1, so count on buying premium fuel.
A 32 mm throttle body and electronic fuel injection manage the induction with direct rider control and no fandangled traction control or rider modes
the R125 sports Suzuki's Easy-Start System that provides one-touch starts and a keyless ignition system
that allows you to start the bike with the key and fob in your pocket — security and convenience.
The 125 cranks out a total of 8.48 pound-feet at 8,000 rpm backed up by 14.8 horsepower at 10 grand.
While this doesn't look very impressive on paper, it's worth pointing out that at 295-pounds wet, those power figures give the R125 the best horsepower- and torque-to-weight ratios in the class.
Competitor: Honda falls behind a bit in the rolling chassis with the same vanilla suspension front and rear, but no ABS at all.
Like Suzuki, Honda built the CBR for handling and acceleration, so it enjoys the same sporty demeanor and exciting cornering ability.
Unlike Suzuki, Honda's ride is actually better suited for interstate work since it enjoys an 87 mph top speed that is surely less frantic at legal highway speeds than the 75-mphGixxer
To compound Suzuki's woes, Honda turns loose of the CBR125R for £3,799, a couple of bills less than the poorer-performing GSX-R125.
While the Honda will be better if you plan on using it for an interstate commute, Suzuki wins in the sportier riding category
