- Making the Olympic team after being out here for less than a year,

it was definitely a shock. And — wow!

Every day I'm getting out there,

I'm getting more and more comfortable with the ice.

So, hopefully, one day it will feel like second nature.

What I like most is just the feeling of being able to go fast.

I feel like that's what has drawn me to skating over all the years.

I grew up on roller skates.

I've been an inline speed skater for about 15 years now

and I got into roller derby in 2012.

Roller derby has played a big part in my cross-training,

and the roller derby community is awesome.

They've been following my journey and they've been super supportive.

Eventually, we have to make the jump over to the ice

if we want to pursue any Olympic dreams.

My first steps on the ice were back in September 2016.

I wasn't very good or stable,

but I got an email from the talent coordinator

with U.S. speedskating in Salt Lake City.

And he's like "Hey, like, when can we get you out here,

you know, to try long track."

I moved out to Salt Lake City in September 2017,

and by January I had made the Olympic team.

It was pretty intense.

When I crossed the line in that second 500 meter race out here in Milwaukee,

it was definitely unexpected.

I shocked myself; I shocked a lot of people.

I couldn't really put into words

everything I was feeling in that moment.

So, I'm just looking forward to being

someone that these young African American kids,

or people in general, can look to.

I'm the first African American woman

on the long track speedskating team.

We also have Shani Davis, who was the first African American period.

And then Maame Biney was the first African American woman

on the short track speed skating team.

It is kind of a historic moment to have the three of us on

U.S. speed skating teams this year.

It would be nice if it wasn't such an historic moment —

it would be nice if it was more commonplace.

But, you know, where we are now, it's a big deal.

Making it this year has been amazing.

And my goal going into the Olympic games will be to get faster and

faster each time I get out there,

and see where that puts me in comparison to the rest of the world.

yeah it's thinning out here at Slab City it's all good

Angela and I are still here and I've been working on a project literally all

day I had to go into towns I couldn't find what I need let me show you what

I'm doing I mentioned in a couple videos that my my taillights and signals are

partially blocked once the bike gets on here so I'm fixing it today the first

part was tapping in to the lights themselves right here so I've got yellow

green brown and white available for me and then I picked up a kit which didn't

work but basically I built a little 4 pin flat adapter here so that I can plug

in the lights but I'll show you these are the cheap 15 dollar lights that I

got they how are incandescent bulbs in there and for whatever reason the

running lights do not work at all and and actually the brake lights were

swapped with the turn signal so the turn signals were brighter than the brake

lights I don't know it's just they're really honky it was a probably a bad

purchase but I got on the bike and went down to a Riley's in Brawley and I got

these sweet looking LED these are a 3-way running lights brake lights and

turn signals they are flush mounted and I use self-tapping screws to put them in

to the edges of my steel carrier they're not going to get in the way of the tire

I already checked that the tire can't get there and then wiring it up I'm just

going to wire it all up and tuck all this and zip tie it back to the source

to get all the wiring out of the way that's how they're positioned one on

each side see ok so and they're really bright I mean they are like five times

brighter than the stock lights anyway so people are gonna know and I'm trying to

turn or when I'm braking way better I'm actually this is the this is a great

little upgrade I got these as singles for 18 bucks apiece you might need some

wire or the wiring harness to be able to tap into your lights up there

so there's that and the cost of the screws and driving around trying to find

parts today but I think we're good now so I'll get back to you looks like we

got about an hour of sunlight left and by that time it'll be time to test out

my wiring there we go all right I got the wiring all done in the back Angela's

gonna help me and turn on a few things and we'll see what the difference looks

like here and go back here there we go everything works

how about left blinker Yeah right blinker good for way cool okay and then

how about just brake lights excellent thank you next work I realize it's

practically impossible to show the difference in the amount of light coming

off but believe it the LEDs versus the incandescent bulbs these down here are

way way brighter than the stock ones and they are in a place where you are gonna

be able to see them very clearly no matter what's back here so I feel a

hundred percent safe now on the road and Oh show you the wiring so basically I

just looped everything underneath and then use zip ties okay there's a bundle

over there going to there there is a release right there in case I have to

take this hitch out for some reason that's why I put in the four pin flat

one which you can't see right now but anyway it's you can see wires in here

but they're all tucked away and hidden so I think it looks pretty clean pretty

happy with that project here's one more shot in the total black here I'm looking

in the viewfinder here though it doesn't look any brighter than the incandescent

light on this viewfinder but in real life it's much much brighter just stand

back and show you maybe like that yeah that changed a lot especially in the

daytime when it's sunny and I'm on the freeway try to change lanes people are

gonna be able to see my intentions a lot better

sleeveless t-shirt time I need a little slap city break so I'm gonna hop on the

bike and doh explore you know go see something that you I normally would not

see so keep the are be here all secured and

we'll go for a little trip and tried to find something fun yeah just got off a

highway 111 here I was like all excited I'm like whoa I didn't know you could

just go six miles from slab city and have this awesome Lake like I really

thought that I was looking at like blue water like a lake this is not a lake

don't know if it looks the same to you but it's just dirt but there's like

ripples out there in the dirt that look like a pond or a lake that's really

creepy anyway now that I'm off the pavement and onto dirt I'm gonna tour

down here cuz it looks like there's some riding trails and so we'll see what we

find I wish you guys could watch this video

in 4d in smell-o-vision cuz it's stinky it's so stinky I'm in a national

wildlife preserve here and things keep bubbling up from this little pit right

here it's really strange actually this little pit right here reminds me of the

hot springs over a slab city that everybody's just like oh it's so cool

you gotta go no it's nasty water and every time I go

there there's everybody's naked and it's just not pleasant over there it's not

clean either everybody's just scaling off parts of their skin in there and

then you know it's not like a moderated hot tub where there's chlorine no here's

bathing everybody else's filth the filth of slab city so yeah yeah I did find a

nice body of water on the other side of the preserve here got this canal here

see that over there lots of birds lots of nature over there

but there's just no way across this little canal I drove about a mile down

here and there's no like path / so that's too bad I feel good and like

reset I feel like my nomadic insides are good because I left and explored a

little bit smelled some different stuff so head on back to camp

I want to talk to you a few people ok we're back here at slab city entrance

I'm kind of sad that this cubicle has been painted over so many times it used

to be a really neat welcome to slab city piece of art here but everybody has to

change it all the time the backside is kind of cool I guess nothing about slab

city though and then this is what you see when you leave slab city

it used to say used to say good luck out there and now it says go something else

but hey just to give you an idea something I'm not trying to gross you

out or anything but I mean because there's a lot of things that slab so do

you think that could gross you out just to give you an idea I'm going to show

you the communal shower in case nobody's in it which there's no signs I think are

good but the hot springs are on the other side of this mound right here the

hot springs as they call it do you guys hear the running water just make sure

nobody's in here yeah it's empty ok so this is what they call the slab

city shower area

okay so so think about this for a minute well overall what we're doing here is

we're getting the runoff from the dead skin cells of the hot springs right

there okay and then all of that nasty dirty water is what people go down here

in the ladder and use debates to get queens here at Slab City do I even have

to tell you how gross that is maybe they just try not to think about it or

something

so my popular demand guys and we're gonna go talk to a van dweller here in

Slab City friend of mine we're gonna talk to go granny Joe here and see what

she's got going on in her van over here hi everybody I am go granny Joe as I'm

known out here or just plain old granny gire and and ie and that's how you spell

it anyway but this is my 1990 Dodge Ram 350

I came from Missouri I found it in Missouri I drove five four three years I

asked the guy and he says oh I think a thousand I go oh yeah cuz it is complete

I have a refrigerator a bathroom bed came with the microwave so I sold my cow

and I went and got BB this is what I call her I sold all my pigs we put new

tires on it I sold my goats I had myotonic fainting

goats and they put the whole new engine new brakes everything

so that is how I got started the reason I'm out here is I watch too many of

Eric's videos so clear back into 14 and 15 I was watching him filing in August

of 16 I sold everything off by choice and Here I am today I left

oops winds blowing sorry in October of 16 hurt my knee ended up in Texas that

my girlfriend spent six months in rehab while I was there and bebe got a paint

job done by me I have pictures I can give to Eric maybe he'll show you what

she looked like when we first started so anyway this is my life my love

he weighs 100 pounds because okay he likes what does he eat does he

vegetables and fruits yeah he does so well you just had his piece of fruit for

the day um he gets pellets in the morning they're specially designed for

many pigs and then it morning and night and then in the afternoon we both have a

huge salad okay yum lots of veggies life is rough

Should You Change Your Car's Automatic Transmission Fluid? Myth Busted with Scotty Kilmer - Duration: 4:34.

It's time for the Scotty Kilmer Channel

today I'm going to talk about the myth of lifetime automatic transmission fluid,

I'm always being to asked by people, Scotty it says that the transmission fluid in my

car is lifetime, I never need to change it, what do you think about that, well

basically I think that it's just a dirty little lie, because they're using the

word lifetime in a different manner than most people actually will, I even asked an

auto engineer one time, what do you mean by lifetime automatic fluid, and they

said, well the fluid should last the lifetime of the transmission, and then he

said, oh you never have to change the fluid, because it lasts as long as the

transmission lasts, but I said hey, how long is the transmission going to last,

because if you look up powertrain warranties, hey there's six years

70,000 miles, four years 50,000 miles, four year 50,000 miles,

some of them go five years 100,000 miles, but they do stop, so if the transmission

breaks down after the warranty, because the fluids dirty and it's broken things

down inside, guess what, you're the one that's going to pay thousands and

thousands of dollars for another transmission or a full rebuild, there's

lots of parts inside a modern automatic transmission, and they all have to be

pressure lubricated with clean fluid, and the gears inside have very close

tolerances, even wear of a few thousandths of an inch from dirty fluid

can make them work poorly, and to add insult to injury, unlike my old Toyota

here, which has a dipstick for the automatic transmissions, many cars don't

have one, you can't even check the fluids yourself anymore, jacking a car up and

just taking out a drain plug and changing the fluid like it used to be,

some modern cars it takes all kinds of equipment and skills just to change the

fluid, because they made these bizarre little things you have to do to change

it, and if you try changing the fluid yourself, look what you have to do on

this two-year old Chrysler, you got to do all kinds of stuff, you got to have a scan

tool, you got to do all these different tests, put the brake on, put it in reverse

for five seconds, place it and drive hold it for five seconds, release the brakes,

and accelerate to second gear, it's absolutely insane what they

expect you to do to change this fluid, so of course most people are never going to

attempt it themselves, and they'll believe, oh it's a lifetime fluid, we'll

just leave it in and not worry about it, but that's a big mistake, because yes the

metallurgy and the transmissions and the modern synthetic fluids, are much better

than they used to be, but look at this, I took this out of a transmission that at

60,000 miles of lifetime fluid in it, it's supposed to be red and you can see

it's pretty much turned black, now 90% of transmission failures occur because of

heat, and the fluid has a lot to do with that, dirty fluid will cause carbon

buildup, the seals in the clutches will start to burn out, the plates will slip,

varnish forms, and you don't want all that happen inside a clean automatic

transmission, and dirty fluid causes wear, the seals can get dirt on them

from that, and then they'll start leaking, you don't want to have dirty

transmission fluid period, now sure you don't have to change it every 30,000 miles

like we used to in the old automatics, but still, I would advise changing at

least every sixty to eighty thousand miles, if you want to keep your car a

long time, so if you ask any honest mechanic about this lifetime fluid, they'll

tell you the truth, that it's a lot of baloney if you want to keep your car

a long time, and my automatic transmission specialist in Baytown Texas, he says the

same thing, and you'd think, hey if it did wear them out, he'd make more money

selling transmissions to people, but he's honest, and he says you got to change this

fluid if you want the transmissions to last a long time, so now you know the

truth about lifetime automatic transmission fluids, that you really

should change it, unless you like the idea of short lifetimes,
