JOGOS VELHOS - Charlie, the duck - #01 - Duration: 14:35.

Welcome back to Porco Princesa

And today we're gonna make something I've wanted to do for a long time.

Play the games I used to play on computer as a child.

My father is a computer technician and has always worked with computers

So I had access to computer from a very young age.

But there was a time in my life that I didn't have

a good enough computer to play games.

And now that I have a good computer, what do I want

to do? I want to play games from my childhood.

I want to know which of them are good

which of them are bad

Which of them pass the fifteen years tests

And which of them pass the 20 years tests,

And with this I'm making very clear how old I am.

I'm 28 btw. (almost wrote 38 by accident)

And today we're gonna start with: [cheerful] Charlie the duck!

Oh my god, I was the best at this game.

The problem is: I don't know why, when I was a child

I though this game only had one level

And it's not because I couldn't beat them

as I knew all the level secrets

But I don't know why, I thought it only had one level.

And what's my surprise when I went on Steam

And first, this game was there to buy,

[laughs] Which is crazy!

And second: I found out the game has nine levels.

[suprised] Nine levels! How?

I have the clear sensation I just played one level

when I was a child

Besides that, now the game has a million achievements

Which means I'll spend the rest of my life trying to

achieve them all.

I don't know exactly in which year the original version (actually 1996)

of this game was launched.

But I remember I had it about 15 years ago.

I would took it to school in a

floppy disk because we had computer classes

and in computer class there was only

two games: Carmen Sandiego's,

and those math games

that all schools had at the time.

So I recorded Charlie the duck on a floppy

and took it to school. And instead of playing

Carmen Sandiego or Math games

We'd play Charlie the duck. And I installed on all

computer, because of course

I wouldn't let my friends sadly playing math games.

And this was our fun on computer classes.

Playing Charlie the duck

By the way, if anyone knows where to find Carmen Sandiego's game

Leave a comment here because I really want to play it again

I hope you like this 2nd first impression of Charlie the duck

And I hope you like the game because it's a super fun game.

Look at this Charlie the duck! [midi song playing on the background]

Guys, this game was MS-DOS

That's insane, right?

I'm not believing I'm seeing this game on fullscreen

in 1920x1080, that's insane!

Let's play!

Ohhh!

It's a side-scroll, right, like Mario,

Only just it's a duck.

Then there's this things...

There's a place...

I don't remember exactly where. In this level,

Because as I said I only played this level.

That you have to jump on to...

you have to jump on to two animals in a row,

so you can reach the place, so you can get the...

I don't know if it's a diamond or a heart, I don't remember.

There are places that... Oh, it was to the other side there, see?

You have to jump on the thingy.

So you can reach, but instead you die touching the bee.

There are some places where you can....

first go on top of trees.

Stand on top of this tree here.

I don't think you can on this one.

And there are places you can... I'm already dead,

But...

There are places you can go inside the water

and it takes you to another... another part of the level.

It's very much like Mario, guys.

Geez, I loved this game.

I was like on fifth grade...

Fifth, maybe sixth grade at the time I played this game.

And I'm dead again.

It's that thing that I keep talking and don't pay attention to what I'm doing, right?

Here, I think this tree... See? this tree you can go on top of.

This one too.

There was supposed to be something here, but there's not.

Why would you be able to go on top of a tree and there's nothing there?

And goes on to try and find something on top of the tree for the next 5 minutes,

JK

I don't know how I was good at this game, honestly.

Here look, you can go in this one.

Then there's an...

See guys, these things here!

These were the goods of the games from that era, (there goes the checkpoint)

because you had to...

figure out that things existed. And I'm gonna die to this bee.

No I'm not.

Oh, I died to the purple thing.

Here.

Like, on fifth grade I had...

I had a uniball signo scents collection.

I don't know if...

I don't know if people remember those.

Probably they do.

But there was a pen scented like...

Oh, there was a pen scented like popcorn, and tutti-frutti, where am I going?

OH, I'm back at the beginning. And I'm dead again.

But there was a tutti-frutti pen,

and the popcorn pen, it was unreal.

And the popcorn pen, the smell was very real.

There are more things this way.

Oh, it's the part of the level I was on.

So it means that when you pass...

Guys, I didn't remember anything of this.

When you go through the water you come back, you

go through a whole part of the level.

Good to know right?

I could be what? Winning in life,

without comming back here, but at least... Here!

I passed and I got the... checkpoint, right!

You get the checkpoin there.

Oh, I really wanted to remember where I get the...

This sign the dev said that he had to

add this... little sign here,

saying Charlie can dive in the water

because many people didn't know that

Many people that played the game recently,

didn't find out Charlie could dive in the water.

Oh, this is the hidden area.

Then there's this thing like Mario's,

that kills all the animals.

and then I'm remembering that everytime I did this

that I played this part.

Of course I'd run and

kill the little animals like a crazy lady like this

and then this happened whenever I got to the part

where I lost the thingy, I'd always endup dying.

Oh, it's this one I have to jump on

the animal to reach the uo there

Man, I don't believe I got here.

In one attempt and I don't even know what was the thing I got.

There was a place,

that I remember everytime

I... I can't go in here.

I'd kill the animal that I needed. Look!

We got to the end of the level!

Oh, I remember this level.

Why did I think this game only had one level?

Oh...

I needed that animal here, see?

To get up there? Maybe not. Wo...

[laughs]

It was not what I meanted but ok.

Since it happened.

You know why people never found out

about the hidden area when you go inside the water?

Because people were good players.

If they were bad ones like me,

They would know very quickly, see?

Because they would mess up like...

Why are there 50 thousand bees here? Why?

I remember there was a part you had to jump

in two enemies in a row.

But I don't remember where it is.

I'm sure I'll get it wrong, kill the animal and

have to come back later.

There, the checkpoint. Let me get the checkpoint first.

Yeeeeee...

How about I die first before I reach the checkpoint?

And have to start the level all over again?

It's exactly what I wanted.

Oh guys, this song is so quiet...

And I'm so tense.

My neck is hard with tension.

I'm more tense than I get when I play Mad Max.

How should I do this, lord?

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh....

[no breath] I reached the checkpoint!

I got the checkpoint now... Oh, I got a heart!

I won't die now, Oh my god!

Let's win this level! Where am I going?

(The tension was so that I forgot how to speak)

Uuuhhhhhh

Ahh

Grraa

It's it's, let's... it's, it's...

Why, How, When?

I should have gone straight, right?

I should not have gon... and... dead.

Wow! Look!

I should have but I didn't even see it.

And we reached the end of the level.

Oh that thing I jumped and got up there.

That I jumped the enemy to reach was a life.

I remembered it now!

This one I don't remember.

I think I just walked the first and second levels.

I think I never won the second level, must be it.

Yes, I'll try and kill this fish, will I get it?

[surprised] Look!

This level I don't even remotely know what's in it.

[laughs] Will I pass this? Absolutely not.

Oh, but if I fall on the water I don't die, right?

Less bad.

[bnad northeast accent] Wow, let's kill this piranha from hell, boy!

You see? I could be here, living my life.

Here on the penthouse.

Wow, there could be a way to pass the level

just walkin on the trees right?

Wouldn't that be amazing?

Oh guys, these piranhas.

Oh so i don't die to the piranhas but I die to the other animal.

Oh, I wanted to kill the piranha to get up there

and get those boxes.

What happened?

Was this the beginning of the level? No, right?

Oh, I thought I had died, didn't I?

Ok then. (I died but it decided to revive me in a random checkpoint)

Guys.

Doesn't this piranha look like a Goldeen?

I don't know, it reminded me of that, maybe the colors.

Yes, now I'm dead, absolutely.

And then when I'm not trying to kill the fish... See, again.

I tried not to kill and then, I kill it the right way.

I think I have to start doing that

Try not to kill and then kill it the right way.

And then when I go to put the highlighs of this game

there won't be any, because I didn't do anything interesting

Just died.

Guys, there has to be a way to kill this thing here.

I just don't know how.

And now I have no life, no hearts.

So I won't even try.

["crying"] I need a heart!

On the checkpoint. I found a heart, sirs!

I died. I just lost it again.

What do I want sirs? [surprised] Wow!

I found a hidden heart!

I just lost it again!

I just died!

[laughing] it sucks!

I found a hidden heart

and lost the game! [laughs]

I hope you liked it

I had lots of fun! I love this game!

So, you saw the three first world's levels

And there's another 2 worlds

If you want to buy it, it's very cheap on Steam

because this game is very old.

Stop Chasing Shiny Objects with your Marketing - Duration: 5:14.

- One of the most facepalm worthy things I see brands

falling for all of the time is Shiny Object Marketing.

- Look, something shiny.

- Shiny Object Marketing is the affliction

that leads clients and quite often agencies,

to run towards technology or ideas

because they are popular or cool,

not because they actually work to help your brand

connect with your customers.

Current shiny objects are stuff like blockchain,

VR and augmented reality.

Now, these may very well become incredibly useful

marketing tactics and tools, but at the moment,

there are more people waving them around as solutions

than there are people who understand how they actually work.

So, today I'm going to talk about how we identify

what is shiny object marketing,

why running after it is bad for your brand,

and how to determine if something is a shiny object

or actually useful in connecting with your customers

hopefully helping you talk your clients down

from their latest distraction.

- Good luck with that.

- My name is Tara and this is Truly Social.

(upbeat happy music)

- Much like any bubble that's about to pop in human history,

there are some telltale signs that something is in

the shiny object or trend phase.

Number one, lots of people are talking about it,

but it's still not entirely clear what it is.

- Ninety percent of the time,

I have no idea what the beep I'm talking about.

- In fact, most people talking about it don't seem

to quite know what it is.

So, if you keep hearing about a technology or an idea,

but nobody can explain it to you in layman's terms,

you should probably steer clear for now.

Number two, people around you are saying things like,

"What is our insert trend here strategy?"

- We need some fresh, hip strategies

to expand our market share.

- I've heard this phrase so many times over the years.

"What is our Meerkat strategy?"

"What is our VR strategy?"

"What is our chatbot strategy?"

and now "What is our blockchain strategy?"

Also to note, if there are lots of experts and gurus

that have just become expert and gurus on the subject

but have never actually implemented anything,

you've got yourself a bit of a bubble.

- Buck Wilson, now there was a risk management expert.

- Now, of course, this bubble may well pop and leave us

with a more reasonable, but completely relevant tactic,

but that's when it's good to get in.

But Tara, what about innovating?

What about being a leader?

You telling me to be a laggard?

No listen, there is not a first mover advantage

to jumping on these trends,

especially when some of them involve

very expensive technologies.

You not gonna miss out or look like a me too if you sit back

and let these things bake a bit.

Think about stuff like social media and content marketing.

Now that the frothiness has died down and well, we know

how it works and what to do with it,

there are lots of brands implementing this successfully.

But if you continue to chase shiny objects,

you will hurt your brand.

How?

- I'd also like to know the answer to that.

- Well number one, many companies who chase shiny objects

do it at the expense of engaging real life customers.

While you're off doing that cool thing,

you're missing out on figuring out what your customers

actually want from you.

I'm not sure what's going to happen to that ice tea

lemonade company that pivoted to blockchain

and got a temporary stock bump,

but what I do know is that I'd be upset if I was a fan

of their beverage and I heard that news.

- Peach ice tea.

You're gonna hate it.

- It feels like a complete disregard

of their current customers.

The second reason why chasing shiny objects

will hurt your brand is because it's expensive.

If you've got endless bags of money

to experiment with marketing trends, go for it.

- I finally get why people wanna be rich.

- But I know very few brands even the big ones,

that can afford to do that.

You not only throw that money down the tube,

but you also miss out on the chance to put that money

towards something that could actually work,

and I've seen this happen.

Now, the key here is how you figure out

what could actually work and this comes down to

knowing your audience, doing your research.

Listen, if your audience are early adopting

Bitcoin investor types, by all means,

get on that Blockchain thing.

It makes perfect sense.

If your audience is 20 somethings who were raised

on Pokemon cards and are now big mobile gamers,

a Pokemon augmented reality game is sure to be a huge hit.

- If this is about Pokemon again, I..

- The key here is in knowing who they are,

their level of understanding,

their media consumption preferences and habits,

their time and attention levels,

their affinities, and their hopes, fears and desires.

Sure, something may be cool,

but is it going to help them get made, paid or laid?

- That's a damn good question.

- You need to ask, "What's in it for them?"

and then look at these shiny new tactics

and see if they align.

If they don't understand the blockchain or own VR goggles,

you've just put another layer of distance between you

and their attention.

You may actually end up having to market your marketing.

- You don't want to do that.

- When it comes to marketing strategy,

the key here is strategy.

For more on strategy and other such topics,

check out my channel and subscribe and or follow me

wherever you're watching this.

Funniest Mardi Gras ever! The Iowa Chicken Run in Louisiana - Duration: 8:26.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras!

One of the most traditional and fun Mardi Gras events

in southwestern Louisiana

is something called Iowa Chicken Run

It looks like we're going to run after some chickens here

I have no idea what to expect

Look at me!

What happens here?

What is gonna happen?

We're all gonna line up in the parade

and we're gonna walk out to the store

And Mr. Rodney, my father-in-law, right there

is gonna do a dance and he's gonna

throw the chicken up

and the kids are gonna run and grab it

Only the kids run after the chicken?

No, not only. The adults can run too

Hope you all enjoy, ok?

Thanks so much!

We gonna throw some chickens. I wanna see y'all run some chickens. Ok?

_ "We are ready!" _ "Alright!"

Some of them get away and some of them we end up catching. But the most funniest thing is

as you pass through highway, two days later

and that same rooster that we lost is walking across the road. Like, I'm saved! I'm saved!

We're going on a hayride and each one has it's own bathroom

Happy Mardi Gras!

Where's the chicken?

Oh, you got it!

How hard was it?

Not that hard. The kid caught it

I'm just helping my cousin bring it back to the trailer

So what's your favorite part of all this?

I don't like to run the chickens

It's going from the yard to yard. You know? And dancing...

and they giving us food to come back and make the gumbo. That's, that's my favorite part

So, I like the begging

Because if they don't have anything to give us

then we don't stop. We keep going. So you have to show us either a bag of rice...

something that goes into the gumbo

Right

And then once you get back is when you normally prepare the gumbo

for everyone to eat, who participate in

But, because it's gotten so much bigger, we just go and pay for it out of pocket

So, whatever... We go and get back... Sometimes we have to use what they give us if we have a big crowd

You know, because later on tonight, a dance is gonna happen, and people are gonna come out

and the gumbo is free. So you actually eat all you want

Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Happy, happy!

Swallow it. Don't chew it. Swallow it!

That's a different way of having tequila

Yeah! Did you want?

No, no. I won't try it

Anybody else? Come on!

No, thank you!

I'm fine, thank you!

I have one more jar

No, that's alright

Juice? Ahhh

Very good, very good!

Thank you, ladies

Is it all gone?

Oh! You want one?

No, I'm fine

No!

I'm just curious!

Wait, sweetie

I came prepared!

Ready, ready?

What's there exactly?

Tequila and gummy bears... 1800...

Whew! Happy Mardi Gras!

Candy! Candy!

Got some chicken, give me some dance, come on!

Along the way they also get some donations to prepare a gumbo. That's what all the celebration was about

Here we go again!

I got the chicken! It's going, baby!

Get him a break, take another one out

One more time!

Here we go!

She was fun!

Happy Mardi Gras!

For the gumbo!

Yeah, you gotta go!

Go, go, go, go!

All chickens survive in the end

So this here is a whole day event

Now they're going to get all the ingredients

that they collected,

prepare a gumbo, eat together, celebrate!

It's amazing!

We're gonna go actually to our next location as there's more Mardi Gras to see here, in Lake Charles

_ "Happy Mardi Gras!" _ "Same to you!"

Bye!

Thank you!

It's ok...

I'm sorry!

How To Find YOUR Art Style 【My Tips & Tricks】 - Duration: 10:50.

hey everyone welcome back to my channel I'm brushes bunnies and in this video

I'm going to be talking about how I found my art style I just want to say

that an art style is ever-evolving I truly believe in that I feel like

currently I'm in a position where I I have found something but I'm developing

something that I really love the direction that I'm going into is

something that I'm kind of I'm quite passionate about and I feel like it's

truly my style like my own brushes and bunny style but I feel like in the

future this style will be developing even further and this is something that

I I just want to say that de style that I'm currently working on it's not the

end-all be-all of everything like okay that's my style that's it that's all I

know that it's going to evolve but I feel like I'm already on to something

and I'm so happy to finally be able to say like hey guys like I kind of do have

a style like it's just something that I'm learning to accept currently because

for so long I've just been in the mental position of being like I need to find a

style I need to find a style I need to keep pushing I need to get better you

know that's like it's been over a year if just me thinking that way you know

just having to try to push and develop something and I feel like I'm finally on

to something so I want to share my insights with you guys my tips and

tricks of how I sort of found myself in this current position and I'm gonna talk

about the things that have to work for me in terms of developing some sort of

style before we get to the topic however I just want to talk about two topics the

first one is my live streams for April you guys have selected the sketchbook

slam challenge for the March live stream topic and I'm going to be posting a poll

today and my YouTube community tab where you guys can vote up onto the themes for

the April live stream topic or a theme I am so excited and a little bit nervous

again and so under this poll you guys can vote on your favorite topic and

whatever one wins is the one that we'll be doing for the month of April I'll be

live-streaming every Saturday at 3 p.m. Central European Time I believe that's

the timezone I'm under Central European Time Berlin time

I should say and you guys can catch my life streams every Saturday the second

topic this is a big one we have reached over 50,000 subscribers I am so like

what like oh like thank you guys so much I'm so grateful and um you guys keep

inspiring me and motivating me to continue and to just you know push

myself to the limit basically and just kind of like grow even more just do more

more than I could ever do and that's all thanks to you guys I'll be hosting a

YouTube giveaway on my channel of course the YouTube giveaway over the Easter

holidays I have not decided if I'm going to upload the giveaway video on Thursday

before the Easter holiday or on Sunday this is all we're gonna see I have to

think about it I don't even know what I'm gonna give away I kind of do but I

don't I have to figure out the logistics of it but there will be a giveaway to

show my my gratitude to all of your support so 50,000 of you guys like the

big milestone I think it's a really big milestone alright guys so let's get to

the actual topic I'm gonna give you guys my tips and tricks of how I found my own

art style the first tip I can give you is perhaps the most important one and it

was definitely a major key player in my own understanding of kind of the future

path of where I wanted to develop my drawing style and that was basically

just surrounding yourself with artists that completely inspire you take a look

at artists online either over Instagram this was a major kind of social media

platform that I used to find artists and you can also find artists of course via

YouTube as well or do be an art basically find artists that you admire

that you look up to that you love the way that they do their work and that

baby one day this is sort of the style you would like to take up for yourself

this definitely helped in terms of finding my own path

there were a couple of artists that I follow in YouTube that I I still look up

to completely in terms of how they draw their characters and also how they do

their watercolor work I am actually going to list them off and I'll be

providing the links down below to their Instagram pages the first one in terms

of drawing characters was an artist by the name of Linda I believe Linda Israel

OVA I found her on Instagram and I completely found it fell in love with

the way that she drew her male characters or just characters in general

I just loved the the way that she used these really strong angular features for

her characters and I I really studied the way that she drew and I learned a

lot from her so definitely check out her Instagram page another one that I really

love is of course Kellogg's Loops especially for the

watercolor aspect they do beautiful work absolutely beautiful work another one is

actually Carla who is galih I don't really know how to pronounce her

name but she does beautiful pinups and I love the way that she does watercolor

and I also love the way that she characterizes her her female characters

I think they look gorgeous and another one that I recently found is actually

Justin Justin O'Neal you can see his Instagram he does kind of more like

these creepy art characters these could be like watercolors and also digital art

I believe I love the way that he draws his characters I think it's so unique

and it's really really cool and I do inspire a lot from him as well there's a

lot more artists out there but I think the most important thing is to really

find people you look up to people that you want to maybe have a similar style

as them and use them as a source of inspiration study how they draw their

own characters a lot of these artists will be posting like these videos on

their Instagram or their YouTube videos like YouTube channel on how to basically

draw so you can basically get some good insights from them directly

tip number two would be in regards to your general mindset and I think this is

super important to address and it's definitely a really big factor in

basically allowing yourself the freedom to develop your own style what I mean by

that is basically at the beginning of starting this whole sort of art journey

of trying to figure out yourself and where you want to go which style you

want to you know basically develop in it can be pretty stressful and it can be

very unfulfilling and also frustrating and I'm telling you this because I

definitely went through it about a year ago when I first started this and even

before in late 2016 I was in a position where I really wanted to have my own

style and I just didn't know how to approach it this did lead to

frustrations of course because I didn't know which direction I wanted to go into

I didn't know what sort of style I wanted to develop what if I wanted to do

like realism or just a cartoon character or cartoon style these are all questions

that I had to answer myself and it's it can be stressful I totally understand it

and what I can tell you in terms of like how to change or how to fix this is that

it really gets better with time I think it's one of those things that you can't

stress out about you can't force it's just one of those things that will just

happen even for myself that moment of like the lightbulb moment of oh my gosh

I think this is where I want to go only really happened about six to eight

months after I really kept pushing myself to draw I didn't have this Eureka

moment right away it came just just it just came I don't really know how to

explain it other than that which is why it's quite important to just say it

don't stress it guys if you keep practicing on a daily basis and you're

enjoying it and you're just you're just challenging yourself continuously the

style will just start to develop over time tip number three is kind of a fun

one and that is just to experiment so if you think okay maybe you want to try the

manga style or maybe you want to try realism then give it a try don't stick

to one thing at the very beginning try different styles right away I definitely

did the I have a couple different sketchbooks

filled with different types of styles I tried realism I tried to do realistic

portraits I tried to do cartoon sort of characters and I also dabbled a little

bit into manga at one point in my life so I did try different techniques

different styles and basically I gave it a shot for each of them I really tried

and this is this is a good exercise to do especially if you don't really know

which direction you want to go into and what ended up happening was I really

ended up liking sort of this in-between style of realism as well as a little bit

more of a cartoon or characterized I guess style and I try to mend both of

these characteristics together to create something a little bit different and

this is sort of the direction that I'm currently going into so really give it a

shot to try different styles experiment with different ways of drawing and see

what sticks what do you like what do you feel really passionate about and

basically start to go into that direction so those are my three tips on

how to find your art style to just resize number one of course look up to

artists or study the way that your favorite artists do the things that they

do if you want that to be a similar style to you to yours then study what

they do how they draw really kind of look at them closely and and try to to

practice based on their techniques tip number two again don't stress it out the

style will come over time if you continue to draw if you continue to work

in these sort of direction you want to go into the style will develop and it

will just happen and tip number three again just to Risa mirai's you if you're

not sure of what style you want to pursue try different ones don't be

afraid to experiment try different styles and give them a shot and see

which one sticks on which one you are really liking and then you have an idea

of which one to pursue as always I'd like to thank you guys for watching this

video if you do like it don't forget to give it a big thumbs up I am super

grateful for your support yeah I want to wish you a good day

wherever you are in the world keeping awesome keep drawing never give up and

we will see each other very soon bye

RAISE your landscape PHOTOGRAPHY game using LONG EXPOSURE - Duration: 12:25.

Hi I'm Adam and welcome to first man photography today I'm in Whitby where we're

going to be talking about how to use long exposure photography to up your

photography game let's go

before we get into this today this video is sponsored by Squarespace if you need

a domain name, a website or an online store then make your next move with

Squarespace since I was in Glencoe in January I have not been out to shoot any

landscape photography and that's because Glencoe was just so epic but I was

really happy with the shots I captured and like I've mentioned before when I am

doing landscape photography particularly I ride a wave there are ups there are

downs and when I hit high like Glencoe there's always a slump afterwards where

my creativity just eludes me for a little bit and it takes some time to get

things back and going again one of the things is to employ different techniques

and that is what I do with long exposure photography so I'm going to talk you

through some of the things to do to start shooting some really nice long

exposure images and just gives you another technique to be more creative

and create something different to everything else you see there are a few

things you're gonna need though in order to do that and we'll talk about that in

a minute but isn't it just absolutely brilliant

being at the beach the feeling I always used to get when I was younger as you

drive down to the coast that first sight you get of the sea it's just so exciting

my kids get excited about it now and I still feel excited in the very same way

you then get out the car in a place like Whitby you can smell the sea air the

fish and chips it's just a really quite a special thing at the seaside so the

things you need are firstly a scene to shoot and I've come here to just by

Whitby Abbey and I've got this view down to the harbour and the bells going off.....

I wonder what time it is.....

so I have Whitby harbour here and it's perfect for a long

exposure because you need to have two elements you need to have something is

moving and then something that's static in your image because it's lengthening

exposure and smoothing out that out that movement that creates the interest in a

long exposure shot and makes it different from a normal static shot so

after that it's about gear really and you're going to need a camera that has a

bulb mode or a timer in order to push your exposure longer than 30 seconds

you're then going to need a filter an ND filter a solid ND filter of either six

ten or even sixteen stops which I'm using for this shot here you're also

going to need tripod because any movement in your camera will lose sharpness out of

your image so a nice sturdy tripod is a recommendation and then also you need to

if you're using a DSLR you need to cover the eyepiece because light can creep in

through the eyepiece and during a three minutes plus exposure that can really

damage your image and make very strange things happen. So once we've done that

we need to compose a shot and that's what I've done here I've got the Harbour

sort of leading you up into those small lighthouses at the end of the harbor and

it's going to be a really straightforward image I've got the sea

or horizon going along the top of the rule of thirds line and that's going to

be my shot and as I smooth out the water and smooth out the clouds it'll be quite

an interesting image so then it's about firstly taking a normal exposure so we

can then adjust our exposure time depending on what that is so for this

scene it's one three hundred and twentieth of a second at f/8 and ISO 100

that's for my normal exposure and then I need to use an app or a exposure

calculator to work out how long that exposure is going to be so in this case

it is three minutes 20 seconds I use photo pills app there are loads out there

that will work out your exposure time before you put your filter on though you

need to make sure you have your focus locked because once you attach that dark

filter to the front of the camera the camera will not know what to do because

it won't be able to see in a normal way so you need to get your focus locked and

then switch to manual focus so we're not going to get any focusing issues also

you need to turn your IS off if you have image stabilization because that can

introduce some movement into the image as well and we don't want that it's

quite windy at the moment so with that kind of exposure I am going to get a

slight amount of movement which will reduce the sharpness a little bit but it

shouldn't be too bad so once we've done that we just need to punch in our

exposure time on this Canon 5d Mark 4 it lets you do it with a built-in bulb

timer if you don't have one of them you're going to need to put in a shutter

release cable and just turn it into build mode and then lock off your

exposure for as long as you have decided it needs to be and then just time it

with your phone or some of the shutter release cables actually have a time

so I'm gonna go ahead I've got the bulb mode set I've got the timer set and I'm

just gonna use the 2 second timer so there's no movement in the camera and

then go ahead and shoot

okay so I'm set up for my second shot of the day just as the Sun is moving into

golden hour, one of the really nice things about long exposure photography

is it really says to the viewer that it's not just a snap shot you have

literally put the time and the effort in to capture something different than

anyone else walking by would have captured and this is quite a good

example of what I've got set up here and where you can really use long exposure

to your advantage so across the harbor there towards the other harbor wall

there is this really interesting ladder and the composition I have is just with

that ladder in the scene and then the the harbor wall essentially filling the

middle of the frame with the horizon on the top rule of thirds and then the on

the bottom of the wall on the bottom rule of thirds I have the 70-200

mm lens on there and I'm zoomed fairly well in at about 100 millimetres

on that ladder and with the layers of the seaweed and the moss and the brick

in the shape it's all working perfectly for a long exposure because there's some

really interesting textures in that wall and that ladder and then that's

contrasted against the really smoothed out water and then the smoothed out sky when

I do the long exposure so for this one I only have a 10 stop filter for this lens

so it is going to be a 51 second exposure and that's still enough to

smooth out the water and smooth out the sky and create that effect that I'm

looking for. The type of ND filter that you use really depends on your budget

this one which I'm testing out today for the first time is a very very cheap one

this was about 20 pounds and it fits on the front of the 70-200 I have used

expensive ones I've used cheap ones this is actually looking to be pretty decent

it doesn't introduce a color cast or anything like that so I'm fairly

impressed so far and long exposure photography does not have to be

expensive on top of what you've got this is a

ten stop one like I said but yeah pretty good.

Another great thing about

long exposure is that if you have people walking through your scene and

particularly in a busy tourist area like this you can remove them from the

shot using the long exposure because as long as they keep moving through your

scene they won't be captured at any one point and it's a really good technique

for removing people from your scene so I'm all set up to take this shot I have

the bulb timer on again I'm at f/16 it's gonna be a 51 second exposure

iso100 hoping that nice golden light stays on the wall

shoot that wait 51 seconds let's have a look

So I'm all setup up for my last shot of the day and I've had to have a bit of a mad

dash down to the next town or village from Whitby down to Sandsend because

the tide as you can see has come right in and there was no beach left at

Whitby. So i had to rush dow...... I'm worried about the sea cathcing my feet

here had to rush down to Sandsend because I wanted to finish the day with

a seascape with long exposure when it comes to sunsets which it is about now

long exposure is not the best thing to capture a sunset especially if you've

got the Sun in the image because you can imagine as the exposure goes the Sun is

moving through scene so it just doesn't look right

what long exposure is absolutely perfect for though is that time after sunset

which we're just getting into now as then that's normally the time that the color

fills the sky if you've got a good sunset and using long exposure to

capture that is great because what it does is as that color develops and as

the color moves at different spots through the sky if you're exposing all

the time that that's happening the image will capture all of that color so

actually you capture a little bit more color than you would normally capture

with just a very quick exposure image and that's exactly what I'm doing here

so for my composition I'm using these I don't know what the called..... I do

know the name but I've forgotten these poles leading into the sea and then I've

got the sea washing up just over this wall here which I'm stood on the tide is

coming in so I'm probably gonna get wet feet very shortly

that's my composition from the bottom right hand corner up into the image and

then just smoothing out that sea with a nice long exposure then capturing as

much color in the sky as I can at the moment I have a six stop filter on there

because as it gets the end of the day and the light comes down a six stop

filter it's good for just extending that exposure to around a minute to two

minutes depending on the light so the good thing about the six stop filter is

your camera can still see through it so you can still compose through the liveview

you can't really see through the viewfinder we can still compose through

the live view when it compensates for that. Sunset wise tonight are we gonna

get any colour... huh....I don't really know because at the other side there is the

wall here for the road but at the other side of that where the Sun is actually

setting behind you there there is a massive bank of

horizon cloud so there's not gonna be any massive color but I do have some

very high altitude cloud here which could still catch some color maybe 20

minutes after the Sun sets. So I'm gonna wait around for

that and try and capture that in this long exposure

I might experiment with different things you can experiment with different

lengths of exposure to get different effects in the water if you want some

swirling do it for a bit shorter a few seconds even and you can really

experiment using your long exposures and use it creatively and it's another technique

just to get the creative juices flowing and that's exactly what I use it for

anyway stick around to the end for the image and a really awesome

time-lapse to finish the day as well but I really hope you've enjoyed the video
