2018 Korea Content Awards commemorates works that have promote its excellence to the world - Duration: 2:44.

The popularity of South Korean cultural content... is growing rapidly.

Last year,... the industry's revenues topped 100 billion U.S. dollars,... almost on par

with that of memory chips,... the country's key export item.

An annual event was held in Seoul's COEX mall... to commemorate those who contributed greatly

to this booming sector.

Won Jung-hwan takes us to the Korea Content Awards.

Organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency and the Ministry of Culture,... this annual

award ceremony is dedicated to local content creators... commemorating their achievements

and hard work.

In this year's event,... which marks its 10th anniversary,... 32 people received awards

in five categories,... including cartoons, animation, excellence in broadcasting, and

performance in foreign markets.

And among the people who received the presidential commendation award,… the highest honor at

the event,... two individuals were singled out for praise... for their contributions

to overseas market expansion.

Kim Chang-han, the CEO of game developer PUBG,... which created the smash-hit first-person shooter

Battleground,... received the award for the game's remarkable export growth to global

markets.

"It is a great honor to have been recognized that Battleground, a game made in Korea, is

contributing to promote Korea's content industry overseas."

Since the game's release last year,... the company has received critical acclaim, and

a thriving player community has emerged all around the world,... with more than four-hundred

million players worldwide.

Battleground has set seven Guinness World Records and won multiple game awards.

Aside from Korean content targeting adults,… children's entertainment company Pinkfong

was also awarded... in recognition of its contribution in promoting Korean culture abroad.

"I have learned a lot of things from watching children come together through Pinkfong.

First, that Korean content can meld into the global platform, and second, that content

providers should take responsibility for influencing young children."

Pinkfong's videos have been among the most popular content on YouTube for children and

their parents,… accumulating over a billion-and-a-half views worldwide.

S. Korean researchers to end on-site inspections of N. Korea's western rail line on Wed. - Duration: 0:48.

Let's start things off with the latest in Seoul and Pyeongyang's cross-border railway

project.

A group of South Korean researchers will wrap up inspections... of North Korea's western

Gyeongui rail line tomorrow,... and return home in the afternoon.

Another team from Seoul will cross the border on Saturday,... for a survey of the eastern

Donghae rail line this time.

South Korean train cars being used for the inspections... will move to the city of Wonsan

in the North,... where they'll stay linked up with the regime's locomotives and train

cars.

Regarding concerns over the security of resources in the train cars like oil,...

Seoul emphasized the two Koreas are conducting the project upon a foundation of trust...

and that locking devices are also in place.

The joint survey of North Korea's railways began last Friday,... and the entire process

is expected to be completed by December 17th.

South Korea-U.S. working group to hold second meeting sometime this week: S. Korean official - Duration: 0:41.

Seoul and Washington's newly-established working group on North Korea... is scheduled to hold

its second meeting sometime this week.

According to a senior official from South Korea's foreign ministry,... the meeting is

expected to take place via a video conference call.

The group, led by nuclear envoys from the two sides,... was created late last month,

to strengthen bilateral cooperation on denuclearization efforts, implementation of UN sanctions...

and ways the two Koreas can work together within the framework of sanctions.

The senior official added... a ministerial meeting is also scheduled for this week...

while Seoul's foreign minister Kang Kyung-wha is in the U.S. to attend the funeral of the

late American president, George H.W. Bush.

S. Korea and U.S. haven't yet decided on next year's joint military drills: VOA - Duration: 1:50.

Seoul and Washington were expected to confirm whether or not they're suspending next year's

joint military drills by the start of December.

Right now, it looks like the allies have not made up their minds yet.

Our defense ministry correspondent Park Ji-won fills us in on the latest.

The U.S. Department of Defense says South Korea and the U.S. have not yet made their

final decision on next year's joint military exercises.

This is according to a report by Voice of America, citing the Pentagon's spokesperson

for the Indo-Pacific, Christopher Logan.

Logan reportedly stressed that the U.S. will work closely with South Korea in supporting

the ongoing diplomatic process surrounding the Korean Peninsula,... and the allies will

continue to consult to maintain their combat readiness.

The spokesperson also said the Department of Defense is closely examining a range of

aspects of the exercises,... such as their size and scale.

South Korea's Ministry of National Defense also says the two countries are still discussing

the matter.

Responding to a reporter's question on the issue in Tuesday's regular press briefing,...

the ministry's spokesperson said a decision will be announced once it's finalized.

"We said earlier that we will announce it when it's decided.

That position has not changed."

Back in October, in a joint press conference at the annual Security Consultative Meeting

in Washington,...

South Korea's defense minister Jeong Kyeong-doo said a decision would be made by December.

And in late November,...

U.S. defense chief James Mattis says next year's joint military exercise will be smaller

in scope... to avoid hurting diplomatic efforts with North Korea.

Cold weather advisories were issued in central parts of Seoul, Jellabuk-do Province and in

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

Advisories are issued when the temperature drops by more than 10 degrees Celsius overnight...

compared to the day before.

The morning low in Seoul tomorrow will be minus 4 degrees,... with Cheorwon... at minus

8 degrees, and Paju... minus 7.

It is important to stay warm... and children and the elderly are advised to stay indoors

when cold weather warnings are issued.
