Youtube daily report Jun 10 2017

I was watching this 2011 Game Informer tour of the Bethesda Game Studios, and when they

got to what they called the "concept art pit," I saw THIS book right here.

Clearly, they must have used this for reference when creating the game.

So, due to the nature of this show...

I HAD TO OWN IT.

It's now VERY clear to me how much of viking and nordic culture they took influence from.

Some things they just straight took form this book.

But, there's a lot more in here that I would have loved to have seen in the game.

It's obvious even at a quick glance that Skyrim is based off of the Nordic countries, and

the culture is based off of Viking culture.

You have the Nords which are just...

Nordic people.

The scenery, the primitive technology.

And if it wasn't obvious to you before, I'm sorry.

But is it obvious now?

The artists at Bethesda actually did a pretty good job of taking inspiration from real world

history and making something new out of it.

They made they're own culture, INSPIRED by the Vikings.

However, they DID straight up steal some aspects, while leaving others in favor of something

a little more... bland.

For example, the weapons are very reminiscent of traditional viking weaponry.

The Iron and Steel weapons are more along the lines of something an actual Viking would

use.

What's weird are the intricate markings on some of the weapons themselves.

This is something I've criticized Skyrim for in the past.

In this case real life is so much more interesting than the video game.

It just becomes, uninspired.

Granted, this game came out in 2011, so the resolution of the textures were fairly limited.

Little details like this didn't matter too much.

The remastered HD textures make the designs stand out more, but it doesn't make them any

more intricate.

If you want that, you're going to have to take a look at the MOD market, where the community

does some fantastic work.

You can find weapon skins with much more nordic inspired patterns pretty easily.

This particular axe was decorated using silver wires, and thought to have been too pretty

to have been used in battle.

But this shouldn't stop anybody from using it as inspiration for a video game thats about

dragons.

The Vikings loved these flow-y patterns with stylized human and animal faces thrown in.

You'll see these themes sprinkled about their designs.

Skyrim DOES have a lot of things with animal or human heads as part of the design, but

again, they're usually lacking those signature Nordic patterns.

Another staple of the time period were these colorful, rounded shields.

I've also criticized Skryim before for not being very colorful.

This could have been an easy way to alleviate that.

I'm not so sure this exact pattern would fit into the world of Skyrim.

I mean, when I see it, I think more Medieval than anything, but adding some colors to the

shields could have been a great way to brighten up the game.

Viking clothing again doesn't really fit the theme of Skyrim.

It kind of looks a little ridiculous if it's not stylized more.

Skyrim is more of a...

Norse fairy tail.

It's the stuff the Vikings dreamed about, as seen in these old illustrations.

So, everything should be exaggerated and cool looking.

I did, however, find this guy right here.

The red color and the yellow pattern on the trim reminded me very much of the Jarl Clothing

concepts.

If this book has taught me anything, it's that the Vikings were VERY into their intricate

knotwork, and those details are something I'd LOVE to see in the next Elder Scrolls,

when they have much more graphical fidelity to play with.

Give me details, damn it.

Really, the technology is the most Norse thing about the game.

So, the weapons and items should be the most similar to real life.

Looking through this book I found this long chest that should look very familiar.

In this case the Norse used nails as a decoration, hence the hundreds of nails that serve no

practical purpose.

This particular chest is a real thing that was found in the Oseberg Ship discovered in

Norway inside of a burial mound, along with the skeletal remains of two women, and a whole

bunch of other artifacts.

These are some of the most well preserved Viking artifacts to have ever been discovered,

and you can go visit them if you're ever in the west side of Oslo and feel like making

a trip to the Viking Ship Museum.

Another random item lifted straight from this book are the beds of Skyrim.

It's the exact same bed.

The difference being that they made the headboard carvings stand out a lot more, but it still

has the same animal head eating it's... ugh... eating itself.

This is a strange example, because in this case they actually JAZZED UP the real world

design.

That's kind of the way it should be.

Basically, what I learned from this experience is that there really aren't many artifacts

left over from the Vikings.

What IS left over is VERY unique.

An amalgamation of cultures.

What Skyrim DID take from the history books works so well, why not go the extra mile and

take some more design elements?

What little patterns we got are just kinda, random shapes.

For Honor does a great job of making the Vikings LOOK like they came straight out of a Norse

fairy tale.

It's not historically accurate AT ALL.

But, that's not the point.

The point is for it to look rad as hell.

There's some evidence that Vikings maybe had tattoos, so the concept artists at Ubisoft

ran with that idea and tatted them up.

They clearly draw inspiration from the colorful shields and make it their own by creating

a whole new set of patterns.

They use what looks more like a Celtic Knot pattern than a Norse one.

You can tell because the patterns all more symmetrical and have the same lineweight throughout,

but hey at least they're trying.

Vikings loved jewelry, particularly brooches.

There are some brooches in For Honor, but the real world designs are a little more intricate

still.

And why leather arm bands?

Why not silver like this guy?

Is that too girly?

Regardless of all this knit-picky nonsense, these designs end up being extraordinary.

Lots of little details make them interesting.

Sure we're taking 2 games that came out generations apart, so details are more technically feasible.

But certain things you can't blame on the graphics, like the colors.

Even thought this looks lame, it IS possible that with the RIGHT Norse influence, and taking

the RIGHT liberties, we can come up with something really interesting.

Hey I guess the game isn't too bad either.

You know what else does a pretty good job?

Elder Scrolls Online.

They splash the color in pretty good for the Nord class... in these promotional images.

In the game, not so much.

I wouldn't be surprised if For Honor drew a little bit of inspiration from this and

built off of it.

The patterns in the armor of ESO are more prominent.

They seem to cut a little deeper so they stand out more.

There's more contrast.

That gives us a pretty good idea of what this world is capable of given the right hardware,

but the patterns are still blocky and less intricate.

I guess there's no such thing as Nordic or Celtic knotwork in this world?

But for the most part, this is a significant improvement.

The saying is "life imitates art", but really, it's the other way around.

It's what gives us a connection to this world.

Seeing familiar things draws us in.

Showing us new creations, something out of this world is what keeps us interested.

Skyrim took a lot from this world to draw us in, but they had a lot more interesting

stuff they could have chosen from.

What they used they dulled down, took a lot of the details out, and with it a lot of the

Norse design philosophy.

That would have been really interesting to see.

But what do you guys think?

What Norse design or technology would you like to have seen represented better in Skyrim?

Or do you think they did a perfect job as is?

1K SUBSCRIBERS Q&A!! - Duration: 6:04.

salutations friends first of all yes this is a different kind of video

because I just hit 1000 subscribers which is absolutely amazing I want to

say thank you to everyone that subscribed and watches my videos which

is mind-blowing to see that there so many of you to celebrate that I hit 1k I

decided to do a Q&A I asked you guys for questions in one of my last videos and

I'm gonna answer a bunch of them let's get started our first question or

technically first three questions come from

Twenty Øne Crybabys At The Discø Øøps Phan

first question by them is: what or who inspired you to make youtube videos the

short answer would be boredom but a few years ago I started watching a lot of

YouTube and I wanted to make videos too but I couldn't because I'd have to show

my face and my voice which I didn't want to because I'm really shy then when I

found the crack community that sounded really wrong (haha) I realized that

that was something I could do so I started making videos and I had a lot of

fun doing that their second question was what's your favorite song from all

albums including No Phun Intended from Blurryface I would say Message Man

from Vessel Ode to Sleep Regional at Best would be Slowtown from

self-titled it would be Fall Away and from No Phun Intended it would be Taco

Bell Saga (haha) I am also going to include my favorite unreleased song which is Two

their last question was why can't it now as you can see my username is twentyonepandas

my icon is a panda with Josh's hair and makeup and so is my face right now I did

this because when I was younger and I started making accounts on other

websites they always have panda because they were my favorite animal so

to make sure I'd remember my username on youtube I named my channel twentyonepandas

they are actually not my favorite animal anymore because right now I love foxes

more as you can see from my two fox plushies our next question is from

AriArtWorks who asked do you ship Joshler I do but not in a romantic way

but more in the bromance way if that makes sense I also respect the

relationship between Tyler and Jenna our next would questions come from

Laiba Ijaz who asked who your favorite youtubers Dan and Phil CrankThatFrank

Jacksepticeye Markiplier PeteZahHutt Liza Koshy Philip DeFranco

Shane Dawson Game Theory /GTLive PeppermintOllie Jackfilms and the

gabbie show there's more but this video is going to be too long if I keep going

our next question is by Jøhnny Bøy and they asked what is your favorite video

of Tyler and/or Josh this one they also asked favorite bands

twenty one pilots Panic! at the Disco Fall Out Boy MCR Imagine Dragons Arctic Monkeys and

then also for artists Halsey Troye Sivan and Blackbear what's one thing you want

to change about yourself I want to be less awkward

hahahaha our next question comes from Home Town and they asked why would you

upload this video at 3:23 am

our next question comes from Ella C they asked what about top made you like

them so much I really like the fact that they mix so many genres together since

my music taste is pretty much all over the place something that goes beyond

that is really cool to me the next question comes from Tyler Hoesph

they asked Josh top or bottom

Jase 0 asked if you could choose one song from any of the emo

quartet to be covered by another of the bands which song and band would you

choose and why I would choose for panic at the disco to cover ride by top since

I think it would be interesting to hear their version of more raggae song I'd also

love to hear Brendon rap our next question comes from Iris Hernandez and

they asked

and my question is do you ever notice the comments in Spanish well

I hope you understand 3 yes I do notice all Spanish comments I just can't really

understand them so when Google Translate doesn't translate it well I can't

respond which sucks

Salu- AAA

fuck

ouch

let's start over

I'm literally using my drum stool and a box as well as my laptop for the

viewfinder

New Secret Space Program Contactee Emerges - His name is Kevin Timmell

In December 2007, I started meditating for the first time in earnest, having studied

ancient history and philosophy as a teenager.

Around my 19th birthday I began not only to feed my mind with philosophy, I also started

cleaning up my physical body and transitiong towards a high vibrational diet.

Detoxifaction and DNA activation is actually the solution to many of the dark programs

that are running out there.

After I got into the health movement and started cleansing, I eventually got into the alchemy

side of things and the ORME.

Understanding the ORME and the natural occuring Ormus substances is how one would take things

to the next level in terms of DNA activation.

Little did I know that feeding one's light body in a very real way, without the greater

knowledge of Exopolitics to keep you safe, is how I showed up on their radar.

Hi Denny.

I came across your Youtube channel about a week ago and I have found your interviews

to be quite helpful.

The reason I'm reaching out to you is because I have been thinking about going public with

my own experience regarding the SSP, however, until now I haven't found a host who I would

feel comfortable enough with in order to share my experiences.

Your energy is very sincere and grounded, and I notice that your very professional and

always treat your guests with respect.

I feel like I could talk to you about the things that I remember without feeling nervous

about where the conversation could go on the part of the host.

Here is a little background information on me and how I came to remember my other life:

My name is Kevin, I'm 28 years old, and I live in Ontario, Canada.

On November 12th 2008 I was bicycling in a forest close to where I live.

I stopped for a break and thought a cloud had passed overhead and blocked out the sun.

I was shocked when I looked up and saw a greyish-white triangle shaped craft (like the typical TR-3B)

except it was greyish-white not black.

It was hovering only a few hundred feet above the treetops.

Instead of feeling panic, I felt a strange sense of calm come over me.

The craft was moving overhead at a walking pace (only a few kms per hour) and so I followed

it for several minutes walking my bicycle as I continued starring up at it (that's how

slow it was moving) and then when I reached the end of the trail where the forest opened

up into a field the craft began to rise up into the air, slowly gaining altitude until

it faded from my vision.

About 3 weeks later, I started recalling traumatic memories from another life involving what

I would later find out is the SSP.

I have reason to believe that was the day I was originally picked up and then dropped

back off (I was 19 at the time about to turn 20 on December 22nd of that year).

However, the blank slating started to break down almost immediately.

I think this is due to my blood-type being O +.

I have since found out that people with + blood who are used in the program tend to

remember things a lot better and can't be reprogrammed as easily, hence the blank slating

only lasted a few weeks for me.

I am currently working on a journal in order to create a timeline of my experiences just

like Tony Rodrigues recommended doing, and so far I have found this to be quite helpful

in terms of organizing my thoughts and memories in a way that will allow me to stay on point

if I were to be interviewed.

I'm still in the process of doing that, and I'm guessing it may take me a few more weeks

to write everything down.

Anyways, that's a little about me.

When I complete my timeline I was wondering if we could do an interview via Skype.

If for whatever reason you don't wish to interview me, I understand completely.

Thanks so much for the awesome work you've been doing, it really does make

a difference, especially for people like me.

MIT Climate Scientist Trashes '97% Consensus' Claim Global Warming Science is 'Propaganda' - Duration: 5:59.

MIT Climate Scientist Trashes 97% Consensus Claim Global Warming Science is Propaganda

by Edward Morgan

Dr. Richard Lindzen is sick and tired of the media repeating the so-called 97 percent

consensus statistic to show just how strong the global warming agreement is among climate

scientists.

Its purely propaganda, argues Lindzen.

It was the narrative from the beginning, Lindzen, a climatologist at the Massachusetts

Institute of Technology (MIT), told RealClear Radio Hour host Bill Frezza Friday.

In 1998, [NASAs James] Hansen made some vague remarks.

Newsweek ran a cover that says all scientists agree.

Now they never really tell you what they agree on.

It is propaganda, Lindzen said.

So all scientists agree its probably warmer now than it was at the end of the Little

Ice Age.

Almost all Scientists agree that if you add CO2, you will have some warming.

Maybe very little warming.

But it is propaganda to translate that into it is dangerous and we must reduce CO2,

he added.

Lindzen if referring to the often cited statistic among environmentalists and liberal politicians

that 97 percent of climate scientists agree human activities are causing the planet to

warm.

This sort of argument has been around for decades, but recent use of the statistic can

be traced to a 2013 report by Australian researcher John Cook.

Cooks paper found of the scientific study abstracts expressing a position on [manmade

global warming], 97.1% endorsed the consensus position that humans are causing global warming.

But Cooks assertion has been heavily criticized by researchers carefully examining his methodology.

A paper by five leading climatologists published in the journal Science and Education found

only 41 out of the 11,944 published climate studies examined in Cooks study explicitly

stated mankind has caused most of the warming since 1950 meaning the actual consensus

is 0.3 percent.

It is astonishing that any journal could have published a paper claiming a 97% climate

consensuswhen on the authors own analysis the true consensus was well below 1%, said

Dr. David Legates, a geology professor at the University of Delaware and the studys

lead author.

A 2013 study by Andrew Montford of the Global Warming Policy Foundation found that Cook

had to cast a wide net to cram scientists into his so-called consensus.

To be part of Cooks consensus, a scientific study only needed to agree carbon dioxide

is a greenhouse gas and that human activities have warmed the planet to some unspecified

extent both of which are uncontroversial points.

Almost everybody involved in the climate debate, including the majority of sceptics,

accepts these propositions, so little can be learned from the Cook et al. paper,

wrote Montford.

The extent to which the warming in the last two decades of the twentieth century

was man-made and the likely extent of any future warming remain highly contentious scientific

issues.

Despite the dubious nature of the consensus, liberal politicians used the figure to bolster

their calls for policies to fight global warming.

Over 30,000 Scientists Declare Climate Change A Hoax

President Barack Obama even cited the Cook paper while announcing sweeping climate regulations.

Ninety-seven percent of scientists, including, by the way, some who originally disputed the

data, have now put that to rest, Obama said in 2013, announcing his new global warming

plan.

Theyve acknowledged the planet is warming and human activity is contributing to it.

Lindzen disagreed with politicians who cite Cooks paper to call for stricter energy

regulations.

He said its part of a political machine thats used by scientists and politicians

to direct more taxpayer dollars to pet projects.

If you can make an ambiguous remark and you have people who will amplify it they

said it not me and he response of the political system is to increase your funding, whats

not to like? Lindzen said.

If I look through my department, at least half of them keep mum.

Just keep on doing your work, trying to figure out how it works, he said.

In-game Models VS Real World Inspiration - SKYRIM - The ART! - Duration: 9:31.

That would have been really interesting to see.

SciFi Summer Readathon | Vlog & Wrap Up [CC] - Duration: 28:38.

Good morning, and welcome to day one of the Sci-Fi Summer Read-a-thon.

It is Thursday, June 1st and it is

beautiful out for the very first time in like weeks, it seems like. We actually have some sunshine

There you go. Adjust.

Some sunshine and blue sky which is wonderful.

It has been so rainy the past couple of weeks, and I'm just happy that it's nice and sunny out today.

Today, I am working from home.

It's summertime so it's very slow in the office so luckily

I have the ability to work from home especially on days where I don't have any reason to be on campus which

tends to be a lot during the summer. I live an hour from where I work

so I luckily have a supervisor that's like "Yep,

just do your projects from home. Don't feel like you need to commute in if you have no reason to be here."

So I'm doing some work from home. I am actually also uploading my May wrap up

so that will be going up later today.

But throughout the day, I'll probably be reading a little bit.

I'm going to start out this read-a-thon with Cress by Marissa Meyer.

I am 105 pages into it that- I read that in April

and I haven't picked it up since April, so this is going to be my first read of the read-a-thon.

If you didn't see my TBR I'm going to link it up above for you guys, so you can go and check that out.

But, looking forward to continuing on with The Lunar Chronicles.

These tend to be very quick reads, so hopefully I'll fly right through this as well.

I think in a minute here Brett and I are going to go and grab some breakfast sandwiches and some coffee. Just

nice little wakeup treat and

hit the post office, and then come back, and then I'm going to continue working. Maybe I'll work outside.

It is really nice out. And then I'll read a little bit.

But I'll check back in with you guys a little bit later to let you know how I'm doing. Hello!

BRETT & RILEY: 'ELLOOOO

It's much later now. You know I'm in the middle of a readathon, babe?

BRETT: No.

RILEY: When am I not in the middle of a readathon?

BRETT: Yeah, true.

It's much later now. Done working and we're going to go play some tennis!

I'm gonna beat Brett at Tennis.

BRETT: HA!

I've read about 125 pages so far today.

I need to read 25 more to be where I need to be for the day which is exciting [BRETT: That's crazy.] Doing well!

Off to a great start! That's how every readathon starts. I do really good in like the first two days

and I just stop reading. [BRETT: How long is this one?] A week.

BRETT: A week?

BRETT: And you just have to get as much as you can in? Do you have a set...

Yeah, so I picked three books. It's the Sci-Fi summer read-a-thon.

BRETT: Okay.

Has to be Sci-Fi.

I picked three Sci-Fi books and

the goal is just to get them all read

and if I do I win

because it's a competition if you didn't know. [BRETT: Do you get a medal like when you do your virtual races?] That would be AWESOME!

BRETT: Maybe you should implement that. People just getting medals the For readathons. "I read 15 books

in two days!"

Anyway, we're going to go play some tennis and it's going to be fun!

[cheerful music]

Is it really a vlog of mine there's no cute pup footage?

Good girl.

Welcome to day two of the sci-Fi summer read-a-thon. Yesterday I did manage to get where I wanted to be.

So I managed to hit my goal. So if you see that little panda - I'll show you - this little panda guy

he is

marking where I want to get to each day, so

we got a little bit of reading to do.

But I did reach my goal yesterday. I'm reading about 150 pages of this a day to get it done within three days.

But did reach my goal yesterday. Really enjoying Cress a lot more than I enjoyed Scarlet

which is good. Going to read another 150 pages today.

That's the goal at least. I do have quite a busy day ahead.

Again, I'm working from home, but I have some things I need to get done today.

Some serious work projects to get at least a decent amount of the way done before the weekend.

I also need to pay a bunch of bills. I also want to record a video.

I need to run to the store.

I have to do a bunch of stuff today, so it's going to be a little bit busy, but

hopefully, I'll be able to squeeze in some reading in between all of my errands. Right now

I am just working on my to-do list for the day. As you can see

it's jam-packed in here. Need to somehow fit in a run and some exercise as well

but the best thing to do is just get started right? So I think

first thing I'm going to do is go grab coffee and a bagel. That's what I do everyday and

then I also need to pick up some poster board for my parents because I need to make them a sign.

They are running their first half marathon this weekend, which I'm going up to Maine to watch them run on Sunday.

I'm leaving for Maine tomorrow, but I am going to watch their race on Sunday

and I want to make them a sign because it's super special to run your first half marathon.

So I'm excited about that. I came to get coffee and a bagel, and I totally forgot today is National Donut Day

so I need to get a donut also. But it also means the drive-through looks like this

It usually looks like this, but not during a weekday. Side note: You like my shirt?

Blue Barracudas for life!

Hi, can I have a

medium French vanilla iced coffee with cream sugar? [DRIVE THROUGH: Okay]

And I'll do a glazed donut [DRIVE THROUGH: And a glazed donut. Something else?] And then an egg and cheese on a croissant, please.

[DRIVE THROUGH: And an egg and cheese croissant. Is that it?] Yep, that'll be it. [DRIVE THROUGH: Thank you.] Doughnuts for free with any coffee.

AAAGHHHHH

Got my donut!

Alright now that the store is open I'm going to go grab some poster board. I'm also probably going to grab some fruit

and something healthy to snack on on at the grocery store

so I'm not only eating a doughnut and a breakfast sandwich even though that's delicious. Coffee: check.

Poster Board and Marker: check. Breakfast sandwich and donut: check.

Healthier stuff so I don't feel too terrible: check.

I got two smoothies one is "green goodness" and one is a berry one and then I got this amazing

looking fruit cup. Got some raspberries, blueberries

pineapple and watermelon in there, and it looks so good. Alright errands done. Gotta go home. Set up shop.

I'm trying to figure out if I can work outside today

It's really hard to work in the sun with a laptop

and we don't have an umbrella.

I'll see if I can figure something out. Alright. Here's my home office setup.

I got a tiny little desk. I'll mainly use my lap for my laptop.

A nice camp chair and my coffee and then my breakfast is over here.

And I have other supplies in my bag like my bullet journal and pens and stuff.

This is where I'm going to spend most of the morning, I think.

I'm pretty pumped about this. Hello. It is quite a bit later now. It's about

8:40 and I am just kind of settling in for the day. I had a very productive day today.

Payed all my bills, filmed a the video, went for a run, stretched...

Did a bunch of work for actual work.

and I did a little bit of reading today as well. I'm still a little bit of a ways off from my daily goal.

I'm about like 72 pages or so off so I'm going to hunker down and read as much as I can right now.

I'm thinking I might also try to get a little bit further than my goal today

and then make it so I don't have to read as much tomorrow before finishing this.

I'd like to finish this before I leave for Maine tomorrow.

I don't know if that will happen, but that's the goal and

I'm not sure what time I'm leaving for Maine yet tomorrow.

I'm thinking sometime like late morning. But I'll try to check in before I fall asleep. If not, I'll see you in the morning.

Hello, so it is like two hours later now

And I caught up to where I want to be in Cress for today

and I read a little bit more but I started dozing off. So figured I should put the book down and try and get some rest.

I am on page

423

at the moment and there's 550 pages in so

going to finish this tomorrow at some point. My hope is to finish it before I leave for Maine

to go see my grandmother and go see my parents

um

but I'm just not sure what my schedule is yet tomorrow, so I think I'm going to wake up read this

pack and then leave. I

think that's my plan. But hopefully before I leave I will have this done. Either way

this is going to get finished tomorrow, and then I'm going to start on my next book. Good morning

and happy day three of the read-a-thon. So I woke up around like 7:00 or so, and I spent most of the early morning

finishing Cress. I

managed to finish it.

I read the 127 pages that remained in this book

and I finished it around like

9:15 or so. A lot of people say this is their favorite book in the series, and I would have to agree. This book was

really great. There's lots of action in it. All of

the

characters [in the series] are kind of

introduced at least, so there's - everybody is

in this book which is a lot of fun, and there's just- the story advances a lot which is great.

I really enjoyed my time reading this and I am going to rate it four and a half out of five stars. Next up

I'm going to continue reading The Martian.

I originally put this on my TBR for

February I think. I think this was on my February TBR and

didn't read it then. And then I put it on my Book BuddyAThon

TBR, and I managed to read 95 pages of it, then I set it down.

Book BuddyAThon was not a

very successful read-a-thon for me.

So I

am about 95 pages into this book and the goal is to finish it during this readathon.

I'm hoping I can read at least 95 pages today of The Martian. If I read 95 Pages each day I

should have it done on Monday, and then I can go on to my third and final book on my TBR for this read-a-thon. So

that's the goal is to get at least 95 pages read today. I do have a

very large road trip ahead of me, and so that's going to cut into my reading time and I don't have The Martian on audio.

But I think we'll have plenty of downtime once I do get up there. So hopefully I can get some reading done while we're up there.

[upbeat music]

Alright, so it's 1:53. I just made a stop for gas. Now I need to

figure out some lunch because I still got about

an hour and a half-ish of driving before I get there, and I'm assuming everybody's already eaten lunch.

So I'm going to find somewhere for lunch

and then keep driving.

We're almost there. More than halfway done which is the good part.

Good morning! It is day four of the readathon.

Sunday, and it is race day. I just said good luck to my parents.

They just ran by. They're off on their half marathon. It's very exciting.

So now I am going to go and grab some coffee. I'm going to

read my book for a little while

and then I'm going to meet up with my mom and my dad at the halfway mark and cheer them on some more.

Last night I came just short of my reading goal of getting to

95 pages in the Martian.

Um, I

think I got to like 77 or so pages

so I'm a little bit behind my reading goal, but

I

I'm thinking I can probably catch up today after I get back home. At least that's the goal

because I'd like to finish The Martian by

tomorrow so I can start my third book. So that's the goal for today. I'll

let you know how I do.

I do have this race as well as a long car ride back home.

So we'll see how it goes. Alright. Breakfast acquired. I got my coffee of course

Bagel and a doughnut and because I feel like I haven't had anything healthy in the last 24 hours

I picked up a couple fruit cups, so I got some strawberries and blueberries

and then I have apples and grapes with some cheese, so I mean the cheese isn't super healthy

but I still got some fruit and hopefully I'll get some vitamins out of it because I'm eating like a garbage dumpster.

My dad just texted me. He's at mile

three. Where I am is my 7 so I have some time to kill so I'm going to go ahead

And hop back into The Martian for a little bit and hopefully some runners will be coming through soon. Yeah, Dad!

Woohoo!

Nice job!

RILEY: What mile are we at?

DAD: Almost nine, I think. [RILEY: Nice!] DAD: It's over eight. [RILEY: Way more than half way. Do you want some Gatorade? Do you want some gummies? Anything? Good job, keep it up, keep it up!]

RILEY: You're almost there

RILEY: Wooo go Mom! Woooo!

Yeah!

Good job!

Yeah, you're killing it. How's it going?

MOM: Oh, man.

Yeah Dad!!! Woooo!

Go Dad!

Woooo!

ANNOUNCER:David from New Hampshire!

You did it!

Nice job half marathoner. Yeah, mom!

You're so close!

Yeah, nice job! Strong finish! You got it!

Here we go almost there! Just one more curve!

MOM: Mama done!

One more curve you got it! Nice job mom all the way through! You got it!

ANNOUNCER: Here's Lori from New Hampshire!

Nice job Mom!

Alright. We're on our way home to Massachusetts.

Quick Maine trip. I was in Maine for less than 24 hours.

So I have another like four and a half/5-hour trip back home

And [GPS: In half a mile turn left] Hopefully it doesn't take that much longer

Because I just want to relax. It's been kind of a whirlwind weekend for sure.

then I got some reading to do. I didn't get that much reading done while I was waiting for my parents

because I was just kind of anticipating their arrival.

Guess that's what tonight's for. Hopefully this road trip goes smoothly, and I will check back in with you guys a little bit later.

So I am in New Hampshire currently.

Stopping at our favorite pizza place to bring Brett home some pizza and get some pizza for myself. This is La Festa in

Dover, New Hampshire. If you're ever in Dover, New Hampshire, check out La Festa. It's

my favorite pizza, and it has been for years. Hello. It is day five, and I haven't read anything yet.

[BRETT: 'ELLOOOOO]

I'm here with Poppy

and we're gonna start reading The Martian for a little while before bed. It's already 10:00 p.m.. I haven't read a dang thing

yet today, so...

Gotta get back on the train because I'm

starting to kind of fall off a little bit in these last few days of the read-a-thon

[BRETT: Take things seriously, Riley.] I'm sorry! [BRETT: Just one time.] Are you disappointed in me Poppy?

Are you disappointed?

I swear it will not stop raining.

It's freezing. It's like 51 degrees out - that's fahrenheit for you kids out there

who don't live in the US becuase the US is weird - and it's just super

depressing and hard to get out of bed in the morning when it's just miserable out.

But anyway, today is day six of the Sci-Fi summer read-a-thon.

I woke up around 6:00 this morning, took a shower, and then read for about an hour

so I'm now on page

285 of The Martian and I have about 84 pages to go. So the plan is

finish it today. The goal was to finish it yesterday and start my third book

but that didn't happen because I kept on... So Sunday

Sunday only read 36 pages and yesterday

I only managed 35 pages before I started feeling myself doze off while reading so

couldn't get there yesterday

but today, I'll probably end up finishing it and then if I'm feeling up to it I will start book number three.

We only have today and tomorrow left in the read-a-thon

so we'll see how it goes and my last book is fairly large

but it's a YA and the text is also pretty big

and spaced out, so it might be a little bit of a faster read

than what I have been reading, so

that's the plan. I will keep you guys updated for sure. Right now I'm off to work and

I'll hopefully be reading on my lunch break and

maybe reading a little bit after work also. We'll see how it goes. Hello. It is much later now. It's like 10:15

10:20 p.m.. On day six, and I finally finished The Martian by Andy Weir and this book

was really good.

Admittedly, it took me a really long time to get into. There is lots of science and lots of descriptions of

sciencey things

which makes sense because this is about an astronaut who gets left behind on Mars and his survival of

that experience, so you have to use sciencey terms to make it realistic.

But that's

kind of what it was. It was very realistic.

It's very well-crafted. It's a

really

big nail-biter for sure. There's so much suspense in this book. A lot of this novel's claim to fame is the humor behind

it

and

it's definitely funny, too. The main character is a humorous person,

sarcastic person. He's a good character to be

stuck with on Mars.

He was very entertaining to read and the way that this was crafted like each scene was done so well.

The logs

really put you into the head of the main character. The scenes of

him,

you know, travelling across Mars were done very well.

It was just a really good book and I went back and forth on

what I wanted to rate this book

because I had such a hard time getting into it,

but that is mostly on me as a reader

and not really being science-brained and

having a hard time wrapping my head around

science, so that made it a little bit more difficult for me to get into.

But once I did get into it I could really appreciate

how well this book was written and crafted

and just how good this book is in general. And so I was thinking of giving it a four and a half

but I think it definitely deserves five stars just because it's just so well done.

It's just so well done and this is a debut novel as well, and it's just so good. It's very, very thoughtful and

just very, like I said, well-crafted novel and I totally recommend it.

Try to- if you pick this up, and you find yourself like me having a hard time getting into it, just try to slog through

the harder parts of it and

just the ending of this book is just so good and it's just like totally worth it.

So many parts of this book are really good as well. It's not just the ending, but the payoff of this book is just

amazing. But anyway. Yeah, five stars for this book. Well deserved, I think. So

we do only have one day left of the readathon, which is tomorrow,

but I do want to start - at least start - on my third book.

I don't know if I'll finish it, but that is Replica by Lauren Oliver.

This book is told in a really interesting way. It's about

I think it's called the Haven which is a place where human replicas are made

and so this is told from two perspectives

Lyra's perspective, then if you flip the book over, it's Gemma's perspective

and each

character has half of the book.

It's the same story just told from different

perspectives, and so you can read this in a few different ways. You can either read it from Gemma's perspective and

Then from Lyra's perspective or you can read

From Lyra's perspective and then from Gemma's perspective or you

can kind of flip between the two because they're told...

Each chapter's told at the same time if that makes sense and

I've heard that that is the best way to approach this book

so that's probably what I'm going to do, is read a few chapters of each character and kind of flip back and forth and

and then meet in the middle at the end. I'm thinking I'll probably get started on this tonight and

then see how far I can get into it tomorrow. Good morning! Coming to you live from my phone because my

camera battery died. I am currently just sitting here enjoying my breakfast which is a strawberry, mango, blueberry smoothie

and

kind of waking up for the day. I am working from home today, so I'm going to be doing some emails.

I have a lot of emails to send today.

But I did manage to read a little bit of Replica last night. I read about 25 pages of this bad boy

and I am enjoying it so far. I've only read two chapters of each

perspective

but it's pretty cool so far. I don't know how far I'm gonna be able to get into it today.

My hope is to

read

between projects and

maybe get a good chunk of this done. It'd be cool to finish it, but I don't know if I can finish

500 and however many pages this is in one day, but you never know!

[upbeat music]

Hello, it's a little bit later.

It's about 12:30 or so. I've been working all morning.

I just ate lunch and the sun is actually out today, so I decided I'm going to come outside on

the porch/stoop and

read for a little while.

I read some of Lyra's story this morning before work

and now I'm going to read some of Gemma's story for my lunch break and

see how far I can get. It is Global Running Day today

so I'm going to run a little bit later. Probably after I'm done working.

and then Brett and I study because he has an exam he's studying for

so we'll probably go and do that, but for now, I just want to enjoy the blue sky that we haven't had in days.

Hey friends. I just finished running

and helping Brett study for a little bit and

now I'm walking back home.

Brett's gonna work out, and then we're gonna eat some dinner, but while he works out

I'm going to go home and read a little bit more

Replica. I've been doing really good. I've been reading quite a bit. I'm nowhere near finished

but I've been reading quite a bit today which has been great.

Lulu!

Can you tell the people how my readathon went? [BRETT: Lupita!]

How do you think I did? [BRETT: So good] The goodest? [BRETT: Haha the goodest]

Hello, it is the day after the read-a-Thon and

I did pretty good. I read two whole books [BRETT: Wow]

I read [BRETT: That's crazy]

The Martian and

Cress and

I rated Cress four and a half stars and The Martian five stars.

Great Sci-Fi reads, and I managed to get through

235 Pages of Replica.

It's kind of deceiving because

you [*Lupita groaning in the background*]

Lupita, you want to explain what Replica is?

LUPITA: *groans*

It's kind of deceiving to know how far along

I am because the end of the book is in the middle of the book and not at the end of the book

So I'm - So this is one side

marked and the other flag is another side marked, so doing pretty well on this one I think. I have about

like 250 pages left of that book and I'll be done

I'll probably end up finishing it today or tomorrow, and then I'll be done

I would have finished all [of] my books on my TBR for the read-a-thon

which I'm really happy about. Here are my final stats for the read-a-thon. I think I read, I don't know, somewhere around

900 Pages which is exciting.

I really enjoyed myself reading some sci-Fi kick off the summer. Thank you to Seasons of Reading for hosting this read-a-thon.

I had a wonderful time. I definitely recommend people hop into a Seasons of Reading readathon in the

near future. They happen a few times a year so go and check out the Seasons of Reading blog to see when the next one

I'm literally using my drum stool and a box as well as my laptop for the

viewfinder

ACOUSTIC l'intégrale avec YOUN SUN NAH / TV5MONDE - Duration: 26:47.

We're with Youn Sun Nah. Hello.

- Hi. - Your album

She moves on is your tenth.

You're a Korean, French-speaking, French-loving singer.

Your last three albums had the same musicians

from Europe, particularly Swedish,

Ulf Wakenius.

- Am I right? - Yes.

Lars Danielsson, Xavier Desandre-Navarre.

This time, you've changed. Why?

Scared of routine?

No. I wanted to...

offer something different.

I wanted to give a different kind of present to my audience.

And also,

I'd been wanting to record an album in New York.

That's how the idea came up - "I might as well do it now".

So I did it...

I don't usually have a concept

before recording an album.

I just feel it's the right moment to make one.

So that's how this album was created.

Why New York?

I found a musician, a bit by chance.

I knew about him.

His name is Jamie Saft.

He plays avant-garde music.

I came across his albums.

He had these really lyrical, simple, soft compositions

which interested me,

and so I went to New York to work with him.

And so you started this trio

after meeting him?

Yes.

Then, I asked Jamie...

I hadn't had a drummer for a long time.

I wanted some rhythm.

So I asked him to take a bassist, a drummer

and a guitarist, later on.

There's only a little bit of guitar, actually.

You did five songs with Marc Ribot.

As opposed to your previous albums, though,

there's less guitar and more drums.

Did you want more rhythm and less melody?

Were you looking for that in this album?

Yes, and at the same time, I wanted to have...

an organ sound...

a keyboard sound.

My last three albums

had no keyboards in them.

I'd perform with the guitarist only.

But this time, Jamie Saft

plays the piano, the organ, keyboards in general...

He plays I don't know how many kinds of keyboard.

- That's the sound you wanted. - Yes, that's right.

In your previous album, there was V. Peirani

and his accordion. - Yes.

A.k.a, "the squeezebox". So you were already

sailing in this direction.

Yes, absolutely.

How did you choose your repertoire? What makes you

like one song enough to perform it?

Are you attracted to melody?

- What do you like? - Melody comes first.

And lyrics.

I believe our voice is the only instrument in the world

that allows us to convey a message,

along with lyrics.

Lyrics are very important, too.

So when I choose a song, it's a mix

of both melody and lyrics.

They both matter, as well as the message.

It's a pleasure to have Youn Sun Nah with us today.

Your album's called She moves on.

You have lived in Paris.

Now you've settled down in Seoul, South Korea.

Did you like Paris?

Totally.

I met the most amazing people.

This is where I started

singing jazz music.

And this is where I found my way.

At the same time,

France is a country where...

How many shows a day are there in Paris?

- Many. - Lots of jazz festivals.

That's why I would say it's a musical paradise.

We don't actually realize how rich our country is.

You see it as an Asian,

as a Korean.

- It's the country of culture. - Yes.

I envy you.

The door is always open. You're here.

You also spread the French language in the world,

with your concerts.

You became a singer in France.

You decided to be a jazz singer at 25.

Yes.

What happened? Why so late?

My parents are musicians.

I've listened to music all my life

and I've also seen them work...

How to say? Very hard.

They belong to the first generation

of musicians in Korea.

So, I said to myself, "No.

"I don't want to be a musician". And so I studied literature.

After graduating,

I worked for a fashion brand,

so, nothing to do with music.

Later on, I had the opportunity

to participate in musicals,

and while I was doing that, I thought, "Maybe...

"what I really want to do is sing".

I said to a friend, who is a musician,

"I want to sing, I want to learn how to sing.

"What can I sing?" And he replied, "Jazz".

I had never heard of that before.

So he said, "It's the roots of pop".

"Learn jazz, and you'll be able to sing anything".

"Wonderful!" So I started singing jazz by accident.

What a happy accident that was.

After this long and beautiful career, do you keep

working on your voice daily?

Do you train yourself?

I don't train just two or three hours a day.

I sing all day long.

All the time.

Let's say I hum.

Sometimes, I'm not even aware of it.

And even when you are, intellectualizing it

helps you grow.

I try to see...

if I'd be able to reach the notes.

I don't sing loud,

I just hum a little bit.

That's how I train.

- Thank you, Youn Sun Nah. - Thank you.

Thanks for making the effort of speaking

in French. It's always a pleasure

to welcome French-speaking artists.

A big hello to our viewers in South Korea

and all Asia. Thank you.

Thank you.

Bouncer Sues Lil Wayne for Assault, Alleges It Was a 'Hate Crime' - Duration: 1:03.

Hey guys for Complex News, I'm Natasha Martinez.

A security guard in California is suing Lil Wayne for assault and is alleging that it

was a hate crime.

The guard was working as at Hyde Club on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip roughly a year ago

when he claims that the 34-year-old rapper punched him and threw a glass filled with

alcohol at his face.

He's also backing up his hate crime claim stating that Weezy yelled "Fuck you white

boy!" when he threw the drink.

TMZ states that the man says he felt physically threatened, but that he was trying to do his

job controlling the flow of human traffic into the club when he was knocked to the ground

by Lil Wayne's fist.

The lawsuit has been filed against Wayne, his label and the club and is seeking damages

for the assault and battery, in addition to a 25,000 civil penalty for the alleged hate

crime.

Representatives for Wayne have denied the bouncer's account of events.
