So you thought Splatoon's story mode was too easy for you, maybe.
Though it is full of mysteries I'm sure you had know idea they exist.
When a video game is released, usually we can see speedrun videos of this game.
It is just a player who tries to finish the game the fastest way possible.
Don't believe that speedrunners are not enjoying the game at all,
On the contrary, in order to be fast on speedruns, you have to know the game well,
you must have done it several times, and know every bits of it, every corners, shortcuts, and optimize every moves you make.
In Splatoon, and in every other games, there is some sort of competition,
to know who will finish the game the fastest way possible.
And, there is indeed a community of Splatoon players who try at every cost to beat speed records while playing in story mode.
By the time I'm recording this video, an American player is the actual fastest speedrunner, and he's known as MoveFishGetOutTheWay,
he finished the story mode in 51 min and 19 sec.
It is both quite long and short regarding the time a casual gamer would take to finish the game.
In this video, you're not going to see the full speedrun but we'll talk about tips and mechanics
that are used by speedrunners in order to save some time in story mode.
So, obviously, you have to know the game by heart,
to know where to go, what path to take, which monster to kill, which one to ignore...
Of course the aim is not to kill each and every enemy on you way but to find the best path to the end.
Knowing the game by heart is an asset, obviously, cause, for instance, if you know where the invisible blocks are, you'll go way faster.
You'll also know which shortcuts to use, which ones makes you save time, which ones are in fact false shortcuts,
Knowing perfectly the game is not enough though, you also need a couple techniques.
First tip: change the language of the game. Cutscenes are indeed longer or shorter from one language to another.
It seems that the shortest language in Splatoon is Japanese.
The extracts I'm sharing with you were recorded by an American player who played Splatoon in Japanese,
Because the length of the sentences is way shorter with the Japanese symbols than any other language,
So you can skip the cutscenes dialogs faster.
In order to optimize your moves, you mustn't ranndomly visit the different levels of the game,
I guess you know that in order to play any Splatoon story mode level, you must have unlocked it previously, by shooting a teapot,
Which is in fact the entry of the level.
Interesting thing: once you have unlocked the entry, you can come back anytime just by teleporting.
And so, sometimes bombing a teapot from a distant point is faster than going there walking, because you unlock it and jump on it directly.
This trick spares some efforts. Instead of going there on foot, you can save some precious seconds.
And sometimes you don't even have to explore it right after you unlocked it. You can go to another level and come back later to the previous teapot.
Cause this one may be closer to the end level and your moves in Octo-Valley are optimized.
Talking about moves, Ink lines are a key tool in this story mode.
You have to activate it first, then you can use it whenever you want, whatever way.
However, you don't need to be near to activate it, like I said earlier, you can do it from a distant spot using bombs.
It enables you to take some cuts and you don't need to jump on the ink line at its beginning, just go to the point and sometimes,
one good leap of faith in the void is faster than some detour.
Of course you have to use well the weapons available.
Your Splattershot obviously, but also your Splat bombs, Seekers and Burst Bombs,
Splat Bombs enable you to unlock teapots too far from your spot, or even to kill octolings or whatever enemy when they are spawning.
Burst Bombs, which you can throw real quick, enable you to trigger fans fast, to burst instantly the Zapfish bubble,
they also enable you to fill sponges with ink in a minimum time, in order to earn some precious seconds.
And, it might be no use to say it now, seekers enable you to swim right ahead, of course you must throw them in the best direction so that its path is the most efficient.
Obviously, for this type of sub weapon, you must have collected some fish eggs on the previous maps in order to unlock them.
So you mustn't ignore those eggs on your way.
But, you know, sub weapons won't be enough: you can indeed have some special weapons in the game, for instancethe inkzooka or the bubbler.
And even if we tend to use them right after getting them, it can be wise to keep them and use them later in the level,
You can use your inkzooka to splat a great amount of foes within a short time, and for instance, use you bubbler in that case:
Instead of waiting for the key to be free, well, you'll move faster going through the Splash Walls using your bubbler,
Inkzookas also can be used against the final boss, we can see that some speedrunners sacrifice their protection which they get back during the fight,
In order to live through a Killer Wail and to save some seconds against the final boss.
GLITCHES. There are numerous glitches in Splatoon's story mode, but they are mostly useless if you want to speedrun the game.
This being said, there are two glitches which make you save some precious seconds, even minutes, let me show you!
The first one is in Kelp Dome when you fight against octolings.
In fact, there is a little glitch at the end of the level. If you throw a bomb soon enough on the Zapfish while being pretty far from it,
If his bubbler has burst when an octoling girls jump near it, well, it will trigger the ending cutscene, as if you had picked it yourself.
And yet you did not climb up to the Zapfish, throwing a bomb at the right time just before octolings appear was enough.
If you're too late, it won't work, and if your timing is not on the dot, it won't work either.
It is as if octolings had to pick the Zapfish instead of you once its bubbler has burst, and it ends the level.
So, this little glitch is some sort of a time saver, but there is one which is actually way better.
In Splatoon's story mode, you can skip an ENTIRE set of levels and jump from wolrd 3 to world 5, avoiding six different levels, and this is quite convenient for speedrunners!
As you can see, this shortcut is a way through the closed gate preventing you from going on if you haven't killed the final boss of world 4.
You can make some ink stains with a Burst Bomb which enable you to swim right to the next platform.
Just like that, in seconds, you actually skipped 6 different levels and more or less about 25% of the complete story mode.
This is it. You've just seen the main tips used by speedrunners to save some time in story mode, if you're interested in it, I encourage you to watch a full speedrun, website link (on which I found it) in description,
