How To Prepare For A Multi Stage Event - Duration: 6:46.

- Riding or racing on back to back days

can be so rewarding.

It's certainly a challenge for just about

any cyclist.

So if you have just signed up to the event of a lifetime,

like a Haute Route or, indeed,

you're about to do your first stage race,

then coming up are some very relevant tips

on just how you train and prepare for multi-day events.

(smooth electronic music)

Firstly, we think that as important as getting used

to training and racing on back-to-back days is,

you shouldn't let it get in the way

of trying to be as fit as you possibly can be.

It might sound counterintuitive (breathing hard),

but actually training to be good

at riding on successive days

might not actually get you as fit and as fast

as you would otherwise would be (breathing harder).

But the fitter you are,

the less taxing your stage race or ride is gonna be.

So take for example this,

is the Passo Campolongo in Alta Badia (breathing harder).

It's exactly the kind of climb you'd find in an event

like the Haute Route (breathing harder),

and it is, as you can probably hear, a tough one.

But, if through training,

(breathing hard)

we manage to improve our FTP by 50 watts,

it's gonna be an awful lot easier

and an awful lot less taxing

than if you're simply better able to cope

with soaking up (breathing harder) hard work.

So the point is, is that you shouldn't get overwhelmed

and fixate on the challenge of back-to-back days.

Your priority should be getting as fit as possible,

and then try adding the following ideas (breathing hard)

into your training.

Now most of us are probably quite familiar

with the idea of training on successive days.

When done in a controlled way,

it is a fantastic way of getting fit,

because you put your body and just that little bit

more load.

(breathing harder)

And so when training for multi-day events,

we can keep using the same principle,

but you have to add in an extra day or two.

So (breathing harder), if you normally do

a two day block and then an easier third recovery day,

why not build it up to three days or four?

Maybe even ending up at five (breathing harder).

As long as you get enough recovery afterwards,

it should do wonders for you.

But as we've just been talking about,

don't do it too much

because you still need to prioritise getting fitter

and getting faster.

So, that's a five day block every three or four weeks

is what you should be looking at.

And then, you're definitely gonna see

the benefits of that extra hard work.

Now another great way of getting really fit,

particularly if you're short on time,

is to use split days.

So that's where you train in the morning

and then in the afternoon or the evening.

And the idea is that you get to stress your body

loads more (breathing harder)

and therefore get more stimulating

training effects than if you're just to do one ride a day.

And, if you're preparing for an event

with four to five hour days back-to-back,

you don't need to worry

'cause split days will still do the job.

They will very quickly get you used to riding

with the sensation of fatigue in your legs,

which is very important for stage races (breathing harder).

And then, it also mentally toughen you up.

I certainly have always found them really demanding

in that respect.

What you gotta do is make sure you plan correctly,

so that two sessions in a day that complement

each other.

So perhaps you do sub threshold work in the morning,

like sweetspot intervals,

and then save your harder intervals

(breathing hard) for in the evening.

This next one is a great little tip

and is, in fact, straight out of the book

of Matt Stephens's training packs.

So we're probably all conditioned to the idea

of having one or two easy days after a race

or a big sportive.

I certainly am.

In fact, even now Monday is a day of rest for me

from a cycling perspective,

for no reason other than habit.

However, training the day after an event

is a fantastic way of getting your body

used to coping with that fatigue that you get,

and then also, trying to condition yourself

to recovering faster as well,

So, why not get even more bang for your buck, in fact,

(breathing harder) by riding the day before

the event as well.

So you could ride Saturday,

do your event Sunday,

and then Monday, you could do a split day

either side of a day's work.

Now admittedly, you probably won't be much use

in the office that day,

so you can apologise to your boss, from us,

and just explain that you will unfortunately

need to be making some sacrifices.

For the focus on training really hard

and getting more tired,

you're also gonna need a keep a really close eye

on our fatigue levels.

Because although we wanna dig really deep

for specific blocks,

we also wanna make sure that we're fully recovered

before starting the next one.

So as well as asking yourself

some searching questions every day

about how you're feeling (breathing harder),

you also wanna make the most

of the technology available to you.

So if you've got a powermeter, use that

in conjunction with a heart rate monitor.

Or, you should just invest in a heart rate monitor.

And then, the main secret to recovery

is simply to get adequate rest.

(breathing harder)

But then, in addition to that,

you also need to bear in mind your nutrition,

because the harder you train,

the more important that becomes.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly,

Don't Worry(!)

Because as daunting as your first stage race or ride

might be, you will get through it.

I remember being super nervous before mine,

but the thrill of the event masked any pain in my legs.

And I did, indeed, survive it okay.

'Cause as great as a multi-day event challenge is,

the most important thing to bring with you

is a positive attitude.

(breathing harder)

Now, one man who is facing his first multi-day event

this summer is John Chocolate Voice Beavan,

who is indeed doing a Haute Route.

And if you wanna keep track of his progress,

first you need to make sure to subscribe to GCN.

To do that, just click on the globe.

And then if you want to see John's intro video,

that is just there.

Or, to see the latest GCN show

Wayne Dyer - Learning to Look at Life Differently - Duration: 10:36.

WAYNE DYER► because gratitude comes from love see there's two ways to look at things in

your life there's to appreciate what shows up in your life or to depreciate

what shows up in your life and to depreciate it means to complain about it

to whine about it to to resent it because it's not big enough it's not

shiny enough it's not what I wanted that's a depreciation and appreciation

to appreciate means to have a sense of being grateful for gratitude there's a

wonderful definition that I use for gratitude gratitude is the complete and

full response of the heart to everything in the universe the complete and full

response of the heart to everything in the universe and this gratitude

disallows feelings of separateness from what shows up see resentment or

complaining or fault-finding are things that block you are obstacles

to that free flow they reinforce the idea that I am separate from that and

it's not giving me enough gratitude for what shows up and expressing that

gratitude with affirmations and regular affirmations of it is a way of keeping

that channel clear between you and that divine presence and doing this this

little ritual that I do with the coins I also do it when I'm driving and someone

lets me in into a lane when I'm trying to change lanes there's this very quick

and silent little thank you for that loving gesture it doesn't seem like much

it's not like this big deal I don't tell anybody about it I happen to be talking

about it now because it's just the focus of this particular principle but it's

not anything that I share with anybody else it's a very private little thing

that I do when someone lets me into a parking space a thank-you an

acknowledgement you know when I'm in a grocery store and I go out to the car

and I take the cart out to the parking lot and I put my grocery

in the in the truck I always take the to the thing and I take it back

it doesn't seem like this is my own little private little thing it's like

I'm grateful for this food when we go into a restaurant and we sit down and

eat and there's a sign there that says generally thank you for taking your tray

and putting it back and for my children have all learned that when we finish up

where we're eating we are thankful for the food and we're also thankful for the

place that we have to eat and we want to leave it the way it was when we got here

we're grateful for the cleanliness we're grateful for the air there's this kind

of attitude I remember being with Wally Amos Famous Amos in Hawaii who also has

a program with Nightingale Connor everybody seems to and the first time

I'd ever met him we were walking in the street and in Maui and he saw a beer can

there and he said excuse me and he walked all the way over and he picked up

the beer can and he put it into the trash can and he didn't say a word to me

and I didn't say a word to him but I noticed that I noticed there was a sense

of gratitude for the island we're calling Aloha kind of spirit

a sense of feeling grateful and expressing it in everything that you do

in your life and this kind of an attitude begins to become infectious and

it also opens the channel for more to show up people who are grateful seem to

get more than people who are resentful you know why because people who are

resentful don't understand that their resentment itself is what's blocking and

when they do get something there instantaneous response to it is it's not

enough not big enough somebody else got something that's better

I should have had this I wanted it yesterday I showed up too late it's not

the right color it's not the right size you know the endless not feeling of

gratitude there's a wonderful little old joke about a lady who was on the beach

with her grandson and she's walking along the beach and all of a sudden this

huge wave comes along and picks up the little boy and he disappears and she

just goes down on her knees and she just doesn't know what this is my gray

Hanson please God send my grandson back I can't dick or what has happened how

could this have happened oh please I'll do anything I'll do anything good and

all of a sudden another wave comes along stops him right back down right in front

of her and she looks at him and she turns around she goes underneath she

says to God uh he was wearing a hat you know who having thought of that story in

a long time this idea is not just good citizenship we're talking about here

it's cultivating this attitude of flow of allowing of permitting things to

continue to grow in you because gratitude is love now the hardest part

about gratitude for most people is the understanding that you have to also be

grateful when things don't show up and you have to learn this is the toughest

part you have to learn to be grateful for that which you don't have and for

the suffering that you are going through and for the experiences of scarcity that

seem to be present in your life because in essence until you can be grateful in

these moments and understand that you can't have sobriety

generally speaking without having known its opposite everything in the physical

plane has its opposite people who have been through addictions generally know

and appreciate and are grateful for those addictions when they transcend

them you won't find very many alcoholics who are in recovery who will say I

resent my addiction days instead what they say is they were the greatest

teachers I ever had and I couldn't be where I am today without having had

those now this is true for all of our experiences I when people say to me are

you really can you really say that you are grateful that your father walked out

of your life when you were just a baby can you really say that he the time that

he spent in prison and the time the the fact that he'd ever sent any money in

the fact that you had to spend early years and in foster homes and so on and

away from the rest of your family can you really say that you're grateful for

that I said my father was my greatest teacher I never met the man

but without my experience of learning to rely upon myself as a young boy I

couldn't as a grown man be teaching self-reliance today couldn't do it

because to learn to rely upon yourself is something that you have to have the

direct conscious experience of and when you've had it then you can teach it and

I'm grateful for it I was having dinner last night with my oldest daughter Tracy

and I was thinking about her mother and I who have been divorced for 20-25 years

now and I was telling Tracy that dinner that your mother even though we didn't

agree and didn't get along your mother was one of the great people in my life

there are many qualities that both of us could look at in her and she could look

at in me certainly and say these are the reasons why it didn't work but you can

also do the opposite you can look at this person and say but look at these

qualities look at the honesty look at the integrity look at these things and

remember that and my experience being married to my daughter's mother to Judy

those many years ago I was a young boy it seems like taught me how to be not

only a better husband later on and a better father but it gave me direct

experiences of being able to transcend my own pettiness and my own inability to

relate at a level that I am able to do today without that I couldn't be where I

am today I've often said to people I am what is

called a reverse paranoid you know what is when you ask them and what is a

paranoid well paranoid thinks that everybody is talking about you that

they're saying terrible things about you and a reverse paranoid is someone who

knows that everybody's talking about you but they're saying nice things about you

so when you walk by and tell us that I didn't talking about me say yeah of

course why wouldn't they be and this attitude of being able to be grateful

not just for the things that are manifesting and showing up in your life

but for the things that don't show up and for those experiences when you get

to a point where in this moment I can now say okay it didn't show up and

there's a great lesson in this and I'll get that lesson and then I'll stop the

blockage of abundance flowing into my life

that's what gratitude is it is the free expression of the heart to the fullness

of the universe and an understanding that you are not going to get it all

that you are at all already you are it all already that divine organizing

omniscience all loving unconditional loving God is in you already and

everything that you need to be peaceful to have love to be successful you

already have in this moment you don't need one thing more anything else that

shows up there's just a bonus from the universe and you got to be grateful for

all of it including that which doesn't

Polyglot Rafter speaks Neapolitan - Duration: 2:49.

Hello, my name is Raffaele Terracciano.

I speak Neapolitan because I'm from Naples, I was born and raised here and I still live

here.

Like all Neapolitans I was born bilingual, and already since we are little kids we differentiate

between Italian and Neapolitan: at home, there are families who only speak Neapolitan, others

who only speak Italian, and others who speak both, but generally we learn Italian at school

or from the TV, and Neapolitan by speaking it with friends, or at home.

And here is the problem and the reason for this video: according to UNESCO, Neapolitan

is recognized as a language, but it is a vulnerable language.

UNESCO says that there are about 2500 endangered languages in the world , and among all these

Neapolitan is the one with the largest numbers of speakers.

It's an unbelievable paradox: Neapolitan is spoken by 6 to 12 million people.

As a matter of fact, not only by people who live in Naples or in region of Campania, but

also by many people who have emigrated abroad from Naples in the past and still retain the

language in the family.

Just think about how many Italian-Americans still speak Neapolitan.

So why is Neapolitan endangered, vulnerable?

Because Neapolitan is not studied at school, it is not taught, not learned, it is not read,

not written in books or newspapers, and it is not heard on the radio or on TV.

There are no newspapers, there are no official TV channels in Neapolitan, and if an author

writes a book, even if he's Neapolitan, no one will even consider publishing it in

Neapolitan.

If we ask Neapolitans themselves to write it, most of us will make a spelling mistake

for every word.

Such a language risks a lot, because it only survives as spoken in the streets, as a vulgar

language, and with the passing of time many Neapolitan words are replaced by Italian words.

It's a shame because Neapolitan has many words of Greek origin, like the city itself,

but also a lot of words and grammatical constructions taken from Spanish or French

Neapolitan is the mirror of the history of the city, and it's a shame if we lose it.

If we do not want to lose Neapolitan language, we must start to study, protect and spread it

I have studied it through some books that I want to recommend: Vall' a capì by Maria

D'Acunto, Dizionario Napoletano by Carlo Iandolo, and 'o Princepe Piccerillo (The Little Prince)

translated by Roberto D'Ajello.

That's all, let me know what you think, leaving a comment below

Fivefold - Distance Between [HD | Lyrics] - Duration: 4:26.

Life goes on, on a busy street

Rain falls down, can't get no sleep

Four days and I already miss you

I thought love was just a fairytale

But now I'm here and you're somewhere

Wondering when I'm coming back to you

Out here I can't see the sun

Can't find anyone who's quite like you

There's a distance between you and me

But I swear I'm never gonna be this far away again

And the city lights promise me all I ever dream

But all I ever dream of is you

Another mile away and I'm stuck out here

By now I'd say you're probably praying

"Dear God bring him home"

But there's nothing I can do to take back time

That we lost when I sought out to fight myself

But now I need you

'Cause out here I can't see the sun

Can't find anyone who's quite like you

There's a distance between you and me

But I swear I'm never gonna be this far away again

And the city lights promise me all I ever dream

But all I ever dream of is you

It's of you

It's of you

It's of you

And it's not like me to say this

But I think I have to say this

I'm in love with you

I said it's not like me to say this

But I think I have to say this

I'm in love with you

Out here I can't see the sun

Can't find anyone who's quite like you

There's a distance between you and me

But I swear I'm never gonna be this far away again

And the city lights promise me all I ever dream

But all I ever dream of is you

It's of you

There's a distance between you and me

But I swear I'm never gonna be this far away again

And the city lights promise me all I ever dream

But all I ever dream of is you

Life goes on, on a busy street

Rain falls down, can't get no sleep

Four days and I already miss you
