Recently, I've been reading ''The Varieties of Religious Experience" by William James.

The 19th century, the guy was no zealous Catholic, but what struck him as a religious phenomena researcher

was the arrogance of all reducing religion to various complexes, e.g.

James took Freud and other down a peg or two for saying, 'A human prays, believes, begs, repents,

as s/he has all sorts of complexes, their sexuality's impaired, they weren't loved enough by amother or have deficits, etc.'

The profoundness of arrogance devaluating religion phenomenon, any religion, is terribly sad, strikingly sad.

If you find such arrogance in yourself, devaluating different behaviors of others,

religious behaviors of others, just go and kick yourself. Humble yourself a bit.

Who am I to put myself as someone who figures out in a humiliating way blasts of human soul and behave like an insufferable boor?

I'm Still Not Buying Limited Run Games Anymore (but I Still Love the Company!) - Duration: 5:32.

I'm Caleb, and I want to help you love video games even more.

And if you are a fan of Limited Run Games, I'm about to help you love those games even

more.

As you now have a better chance of owning those limited release games, because I'm not buying

them anymore.

I'm one less buyer to compete with.

I made a video about Limited Run Games a month ago.

I'd like to make a better one.

That's what this is (hopefully it's better).

I'm going to talk about why I love what Limited Run Games does and why I'm not buying as many

games from them as I used to.

Sounds contradictory, I know...and it probably is.

I'm still trying to figure out the logic in my own head.

Maybe you can help me out in the comments below.

What am I thinking?

Limited Run Games is a company that distributes limited quantities of previously digital only

video games for the PS4, PS Vita, and recently for the Nintendo Switch.

This simple business model runs in direct opposition to the rest of the digital-forward

gaming industry.

Limited Run Games' value proposition then is to keep the physical medium alive.

This naturally taps into the collector market, and by making the games limited, they make

that collector market ravenous.

Each release sells out within minutes.

And I, since October 2016 have been one of those ravenous collectors, counting down the

seconds prior to each release, waiting for the clock to strike 9:00am Central Standard

Time, ready to act quick to secure every PS4 release.

I later found some good deals on pre-October releases, and before I knew it I had accumulated

an unbroken series, starting with the first release, Saturday Morning RPG, released in

January 2016.

This meant, I was hooked.

I was in deep.

Maintaining the series became more important than vetting the quality of the games.

Not that the games are bad, but the fact that I didn't even question the quality is what's

important here.

And this absence of questioning is what seeded my decision to cut back on purchases.

My backlog grew.

It grew and grew and grew.

Not only did 3-4 new Limited Run Games releases land on my shelf every month, but all those

other exciting releases came too: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Nier: Automata to name just a few of the amazing 2017 games.

And every one of those new release purchase--though very exciting for me--was tinged with regret.

Or, perhaps, sadness is a better word.

A sadness that those backlogged Limited Run Games were getting pushed further and further

down the list.

As of today, I've played only 37 of the 68 Limited Run Games PS4 Releases.

And one day, I realized I couldn't do it anymore.

There are just way too many games I want to play, and I don't have time to play games

I'm not really excited to play.

I understand it's not uncommon for video game collectors to own games they've never played

and never intend to play.

But that's not me.

And once I realized this, the decision to cut back on buying video games was easy.

I had a clear flowchart: is this a game I will play?

Buy it.

Is this a game I won't play?

Don't buy it.

And to be fair, I didn't just say no to Limited Run Games releases.

I'm cutting back on all games.

Limited Run Games just happened to be my biggest problem.

Cutting them off meant cutting off a huge expense because keep in mind I'm referring

to those games as a continuum purchase, not as individual purchases.

I was buying to maintain the series.

Without a maintained series, I can now be more discriminating with the games I decide

to purchase from them in the future.

And it's important that I emphasize just how much I love Limited Run Games as a company.

I buy into their why, their reason for being.

I bought this shirt after deciding that I was going to cut back on buying the games

because I still wanted to support the company somehow.

Limited Run Games is helping to keep physical media alive.

This is important.

Many people don't realize that buying digital isn't ownership.

You are not legally allowed to transfer ownership of that file.

When you die, your digital games die with you.

I learned this from VGCollectaholic, a smart guy and my co-host at the Masters of Unlocking

podcast.

Check us out.

Half of us is smart.

Lastly, it's important to note that me not purchasing Limited Run Games releases anymore won't hurt

their bottom line.

They sell out of every release every time.

In fact, if you are a collector of Limited Run Games, you should be happy.

I'm one less person buying the game you want.

I stand by my opinion, so I'm not unpublishing the video.

However, per various comments on the video I felt I could do a better job articulating

the nuances of my decision to stop buying so many Limited Run Games releases.

I hope I've done that here.

If anything, think of it this way.

I will now enjoy the games I do play even more, meaning I'm a much more enthusiastic

video game citizen.

I've seen it before.

I've only seen that on like, variety talk shows.

You know, when they were on Jimmy Kimmel and stuff like that.

I have never seen a full blown situation which caused me to have a full blown situation.

Oh my god, my heart is in my throat.

Okay. Here's my funny Mic Drop story.

My sister and I, um, have very different tastes in music when it comes to some things, but

we both love EDM.

And we were going to a massive EDM concert and I was doing her makeup, and she had it

on shuffle, and Mic Drop Steve Aoki mix came on, and I stood in that bathroom and did my

version of the dance, and by my version, I mean it was probably just the worst thing

you've ever seen but I don't care.

So my sister laughed at me for a solid five minutes, and it was actually really fun.

Oh my god.

I need to see these guys live.

I feel like the energy that they give to the crowd and that the crowd gives to them is

just something special and something that creates a life of its own.

If we don't see these types of concerts, and interact with them, as fans like myself, you

know, in America, in the middle of America, who is probably going to have to fly to a

different part of the world or country to see a concert, this is the only way I can

access this type of content, you know?

how to live the laptop lifestyle we're gonna talk about and come on hey guys

it's K-Ninja here and today we're going to be talking about how to live the

laptop lifestyle so before you can even think about living the laptop lifestyle

the first thing you're gonna need is a laptop in the quiring a laptop is

actually one of the easiest parts about living the laptop lifestyle as you don't

need a really fancy laptop for example I'm making about six figures a year and

I run things off of a Chromebook and the price of my Chromebook was about $200 so

it's really not that much now when I first started I thought I was gonna need

the best equipment and I actually used the MacBook Pro but while I was in

Chiang Mai Thailand the MacBook Pro broke down on me and I basically found

myself in a situation where I couldn't do the work that I needed to do so I

vowed to never use a MacBook Pro again so I then did a bunch of research and

may the decision to shift my business over to Chromebooks and what I like

about the Chromebook is that you can keep everything in the cloud so if

something breaks down you just buy another Chromebook and as long as you

have an internet connection all your data is right there in the cloud and

Chromebooks are fairly cheap you could even pick up a Chromebook for about $100

so if your Chromebook breaks it's no problem at all to replace it however if

you're running on something like a MacBook Pro and that breaks down and

your data isn't in the cloud you've got to take the MacBook Pro to a special

Apple Authorized repair shop if you can't find an Apple shop and while they

work on repairing it which could take weeks you'll basically have nothing

except your smart phone so as far as living the laptop lifestyle you want a

laptop that can store data in the cloud and is easy to replace in Chromebooks

were exactly that for me not to mention that they're lightweight and that all

your data that's in the cloud you can all

access from your smartphone so if your Chromebook were the breakdown and even

if you couldn't get another Chromebook so quickly you wouldn't be completely

shut out of your information as long as you have a smartphone now while a

smartphone isn't the ideal way you want to access your information in an

emergency situation you can do it from a smartphone now if I was so dedicated a

max that I said I need a MacBook Pro with me I'm not gonna use a Chromebook I

can only use a MacBook Pro because I need the software's on that thing

then I would recommend traveling with two MacBook Pros and just accepting the

amount of weight that you're going to be lugging around with you because if your

MacBook Pro breaks down it's gonna set you back you're gonna have to find a

place where it can be repaired and it will take time to repair it anyway I

think you get the idea that I think the Chromebook is the way to go

all of that said yeah you need a laptop to live the laptop lifestyle that goes

without saying and you need one that can easily backup your data to the cloud and

that can easily be replaced sure they break down now other than that you need

a source of income online like how are you supposed to travel and pay for all

of your expenses if you don't have a way to make money online and the way I like

to make money online is Kindle publishing because I think it's the

easiest and most effective way to make money online and even if I feel lazy for

a month and don't work my passive income still rolls on in every month and that's

what I love about Kindle publishing it's a passive income it rolls on in every

month sure it's gonna fluctuate it's gonna do better around Christmas time

it's gonna do a little worse in January in February of course it depends what

niches you went into but basically you do the work to create your ebook once

and paperback and audio book as my course recommends you also published and

if you did things right you'll get a passive income rolling on in every month

and you'd like to know more about how you

in the description now the last thing that you're gonna need when living the

laptop lifestyle is a country to travel to I'm in Japan at the moment and it's

actually freezing here at the moment but it's a little nicer when it warms up

which should be in a few weeks now if you're traveling for the first time then

I wouldn't recommend Japan as a country that you travel to just because it's a

lot more expensive than other countries it's actually best to start in a place

like Chiang Mai Thailand and get better at what you're doing with your online

business and eventually work your way up to a place like Japan that's what I did

anyway but you don't have to follow what I do you do whatever you want now there

are many benefits to living a laptop lifestyle as in you could set your own

working hours so you basically work whenever you want to but like any job

you still have to work it's not a sit back and do nothing and get paid type of

thing anyone who tells you that you can just sit back and get paid and do

nothing is deceiving you it's actually more stressful than a job in some ways

and you'll feel the need to work more because your paycheck is literally

riding on your success and if you're not successful for whatever reason then you

don't have a paycheck so you're kind of forced into having to be successful or

dying homeless in some foreign land but in order to prevent the worst case

scenario of dying homeless in some foreign land I'd recommend that before

you make the jump to start traveling that you put away in a separate savings

account enough money for a flight home think of it as a safety net should the

worst-case scenario happen but hopefully you'll be motivated enough that it won't
