German linguist in Belarus volunteer camp (ENG subs) - Duration: 18:18.

Welcome to Belarus!

One may meet quite eccentric persons among the foreigners

who stay in our country.

For example, volunteers.

Believe it or not, they do not get money for their work,

live in tents and eat what they cook themselves.

What good will this side of Belarus do them?

In search of a character for our program,

we make a visit to a volunteer camp near the village of Karnyutki (Rakau district).

Oh, there are more hard-working people

and bright smiles than the eyes can take in!

We are a bit perplexed: about whom should we tell this time?

"It was like an unexplainable fascination, but I still came here."

It is not the first time Marei has come to Belarus.

She has travelled by bus and taken her baby along.

What attracts her to our region like a magnet?

We are very close to choose her,

but our hearts start to beat faster during the conversation with another volunteer...

It is a great opportunity to be in a village in Belarus.

When I ask other people, for example, from Ukraine,

what nadvor'e [weather in Belarusian] means,

and they don't understand,

because it is a Belarusian word."

The guy dreams of the village, likes Belarusian words

and learns our language on his own.

Ben, you are our hero!

Meet Benjamin Hausner.

Ben studied in Poland and Lithuania,

and is now studying Sociolinguistics in Germany, where he came from.

He might be only 23 years old,

but he speaks 8 languages, including Polish, Lithuanian and Belarusian.

He is curious about the interrelation of these languages,

as well as place names of our region.

Ben often travels around Eastern European countries;

he visits Belarus several times a year.

We spot the participants being very busy:

under the guidance of two Belarusian beauties,

they sew with their own hands! Many of them do it for the first time.

Katsyaryna Archakova, Alyaksandra Kulbitskaya, Torba Show project:

Torba Show is an ecological and educational DIY project.

Its goals are to reduce using plastic bags and promote reusable bags.

When one makes a wonderful bag of beautiful textile –

and it will smell of birches and campfire, they won't agree to take a plastic bag in a shop, I guess.

As there is much about hand work in our culture and traditions,

it hardly surprises us.

Once we talked to a volunteer from Italy and she said with admiration:

"Fancy that! There is also a very sensible approach to clothes –

they could be MENDED!"

Now recycling, upcycling and DIY are trending, popular and the craze of the day there,

while residents of post-Soviet rather had to do that."

We believe that much depends on beauty and your love to the things you do –

be it ecology or ideology.

You may chain your heart to them, to do your stuff with love.

Everything should be done with love.

Torba! Hurraa!

When Ben was 18, he arrived in Belarus for the first time.

He taught the German language in Minsk and organized cultural events.

This time, however, Ben wants to work in the camp,

where volunteers restore an old school.

It seems to me it is an opportunity to do something good for Belarus.

I like this country very much.

One should realize that

this school is also of cultural and historical value.

History is really in the air here.

Sierž Naurodski, Case Belarus:

There might have been Headmaster's office...

and a staffroom.

In fact, this part of the building could collapse at any moment.

As this area was part of Poland before 1939,

the school was built upon the Polish project,

but, as I can guess, by ordinary Belarusian builders and craftsmen.

It is the console that is the most interesting thing here.

Why? What does it mean?

This corner does not have a leg to stand on.

Then, in the 30s, it was a unique and fine architectural element.

In my view, this school, the neighbourhood, its spirit

remind of France's Provence.

In fact, we do have many buildings, colours, details

which have the air of Europe.

When we create and properly use these colours and details,

it starts to look like France.

And people coming here - Belarusians and foreigners - will definitely say 'Wow!'

As the old saying goes, if one has a lot on the plate, they don't need the spur.

What are our plans for today?

It is of great importance that

our team includes both Belarusians and foreigners.

Belarusians (me too) learn from foreigners, and vice versa.

And we show them a different Belarus – so to say,

the Belarus that knows where to go

and what is to be done.

Tatsiana Dashuk, ReThink Belarus:

Let me tell you about our meeting the guests.

We had a gift for each; it was very small, but fine –

a syrok [chocolate-glazed curd bar]!

We said: "Hello! this is for you!"

Some were delighted: 'Ooh, syrok! I've heard soo much about it! It is delicious!"

Others said 'I have never tasted it, but I was told about.

Others said 'I have never tasted it, but I was told about.

Let me have it... yummy!

Can we buy more for our breakfast tomorrow?"

Those who had been to Belarus before said:

"I was looking forward to buying a syrok, and here it is!"

The volunteer camp was set up as part of the project ReThink Belarus.

Its coordinator Tatsiana Dashuk wishes

her foreign friends' awareness of Belarus would move beyond stereotypes.

She believes that if there is something one wants to change,

they should start with themselves.

I came up with the idea

when I got sick and tired of telling people about Belarus

as just a 'country between Poland and Russia'.

The main goal of the project is discussing stereotypes, market countries

and answering questions:

What is our vision of Belarus?

How do foreigner picture Belarus?

How do Belarusians present themselves?

The volunteers have lectures in History of Belarus,

debate on the stereotypes associated with our country.

Lizaveta Shpakouskaya, 'Heta Belarus, Dzietka!':

As a gift from the project 'Heta Belarus, Dzietka!',

they get comic book about the Belarusians' habits and way of thinking.

Meanwhile, Ben gets wind of Yanka Kupala museum in the neighboring Vyazynka;

he decides not to waste time...

"Come in!" - "Thank you!"

Do you know Belarusian?

Yes, I do.

Iryna Trutneva, guide:

Welcome at Yanka Kupala's homeplace!

You know the name of Yanka Kupala?

Yes, I do.

Why did he take 'Kupala' as his penname?

Kupala is the name for a traditional summer feast,

in Germany it is known as Johannesnacht.

As you can see, our museum is not large.

Here we usually tell visitors about his birth

and how he started to rhyme.

The other part, where his parents dwelled,

is the Belarusian khata (house) of the late 19th century.

It looks like as if nothing changed since that time.

Almost all wooden things are handmade.

Here you can see homeware and utensils;

for example, food could be stored in this trunk.

It was cold; and such trunks were used as fridges.

This is a special tool to learn toddlers how to walk.

When placed here, a small kid could practise making first steps.

This is an ironing tool.

Hot coal pieces were inside.

Villagers had many linen articles;

to make them smooth and flat,

they placed them on a roller, sprayed with water

and rolled for a while with the help of this tool.

As a result, clothes made of linen became softer.

The works of our classical poet were translated into 100 languages.

I would like to show you a book

containing translations of only one poem by him, And Say, Who Goes There.

There is also a version in German; you can read it to get an impression.

When I was reading poems by Kupala in German,

I felt like reading more in Belarusian.

Where did you learn Belarusian?

On my own.

You did really well! You know, I have been working here for 31 years,

and this is the second time I have been so pleasantly surprised.

Once a man from America visited us;

he also travelled around Belarus to get to know its history and culture.

He was not of Belarusian origin either,

but he learned our language singlehandedly.

I wish you heard him speaking Belarusian.

Did you like our museum? What are your impressions?

I am glad to have been there. It is a rewarding experience.

It has been a real pleasure to talk to you.

We would like you to know more about Yanka Kupala,

and we are giving you a present.

It is very kind of you, thank you very much!

On the one hand, it is a pleasure to me.

On the other hand, it is sad –

it appears that hardly any foreigners learn Belarusian.

I wish more people learnt Belarusian

and got interested in the country.

Ben is a bit soaked and tired.

We wonder if his fellows have managed to make a camp bath...

It would be of use now!

That's real extreme!

Ready?

Holy cow!

Goodbye, Ben! Goodbye, volunteers!

We are very grateful for your interest and support,

for kind words and good deeds!

Come again!

Essential Tips for Building Model Kits | Video Workbench: The Scale Model Show - Duration: 11:51.

- [Jason] A good idea while building model kits

is to put all your parts into baggies.

I know that just may seem like a bit of a stretch

as far as complicating things a little bit more,

but over time, if you put a lot of your parts into baggies,

you won't lose them or break them

and it keeps everything a lot more organized.

And organization is the key

to actually having fun and a good time

with model kit building.

As you can see here, with the time machine parts

that I have with the chair,

I have the larger parts in a large bag

and I have the smaller parts in a smaller baggie

inside the larger bag.

And this is so that I don't lose the parts

and they don't get broken,

and I can actually put this one whole section

somewhere else so that the parts won't get lost

and I can get to the quickly.

So a quick tip is just to be organized

and keep everything together.

(upbeat music)

I have all the parts laid out to each chair

that all the parts correspond with.

Each chair has a total number of 24 individual parts.

To the two time machine saddles that are on the left,

if you look in the rear of all the parts behind the seats,

you can see that I have dryfitted each bottom section

of each saddle.

Now what I mean by dry fitting

is that I've put parts together,

but I have not glued them yet.

I will show you with the saddle that's on the far right

how I will go about dry fitting parts.

I have the lower part, or the lower section

of the time machine saddle

that needs to be dry fit.

Now the definition of dry fitting is just that.

I'm not using anything wet

or any type of adhesive

in order to glue anything together.

And these four sections that you see

have a grove that's on the opposite side of the piece.

And basically it's going to fit around

or this part right here is going to slide

into this section right here.

Now let me show you how I dry fit these parts

to make sure that they fit properly.

Basically all I'm gonna do is I'm gonna turn 'em around,

and I'm gonna just slide 'em into the groovess.

Do the front, do the back,

and I'm gonna do each side.

(relaxing music)

And that's it.

All four sides of the bottom portion of the saddle

are now fit snug onto the base of the chair.

And that's it, that is exactly

what dry fitting is all about.

You wanna make sure that your parts fit

before you glue 'em together.

A good idea when working with either plastic or resin kits

is to mark the areas that need to be cut.

I suggest this so that it can save you a lot of time

and headache in the future.

Basically, I take a Sharpie marker,

and I draw either a squiggly line

or a slash or an X.

As you can see here,

I have squiggly lines, slashes, or Xes.

Also, a good suggestion is that

if you wanna be more specific

and a little bit more precise

depending upon what kind of model kit it is

and what kind of detail you want

and what you need to cut away,

make an X or make a box

and then use slashes to shade in the area

that you need to cut away.

So just remember, like the old saying goes,

measure twice, cut once.

Remember, this is a really good idea

to save you time and headaches in the future.

As you can see there I have a dust mask,

and it's very, very important

that you wear the mask when you're sanding resin.

You don't wanna breathe resin dust in,

it can give you upper respiratory problems

if done over time,

and it's just not safe for you to breathe in.

So please remember, wear a mask.

(loud drilling)

And you can see here my girlfriend

is starting to cut a lot of the large groove pieces

from the parts of the time machine

that are going to form the chair,

and obviously, as you can see here,

there's a lot of resin dust that's coming up,

and that's why she's wearing the mask.

Please remember, any time that you are cutting resin,

to please use a face mask.

(loud drilling)

OK, now that I've used the motor tool

to sand down around the area that I had

the Gorilla Super Glue,

now it's time to do some wet sanding.

And wet sanding is exactly just that.

You have a water bottle with water in it,

and basically all you do is

you spray the water onto the piece,

or if you would like,

you can spray it directly onto the sandpaper,

and then basically all you do is sand away.

Now what this will do is create a smoother surface.

(loud sanding)

Now if you were just to sand it without water,

it would actually make the surface a lot more rough,

and can cause more problems,

bigger holes, divots, scratches.

So all you do is to squirt the water on, start sanding,

and then basically you start with a low grade sandpaper,

and you end up going to a higher grade sandpaper

with more grit.

The higher the grit, the smoother the area's gonna be.

I show you an easy way to locate pupils

on either a bust or figure model.

So, why don't we get to the video.

No one item can make or break a figure

as effectively as the eyes.

If they are well painted,

they can make an inanimate model seem to come alive.

But no matter how well built or painted

a figure model may be,

if the eyes are poorly done,

it will only be a model.

There are any number of ways to select paints

and color schemes for painting eyes.

We're talking about human eyes here,

other beasties don't have to meet the same standard

or larger scale kits.

When you get much smaller than one twelve scale,

it's generally better to do little detailing

with the eyes than to do too much.

There's no one right way to paint eyes,

except for one rules: the pupils

of both eyes must be aligned in the same direction.

There are very few characters

that look good when they are cross-eyed or wall-eyed.

Frequently, the sculptors of the patterns for model kits

render the eyes as smooth sections of spheres.

This was the case with the model

we'll use as our example.

Geometric designs, one quarter scale resin bust

of The Bride of Frankenstein,

sculpted by Jeff Jaeger.

It would be easy to paint the whites

and irises of the eyes realistically,

but if the centers of the eyes, the pupils,

were out of alignment,

or weren't painted as perfectly round circles,

all the preceding work would be for nothing.

And yet, there's an easy way to render pupils,

which will work for most any scale model

with smooth eyes that are large enough to detail.

Simply drill the pupils out before painting the eyes.

This should be done

before the final color coats are applied,

preferably after the application of the primer

or base color.

At this stage, you can play around

with the position of the pupils

as the direction in which the eyes will be looking

can greatly effect the mood of the finished piece.

It's helpful to locate the position of the pupils

with a pencil,

and the paint will provide a little tooth for the lead.

Or, you can take a digital photo of the model,

and use a drawing program to move the pupils around.

When you think you've got the pupils accurately marked,

check by holding a model

so that you're looking straight into the eyes.

If you've got them lined up properly,

you'll get the unnerving sense

that the eyes are looking back at you.

If one mark is a little off,

now is the time to correct it.

Now all you have to do is drill out the pupils.

For this operation, a handheld pin vice is advisable

because you want the greatest control.

Only a shallow depression will be necessary

to create the pupil.

Now the rest of the eye can be painted,

because the pupils have already been centered

it will be much easier to paint the irises around them.

The result will be a convincing set of eyes

that will truly make your figure look alive.

Well I hope that you like the suggestion,

and find it useful in locating pupils

on a bust or a figure kit.

Now the right size to find the pupil area in scale

would be like a quarter size bust or larger,

or a larger, maybe 10 to 12 inch figure.

When you start getting smaller,

then I would either suggest

going under a magnifying glass

or getting decals that you can put on the eyes.

Greetings on Seaman`s Hands

I want to tell you about how I decided to study bonsai

On a well-known Chinese site, I ordered seeds.

Set of 50 kinds of seeds

It costs about two dollars

A month later, this set came to me by mail

There are many kinds of trees in the set

Myrtle, maple, pine, cherry, blue spruce, lemon, grapefruit, wisteria and yose

I also ordered very handy little tools. They also cost two dollars

And fertilizers, but I have not used them yet

So.

Of all these seeds, I managed to grow only pine. The rest either rotted, or simply did not come up

But I did not freeze them, that is, I did not stratify them.

I just planted them and watered them.

A month later, the pines grew.

I planted four seeds, and only two grown

Now they are three weeks old

They are already like pines

I grew them in a glass, and then transplanted into pots

This is my pride

After I was disappointed in Chinese seeds, I ordered a Russian seed

Pine caribbean

While nothing has grown here

Cherry Magalab

So far, nothing. Two weeks passed. I think it's normal.

Pine Weymouth

Spruce fir

Pine Armanda

These seeds cost much more than their Chinese counterparts.

But they look much better. They are clean, pleasant to look at, undamaged.

I hope for them

Now I can only wait

Here are all my future bonsai trees

I will not throw out these seeds, but I will hardly put them again.

I'll wait

If you are interested in this topic, then I will be shooting more videos

I want to add that I do not have any experience in this field. I will study with you

Thank you for watching

Jeep Wrangler JK RedRock Stubby Front Bumper w/ Stinger - LED - Winch (2007-2018) Review & Install - Duration: 5:32.

This RedRock 4x4 Stubby Front Bumper with Winch Mount and Stinger and LED Lights is

for those of you that have a 2007 to 2018 JK that are looking for a stubby bumper that

has a ton of features packed into it all at a very fair price.

This is a bumper that won't install pretty easily onto your Jeep.

I'm gonna give it a two out of three wrenches only because of the wiring necessary to get

these lights worked out.

But other than that, the bumper will bolt directly onto your Jeep.

And we'll talk a little bit more about the installation in just a second.

Now, this is going to be a stubby front bumper, so a lot of you guys are gonna be installing

it because you're on a 37-inch tire, you're having some appearance issues between your

factory front bumper and that big tire.

Others are just going to wanna run a stubby bumper because you like the look of it, and

that's perfectly okay, too.

This does give your Jeep a very utility look, a very off-road style and look to it.

Like I said, this also has a ton of other features that I'm gonna get into in just a

second.

Overall, I think RedRock 4x4 does a really nice job of balancing quality and price, so

I think you're going to get a ton of features in a nice, compact, good-looking package all

for a very fair price.

So I guess that I think this is a very well-built package.

This is .16-inch thick steel.

It's a .12-inch wall thickness, 2-inch diameter, 2 for the stinger, covered in a textured black

powder coat finish.

It's gonna look good.

It's gonna hold up well, resisting rust and corrosion.

So, overall, again, a pretty nice little package here.

But what I really like about this is all of the features.

As it says in the name, Winch Mount, Lights, Stinger.

It's got a lot going on.

So usually when you have a stinger bumper, there's not a lot of space there.

You're not going to get to reuse your factory fog lights.

And that's the case with this bumper.

However, this does give you a set of LED lights that are going to be able to be used in place

of those factory fogs if you choose to.

You can really switch them in a variety of different ways, but they're gonna be included

with the bumper.

And they install right inside of the bumper, making for a really seamless installation.

All right.

Next to those lights, you're gonna have some d-ring mounts.

They're gonna need to be welded and bolted directly onto the frame, giving you a really

strong recovery point.

And this also does come with the d-rings, which, while it's not a make or break reason

to buy this bumper over another one, it is nice you have that convenience.

You don't have to remember to buy something extra.

We're in the middle of the bumper.

Of course, you have your winch mount.

This will hold up to a 12,000-pound winch, and you have the slot in the center for your

fairlead.

This is also going to sink the winch down a little bit, giving you a little bit of a

sleeker look from the front, which is something I really like.

And then, of course, this has a stinger on it as well.

Now, originally, a stinger was there so if you're coming down a really steep obstacle,

the Jeep starts to flip forward on you.

It's gonna hit the stinger which will kick it to one side or the other, putting it back

down to the tires.

It was also there in case you were to roll over or flop completely on your lid.

The weight of the vehicle would be held up by the stinger and not crush the radiator,

so you could just flip the Jeep back over again and keep cruising.

Now, this is going to be more of a style thing than anything else.

This doesn't have a ton of gussets on it.

It's not going to add a ton of additional strengths.

So it's not really going to be able to stand up to all that abuse.

But if you do like the look of a stinger, this is certainly going to provide that.

So, as you can see, this thing has a ton of features built into a nice, compact, stubby

bumper, and all at a very fair price.

I think this is a really nice choice for you.

This bumper's gonna run you $450.

That includes the lights.

It includes the stinger and the winch mount, everything that you see here.

And I've said it a couple of times that I do think that it's a very fair price for what

you're getting.

A lot of stubby bumpers certainly leaving some stuff out because there's not a lot of

real estate.

I think this packs a ton of great features into a nice, compact piece that's still really

well-built.

And it still looks good so I think this is a very fairly-priced package.

So, like I said, two out of three wrenches only because of the wiring necessary on this

bumper.

The first step is going to be removing your factory bumper.

You're gonna remove the splash shield and also your frame cover.

You're going to remove the factory fog light sockets from the housings, unbolt the bumper,

remove it from the jeep.

Then you're going to do some assembly on your new bumper.

You're going to get the stinger bolted onto the new bumper.

It's just gonna be easier to get to those bolts while the bumper is on the ground or

on a table than after it's already been installed on the Jeep.

If you are installing a winch on this bumper, I'd also recommend bolting the winch onto

the bumper as well.

Again, it makes it easier to get to those mounting bolts.

The whole package, of course, is gonna be heavier once the stinger and the winch are

mounted onto the bumper, but I do think it's worth it to not have to fight with those bolts.

Once you have everything bolted onto this bumper, it's just a matter of setting it over

the frame horns and bolting it onto the Jeep.

Once that's done, you'll have to get into the wiring, and this is where you have a couple

of different options with how you can switch these.

If you wanted to tap into the factory fog light system, you can do that.

These are not going to be as focused.

They're not going to be a fog beam like your factory lights are, so I still wouldn't recommend

using these while you're rolling down the road with oncoming traffic.

But if you're on a dark back road and you're off-road, you're going to still be able to

use these.

And since you're not using that fog light switch, that factory fog light switch, for

anything else anyway, wiring these to that could be a viable option for you.

If you have another switch panel and you have other switches available, you can go ahead

and wire them to that.

Really up to you.

So if you're looking for a stubby front bumper with a ton of features, I definitely recommend

this option from RedRock 4x4, and you can find it right here at extremeterrain.com.

How NASA's New Probe Will Stay Cool Near The Sun | Maddie About Science - Duration: 3:21.

Betsy: When NASA first was formed, they came up with a list of missions that they wanted

to see happen for the scientific community.

This is the only one that hasn't been done.

This version — Parker Solar Probe — I've been working on it for about 10 years.

Maddie: So you're like, whatever happens happens, right?

You're not too invested in it.

[Laughter]

Maddie: Hey, everybody, it's Maddie Sofia from NPR and Joe's Big Idea, and I'm here

at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and we're going to get an up-close look at the

Parker Solar Probe.

This spacecraft is going to go closer to the sun than we've ever been before.

So let's check it out.

Alright guys, we are in the gowning room and we are with Betsy Congdon.

And Betsy is the lead engineer on the heat shield, which is a pretty important part of

a spaceship that you're sending directly at the sun.

Why do we need to get gowned up?

I mean, we're not going into surgery.

This thing's getting shot into space, right?

Betsy: Yeah, but you shed a lot of particles.

Maddie: That doesn't sound like me.

Maddie: Size eight and a half?

Betsy: Definitely.

And now we're ready to go into the clean room!

Maddie: So, why are we going to the sun?

Great question, Maddie!

Well, there's a lot about the sun we still don't understand.

Like, what's going on with solar wind?

The sun releases a stream of super high-energy particles that zoom past the Earth at more

than a million miles per hour.

That stream can affect space weather and mess with our satellites.

But scientists don't know what causes that supersonic speed.

So, when you were a kid, were you like, "Look at that sun, I'm gonna go to it"?

Betsy: I always wanted to work on spacecraft

when I was a kid, ever since I was a little kid.

I did not know what an engineer was because that's just not something you know at 5,

right, you want to be an astronaut at 5.

But as I got older, I realize what I really love is engineering.

It's getting to take the science and make it a reality.

Maddie: So, why is the probe here?

What's going on here at Goddard, and what's the next step for this probe?

Betsy: So, Parker Solar Probe has been built up over the last couple of years at

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, and we've come here so that we can finish off what we call

environmental testing.

Right now, they're getting ready to go into what we call thermal vacuum testing.

So we'll go into a big chamber and pump it down so it simulates the vacuum of space

and then we put it through the temperature ranges it's going to see at the sun.

Now you might ask, how do you get that hot?

Maddie: Yeah, I was gonna ask that, Betsy.

Let me do my job, Betsy.

I'm not over here telling you how to heat shield!

Go on.

Betsy: We're basically hanging this big oven that we've designed over the spacecraft

so that then the spacecraft is seeing the thermal environment it will see at the sun.

Basically, we're putting it through all its paces to make sure that it can survive

launch as well as when we get to the sun.

Maddie: The probe will take about 7 years to travel closer to the sun than we've ever

been before and NASA will finally complete a mission that was thought up more than fifty years ago.

Betsy: And that's the exciting thing about engineering, you get to take the math,

you get to take the science, you get to put it together and build real stuff

and make things happen.

We're gonna go touch the sun.

Maddie: We're gonna go touch the sun.

Maddie: Hey, everybody, thanks for watching.

Adam: Subscribe to Skunk Bear, NPR's science show.

Maddie: And check out the last episode of Maddie About Science.
