So my study was looking at the effects of yoga incorporated into cardiovascular
rehabilitation on global cardiovascular risk. So I recruited sixty hypertensive
patients and they were randomized into one of two groups. Firstly a group that
did a standard cardiovascular rehabilitation program and secondly, a
group that did the same program, just with yoga incorporated into some of the
parts of the program. And what I found is after doing this program for three
months, the participants saw significant improvements in their global
cardiovascular risk, their ten-year risk of a cardiovascular event, especially in
the yoga intervention where a 13.2% relative risk
reduction was noted. That compared to a 6.5% reduction in the
controlled group. And so if these findings were confirmed in a larger sample size,
yoga could represent an opportunity to improve cardiovascular health.
