Lewis Hamilton took pole for the Japanese Grand Prix with his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas in second and Red Bull's Max Verstappen in third

Hamilton's title rival Sebastian Vettel was in ninth after Ferrari made a mistake in selecting their tyres for the final runs in qualifying when intermittent rain was making the track conditions at Suzuka difficult

Kimi Raikkonen was in fourth with the Haas of Romain Grosjean in fifth.Hamilton took pole with his first lap in Q3 and a time of 1min 27

760.He has been on top all weekend and Mercedes called his tyres correctly when it mattered in the final moments

With Vettel starting down the grid the German driver's hopes of closing the gap to Hamilton in the world championship look to be increasingly forlorn

Rain had begun to fall in the final minutes of the second session but the track had dried by the final shoot out

Ferrari opted to send both drivers out on the intermediate tyres but immediately had to switch them back to the supersoft rubber

It proved a costly error.Vettel was unable to set a good time on his first run on the slick tyres however as the rain had just begun again and the track had been at its driest when the Ferraris were on the intermediate tyres

He went wide at Spoon and could manage only ninth and with the rain beginning to fall again properly the times could not improve

Vettel went off at the second Degner on his second run and Hamilton's first lap proved more than enough to secure pole

He was backed for a front-row lockout for Mercedes, their second in a row, by Bottas who also set his quickest lap in Q3 at the first attempt

Hamilton's eighth pole of the season is only his second at Suzuka.He converted pole to a win here last year but scored his previous two poles in Japan when the race was held at Fuji

He has four wins at the Japanese Grand Prix, one at Fuji and three at Suzuka, the latter all with Mercedes who have yet to be beaten here during the turbo-hybrid era

It is his 80th career pole and continues a run of form that has seen him claim a dominant position in the championship

He has won five of the last six races and taken four of the last six poles.Vettel in contrast has not secured the top spot since the German Grand Prix

Hamilton leads Vettel by 50 points in the world championship with five races remaining and if he can convert this into another win and Vettel cannot comeback strongly the title will be within his grasp

Mercedes have always run well at Suzuka and having proved to be comfortably quicker than Ferrari at the last round in Sochi, they once again had the advantage having been on top over the weekend

Hamilton had topped a one-two for the team in first and second practice and again on Saturday morning, where they had looked ominously strong

Ferrari had been off the pace, Vettel was almost a second back on Friday, although he reduced the gap to just one-tenth in FP3

They proved unable to match Mercedes in pace or strategically when it mattered however

Hamilton's pole position will give him the best possible opportunity from which to impose his will on the race

He has been in fine form all weekend, expressing how much he was enjoying driving the unique challenge of the figure of eight track in the Mie prefecture

Yet again the race will likely be run as a one-stopper for the leaders, making track position paramount

With what appears to be a definitive pace advantage Hamilton and Mercedes look in every position to exploit a dominant performance in qualifying

CAN ISRAEL'S RAMPAGE SUPERSONIC AIR TO SURFACE MISSILE DESTROY S 300 IN SYRIA? - Duration: 4:24.

Russia had declared that it will deliver its S 300 missile system to Syria after the downing

of a Russian plane by Syrian forces responding to an Israeli airstrike.

During a UN press conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated the deliveries

has started.

He said the air defense system "will be devoted to ensuring 100 percent safety and

security of our men in Syria."

The S-300 transfer to Syria is being done using the Russian Antonov An-124, which is

considered to be the largest military transport aircraft in the world.

The deployment has set alarm bells ringing especially in Israel.

A senior Israeli official was quoted, "The S-300 is a complex challenge for the State

of Israel.

We are dealing with the [decision] in different ways, not necessarily by preventing shipment"

This brings us to the topic of this video.

Israel has been developing an advanced weapon for some time now and is expected to be operational

next year with serial production starting in early 2019.

In this video, Defense Updates analyzes if Israel's Rampage supersonic Air to Surface

missile can destroy S 300?

Let's get started.

S 300 is a formidable air defense system.

The current options that Israel has to counter it, may not be good enough.

This is examined in the video on the above card.

It is strongly suggested to watch that video first, if you haven't seen it and then continue

with this one.

Israel's latest weapon-Rampage is being developed to fill certain capablity gap and

add potency to Israel's offensive capacity.

Rampage is air to surface missile being developed by Israeli Military Industries (IMI) systems

in coordination with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

The new weapon was first revealed in a press release on June 11, 2018.

A video was also provided where an IAF F-16I Sufa multi-role combat aircraft was shown

launching one of the missile.

Eli Reiter, head of IMI System's Firepower Division, told Ynet "Sending four fighter

jets carrying four Rampage missiles [each] allows us to strike under conditions we've

never had before".

He added "The weapon offers a quantum leap in performance and extraordinary cost-effectiveness

ratio, two factors which are important to many air forces around the world"

Rampage is derived from IMI System's ground-launched Extended Range Artillery guided artillery

rocket or EXTRA.

The missile uses a GPS-assisted inertial navigation system (INS) guidance package to hit its

intended target.

The guidance package is resistant to Electronic Jamming.

It has a range of 90 miles or 145 km and has supersonic speed of 1 Mach and accuracy of

10 m CEP

Rampage bring in supersonic speed which is not present in Popeye and Delilah cruise missiles.

The supersonic speed provides a significant advantage as this makes the missile much harder

to intercept as well as makes it an excellent option against time-sensitive targets like

the S 300 which is mobile.

But the problem with Rampage is that it has a much smaller range.

This means any aircraft that will use Rampage will be in the target envelop of S 300.

In this situation, any aircraft even Israel's F 35s will be vulnerable.

Keeping in view, it will be very costly and tactically not viable for Israel to attempt

an onslaught on S 300 with aircraft armed with Rampage.

Tenmu Becomes a God | History of Japan 24 - Duration: 6:35.

If you just won a huge war and held more power than anyone else in the country, what would

you do?

Would you sit back and enjoy the spoils?

Would you change the country for the better?

Emperor Tenmu found himself in this position, and he chose to become a god.

Tenmu defeated his nephew, Prince Otomo, in the Jinshin Civil War.

The Jinshin War was like this YouTube channel, it was important and transformative, but it

doesn't get enough credit.

Tenmu's win allowed him and his successors to transform the limited Yamato court into

an Imperial Japan, paving the way for a strong central government.

Tenmu milked his victory like one milks an almond.

Does that make sense?

Who cares.

He made room for his allies in the new government by executing and exiling his nephew's allies.

Occupying the very tippy top of the government were his consort, the future Empress Jito,

and his sons.

It became a court ruled by Tenmu's branch of the Imperial Family.

Tenmu also brought back the Kabane titles of nobility.

Prince Shotoku had taken steps to phase out the Kabane system years before.

In the old system, there were dozens of titles, the highest being omi and muraji.

The strongest clan leaders hung out at these top two levels.

The omi and muraji titles survived Shotoku's reforms, allowing the influential clan leaders

to stay in power.

Tenmu brought back the kabane system, but he was a devious dude, so he reformed it to

his benefit.

Tenmu reduced it to 8 ranks, but he put omi and muraji near the bottom.

The top titles went to Tenmu's allies during the war and the clans that supported him.

You would think this would have made the omi and muraji leaders resentful, and it did.

But it would have been worse if he had removed the omi and muraji titles altogether.

Although these titles were no longer as influential, because they had been in effect for so long,

they still held prestige.

It's like being class president.

It sounds cool, but you just end up choosing what kind of toilet paper goes in the school

restrooms.

One ply or half ply.

Tenmu's change allowed the old elites to keep their prestigious titles, while creating

a new class of elites, friendly to him.

Tenmu attained more power than the emperors before him.

With this power, Emperor Tenmu decided to do something that was either genius or massively

egotistical, probably both.

He decided it would be fun to be a god.

If you could ask Tenmu why he did what he did, he'd probably tell you it was for the

good of Japan, and it would be hard to argue with that.

At the time, the shadow of Silla hovered over the Japanese archipelago.

Silla had taken control of the Korean Peninsula.

If they had chosen to invade, Japan, with no unified army, would have been in trouble.

From his experience in the Jinshin War, Tenmu knew what a hassle it was to go to each regional

clan chieftain to muster troops for an adequate army.

Tenmu made reforms to strengthen the central government, following in the footsteps of

previous reformers like Shotoku and Tenji.

He made military changes like creating Imperial armies around the capital and at strategic

regions, making chieftains military commanders for the court, and improving roads so troops

can move about freely.

Tenmu pushed for the governmental changes that we talked about earlier to build a unified

state that could combat foreign threats.

He used China as a model for his reforms, like his predecessors.

He also looked at the governments of the Korean kingdoms to figure out what to do and what

not to do.

To put it in simple fifth grade terms, the Paekche king didn't listen enough to his

ministers, and the Koguryo king listened too much.

Silla's government was in-between.

The king was strong, but so were his ministers.

The throne made decisions after ample discussion with his court.

Tenmu liked that model.

It obviously worked because Silla was victorious.

So how and why did Tenmu make himself a god?

Remember that religion and superstition permeated people's lives back then.

Religious power led to secular power.

Tenmu made the Ise Grand Shrine the most important shrine and dictated that an Imperial princess

must always be at the Ise shrine to worship the Sun Goddess Amaterasu.

He placed the Sun Goddess above all other kami.

It was the Imperial House's ancestral kami.

He and his successor Empress Jito commissioned the creation of the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki,

the oldest Japanese historical texts that survived to the modern day.

There was a lot of propaganda in these texts, let's be honest.

The writers often engaged in a writing technique called, um, making sh--t up.

The claim that the Imperial house can trace its ancestry back to the Sun Goddess is found

in these works.

The texts legitimized the Japanese emperor by proclaiming that he had divine blood, making

him a divine being.

They created a whole line of emperors at the beginning to link the emperors to the Sun

Goddess.

The texts also legitimized Emperor Tenmu himself by portraying him as the good guy in the Jinshin

War.

Not saying he wasn't a good guy, but there is only one side of the story, one very friendly

side.

After Tenmu's death, his consort took the throne as Empress Jito.

By that time, Tenmu, Jito, and their offsprings were already being called living kami, descendants

of the Sun Goddess.

It was either Tenmu or Jito that started using the term tenno to refer to the emperor.

Tenno means heavenly king.

This is usually translated as emperor in English.

They then retroactively used tenno for all previous emperors.

The Japanese went further than China in its veneration of the emperor.

In China, the emperor had the Mandate of Heaven.

Not to be confused with the Man Date In Heaven, which is just having a good time at the most

famous gay club in London.

The Mandate did not mean the Chinese emperor was a god.

It was a divine right to rule granted to a mortal by Heaven.

The Japanese were like, "Oh yeah?

Our emperor's not even mortal.

He is a god, a descendant of Amaterasu."

From mysterious aircrafts to strange lights in the sky, here are 9 UFO sighting from around

the world: Number 9 Pori, Finland

Around 20 pilots on a training camp at the Air Force of Finland observed seven yellow

spheres appear in the sky on December 4, 1969.

They were training in Pori, in southwest Finland, and hovering approximately 6600 feet above

the airfield when they saw the unidentified flying objects.

The seven yellow spheres were also seen on radar, but nobody could tell what they were.

Pilot Tarmo Tukeva was ordered to go check out the strange sighting but when he approached

the location with his jet the spheres started to move in formation, speeding away towards

the North.

They reportedly flew so fast his jet couldn't keep up.

There were winds of 114 mph at the time but the objects still managed to reach incredible

speeds.

The Air Force of Finland was never able to provide an explanation for this strange encounter.

It's the only UFO case officially acknowledged by the institution.

Number 8 Trans-en-Provence, France Retired farmer Renato Nicolai was working

in his garden outside the town of Trans-en-Provence in the evening of January 8, 1981.

It was around 5pm when he heard a strange whistling sound and looked up to see what

he thought was an experimental aircraft.

The object was shaped like two saucers sitting one on top of the other and was about eight

feet in diameter.

The unidentified object landed about 100 feet from him.

However, Nicolai claimed the UFO took off almost immediately, leaving burn marks on

the ground where it allegedly landed.

The following day, the farmer notified the gendarmerie of what he'd seen.

Officers interviewed Nicolai and took photos of the scene and collected soil samples.

The case was then sent to a study group for unidentified airspace phenomena called GEIPAN.

Renato Nicolai's sighting ended up being the most carefully documented sighting of

Even though the French government found evidence of compacting and heating of the soil near

A Socorro police officer on duty that night Lonnie Zamora was baffled by the blue light

rising in the air.

At first he thought he was seeing flames.

He was actually in a high-speed chase when he decided to investigate the flames.

Thinking he'd find a crash or a miners' shack explosion, Zamora went in the direction

of the light.

He heard a roar that lasted for 10 seconds and then stopped.

As he was struggling to get his car up a hill, he noticed a shiny object resembling a white

car with two people standing closeby.

Zamora drove towards them, but they left before he could approach them.

He got a closer look at the object and described it as being oval, made of aluminum, with no

windows or doors.

Soon, a bluish flame shot out of the bottom of the object, and it took off quickly and

silently, vanishing before Zamora could radio in what he'd just seen.

The case was investigated by the Army, Air Force and the FBI, however nobody could come

up with an explanation for what officer Lonnie Zamora saw that night.

The case is still listed as an 'unknown'.

Number 4 Japan Air Lines Flight 1628 On November 7, 1968, Air Lines flight 1628,

a Japanese Boeing 747 cargo aircraft, was on route from Paris to Narita, Tokyo.

At 5:11 PM, while flying above Reykjavik, the crew noticed two unidentified objects

to the left of the aircraft.

The UFOs rose from below and both seemed to have rectangular arrays of what appeared to

be glowing thrusters or nozzles.

When they closed in, the cabin was reportedly lit up and Japanese captain Kenju Terauchi

could feel heat on his face.

After a couple of minutes, the two flying objects departed and a larger disk-shaped

object started trailing the aircraft.

The pilots quickly requested a change of course, so Anchorage Air Traffic Control requested

an oncoming United Airlines fight to confirm the unidentified traffic.

However, a military craft sighted Japan Air Lines Flight 1628 at about 5:51 PM and was

not able to distinguish any other craft.

The sighting lasted 50 minutes, according to the crew, and ended in the vicinity of

Mt. McKinley.

The plane changed course again for Anchorage.

In the aftermath of the incident, Captain Kenju Terauchi was grounded for talking to

the press.

Kyodo News contacted the FAA in Anchorage on December 24 and received confirmation of

the incident.

After a three-month investigation, FAA public information officer Paul Steucke stated they

didn't have enough evidence to confirm the flying objects were there, after earlier suggesting

that their controllers confirmed a UFO.

Number 3 Pretoria, South Africa A heart-shaped UFO allegedly stunned residents

from Booysens, Pretoria, for two consecutive nights in July 2010.

The unidentified object consisted of three almost blinding lights which hovered in the

sky for approximately two hours without moving.

The lights reportedly appeared for the first time on the evening of August 21, shortly

after sunset.

At around 8:30pm, the UFO slowly began moving diagonally to the left and downwards until

disappearing beyond the horizon.

The next day, after sunset, the three lights once again appeared.

Residents using binoculars still couldn't figure out what the object was due to its

strange shape.

formation above the Arthur Fill Waterway.

Witnesses later reported they saw approximately 16 lights in the sky around 15 minutes after

midnight.

The lights moved quietly and flickered as they started vanishing into the night, one

by one.

Air traffic controllers on duty that night denied any sightings.

However, the New York Strange Phenomena Investigators claimed to have obtained FAA radar data that

confirmed the UFO.

At least 15 people contacted the police department in order to report the sightings that night.

Officials were never able to explain the phenomenon.

Number 1 North Carolina, USA Thirty-five-year-old Javion Hill caused quite

a controversy on social media after posting a photo of a UFO in August 2018.

Hill, a self-proclaimed sceptic of such encounters, photographed a strange square lighted object

hovering in the sky.

He took the photo while driving along U.S. Highway 74 southwest of Charlotte, thinking

a tornado was coming.

However, he soon noticed the unusual object in the sky and tried to pull over to start

filming.

The object reportedly disappeared quickly and rain began to fall.

As of now, officials still have no explanations regarding Hill's sighting.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center in Washington State, North Carolina is in

After a couple of minutes, the two flying objects departed and a larger disk-shaped

object started trailing the aircraft.

The pilots quickly requested a change of course, so Anchorage Air Traffic Control requested

an oncoming United Airlines fight to confirm the unidentified traffic.

However, a military craft sighted Japan Air Lines Flight 1628 at about 5:51 PM and was

not able to distinguish any other craft.

The sighting lasted 50 minutes, according to the crew, and ended in the vicinity of

Mt. McKinley.

The plane changed course again for Anchorage.

In the aftermath of the incident, Captain Kenju Terauchi was grounded for talking to

the press.

Kyodo News contacted the FAA in Anchorage on December 24 and received confirmation of

the incident.

After a three-month investigation, FAA public information officer Paul Steucke stated they

didn't have enough evidence to confirm the flying objects were there, after earlier suggesting

that their controllers confirmed a UFO.

Number 3 Pretoria, South Africa A heart-shaped UFO allegedly stunned residents

from Booysens, Pretoria, for two consecutive nights in July 2010.

The unidentified object consisted of three almost blinding lights which hovered in the

sky for approximately two hours without moving.

The lights reportedly appeared for the first time on the evening of August 21, shortly

after sunset.

At around 8:30pm, the UFO slowly began moving diagonally to the left and downwards until

disappearing beyond the horizon.

The next day, after sunset, the three lights once again appeared.

Residents using binoculars still couldn't figure out what the object was due to its

strange shape.

The incident was reported to the Hercules police station, the Johannesburg Planetarium

and the South African Air Force.

Number 2 New Jersey Turnpike, USA Motorists travelling on the New Jersey turnpike

the night of July 14 2001 were dazzled by an unusual sight.

They stopped alongside a highway as they noticed mysterious orange and yellow lights in a V

formation above the Arthur Fill Waterway.

Witnesses later reported they saw approximately 16 lights in the sky around 15 minutes after

midnight.

The lights moved quietly and flickered as they started vanishing into the night, one

by one.

Air traffic controllers on duty that night denied any sightings.

However, the New York Strange Phenomena Investigators claimed to have obtained FAA radar data that

confirmed the UFO.

At least 15 people contacted the police department in order to report the sightings that night.

Officials were never able to explain the phenomenon.

Number 1 North Carolina, USA Thirty-five-year-old Javion Hill caused quite

a controversy on social media after posting a photo of a UFO in August 2018.

Hill, a self-proclaimed sceptic of such encounters, photographed a strange square lighted object

hovering in the sky.

He took the photo while driving along U.S. Highway 74 southwest of Charlotte, thinking

a tornado was coming.

However, he soon noticed the unusual object in the sky and tried to pull over to start

filming.

The object reportedly disappeared quickly and rain began to fall.

As of now, officials still have no explanations regarding Hill's sighting.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center in Washington State, North Carolina is in

the top 10 American states when it comes to UFO sightings.
