The Best Pitch Tips From Shark Tank Season 10 Episode 1 | Inc. - Duration: 3:14.
I'm Emily Canal, I'm a Shark Tank expert I've been reporting on the show for the
last three years and I'm here to talk to you today about a particularly good
pitch from episode 1 of season 10.
Corey and Heidi Santiago, a husband and wife duo. They were seeking $100,000
for 20% of their company which is a camping cookware company.
The Bear Bowl, the cook pot, that folds flat.
I've seen every single Shark Tank pitch from the
last 9 seasons and they really stood out from all the others.
Originally they had gone on Kickstarter seeking $1,000 and they ended up getting $40,000 so
they really showed that there was a demand and an interest in this product
and that it was also small they had created one product in three sizes and
that's what they were at. You could really screw that up by coming in with
an idea. Like, I'm gonna create this amazing thing and then you do not have the
product, you have nothing to show for it, no interest, you may not have even
invested a ton of money in it or you're still working your day job. It shows the
Sharks that you're not interested, you're not invested, this isn't your life
They want your product to be your life.
And the Santiagos showed the high demand for their product really well.
Another thing that Santiago's did well
was they made sure to sell their company and themselves perfectly.
When they did they talked about
how they have 5 kids together and they had gone
through very difficult times.
We did bring the product to market and our
middleman, long story short, ran off with our money.
Oh no
And we never heard from him again.
I think as soon as they opened up and shared that story that's when
they seal the pitch. That's when they were gonna walk away with a deal no matter what.
You don't have a business background? That's fine.
You taught yourself? Great. You struggled? You fell? Awesome.
Just show them that in a way
that shows them also that you're willing to try and going to work and that's what
the Santiago's did by showing their previous business failure in addition to
where they were going next. And the final thing I want to point out that they did
really really well was not succumbing to the pressure that Mark Cuban was putting
on them you should say yes right now that's offer I would just really
be concerned about whether or not that offer disappears there's a lot of
pressure on that show to make a deal and make it quickly and I think a lot of the
sharks feed into that the couple decided that they wanted to deliberate a little
bit they did that in the same room which was really smart they didn't step out
and give the Sharks a chance to kind of make other deals behind the doors they
did a good job of seeming calm and answering questions and at the same time
moving the process along and making sure they heard the deals and then pretty
quickly settled on one their pitch was really strong the only thing I didn't
love was that the bowls were delivered by a large fuzzy bear mascot who kind of
came out to the Sharks and handed them a ball and then fist-pumped a couple I
think that that can take away from your pitch you don't need something
distracting or even risk messing your pitch up if it tripped over a shark or
offended Mark Cuban in some way with his fuzzy paw
The 3 big takeaways are: come in with proof of concept,
show emotion but be sincere about it.
And don't succumb to pressure.
And maybe don't bring a bear.
Again, I'm Emily Canal

Men's Soccer vs. Ohio Valley - Duration: 1:03.
The service as opposed to a shot on frame but l'll see. Hughes nice ball in, flick, goal for the Yellow Jackets!
Yeah, yeah Ohio Valley's a really good team we wanted to come up with a plan
where we felt like we could not only defend them but also have the ball
possess attack and do some of the things that we feel like we're capable of doing
so I was just really proud of the way the guys supported each other trusted the
system that we wanted to play and held each other accountable I think you saw
that throughout the game our discipline was really good and it was just gonna be
a matter of could we create a chance, could we be solid defensively and we
were able to do both those things. Definitely the best, the best team we
played this whole season they just knew how to possess the ball and our game
plan going in was to take that away from them
and so we were frustrating them in the first half and we got tired and you saw
in the second half they got chances and then we created and we kept them in the
middle we don't want them to go to the wings because that's what they usually do and it
paid off in the end they're a very good team.

20. Mouth-watering Kerala Pumpkin - red beans Erissery - Duration: 7:34.
Hello friends, today I am sharing with you the recipe for a Mathanga - payar erissery (Pumpkin - red beans curry)
Ingredients: 150 g red beans (payar) - washed well and soaked in water for 2 days
250g pumpkin - sliced, Salt, Pepper powder, Cumin seeds, Coconut powder, 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder, 3 tsp Crushed red chilies, Mustard seeds, 2 Dried red chilies, few Curry leaves,
A ground paste of 2 tbsp coconut powder and 1/4 tsp cumin seeds, Olive oil, Water
The beans were soaked in water for 2 days because most lentils and beans have something called 'lectin' which causes leaky gut and problems with the immune system (eg: inflammation, arthritis)
To reduce the effect of lectin, I am washing the beans well in water for 2 days. If it sprouts, that is good too. Change the water thrice a day so the beans won't get a bad smell
We are going to pressure cook these beans, which is also said to remove the lectin in them
We will cook the red beans using 1/4 cup of water, in a pressure cooker. At the same time, in another vessel, cook the pumpkin with 1/2 cup water.
The pumpkin and red bean has different requirements for cooking, so if they are put together initially, the pumpkin may get overcooked. So we cook them separately
Before beginning to cook red beans and the pumpkin add in each vessel 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, a pinch of pepper powder, 1 1/2 tsp crushed red chilies, salt to taste. Now cook them separately
You can see that the pumpkin has not become mushy here. So it has been cooked properly
Once done, mix both the red beans and pumpkin and cook for 2-3 mins.
Now add the ground paste of coconut powder and cumin seeds prepared earlier.
You can add more coconut if you like, but I use little to keep the dish healthy. Excess coconut has been linked to cholesterol issues
To garnish, take 2 tbsp olive oil. Add the mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds begin to splutter, add two dried red chilies and few curry leaves.
Now add about 1 tbsp coconut powder and fry lightly.
Add this garnish to the pumpkin-red beans mixture prepared earlier.
Our Erissery is ready. If you require more salt, red chilies etc, you can add more.
The things to note during this preparation are 1) Wash the beans well and soak them for 2 days. Pressure cook before use. 2) Cook the beans and pumpkin separately initially
and 3) Use less coconut. Fried coconut can increase cholesterol levels if used often. Fresh coconut is safer.

Module 7 Housekeeping - Duration: 6:15.
Welcome back. I hope that everybody had a good week. This is the Housekeeping
section of our module and I have a couple of things that are going to be
important to go over with you so, sit through this whole thing. We'll keep
it brief, but this will be Module 7 and we're going to run this the same way
that we have the previous modules. But I want to draw your attention to next week.
Next week module 8 is going to be your midterm. And there's a couple of
important details about this: normally you can you can earn up to 50 points
each week. Module 8 - midterm is bumped up to 200 points. So this midterm and the final,
which is going to run the same way, are worth almost half of the points in the
course. So I need you to carve out some time - make sure that you that you do have
time to go through the midterm. Again because there's just so many points that
you don't want to miss it. Circle it on your calendar a week after
next - Week Eight will be your midterm. And it'll be a busy week because we'll have
a new movie, you'll have a lecture on the movie, Discussion Board for the movie and
then you're going to have a comprehensive Quiz. You'll have your
quiz questions about Week Eight's movie but then you're also going to have
questions that stretch back to the beginning of the semester and all the
quizzes you've taken on all the movies that you've seen. Now how canvas does
that is it's going to pull randomly so you may get three questions on On the
Waterfront and you may have none on Bicycle Thieves - I don't control that.
It's going to be a random pull on the questions. So I need you to
be ready for that and in between the Housekeeping
and then the Lecture on the movie and before we get into the Quiz I will have
a page set up just to review all our Powerpoints on the movies that will
be included on the quiz. So it's going to be a little bit more work. You need to
need to set aside some time to do that. And if I can make this recommendation do
not wait until the last minute on Monday afternoon to to do your work. There's
just too many points for you. Okay the other suggestion that I'd like to make
is about your workflow process and how you're answering the questions
in the Discussion Board. We had a colleague this week who did a lot of
work - typed in good and long answers on the Discussion Board but typed it
right into canvas and the Discussion Board - went to post it - had a problem and
it wouldn't post and then it swallowed up his work and it's answers. So I'm
gonna recommend that going forward you should probably be typing up your
answers into a word processing program and then save that - open up canvas, open
up the Discussion Board and then just cut and paste your post into it. That way
if you do have a glitch in the software or a technology problem, you haven't lost
the work that you do in answering the questions. And some of those
answers - there's a few people that are just writing brilliant brilliant
posts. I really appreciate it, it's a lot of work and I'd hate to see any of you
folks lose the work that you did you do. And I want to make sure that you're answering
the questions that I'm asking. If there's two questions break your response into
two paragraphs and make sure that you're hitting both of the questions Okay don't
get sidetracked on just one of them. And then for next week's Module Eight,
the midterm, in the syllabus I have listed the movie as Amadeus and i'm
gonna change that to Easy Rider - still music plays a heavy role in Easy Rider
but the biggest reason for the change here is that Easy Riders is an hour shorter
than Amadeus and with all the extra work and the midterm I don't want to assign a
two and a half hour plus movie which is what Amadeus is. So we're gonna
shift it up, we won't look at Amadeus this semester and we're
shifting it to Easy Rider. So it'll save you an hour.
It's a great movie if you get a chance to watch it the
techniques of the Big Musical is the extravagance and the way that they sew
the music into it is amazing. If you get a chance to watch it but for our
purposes in the course Module 8 will be Easy Rider. So now it's shorter like I
mentioned and if you're ordering and preordering from Netflix
Go right now and add that movie to your queue, drop Amadeus, and then move Easy
Rider to the top of your queue. So you'll have this week, Week 7, to make sure that
you have the movie for Week 8 in your in your hands at the beginning of November
15th. Alright that's it for Housekeeping and now let's head over and and look at
this week's movie.
