Guide: Restoring and maintaining a PEI printbed! - Duration: 5:13.

So I've run into the issue on pretty much all of my PEI-equipped 3D printers, where,

after a while, prints just start refusing to stick well.

So I tried adding glue stick or 3DLac, which again, is one of those stupid products that

tries to be unique by having a name that is spelled wrong, but is supposed to be pronounced

like the real thing, which works in forums but is pointless in spoken language - but

I digress.

The bed on this MK2 is already freshened up, and parts stick like crazy.

[REMOVE PARTS] Yes, that's a chisel, and yes, if you're not careful, you're going

to mess up your bed even more with this.

But let's check out what it takes to get a PEI bed working as good as new again and

how to keep it that way.

Depending on how much you've mistreated your PEI surface, you're going to need a

few different things.

For a basic cleanse, you'll need warm water and some sort of alcohol, I use denatured

ethanol.

If you want to go deeper and completely reset the surface, you'll also need a stronger

solvent like Acetone, Ethyl Acetate aka nail polish remover might also work.

And for the finishing touch, some medium to fine steel wool, this is the only part that

will actually remove material from the PEI sheet, so don't use a super coarse pot scrubber,

but the regular steel wool removes so little material that you're more likely going to

rip the PEI before you actually start wearing it through.

Also, if you treat the bed well and clean it regularly, you'll rarely need any abrasive

at all.

Because I have various substances on here, I'm going to start with the least aggressive

solvent, water.

Either use warm water or preheat the heated bed and, of course, don't forget to unplug

the printer after that.

The water softens and dissolves any PVA-based adhesive like glue stick etc.

It needs to soak a bit, so I'm taking a paper towel and using that to keep the water

spread out.

[APPLY WATER] As with any of the solvents, make sure it stays on the bed only and doesn't

drip down into bearings and electronics.

After a minute or so, most of the glue stick and similar materials will have softened and

you can start wiping them off.

Make sure you get as much of it off and take a few passes if necessary.

[WIPE PRINTER] Next up, acetone, this will dissolve most polymer-based coatings and take

off any grease that might still be on there.

Technically, you should be wearing the proper gloves, by the way.

PEI, Kapton etc are typically not dissolved by acetone, so you're not damaging the bed

surface here.

Again, take a few passes until there's nothing coming off of the PEI surface anymore.

[USE ACETONE] And next up, steel wool.

This actually does two things: First off, it takes off a tiny bit off of the top, exposing

some fresh PEI, and it also roughens up the surface a bit, so, in theory, you get a bit

more surface area for printed parts to stick to.

I don't know which one has the greater effect, but I do know that it works.

And you don't have to scrub super hard here, it's more of a peeling than a complete surface

grind.

[USE STEEL WOOL] Now, what I've found to work best here is

to always use denatured alcohol right before every print - in this case, obviously, it

takes away all the dust and particles and grease you might have gotten onto the bed,

but since PEI is relatively sensitive even to just fingerprints, quickly wiping it down

before every single 3D print is what I've found to give optimum adhesion, and for some

reason, using acetone instead to wipe the bed down before a print doesn't quite give

you the same results.

[WIPE WITH ALCOHOL] Now, you do have to be careful when removing

the parts, because you can get them to stick extremely well.

Prusa's standard PEI is on 0.175mm thick, aka 175 microns, which isn't a lot.

Especially flexibles and polyesters, so PETG etc like to really bond to the surface, so

print the first layer a bit cooler if you're afraid to rip a chunk out of the PEI sheet.

I do sorta speak out of experience here.

My favorite approach is to use that wood chisel, flat against the bed to get as many of the

of the corners to lift, and then using a spatula, if necessary, to get the rest of the print

unstuck from the bed.

3D Prima actually sell PEI sheets up 2mm thick, which should be able to take a substantial

amount of abuse before giving up.

And you can like, literally sand it down if you ever have to.

I've tried in the past to patch in little spots with glue stick where I had ripped the

PEI, which was better than nothing and allowed me to keep using the PEI sheet for longer

than i should have, of course, sooner or later it just has has to go, but replacing it is

a huge pain since the 3M adhesive sticks incredibly well to both the PEI and the surface you stick

it onto, so it's best to keep it usable as long as you can.

So even though this was a short episode, I hope it still helped out a few of you out

there, if you feel like it, there's always that Like subscribe affiliate-link and Patreon

thing you can do, thanks for that, and I'll see you in the next one.

Brendan Gallagher meets a 91-year-old fan - Duration: 2:57.

It got tweeted at me last night -- I was just laying around doing nothing -- and I clicked on it,

watched it, and I couldn't stop smiling.

It was something that I thought was pretty cool.

It reminds me of my grandma, you know, her excitement watching at home.

So it was just pretty cool.

My name is Irene Durdon, and I'm a great fan of the Canadiens hockey team.

I've been a fan for quite a few years, of the Canadiens.

The way he plays, and when he gets knocked down, there's still a big smile on his face.

She really enjoys watching the games at home.

And just recently, she started talking about how she'd like to go to a game, see the Canadiens play,

and then it became more of a dream and a wish.

It's something that she really, felt very very excited, and wanted to happen.

She's so excited about it, and seeing expressions on her face, I'm in awe with it.

We got the call, and we were told that there were going to be four seats, and so with the tickets,

there was a little note.

If you'd like to see it, my daughter has the little note, so we want to say to him a thank you as well,

because we really appreciate having this wonderful opportunity.

She has -- her whole apartment is decorated, and I call it the Nan Cave instead of the Man Cave.

She just, she tapes every game, if it's too late.

She watches every game, she calls me to make sure she knows the schedule.

I thought, maybe that the players were kind of untouchable, and to know that he's just,

he's a regular guy, and for him to see that there's a fan so in love with him, that it just,

it blew me away.

I don't know how to put it into words, but it's just really something for a player to actually put that out.

Mum watches how you play, and she just brags about you all the time.

Well I saw the video, and I couldn't stop smiling. It was...

You saw the video?

Yeah, I saw it, it was very cool!

There's nothing better.

Everyone talks, whenever you to talk to, or you hear players being interviewed

and they talk about the Canadiens, it's always about how it's a first-class organization.

And from the moment we stepped into the building, that's what it's been, and to have these seats...

No words could ever express our gratitude for it.

It was nice.

I think my fan zone is usually from 12, 13, 14...

So it was a little bit different, a little unique, but it's definitely cool to have her here.

Quantum Suicide - Why you might be immortal - Duration: 5:04.

Hello mortals, or, should I call you – immortals?

Today's topic is fairly counterintuitive, or even straight up crazy.

It involves complicated quantum mechanics and fancy math, but the result is worth it,

as it may make you immortal.

Do you remember the Schrodinger's cat?

Me neither.

Briefly, if you put it in a box with a bomb that would go off if an electron would spin

up, it would die.

If the electron spins down, nothing happens.

The electron is being measured every second.

If you close the box and wait a second, you would expect the cat to be either alive or

dead.

However, in quantum mechanics, things can exist in a superposition, that is, in both

states at the same time, until observed.

If observed, the superposition breaks and the universe chooses a random outcome.

So, inside the box, if not being observed, the electron will be in a superposition and

spin both ways at the same time.

Because the cat's life depends on the electron's spin, it would also exist in 2 states, alive,

and dead, at the same time.

The bomb also, exploded and not exploded at the same time.

This is called the Copenhagen interpretation.

And, there is a good chance that it is wrong.

But not all is lost.

There is another one, more widely accepted and even crazier – the Many Worlds Interpretation.

It states that when the superposition is broken, instead of only one possibility being chosen

at random, the universe splits in all the possible outcomes.

In this case, the cat is both alive, and dead, but in parallel universes.

I swear I'm not making this up, this is solid science.

Now, back to the topic of our video – "Quantum suicide and immortality".

Take the Schrodinger's cat and replace the cat with yourself.

It's the only way to do it.

Now measure the electron.

Initially, your chances of survival are 50%.

And so on, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%.

After 50 attempts, the chance of survival is 0.00000000000009%, yet you are still somehow

alive.

What is going on?

Why don't you die?

The answer becomes clear when we look at it from the Many-Worlds-Interpretation.

Each second, the universe splits in 2, one in which you remain alive and one in which

you are dead.

Because you can't exist in a universe in which you died, your consciousness continues

only in the universes in which you are alive.

Each time the universe divides, you experience only the version of the universe in which

you are alive.

In all of the other options, you are dead, and thus, can't experience them.

That's why, it seems that you can't die no matter how many times you try to, when

in reality you are going only on a narrow slice of all the possible universes, in which

you are alive.

On the other hand, in all of the other universes, everyone has seen you die.

So no matter how many times you will try to commit suicide, if there is even the slightest

chance that you will survive your attempt, from your perspective, you will be immortal.

Or, better said, immune to suicide.

However you won't be able to live forever.

Eventually, because of aging, all of the universes will result in your death.

After all, is quantum suicide real?

Does it work in real life?

Should you give it a try?

Here are the pros: If it works, you will prove that the MWI and quantum immortality works,

but only to your narrow slice of universe, as everyone else will just simply see you

as dead.

In fact, you could theoretically put all of the humanity in the box, so that everyone

goes through the experiment.

Now if that doesn't work, you fucked up pretty bad.

What about the cons?

MWI might not be true after all, and you would just die.

Even if it works, all your loved ones from all the universes in which you died will be

a little bit sad.

I might also be legally punished for encouraging a suicide.

So, is it worth the gamble?

As the scientist, Max Tegmark put it: "I'd be Ok but my wife, Angelica, would become

a widow.

Perhaps I'll do the experiment one day – when I'm old and crazy."

Le Jardin Retrouvé: Обзор всех ароматов! +ENG SUBS | Anisia Beauty - Duration: 15:43.

Hello, friends! Today I will tell you about a very unusual fragrance brand - Le Jardin Retrouve,

which can be translated as a new-found garden.

This perfume house was founded by a perfumer of Russian origin named Yuri Hutsatz

who created many fragrances for such perfume houses as, for example, Carven and Estee Lauder, and has made a huge contribution in perfumery in general.

The brand existed under the guidance of Yuri and his wife Arlette from 1975 until 2012, when Arlette passed away.

This perfume house can be called both old and new, because it is rightfully considered the first niche perfume house,

and at the same time, these fragrances were re-released last year, and the brand was completely updated and restarted

by Yuri's son, Michel Gusatz and his wife Clara, who was engaged in the design of the brand.

They completely revised the concept of the brand, modernized the formulas of fragrances, but at the same time the formulas remained as close to the originals of Yuri as possible.

And what seems most important to me, they put an emphasis on the environmental friendliness of the brand -

the only option of their packaging is a refillable bottle, in order to avoid a vicious circle from buying to throwing away expensive bottles again and again.

Every time a person buys a refill or a discovery set on the Le Jardin Retrouve website, they donate funds for planting one tree.

And these fragrances can only be purchased online.

One of the sources of inspiration for the brand were gardens, so almost every scent is named after a garden.

If you'd like to know more about the history of this perfume house, under this video I'll leave links to two articles on the fragrantica website,

and also a link to the official website of the brand where you can order samples, including three free samples.

I got these samples in a very unusual packaging - i think i read somewhere that these bags were made of a vintage fabric that Michel's mother brought from India many years ago.

I love the look and i think that this is a really unique approach to the packaging.

And look at these gorgeous sample boxes!

These feature the description on the back side and Clara Feder's art on the front.

And now let's jump straight to the review of these fragrances,

and the first of them is Cuir de Russie (Russian leather) - a fragrance inspired by Nijinsky's dance in soft leather boots.

Surprisingly fresh, tender and floral leathery scent, without a hint of tar traditionally present in Cuir de Russie perfumes.

Fresh notes here smell of tulips, daffodils and soap, with bright crunchy and juicy greens.

This fragrance has a vintage aura, but it does not create a sensation of dust or mustiness, it just smells elegant and a bit old-fashioned.

It has a sensation of aldehydes, crispy cucumber, violets and light suede,

and perhaps this is the most delicate and fresh leather of those leather fragrances in classical style that I have ever tried.

Rose Trocadéro is a bright, red, velvety essential-oil rose with candy citrus, inspired by the Parisian gardens.

At the start, it reminds me of the taste of a rose elixir, a juice made of rose petals I once tasted in Bulgaria and the aroma of flowering rose hips.

It seems to me that fresh notes of this fragrance smell more of a dog rose than of an actual rose.

Over time, bright and harsh green nuances appear, like the aroma of mashed leaves,

and the density of the smell also increases with time - if at first it feels like clear fresh rose water, then after half an hour it's a sticky, dense and thick sugary rose elixir.

Next fragrance is Verveine d'Été - the summer verbena.

A wonderful sparkling citrusy green cologne inspired by the gardens of St. Petersburg.

It's the aroma of lemon verbena and crispy greens.

Perhaps someone will find it too ordinary, but personally I see perfection in detail here -

simple, understandable beauty and genuine, authentic feeling of natural components.

The lemon here is candy-like, but still not overly sweet, with prominent vetiver and oakmoss in the base.

Perhaps, this is the most neat, but at the same time one of the brightest and sparkling fragrances in this collection.

I tried many similar perfumes from such brands as L'Occitane or Guerlain, but this is the best in my honest opinion. Timeless and classy!

Sandalwood Sacré is the first ever fragrance created by Yuri for his perfume house and it was inspired by his journeys to India.

It definitely has a rare vintage mood, i bet almost no one releases such heavily retro inspired perfumes nowadays.

And this is the wonderful case when all the components of the fragrance are very familiar to me, but together they merge into a wonderful unique melody,

a special accord that it's very difficult to separate in my mind and recognize any of these notes.

A wonderful balance between the soapy neroli and musk and the earthiness of the woods, patchouli and moss.

"Gentleman's sandalwood soap" would be the exact phrase to describe this scent!

Tubéreuse Trianon is a bright and sweet narcotic tuberose, telling the story of the Versailles gardens.

Tuberose, jasmine, ylang - an intoxicating firework of white flowers and a little bit of dryish spices and woods.

This aroma is very creamy, roundish and as if enveloping into a fragrant fog.

Together with the Trocadero Rose this is probably the most potent and most modern feeling fragrance of all these that don't make me think directly of vintage and classic perfumes,

although they're both slightly old-fashioned in a good sense, both very feminine and narcotic floral.

This tuberose has a remarkable base: powdery, earthy (but not dusty at all!), i suppose it's the oakmoss that shines here, but i may be wrong.

Anyway, it's a perfect, heavenly match with heavy white floral notes. This is a fragrance exclusively for tuberose lovers.

Citron Boboli - florentine lemons, very cool and wet scent, as if after a rain, with a bit of florals that smell like pollen, and LOTS of zesty citruses.

These citruses have the same fresh candy sweetness as Verveine d'Été, but much more bitterness and zest here,

bright spices, especially cloves, and an incredibly realistic St. John's wort note, greenish, powdery and bright yellow, which I have never encountered in perfumery before.

For me it is the perfect gentleman's citrusy aroma - dusty, spicy and very unusual, and for some reason I have a slight sense of the smell of cocoa beans when this fragrance settles down.

And the last fragrance is Eau des Délices (Water of delights).

It is a citrusy and oakmossy composition with a little hint of cilantro, dedicated to "The Garden of Earthly Delights" painting by Hieronymus Bosch.

It is a calmer, even more classic perfume than Verveine d'Été, and somewhat similar to it.

Its dusty oakmoss is a bit like in Eau d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal, but it's only a distant resemblance.

If Verveine d'Été is the sparkling aroma of the present days, then Eau des Délices for me is the fragrance of beautiful memories of the past,

because of the noble dustiness of oak moss in this perfume.

In general, it is certainly obvious that the emphasis in these fragrances is made on the beautiful features of natural fragrant materials and their pure natural feel,

that is only slightly embellished with synthetics; on simple but beautiful compositions;

on an atmosphere of noble vintage, and this is certainly a new life for these perfumes.

I think these perfumes are very easy to understand, so all perfume lovers, even the newbies, will see and understand this simple pure beauty in these compositions.

In my opinion, now, when there are so many similar fragrances in the perfume market, such unusual scents will be very much in demand among fans of such vintage feel, so now is a very appropriate time for a new life for the brand.

My favorite of these is definitely the Verveine d'Été, also Cuir de Russie, Tubéreuse Trianon and Rose Trocadéro.

And, of course, if you like the perfect simplicity and fragrant feel in the spirit of the middle of the twentieth century, or you're a vintage collector, I think these fragrances are just right for you,

and don't miss a chance to get your free samples of these amazing perfumes, I will leave the link under the video for you!

I hope you've enjoyed this video, if you did, please give it a thumbs up, comment below if you have any thoughts about this brand and subscribe to my channel!

Thank you so much for watching, and see you next time! xx Anisia

An Earth-Sized Telescope Just Snapped Two Pictures - Duration: 4:45.

The problem with trying to observe black holes is they're really dark.

They don't release the light from anything they swallow, and anything coming from their

surfaces is way too dim to see.

Also, black holes are so relatively tiny that it would take a telescope as wide as Earth

to even resolve the difference between the edge of the biggest black hole in our galaxy

and the swirling gas around it.

So we've only detected black holes indirectly, based on their gravity.

But soon we might have the first ever direct image of one, thanks to some astronomers with

an Earth-sized telescope.

It's a project called the Event Horizon Telescope, or the EHT.

But it's not like there's a huge, mechanical second Earth floating around in space somewhere.

Instead, it's a network of radio telescopes around the world that act like one virtual telescope.

Eight of these telescopes have spent a little over a week working simultaneously to collect

huge amounts of data.

They looked at the supermassive black hole in the center of our galaxy and the one in

the center of the galaxy M87.

A lot of a telescope's strength comes from its width, so looking at something with telescopes

on opposite ends of the Earth is a lot like looking with a single telescope as wide as

the whole planet.

Except it's a lot easier to build.

The Event Horizon team wants to use these telescopes to see the event horizons of black

holes – the points-of-no-return for anything falling in.

Supermassive black holes are usually surrounded by rapidly orbiting clouds of gas and dust

called accretion disks.

And light from quickly moving objects gets concentrated in the direction they're moving,

so accretion disks are sort of like lighthouses.

They look really bright where gas and dust particles are moving toward us, and dimmer

where they're not.

Researchers also expect to see light from the parts of accretion disks behind black

holes, because the light's path will get bent by the extreme gravity.

Images of black holes could help us learn about things like why M87's black hole has

huge jets of particles coming out while our galaxy's doesn't.

And the shape of the dark parts of black holes, called shadows, will also teach us a lot about

how gravity acts in a regime that we've never tested before.

If the shadows aren't nearly a perfect circle, that could mean there's something wrong

with our current theory of gravity.

Now, the EHT has gathered massive amounts of data over the last week, so it's going

to take a while to analyze it all and hopefully produce an image.

But we could have the first-ever sharp picture of a black hole by sometime in 2018.

This other news is another first that you probably saw some headlines about.

Maybe even some misleading headlines.

A European team of astronomers announced the first detection of an atmosphere on an exoplanet

that's about the same size as Earth in The Astronomical Journal.

Which is exciting!

But detecting an atmosphere doesn't necessarily mean there's life.

Exoplanets are planets orbiting stars other than the Sun, and their atmospheres are incredibly

hard to detect.

One way to do it is looking at how a host star's light passes through the atmosphere

at the very the edge of an exoplanet.

Scientists have been detecting atmospheres around giant, gassy exoplanets for about a

decade, but it took until last year for them to find an atmosphere around what's called

a super-Earth.

Super-Earths are exoplanets more massive than Earth and less massive than a planet like

Uranus or Neptune.

And the first one where we found an atmosphere is called 55 Cancri e.

But even though it's a super-Earth, 55 Cancri e isn't very Earth-like.

It's 8 times more massive, with 18-hour years and surface temperatures of around 2,000

degrees Celsius.

So astronomers have been looking for atmospheres around planets that might be more like Earth.

And this team got a step closer.

GJ 1132 b is about 39 light years away.

It's a super-Earth, but it's only about 40% bigger and 60% more massive than Earth,

so it's closer to Earth's size than Mars is.

According to the team's measurements, it's probably made of similar rocks as Earth, too.

And the researchers think there's a good chance that its atmosphere has lots of water vapor.

But they'll have to collect more data to be sure, since water vapor and methane can

look really similar in these kinds of studies.

Now, even if there is a lot of water vapor in the atmosphere, there aren't any warm

little ponds for life to swim around in.

Because GJ 1132 b is a toasty 320 degrees Celsius.

That doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't have life, but there probably isn't any like here

on Earth.

At the very least, GJ 1132 b is proof that Earth and Venus aren't the only small, rocky

worlds with thick atmospheres out there.

And, who knows, it's probably only a matter of time until we find a long-lost twin.
