Get your whisk ready, we're baking lavender cookies!

The cookies taste light, buttery and a have subtle lavender aroma.

We rolled the cookies in coloured sugar for a pretty and simple finish.

These cookies also make a wonderful gift and we craft a lovely sleeve box to package them.

You can download the printable box at our blog, the link is in the description.

You can prepare this recipe with fresh or dried lavender, just make sure it's culinary

lavender intended for consumption.

Crush the dried lavender in a mortar into smaller bits.

If using fresh lavender, carefully wash the florets and chop them on a cutting board.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the powdered sugar and butter until pale and fluffy, for

about two minutes.

Sift the flour and salt into the bowl.

Add the lavender and whisk until crumbly.

Add two tablespoons of ice-cold water and knead until just combined.

The dough should be soft but not sticky.

Roll the dough into a log, wrap in cling film and put it into the freezer for an hour.

While the cookie dough is freezing, fill 1 cup caster sugar into a ziplock bag and add

a little violet gel paste food colouring.

Shake the bag until the sugar is evenly tinted and no lumps of food colouring are showing.

Line two baking trays with baking paper and preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius, which

is 325 degrees Fahrenheit or gas mark 3.

Sprinkle the coloured sugar over the log and roll until the dough is completely coated.

Using a sharp knife, slice thin rounds of the log and place them on the baking tray,

spacing the cookies 5 centimeres apart – that's 2 inches.

Bake for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, the cookies might still seem soft but will set after cooling for a

little while.

The cookies stay fresh for a week in an airtight container.

The Truth About Prepositions and the End of Sentences

A great man once said, "This is the sort of English up with which I will not put."

Eloquently highlighting the ridiculousness of strictly adhering to the rule against ending

a sentence with a preposition, Winston Churchill may not have realized that his defiance is

supported by history.

As it turns out, there was never any such generally recognized rule.

So where did the idea that you shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition start?

Many writers in Restoration Era England (1660-1689), and in particular "Glorious John" Dryden

(one of the greatest poets, dramatists and literary critics of the 17th century), believed

they had vastly improved the quality of English literature over their "Tudor and Elizabethan

ancestors:"

The language, wit, and conversation of our age, are improved and refined above the last

. . . these absurdities, which those poets [e.g. Shakespeare] committed [were due to]

the want of education and learning.

The additional education and learning that Dryden claimed included a mastery of Latin,

a language he revered.

And, since in Latin one cannot end a sentence with a preposition, Dryden contended that

it shouldn't be allowed in English either.

(This is the exact same reasoning behind why, for a very brief time, it was considered incorrect

in some circles to split an infinitive.)

Influential, many listened to him including Bishop Robert Lowth, a fellow of the Royal

Society of London and author of A Short Introduction to English Grammar (1762).

An extremely popular textbook on the subject, the Short Introduction included what came

to be known as "Dryden's rule," although even Lowth acknowledged that ending a sentence

with a preposition was not only dominant "in common conversation [but also that it] suits

very well with the familiar style in writing."

Nonetheless, since Lowth, like Dryden, felt that "placing the preposition before the

relative is more graceful," and since those two literary giants were in favor of it, many

adopted the style.

By the dawn of the 20th century, it had taken on the characteristics of a rule – particularly

among grammar school teachers.

However, literary scholars knew better (but no one was listening to them).

As late as 1926, when Henry Fowler published a Dictionary of Modern English Usage, he described

the "rule" as a "cherished superstition."

As for today, according to the Oxford Dictionaries, there are four primary types of sentences

where it sounds more natural to end a sentence with a preposition:

Infinitive: Joe had no one to go with.

Who, what, where type questions: What song were you listening to?

Passive: The cat was let in.

Relative clauses: That's the man she lived with.

The Oxford Dictionaries website also recommend a joke to really drive the point home:

A snobbish English teacher was sitting in an Atlanta airport coffee shop waiting for

her flight back to Connecticut when a friendly Southern Belle sat down next to her.

"Where y'all goin' to?" asked the Southern Belle.

Turning her nose in the air, the snob replied, "I don't answer people who end their sentences

with prepositions."

The Southern Belle thought a moment, and tried again.

"Where y'all going' to, BITCH?"

The Number One Enemy of Success | How to End Distraction - Duration: 4:15.

Hey guys, Abbi Jay here and I am so excited to talk about. Oh, I say that every time.

Okay.

[Intro]

Hey guys, Abbi Jay here and today's video

is on the number one enemy to your success.

Now I talk about success all day long, it's what my channel is all devoted to because

I'm a success coach and I want you to be successful in whatever that means to you.

In whatever endeavor you want to undertake.

These videos are to help you do that, and so as I've, you know, been on my own journey

and helped other people on their journey I've realized that there is one critical, critical

thing...I don't know a better word for it, that's out there that we need to be aware

of as a huge enemy and deterrent to our success.

And it's distraction.

Now I bet you thought I was going to say self-doubt because that is a huge, huge obstacle to your

success.

But I would say it is number two, but distraction takes the cake because we live in a society

where we've been told our whole lives, you know, "Dream big!"

"Go for it!" "Shoot for the stars!"

"You can do anything you set your mind to."

All of us have the belief that, "Yes, we can do it."

And we all know that we will doubt ourselves but that we can overcome that.

But distraction hits us upside the head and will steal our success if we let it.

So I've got two tips for you today to stop this from happening and how to refocus your

life and to make sure that you're success is going to happen for you.

That we rid distraction out of your life so let's get going.

Step number one is to get focused.

When I was doing this YouTube video, preparing for it, and thinking of what I wanted to say,

my phone kept buzzing, and beeping, and ringing, and dinging and it was all these emails.

Guess what, most of them were from advertisers, and while I just checked my phone real quick

and swiped up to see what was going on.

That pulled my focus and it took me some conscious effort and a moment to get back into YouTube

mode.

And to get back into what I was thinking about.

That happens to us all day long.

We have this wonderful technology and social media all around us but it will pull our attention

when sometimes we really need to focus.

So that's my number one advice for you is to make sure that there is a time and a place

for everything in you life and that when you are working on something critical to your

success, or really important to you, or that you want to see real results in, stay focused.

Put the phone away, put your computer on silent, just make sure that you're focused and that

you're driven and that nothing is going to take away from your energy because it is,

it's a lot of subconscious and conscious energy that we spend to pull our attention away and

then bring it back.

So get focused and stay focused.

Tip number two is to commit to yourself.

What do I mean by this?

I mean that it's time for you to decide that you are important enough and that your goals

are meaningful enough that you need to devote your time and attention and energy to them.

It's hard sometimes to say, "you know what, what I'm working on is more important

than the buzzing on my phone."

It's improtant to say, "I value myself.

I value my success.

And I know I can do this if I stay focused."

So there you have it.

Those are my two top tips for staying focused.

because alot of the times we say that we believe in ourselves but how do we convert that into

actual action and a true belief.

It was exactly 30 days ago that I launched a marketing experiment to capitalize on a

nation wide consumer trend.

Despite all this this is actually a really unproductive day because I keep wanting to

stare at real time analytics and just watch people go through the check out.

Ugh that's so nerdy.

Total sales since I launched everything is $2,688.02 and it hasn't even been 48 hours

yet.

This is so cool right now you can see someone's on the cart page someones at the check out

page everyone else viewing product there is 15 people on the site it's been like this

all day What!?

No way!

What's up it's day 4 and I didn't record at all yesterday just in the morning and I said

this so it's Wednesday day 3 I've only had one sale today so the trend maybe over.

I really thought the trend was over I only had one sale $9.99 and then all of a sudden

5pm-10pm BOOM $700 in sales.

This is all happening from 1 ad on Google and 1 ad on Facebook.

Something really interesting is the Ad I had on Google which was slowly increasing the

cost per click all of a sudden dropped to $0.07 a click it used to be at $0.35 and rising

so this really really good news.

Yesterday when I sold $700 I only spent like $5 bucks So today is Thursday its' 9:21 am

and $185.88 in sales man I think this thing still has legs.

Unbelievable.

Holy Moly!

It's 10:02pm which is my bed time I was literally in bed my phone was going off like crazy I

broke $1,000 today and there is 27 people shopping in the process right now.

I was literally in bed about to fall asleep yes don't judge I go to bed before 10pm every

day.

Dude look at all these page views there coming in like crazy.

What's up it's day 5 Friday and I just passed $6,000 gross sales and I'm hanging out with

Will today who is going to making some awesome designs for the second phase of this whole

experiment which is going to be getting into some really cool tshirt designs let's see

how it does.

My apologies because these last couple days I haven't had a chance to vlog some of the

steps that I'm doing but it's because I've been spending all my time fulfilling these

orders it's absolutely crazy.

Yesterday was really interesting almost a $2,000 day and when you take a look at the

ads look who I'm competing against here Amazon Etsy Target despite that I have been able

to maintain an average position of 1.3 over them and impression share of 25% so despite

competing against some pretty hefty competitors my site Kick Push Skate is still kicking butt

so that's awesome.

Yesterday total spend was $152.75 and what's crazy about these ads is as they continue

to progress the conversion rates are pretty high for each keyword it's definitely over

5% some in 9% even 10% for particular keywords.

I'm super pumped because I've been working on the last 2 days with other designers to

come up with all this different types of products to upsell we're talking about shirts coffee

mugs hand bags even canvas art so today or maybe tonight I'm going to launch everything

we're going to go big on Facebook cross your fingers let's see how it does.

Something interesting is I've had 2 offers for investors to be part of this now it's

a trend and it could die any moment so giving away equity is just almost too early because

you don't know what the end value is it's just a huge variable it's interesting to consider

and I don't know what I'm going to do yet as of this moment but we shall see.
