My Love for Home & What Homes Means to Me - Duration: 7:00.
Hi! How are you? Give me a hug. Oh, come on in, I'm so excited to see you!
Can I get you anything to drink? Do you want any coffee, water, tea, wine... seltzer?
Yea, seltzer? Okay, I love a good bubble, too. I'll get you some seltzer. Oh, do you
just mind taking your shoes off? I'm so sorry... It's a shoes off house.
I know... but, yeah... thank you. Really appreciate it. Okay, so I'll let you get
settled here... and I'm gonna head into the kitchen grab us some drinks and I'll
meet you in the living room so we can sit down and have a little chitty-chat.
Okay, I'll see you in a minute.
Thank you again so much for coming today.
I'm so happy that we get to have this little chat and get to tell you a
little bit more about why I have such a love for home and really what home means
to me. I'm often asked where this career started for me and I seem to always
start to tell the story after college when I was asking myself what I was
really most passionate about and what was really going to bring me the
fulfillment I was looking for in a career. However... haha... like I'm sure many of you
I decided to ask myself that question after college... and not before college... haha, but
I guess to be fair a lot of stuff changes between the beginning of college
and after college and what we know about ourselves. So, you know give myself a
little leeway on that... haha.. but, um, truly when I look back now on my life I can see
that this all began decades earlier for me. I mean, since I was a child I have had
a passion for all of the domestic elements that go into making a home. So
much so that there was a point in my life where I actually told my friends I
just wanted to be a stay-at-home dad... haha... and not because I wanted to stay home, but
because I loved creating and caring for a home and the people within it. And, it
was really the best way I could put my finger on exactly what made me happy.
When I think about the organizing, and the decorating, and the cooking, and the
cleaning, and the entertaining, and the habits, and the routines, and all that
stuff that goes into making a warm and welcoming environment of a home
that was until this day still is something I get truly excited about and
just have this innate passion for. I mean, I've always loved learning all of those
things and trying to figure out ways to really make them better in my life, as
well as other people's lives. And I just think from the people within it to the
physical environment itself a home is an incredibly special place.
I actually really like to look at our homes as a big blank canvas that becomes
an expression of our lives. When we think about all the things that we bring into
a home... the furniture, the art, the plants, the lighting, the heirlooms, the memories,
all of that stuff... all the way down to the dishes and the utensils... it all
becomes an expression of ourselves. It tells the story of who we are, where
we've been, where our families have been, and I think even ultimately who we
want to be and where we want to go. And then we all, you know, we all take those
items that we've brought in and we curate them very differently in our homes...
on our canvases... to really be that expression of ourselves. To be the home
that we want. The home to keep us warm, keep us safe, and inspire us for tomorrow.
And, we also get to choose who we want to share that expression with and how we
want to share with people. It's an incredibly intimate and special
thing. It's something I've always been fascinated by and really happy that I've
been able to help other people with. When I think about what home means to me...
it really has always been my sanctuary, as I'm sure it has been for many of you,
too. It's been that rock and that stability that, that place that
foundation, of the place that I can retreat to at the end of the day to
restore myself, to rest, so that I can go back out and continue to march on. That's
something that I've been very grateful for and lucky to have had... and, um...
something that I've really cherished throughout my life. It's also something
that I've been very happy to bring to other people's lives as well. Gosh, it's
been almost 10 years now that I've been bringing my passion to life through my
organization and design business. Helping my clients to really create more of a
complete home. I've helped them to move, declutter, organize, decorate, design custom,
closets, plan parties, and really just find simple solutions that make everyday
life better and make their homes work better for them. It's really been a dream
come true to bring my skills and this passion to life in this way to help
people. I've even been so blessed to have been able to touch millions of other
people's lives through the work that I've done on TV, in newspapers, magazines,
and online... through working with people like Dr. Oz, Good Morning America,
being a regular guest on Katie Couric's talk-show, O Magazine, Real Simple
Refinery29, Brit + Co... all the way to my column in Good Housekeeping magazine...
it's truly been an honor to be a part of all of that and to touch so many people.
You know for some time now I wanted to share more of the tips and ideas and all
of this fun stuff that I love on a regular basis... which is why we're here
today... to begin the journey of sharing all of that. Starting from the ground up
by telling you more about me, as well as my love for home. I'm really looking
forward to sharing how my ideas come together and how they work in our lives
as well as our homes... whether it be my own home or someone else's... because for me
this work has never been about just organization and design... it's always been
about a lifestyle. Now, before you go today, I'd love to hear what home means
to you, too! Please, let me know in the comments section below so we can continue
this discussion about what home means to each of us. And, two final things... one
don't forget to hit that subscribe button so you don't miss an invitation
to come over in the future! I don't ever want you to feel left out. Plus, next
week I'm going to be sharing a little bit more and giving you a home tour.. and,
finally don't forget to give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed this video and you're
looking forward to more videos coming your way soon. Thanks again so much for
stopping by. It was so good to see you and have this little chat. I'll see you soon.

This Pair Of Peugeot 205 GTIs Has Been Decades In The Making - Duration: 5:45.
It was an exceptional car back then,
the era of GTI models-- the '80s.
My name is Jean-François.
I drive a Peugeot 205 GTI, 1.9 L 130 HP 1991.
My passion started in 1978 when my dad took me to car shows.
I used to collect 1/43 miniature models.
Like Obélix, I fell into it at a young age,
electric tracks to scale 1 in our garage.
I took up photography, covering car races
where the 205 GTI would compete in '84-'85.
My dad worked for Peugeot, and he took me to an exhibit in 1984.
It was the bomb back in the '80s.
Getting my license in 1985 was like a dream come true.
But the car was expensive; so was insurance.
Twenty-five years later at a store, I looked at a magazine--
the 205 GTI was celebrating its 25th anniversary.
I flipped the pages, gazing at the car.
I fell in love again and needed one fast.
Three months later, I found her--
205 GTI 1.6 L, 115 HP, 110 K on the engine.
Fifteen days later, I took the train with my daughter Sara to make the deal.
All the way up to Strasbourg.
Then I wanted a second one.
I found a 1.9 L, 130 HP, Miami blue.
However, it was almost a wreck.
That car drove me crazy.
Its Miami blue carcass, all beat up...
Would it ever run again?
The rear suspension weighed a ton.
Ouch!
However, two years later, it was in perfect running order.
After a long hiatus, how delightful it was to sit down, start the engine and give 'er.
Blasting the cassette player, riding hard,
full '80s style.

Spending Wisely: Is What You Buy Worth Your Time? - Duration: 6:07.
How's
it going everyone I'm dono and this is how to happy.
In this video we're going to be talking about is what you spend your money on worth your
time.
So you may have a problem that a lot of people have where you're looking through your expenses
at the end of the month and you feel like the money just disappears a lot quicker than
you thought it did so maybe you're trying to figure out how to keep your budget a little
bit tighter how to spend your money a little more wisely.
So what I want to talk about in this video is the strategy that I use to kind of help
me keep a lot of my spending in check.
So what I do is when I go out to buy something you know that kind of expensive or frivolous
or you know just something that don't necessarily need but I want to some degree I ask myself
is what I'm buying worth the amount of time that it took me to earn that money.
So for a lot of us we're working in positions where we get paid by the hour.
So if for example you're making $10 an hour and you want to buy something worth $100 is
what you're buying worth 10 hours of work.
That's the question to ask yourself and a lot of times when you ask yourself this question
it's going to help reframe the value of what it is that you're buying.
Now I know that I simplified it to make the math a little bit easy but a lot of times
yeah if you think about it in terms of would I spend 10 hours of work in order to get this
thing.
A lot of times some of the smaller things that we dont care about as much kind of fall
off of the radar.
Often when we think about it in that way that when we ask ourselves am I going to get ten
hours worth of enjoyment out of this object a lot of time it'll slow us down at least
from purchasing things that we don't really need because you know we're spending too much
time working for how much enjoyment we're getting out of what we're buying.
As you make more money the guidelines loosen up and change a little bit right so if have
you ask yourself is going out to dinner today worth 10 minutes of work - you know for most
people it probably is but for others it may not be.
So it's really about just spending time reflecting on what's actually valuable to you and what
money means in terms of how difficult it is for you to actually earn it compared to what
you're spending it on.
This idea is the reason that a lot of people say time is money.
When you spend money you're spending your time really because it took you time to earn
that money.
Now going along with this framework everyone is at a different place and on top of that
don't feel bad if you spend you know money on something that you actually enjoy.
If you think about it and you go ok I had to work 5 hours to do this activity I think
it's worth it then don't worry about how much work it took just feel good and focus on knowing
you're spending your money in a way that resonates with you.
What im trying to get to the root of is spending your money in a way that you feel like you're
not getting as much benefit out of it as you put in work.
This idea is not about limiting yourself and cutting a bunch of things out it's about spending
money on the things that you truly care about.
Whenever we spend money on something that we don't really care about that money is gone
and spent but we could have used it toward things that brought us more happiness or that
were more useful.
So the reason that it's important to pay attention to these things is the opportunity cost.
You don't want to spend money on things that are too expensive for how much value they're
giving you when you could be spending you know that money on something that really does
bring you value.
Another way that you can do this to kind of feel more of the impact is to tally up how
much you spend on certain things in the course of a month.
So for example if you buy a cup of coffee every morning when you add all that time together
is it really worth a days worth of work or whatever it happens to be.
that's something to ask yourself and sometimes these aggregates can give you a little bit
better idea but on the flip side sometimes it's a little bit too much data to process
and feel real.
So that's just another tool that you can try if you think it's something that would help
you out.
If not I just recommend making the purchases as you go and thinking about them as you make
the purchase and comparing it to your time to see if your'e spending your money in a
way that you feel really resonates with you.
So again I'm not saying don't every buy anything or anything like that, it's just an exercise
that you can try to see if what you're buying is what you want to be buying.
Now if you try this exercise and you find it to be more stressful than it is helpful
then I wouldn't recommend using it anymore right.
The whole point is so that you're spending more of your money on things that make you
happy but if you're freaking out the whole time over every single thing that you buy
that's going to cause just as much stress as probably spending your money in more frivolous
ways.
So as with a lot of the things that we talk about here it's just an exercise that you
can try to see if it works for you.
With that being said lets move on to the exercise section.
1.
Think of the last 3 things you bought.
How long did you have to work to get them?
2.
Evaluate each object.
Was it worth it?
3.
Are you buying anything regularly which is money better spent elsewhere?
That's all I've got for this video hopefully that gives you an idea that you can use to
spend your money a little bit more wisely that'll lead you to some more happiness.
