Hey guys, welcome back to my channel so today I'm going to do a full TBR for you,
which is all the books that I have personally on my shelf that I want to
read this year, and then I also want to talk a little bit about my 2018 goals
and kind of look back a little bit on my 2017 reading goals. So let's get started.
So I have a couple of books on my 2018 TBR, these are all personal books from my
shelf that I own that I would like to read over the next few months, that way I
can just check out books from the library and then maybe purchase more
books that I would like. You guys have probably seen my 2017 TBR, some of these
are from that some of them are brand new, if you guys watched my recent reads and
my Christmas haul video. The first book we're gonna start off with is This Side
of Paradise by F scott Fitzgerald. I'm actually almost done with this. I have
read all the short stories within this collection right now, I'm just reading
the side of paradise and then the beautiful and the damned and after that
I will be completely done with this book. It will probably go to the library, even
though it's gorgeous. I have been reading this collection on my iPad because it is
easier, the text was a little bit bigger and I can get through it a little bit
faster. So far I have loved all the stories that I have read from this
collection, it's gonna be nice to have been able to say I read something
other than the Great Gatsby. His writing is absolutely gorgeous as everyone knows it
to be. His short stories are really intriguing and beautiful and I'm
interested to see how his short stories, regarding, at least, the shorter, you know
200 page novels in this, than the small small stories end up being as well. This
book is also one from my original TBR from last year and I am slowly almost
finished with the whole thing. I believe this is the only classic left for my
original TBR. I do have one more classic right now that I picked up recently that I'm
going to read but this is the last Barnes & Noble Edition classic that I
have to read which is so exciting and I have loved almost all of them. The other
classic which I was just talking about that is on my TBR for this year is
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I do not know anything about this book, I picked it up
for $1 at our local library and I knew I wanted to read a lot of classics this
year so I decided to pick up this one. The text is a little bit small,
I'm not sure if I'm gonna end up actually downloading this on my iPad to
read or read the physical copy, maybe a little bit of both, we'll see. But
I'm really excited to get to this one. The next book is Magnus Chase and the
Gods of Asgard. Which if you guys watched my last video, the following books are from
that book haul. This one is by Rick Riordan. I read Percy Jackson a couple of
years ago, I've heard this is pretty good so I will get around to this...this
probably is my lowest one on my TBR that I own at the moment just because I'm the
least interested in it, but I still want to read it.
Ant-man: Second Chance Man. This would be a reread as I said before I have
actually read this one a couple of years ago. I thought it was hilarious, I'll
probably read it this week, it's gonna take me 30 minutes. I absolutely love it.
Another big and new one for this year is the Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
Again I am 50 pages into this, I'm liking it, but it is high fantasy ,it's gonna
take me a little bit, I'm not sure if I'm going to love it,, that's not usually a
genre I seek out but I'm very excited to get to this to see what the TV show is
like. I'll probably to get to the rest of the series and find out what all of this
hype is about. And that is actually my entire TBR. Those are the only books that
I have left on my personal shelf that I purchased or I've gotten as a gift that
I haven't yet read which is super exciting. Like looking back at those
videos when I had so many left to read, especially classics is absolutely
insane. I do have a couple of books here from the library that I picked out
recently that I do want to get to as soon as possible, probably within the
next couple of weeks, so we will include these into my TBR at the moment. So
You've Been Publicly shamed by Jon Ronson. I actually started this today at
work and it's super intriguing and very very good. I will probably finish by...
finish it this week. It's basically just a nonfiction book about people who were
publicly shamed on social media for mistakes that they made, tweets that they
sent out, plagiarism, all that kind of stuff. I haven't made it very far or
enough to really see every situation that is included in this novel but so
far it is very interesting. I love a good nonfiction so. Gemina by Amie
Kaufman and jay kristoff. I read Illuminae and I really enjoyed it, however this
book does take place after that first one and is set about different
characters and it's not the same characters from the original. I have
started this, I'm not sure if I'm actually going to continue on with it or
not. It is one of those books that it is multiple different designs, so it's kind
of like a lost and found, found journal, whatever that is called. So it has very
different like... captain's logs and things like that which is easy to read, not
necessarily my kind of style depending on the situation. Celine actually tried
to read Iluminae, didn't enjoy it so much. I enjoyed it but I not sure how I feel about
this yet. And finally I have Renegades by Marissa Meyer.
I love Cinder, the entire trilogy... series how many was there? I don't know I
can't remember but I haven't tried another Marissa Meyer except for the
Cinder series so I'm really interested in this, my friend told me
that it was kind of like Marvel mixed with something else... I don't remember
what she told me but she said if I liked Marvel and superheroes then I
would enjoy this. So interesting to me and it's a YA, it won't take very long.
So I plan to get to this pretty soon. So this was a very short video but I did
want to talk about my 2018 reading goals. So in 2017 I set my goal to 50 books for
the year, I ended up reading a hundred and twenty-five books. I really did not
expect to read that much, considering I had a full-time job and just multitudes
of things...I had a lot of things to do... places to be so I did not expect to read
as much as I did. For 2018 I have set my goal to a hundred
books because I feel like I will read even more this year especially since
I've kind of set up this habit of reading about 50 pages... 25 to 50 pages
every day when I wake up in the morning so I think that's definitely going to
help with my motivation and all the books I want to get to read. So I'm
gonna do 100. In regards to...kind of, I guess there's been a discussion about
you know being pressured to read or feeling guilty about reading or bad that
you're not reading certain books. I don't necessarily have that problem. I've never
really seen reading as something...as a pressure. Like obviously I want to finish
my TBR and so usually I'll set the library books down and I'll start on my TBR, but
I don't feel bad about doing that. I feel more excited to, you know, finish my TBR
and then go back and now I can order all the books that I would like from the
library knowing that I read these books that I really enjoyed and I get to read
more books that I enjoy. The only other 2018 goals that I really have is
obviously to read more diversely which it's pretty much everyone's goal
every year, because I feel like I stick to the same thing a lot of the time. I've
been reading a lot more nonfiction and a lot more adult novels
recently which is really nice. I would like to read more classics this year and
that's both in film and in book form. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of things,
obviously since I just read all those classics for my last TBR which I've
really enjoyed, almost all of them, I just want to make sure that I am consuming
these classics that everyone says are so good because there's probably a reason.
And I love classics myself so I just want to be able to say that I read them,
to understand when people make references to that kind of thing, and
then obviously I love movies so I watch the movie version as well. So you guys
can check out my Goodreads, I will link that down below so you guys can check
out my to be read on there as well and maybe you'll get some ideas and I will
continue to add to them that way when I finished with the books that I have now
I can go to the library and order more. So I hope you guys enjoyed this
video, thanks so much for watching. I will see you in the next one! Bye!
