and it has its own charm because of its age.

It is a ship that was built for coastal research.

So you are very flexible,

you can reach costal areas easily,

you can go on dives, you can do research,

because there are appropriate laboratories on board.

The crew is very helpful.

There is always good food.

Overall it is a kind of feel-good-ship.

I am particularly pleased by the small size of the ship

so that you come into direkt contact with the scientists.

And also the size of the crew is very manageable.

Because of that you grow together more closely

than on a larger ship

where you would meet just once a day at mealtime.

Especially in the Kiel Fjord, in the Balic Sea,

you need a small, agile and well usable ship,

It is also very reliable.

Actually this ship is essential for the coastal research

that we carry out here at GEOMAR.

I wish LITTORINA

many more nice years

but we also have to consider

that it is a 42 years old ship.

That means that it enters its advancing years

and we have to think in the next 5, 6, 7 years,

as much as I am sorry to say that, about replacing the ship

with another adequate ship

or maybe even with a new construction.
