The Duchess was here to experience a little bit of Dubbo girl power and she fitted right in
All over New South Wales young women are turning out to meet the Duchess of Sussex, and today, here in the rural city of Dubbo, the newly minted-royal was winning more young hearts and minds at the Dubbo Senior Campus Girls Academy
With her background in social activism and women's empowerment, programs like the Girls Academy are of special interest to Meghan, whose royal remit as a Commonwealth Youth Ambassador is just starting to unfold
The Girls Academy is a powerful in-school mentoring program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls, delivered at 42 schools guiding more than 2,500 students
Each school has a Girls Academy room which is permanently resourced; a place to hang out, chat, seek support and really get involved
The Academy's key objectives are to increase school attendance, advance academic and personal achievement, improve year 12 graduation rates and facilitate post-school education and employment opportunities
"Eighty per cent of the Girls Academy staff are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, and they are full-time mentors at the school - devoted to showing the girls there are many options open to them, and to helping them fulfil their potential," explained Aussie Olympian and NBL basketball player Ricky Grace who founded the Academy, the flagship of his 2004 Role Models and Leaders Australia organisation
Ricky felt that while there was help for boys, girls especially were slipping through the net
"I understand the importance of mentoring. I grew up in a rough neighbourhood in Dallas, and there was a time in my life where I could have gone either way, but I had a mentor who helped me realise my potential," said Ricky
"Our program is making a big difference in the lives of these girls and their communities
A survey of our Year 12 graduates from last year found that 84% of them are now at university of TAFE, or have jobs
""We are delighted that the Duke and Duchess have chosen to visit our Academy and acknowledge the amazing achievements of these students, " added Ricky
For the Academy girls here today, the chance to meet Meghan was incredibly exciting
Year 12 student Tiarnie McBride, 17, kicked off proceedings with John Hill, 18, greeting the couple with a traditional Acknowledgement of Country
"I feel very grateful and honoured to be given the opportunity to do the Acknowledgement of Country," she said

I'm Elisabeth Masanet, I'm from France and I've been living in Cape Town now for ten years,
and I'm the founder of La marelle.
La marelle is an accessories brand locally made and the characteristic of our brand is we give all our proceeds
to a charity called Syliva's House.
So when I arrived in Cape Town I found a beautiful country, of course
we have to adapt at the beginning with the security issues,
and not necessarily at ease, and I didn't know how to drive on the left side and all this kind of discovery for me.
We enrolled our kids in a school I started meeting parents and I met two other Mom's at the French school
we became friends, and we
decided to launch a business because we wanted to do something here in South Africa.
As we discovered that we couldn't find anything suitable for kids
in terms of clothing and we had French taste, we decided just to launch a new range of the children clothing.
So after three years of selling clothing, we just realized that it was not profitable
really and that at the end of the year after all this work the proceeds were
really little, we decided then to re-organise our business and try
rather the accessories business and we started 'Jewellery Kiddie's Range'
which went very well from the start and then we extended our range to jewellery for women and then to bags and scarves and
all kinds of accessories.
So how does La marelle work? So every year
we launch new products with the team that may change year after year because of course as Expatriates
we are aimed to move but once the team is set we design new
bags and new jewellery and we have a seamstress working for us full time.
We then ask her to produce a certain amount of products and together
we organise sales and we communicate through Facebook and Instagram
We organise what we call 'Pop-Up Sale' in private homes
and we invite all our customers to come and then they buy. After the end of the year we just
calculate all our proceeds and we give everything to the charity. And our volunteers - one will be more in the
communication marketing side and the other one will help me for example with the production and
another one will be more in the jewellery making and we all have our different skills and use them of course for making this
adventure a successful business.
From the beginning (we had) the idea of giving back so we wanted to create this business but
also to give back all the proceeds to a charity that we would find, and we found Sylvia
thanks to another charity called
'Santa Shoebox'. The founder of the charity thought of Silvia's as a good orphanage for us to help, we wanted a very small
structure to have really an impact on them with the little charity we were so it was really the idea
of knowing all the kids we were helping and really when we met Silvia we just fell in love with her because she's such
an inspirational woman. We really felt that we could trust her from the first meeting that what she was doing was really right,
she was really money-wise
and trying to save as much as she could and do what she can with
the little she had, and when we met her she already had eight kids in her foster care,
and she's now taking care of eleven kids on her own
which is really amazing.
The main goal of La marelle is to finance the orphanage and to help those kids to really grow in a safe
financial environment that tomorrow there will be helped financially that they will be able to go to to school
and to have food on the table.

Hi there, I'm Sylvia Frank, I'm from Cape Town South Africa and I am the founder of Sylvia's house
which is a foster care home here in Gordon's Bay, which is a little beach village in Cape Town.
I founded Sylvia's House 20 years ago
and started as a Safe House at first just to look after children
temporarily until they have had all their health checks, and then they could be adopted out
but that's not necessarily what always happens. Sometimes the children that came and stayed with me
we've had more than 80 children staying here. Some of them their families got rehabilitated and they went back home
some of them couldn't go back home ever because the situation never improved and then when you came to the point of
they should leave me and go into mass institutions, I said NO. And so
our family grew and we now have Sylvia's House and the ten children who are here are all permanent, and I have raised them,
and they're wonderful!
So my experience of being a foster parent has been a very positive experience
There are a few challenges that any foster parent faces, especially if you're a single foster parent, I'm a single mom
so financially it's been a bit of a struggle, but there is always a way
where there is a will. I had a lot of hard times before I met Elisabeth from La marelle.
We were in a bit of a state and I was in a state and a bit overwhelmed trying to cope alone and it's
organisations like La marelle. Elisabeth came and
she's our, our guardian angel I'm convinced, and she knows all the children very well and she knows the rough times and the good times
and she knows the struggles as a parent because I talk to her about everything, and she knows
the achievements, and those achievements have been
because of la marelle. The children have all been given a very good education
and the children who have learning issues are able to have help with their learning issues because of Elisabeth, and I know
how hard Elisabeth works
to give them all the opportunities, so,
both of us together, we have raised the children
It's been like a long, a long road, but a very productive road.
But fortunately, God sent me my angel.
