Hi everyone welcome back to Show Me How to Win. We're visiting Taipei, Taiwan
and we're checking out Small Islands
Taiwan is one of the small islands so that
makes it really fitting all right next to me is Allen
Allen is the president of BGN Board Game Nation and
Small Islands is the first game that you're gonna bring to Essen
so this is a big one for them and it looks really well produced it's gonna be
a good one I'm looking really looking forward to this one all right so Allen
what are we doing with Small islands
What's the background behind Small Islands?
(Translated) In this game, we are all adventurers sent out by our tribal leaders.
We are trying to find small islands in the vast ocean and attempt to get victory points, and become the winner of the game.
OK, so we are explorers trying to explore the islands and build homes on them
basically get the most prestige
In this game on the player's turn players would take a tile and place a tile
the goal is to make sure that some of the islands match their secret objective cards
if those objectives are met they will get the reward
so every player gets one ship tile
when someone plays the ship tiles then the round will end and the everyone
would score they will reveal their objective cards and see if the missions are met
If they are they get to place a house on one of the islands where the
objectives are met if not they will not get to score that
island all right so I heard that no matter how many players everybody will
play four rounds so if there are only three players or two players we only get
two or three ships how does it work?
(Translated)Assuming this is a 3 player game. We will flip this extra ship tile to the back side, which shows a black ship
all the players may use this black ship, this is a public tile. First come first serve.
what about there's two players do we each get one of the we get two ships?

Secondly, pay attention to how to tiles are laid out, because players may only build one house per island.

If I can connect these two islands using this tile, then I can make the two islands into a big island.
Only I get to score this newly formed larger island because I have yet to build a house on it.
The last tips is to make sure you choose the right time to sail, and where to place your ship tile when you sail.
When someone sails, everyone scores. If you do so at the right time, you can score more than your opponents.
Also, at the end of the game, everyone scores based on where they place their ships
so a good location can give you even more bonus points.
Okay so to summarize number one make sure you know when to use your resource bonus token
everyone gets four of these
you can use these to modify the condition of
the island so that better met your objective cars but you can also use it
to mess other players up because once somebody place something down you can
actually go back and cover it up and mess with them
that so that's number one
number two because every player only gets to build one house on each Island
so sometimes there might be an island on the corner that
seems to be unconnected to other islands but if you have a chance to connect it
to make it so that only you can build on this new larger Island because
you connect two different islands that someone already placed a house on the
other islands that way they won't get to score the new island anymore
so that is another way to mess with your opponents
Last but not least try to make sure that you sail your ship at the right time and also the
right location because you not only score when you place your ship you also
at the end of the game get to score eight tiles around it the more anchors
you have around your ship tile the more points you get but you can also
mess with other opponents to make sure that they don't get those anchors by
placing particular tiles around someone else's ship so that they don't actually
get to score what they want it to be
all right so now one more question
what if someone holds onto their ship because they don't want somebody else to score more than them
How does the game end then?
(Translated) if someone insist on not placing their ship tile to sail, the game will end when all the landscape tiles are placed.
At that time, there will be a final scoring around. The game ends after that.
