CHIEF WASN'T ALLOWED TO BE AT

BRIGETTE NAMATA IS LOOKING AHEAD

HOWARD AND MARISA-- I SPOKE WITH

WEDNESDAY'S MEETING, WHERE

COMMISSIONERS DISCUSSED WHETHER

THEY WOULD FIRE OR KEEP HIM AS

HEAD OF

THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. BUT HE

TELLS ME THE POLICE COMMISSION

REACHED OUT LATE YESTERDAY

AFTERNOON AND ASKED KEALOHA TO

"Brigette: Was Chief Kealoha

allowed to be in

the meeting with the police

commission?

Myles: No, he was not. Much to

our surprise. We

believe in transparency. The

chief should have

had the opportunity to address

the board."

But that's changed - Kealoha

will get a chance

to say what he wants to the

commission.

"Myles: He's going to have an

opportunity to

hear what the board says. What

comes out of that?

It's anyone's guess."

"I'm happy at least they decided

to allow the chief

to be present, so that at least

he can address

some of the questions they

have."

In December, the police chief

placed himself on

restricted duty after learning

he was a target in

corruption at HPD over an

alleged mailbox theft

involving the chief's wife, city

deputy prosecutor

"Katherine Kealoha."

The 7 Commissioners agreed to

place the chief

"Does the police commission want

the

chief to resign? Myles: I can't

answer that

question. I know obviously...

they've

placed him on restricted duty.

They've indicated to

indefinitely removed from his

position. He lives and

breathes law enforcement.

Certainly

this is not a pleasant

experience for him. He

feels he is being unfairly

targeted. Hopefully the

board has a chance to explore

all of this in
