L'gosseux d'bois Ep 127 - Comment je fais mes queues d'aronde à la main - Duration: 8:06.
Hi, on The Woodpecker today, I'm showing how I made my hand cut dovetails,
on my new tool rack.
When I built my new hand tools rack, I made all the frame with hand cut dovetails.
I also did all the drawers the same way.
So now I'm going to show you how I made them. I will begin with the frame standard dovetails.
like the ones I did on the frame.
Making dovetails is much simpler; if I start with a nice straight ninety degrees cut.
Then I can set my marking gauge at the thickness of my wood and mark the end of the board that will receive my dovetails.
Then with a dovetail saddle square and a half inch setup bloc, I trace the first two extremity lines.
Next, with a compass adjusted to the width of the dovetails I want, I make a small mark at each end of the dovetails.
I start with my first lines and work my way to the other side.
When I have all my marks, I trace the rest of the dovetails with the same saddle square.
When I'm done, I don't forget to mark what I need to remove.
Then I can cut on the lines.
Then I can, if it's not already done, mark the edge grain.
Next I enlarge the mark, just before cutting both ends half dovetail.
Now I can cut between the dovetails.
To do so, I let my chisel drop into the marking gauge scratch, and I widen it.
You can see that I use a square block of wood to help me cut straight.
Then, I can remove even more wood so I'll have more space to cut deeper with the chisel.
I do that approximatively three times on each side
and eventually the piece detach itself from the board.
I just need to remove it.
Sometime using only my fingers is not enough.
Next I can clean the sockets.
Now I can start to work on the pins.
I begin by tracing another marking gauge line, to the same thickness as the one before.
Then I place what I've just cut over the plank
and trace the shape of my dovetails.
Then with same saddle square, I trace vertical lines on the ends of my mark, so I have a visual reference of what to cut.
You can also clearly see that I've marked the waste part of the pins; it's a bad time to goof up.
I try to leave the pencil mark, because if I cut it my joints will be a little bit slack.
The rest is fairly similar as for the dovetails; I need to remove unwanted wood.
The only difference is that I use two different size chisels;
depending on the side I cut.
When the sockets are removed, just like last time, I clean everything.
Now I just need to check my work.
Here it is; one corner done.
I still need to make three more for the whole frame.
But I also made drawers with half blind dovetails.
Just as for the frame, I begin with nice straight cuts.
After adjusting the marking gauge, one rod to the thickness of the sides and the other to the height of my dovetails,
I can mark the back and the side of the drawer front.
Then I can trace both extremities dovetail's lines.
When I make half blind dovetails,
unlike normal dovetails, I always begin by cutting the pins.
But I need, just like last time, to mark the space in between the pins.
Then I can trace their form.
Next I cut at an angle on the line; taking care not to cut pass the marking gauge lines.
Now I can remove the unwanted wood.
This is mostly the same job as I did for the other pins.
I could also have used a small scrapper like this one to cut the rest of the wood the saw couldn't cut.
But I didn't do it this time.
I just removed some wood, little by little, up until it got to the marking gauge line.
At the end, I just need to make sure it's straight and clean.
Then I can take the side and mark the height of its dovetails.
It's the same adjustment as before.
Now I can place the piece I've just worked on directly on the marking gauge line and, with a super sharp pencil, trace the shape of the dovetails.
Then I just need to cut just beside the lines.
I always cut all the lines with the same angle before switching angle;
I find it easier that way.
Then I need to remove the waste wood.
But oak is much harder than mahogany,
so instead of chopping it, I cut the sockets with the scroll saw.
Now the only thing I need to do is to clean the sockets.
Job well done.
I need to make the other sides now.
The back of the drawers are done the exact same way I did the frame of the rack, except I cut the sockets with the scroll saw.
This was how I made all the dovetails for my new tools rack.
I hope you loved it enough so you'll come back for the next episode of The Woodpecker.

Reporting : S.E.S. (ENG SUB) [K-pop Zum In], 에스이에스 - Duration: 5:57.
In today's K-Pop Zum In, we'll introduce you the "legendary girl group," <S.E.S.>.
President Lee Soo-man is the head of the "SM Entertainment," who pioneered the Korean-style idol market.
In 1996, President Lee Soo-man successfully launched H.O.T.
Following their debut, Lee plans a female dance group that has it all - the looks, vocal skills, dancing skills, and foreign language ability.
After auditioning some 10,000 people, the final members came down to "Bada (Sea), "Eugene" and "Shoo."
Using the first letters of their names as the group name, S.E.S. made their debut on Nov., 28th, 1997.
The title/debut song of their 1st album <S.E.S.> was <I'm Your Girl>.
It was "New Jill(Jack) Swing" genre, a high quality song with trendy melodies.
Also, the members' good singing skills, powerful dance moves and the concept of being a "girl friend" were added,
and it blew up to the point that it even coined a new term, "Nuna Budae," meaning groups of young boys followed the older members.
Later, their song <Oh My Love> also made another great hit,
which made S.E.S. have a launching ceremony of "Chingu (Friend)," the first-ever official fan club for a girl group back in Feb, of 1998.
In November of the same year, their 2nd album <S.E.S. 2> had the song <Dreams Come True>, an Euro-dance pop that had dreamy and mysterious mood.
Another song <I Love You> spearheaded the popularity of school-look costumes.
With these two songs, the album was praised for being the "first-ever idol group's album that was given attention by the critics."
Also, along with albums by Seo Taiji & Boys, BoA, and BIGBANG, it was included in the "10 Best Idol Albums of All Time."
From then on, S.E.S. set the rule that "girl groups = fairies" and opened up the age of K-Pop as they made inroads into Japan and Taiwan.
In 1999, their 3rd album <Love> had the message of the members' maturing into women from girls.
With a total sale of 760,000 albums, it became No.2 in terms of female singers' album sales, following Lee So-ra, in all of K-pop history.
It still maintains its record, having the highest number of album sales in the history of girl groups.
For their first solo concert held in 2000, the tickets were all sold out in just 2 days.
Their song <Show Me Your Love> included in the 4th album released in 2001 recorded No.1 in 8 music programs in just a week.
The song also left a huge footprint, ranking No.1 for 3 consecutive weeks in 7 music programs.
In 2002, S.E.S. wrapped up their career with the song <Just A Feeling> included in the 5th album.
In just 6 years after debut, the group officially disbanded on Dec. 19th, leaving the record of "the biggest album sales made by a single girl group in Korea," with 3.5 million albums in total.
However, in 2016, members of S.E.S. had a secret meeting with President Lee Soo-man to find ways to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut.
Finally, they confirmed their comeback, with the powerful support from the SM Entertainment.
Now, let's take a closer look at each member of <S.E.S.>, who are like the archetype of all girl groups existing in Korea.
First, the team leader and lead vocalist Bada was born in 1980. Her real name is Choi Seong-hui, who is from Wando-gun of Jeollanam-do Province.
"Charismatic Diva" Bada is called the "Céline Dion of Korea," with her surprising range and crystal-clear voice.
She is the archetype of all main vocalists in girl groups now.
As a child, she dreamed of being a musical actress, and attended Anyang Arts High School.
During the school's festival, she was cast by President Lee Soo-man, and became the first member of S.E.S.
After the disbandment of S.E.S., she pursued her solo album, moving on to become a musical actress later on.
At the Korea Musical Awards in 2008, she received the Rookie Award, and received the Best Actress Award a year later in 2009.
Since then, she has been showing off her unchanging singing skills and "talent," and is enjoying the second round of her glory days.
Next, Eugene is the sub-vocalist and the center of looks. Her full name is Kim Yoo-jin, born in 1981 in Nowon-gu of Seoul.
"The Goddess of Beauty" Eugene is the original "visual shock" and the "Olivia Hussey of Korea,"
and she is the great mother of the so-called all "visual centers"' in every girl group.
Eugene immigrated to Guam when she was in fifth grade,
and was cast by President Lee Soo-man by chance when he went to Guam, as H.O.T was there for a photo shoot. That's how she became the second member of S.E.S.
After the disbandment of the team, she moved on to work as an MC and an actress,
and was awarded for her acting skills with her roles in the drama <Bread, Love and Dreams> and <All About My Mom>.
In 2011, she got married with actor Ki Tae-young and has a daughter, but still boasts her legendary looks.
Lastly, sub-vocalist Shoo is from Yokohama in Japan. She is Yoo Soo-young, born in 1981.
She is in charge of "loveliness" in the team, and captures her fans with her four-dimensional charms.
Before her debut, she was preparing to become a part of a mixed group in another agency, but was "street cast" at the Lotte World, becoming the last member of S.E.S.
In 2001, she was praised for her star role in the famous Japanese musical <Two Souls>,
and from that experience, she released a project single with a popular Japanese group "V6."
After S.E.S. members went their separate ways, Shoo married basketball player Im Hyo-sung in 2010, and became a mother of three.
Later, all the baby items she had shown on TV all sold out,
"Midas Touch in the world of baby products." Now she is working as a CF model for various baby products.
Back in the days of their debut, the K-pop world was male-centered.
However, S.E.S. opened "the era of girl groups" by revolutionizing the music industry.
By satisfying both the popularity and musicality at the same time,
the group never let go of their top spot, and was the first idol group to be praised as being a musician.
Finally, that very S.E.S. came back through their concert celebrating their 20th anniversary of debut, which was held for 2 days since Dec. 30th, 2016.
Their album <Remember> was released in Jan. of 2017 to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
With their double title songs, <Paradise>, New Jill(Jack Swing) genre they're good at,
and <Remember>, a medium-tempo pop-ballad song to which the members wrote the lyrics,
S.E.S. once again showed that they are "the best girl group in Korea."
By coming back from "the dreamy days," to show their love to the fans by coming together with their fans' "everlasting love,"
we ask S.E.S. to "never to forget the promise you made" that you'll never leave us!
Our next week's K-Pop Zum In features <EXO>. Please look forward to our next episode!
To the fans of K-Pop from overseas, please put a caption in your language to this clip so that much more people can get to know your favorite K-Pop artists.
